This place is adorable! We went for lunch during our stay in Willits at an RV spot and when looking for a place with vegetarian options, can across the reviews for their extreme veggie. So glad we went, the sandwiches were delicious! Highly recommend.

There seems to be an abundance of independent eating establishments in the small pass-through town of Willets so the reviews were helpful. Else, we wouldn't have known about this little place on a side street. The restaurant is as cozy as a bistro with a nice, covered seating area in addition to the small dining room. The menu is impressive and primarily sandwiches and salads. (No French fries.) The Santa Fe Chicken sandwich was very good. The chicken Caesar Salad was fresh but I would have liked a little more chicken. Our server was very friendly and efficient. Note that they only accept cash or check and have an ATM. Very casual with styrofoam cups and paper plates.

Cash only. The sandwiches are very unique and fresh. They don't serve French fries with the sandwiches but do serve chips, salad and soups a la carte. The service was great. The ambiance is cute. I'd recommend Loose Caboose Cafe to others.

Hometown favorite always have to visit when i return. The menu has always been a classic nothing has changed and the food is still tasting outta this world. No matter what the day or the weather this spot always hits. Best sandwiches in the town my favorite being the chicken pesto. Staff is always so friendly and the dinning room and patio are very comfortable with plenty of seating. Make sure to check this spot out.

Had a friend rave about this place while we were in town so I had to check it out. Snuggled dreamily on a one way street it evoked charm from the exterior as you can see. It is blessed by amazing flora and fauna that graces the outdoor patio section, which is peaceful and makes you feel like you are in another world. The staff is helpful, attentive, knowledgeable and amazing. The food choices were tremendous. My friend had the Cordon Bleu, which he is still talking about and my WigWag pastrami was it's equal. Definitely a must to frequent in Willits.

Great lunch spot! Everything is homemade down to the salad dressings! the sandwiches are all delicious & the soups are amazing! They have milkshakes,malts or a variety of beers. The staff are all nice, friendly & helpful. The daily specials are always great to,I almost always end up getting the special. This is one of the best places in Willits for lunch for sure! read more

It's one of the better options to eat out in