Really cute place with outdoor seating, small parking lot, and on street parking. Definitely should have a reservation, which we did, but there were empty tables all around us, even though we were told they were booked solid when we tried to change the reservation time. Service was great. Our server was really attentive, with 4 - 5 tables pretty much seated within minutes of of us getting seated. I tried a Longo Cosmo. Not really my thing, but it was good. The espresso martini was better! We had drinks, an app, dinner and dessert! Rolling out of there is an understatement! And it was all super delicious. I had chicken francais, aone friend had the carbonara and the other had chicken caprese. We did start with calamari , which were delicious, super light and crunchy. Another night and another great dinner at Longo's in the toney hamlet of Westerly. Even on a stormy night, with a Nor'Easter barreling thru shoreline, Jerry had a packed house right at 5p. Service is alway la with a smile, and not over the top. We, of course, had the Meatballs...which are the best ever, as an app. Utter perfection. Lanie had the Chicken Piccata, which melted in your mouth. I chose a a special, homemade cheese ravioli and meatball...yes!! More meatballs. All worthy. I'd give this a 5 star review except for the fact that the bartender, while clearly working hard, literally threw my martini at me spilling some of it and he didn't bother to wipe it up. My companion and I ordered takeaway pizza tonight. What a disaster! The order was placed by phone minutes after the 5:00pm opening time. I was told 20 minutes. I arrived approximately 20 minutes later and was told just a few minutes more. I proceeded to pay the bill and waited. 15 minutes later the boxes finally arrived accompanied by a demurred "sorry about the wait". Clearly our order was misplaced and the staff went into panic mode. Arriving home and hungry we dove in. My companion ordered the South Philly. It was hard to cut and reported as underdone and chewy. 3 pieces of 8 were consumed. The balance TBD. I ordered the self titled "Longo". Also underdone and chewy (remember the panic mode). Additionally there is far to much cheese on this pizza. 4 pieces of 8 were consumed. The garbage disposal consumed the balance. I can't think about coming back. The truffle fries appetizer was the hit of the night! There were four of us and we tried both local beers and their cocktails. The cocktails were a bit sweet for my liking. Our group had mixed reviews about the food (see below). Two ordered entrees and two ordered pizza. I didn't love that two of our group were given their entrees while the pizza was still cooking. It was about 10 minutes before the remaining two of us were served, so that was a bit awkward. We would give it another try, and stick with the menu items from the appetizer and entree sections. I returned here a few weeks ago with the same friend. So that tells you something right away. We started with wine for me and seltzer for her, followed by Caesar Salad w/anchovies for me and Longo Salad for her, both fresh and delicious. For the main course we both got the Mezzi Rigatoni Bolognese which was served so hot the steam was rising off it for a good ten minutes! It was delicious, and a generous enough serving that we brought home leftovers (which were just as good the next two days!) The server offered grated cheese which I expected him to hand-grate so was surprised and a little disappointed to have him return with grated Parmesan cheese in your standard shaker. We were too full to indulge in the Italian Donuts that so impressed us the last time we were there, but someday. The only negative was that we were placed next to a group of 10 ladies who were clearly having a good time and it made it a little hard to hear. I should really do a better job of scoping that out before I'm seated, it can't hurt to ask for a change of table and most places will happily do it if there are other seats available. I stumbled upon Longo last night in Rhode Island and I'm forever changed. Let's get to it! The food: *Longo's meat balls may be one of the best, if not the best, meatballs I've ever had (I hope my mom doesn't see this post). Can meatballs melt in your mouth?! These did! And the ricotta paired with the meatballs were perfect, as the ricotta was whipped. *Their carbonara was perfect. The pancetta added a nice salty flavor to the dish. The carbonara was the perfect balance between, a touch of cheese and creamy texture without a sauce being present. How do they do it?! Longo reminded me how subtleties can be pivotal within a dish (I'm here for the fresh ground black pepper). *The Italian donuts-this was almost as if you took cannoli filling, placing it inside a donut and outside-sprinkled with caramel-powdered sugar-and love. To add, the previously mentioned donut was served harm. Have you ever been hugged in your mouth?! Parking- I visited Longo during prime dinner time. There is street parking available but it can be difficult to find if it's prime dinner time. There's also parking lot next to the restaurant as well. The parking lot offers parking for Longo, neighboring residents and restaurants. Last but not least, I love a personable owner. The owner of Longo is so friendly, funny, fun, and kind! Excellent downtown atmosphere reminded me of the North End in Boston, with similarly excellent Italian cuisine. We shared the special appetizer, 3 meatball sliders. Each slider was a large meatball stuffed with cheese and parsley on what seemed like a pretzel roll. DELICIOUS! We very seriously considered just getting a few plates of those sliders and calling it a day, but the entree offerings had already caught our attention: My wife got the Gnocchi Sorrentina which was filling, flavorful and unique (for her) as she'd never had gnocchi before. In a day that started in the teens and ended around freezing it was a perfect dish for a cold day. I got a classic spaghetti and meatballs dish. Apparently I'm in good company because the actor Richard Jenkins (the dad from "Step-brothers") who's apparently a regular, and I both list this as a favorite. The sauce was hearty and thick, the noodles cooked to perfection, and the gigantic meatballs were moist and just like the slider appetizer, filled with delicious cheese and parsley. Yeah, kinda pedestrian but you can't beat a well made spaghetti and meatball dish when you're HONGRY (with an "O") and cold. I came all the way to Westerly to have a pizza called "New Haven" and it was worth it! What a great place! It's a smaller place and can get rather busy so we made reservations. I love that you can see into the kitchen area and watch the food being made. Everything was so fresh and for as busy as it was our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive. We had a lot of questions and she answered them all! Haha. The parking can be tricky when it's busy downtown so allow yourself a little time for that. We came to this restaurant during our visit to RI and on a recommendation by a known Sopranos actor. Totally enjoyed a different type of Rice Ball. By that I mean not what my husband eats in Brooklyn. It was delicious, crisp and cheese mixed in. Thank goodness no peas. Reading the menu of pizzas I was surprised to see a bit of a Philly connection. Not until Later did I find out that the owner was from S Philly. Would have had a lot to talk about. Anyway, we had the Potato and Rosemary Pizza. The crust was very much like what we eat in New Haven. Nothing like it around NY or Philly. Also ordered Chicken dish that did not have enough of a lemon taste for me but the Risotto was delicious. Dessert, yes we had to try the fried Donuts with Cannoli Cream. Yummy. We ate at the bar. The bartender was rude and did not engage with us at all. Said "I can hear you" while he was washing glasses and supposedly taking our drink order. He took my friend's order and then went and did something else and I had to wait for him to come back to take my order. Very unprofessional. Went there last night for my birthday dinner after setting up a reservation about a week ago. We waited 2 hours for our food which was ridiculous and there was no accountability for the wait from either the manager or waiter. The food was not even worth the wait, which is why I'm writing this review. I ordered the chicken Parmesan, the chicken was lukewarm and completely soggy, like it had to been sitting out for a long time...so if that's the case why did it take 2 hours to get to our table? After being seated there was a quite a wait to be acknowledged or receive service. Meals came out VERY slowly - almost 40min. The chicken caprese was very good but chicken was way too thin. Had asked to substitute penne w/ vodka sauce for the risotto. Was charged $2 for penne & $2 for sauce. A little ridiculous to be nickeled & dimed when meal was $27. Water glasses on table were the size of shot glasses. Thankfully waiter brought over a bottle of water for us to keep filling the mini water glasses. Tiramisu was fair. Came in a glass. However, the bread they served as a starter was horrendous. Tasted like stale walmart brand bread. Seriously bad. The biggest offender though was the tiramisu. Absolutely the worst we'd ever tasted. Served in a jar--the first red flag. Obviously cheaply done and improperly made despite being $12. Absolutely no coffee flavor whatsoever. They even topped it with whipped cream and hersheys syrup... We have been going to Jerry Longo's since he was on Federal Hill in Providence. We followed him to Westerly and we will follow him anywhere! Saturday night we made reservations for a party of 13 for our daughter's nursing degree graduation. Jerry set us up with a great meal! We had everything from his amazing veal dishes to chicken parm to shrimp scampi. We had a Longo salad and a Cesare salad and 4 of his signature pizzas for the table to share! Everyone raved about every course. Our waitress, Carley was exceptional! She was right on the ball and kept asking if everyone needed anything all night! When it was time for the cake that we brought, Carley came carrying it out and put a sparkler silver torch on the cake! It was spectacular to see.
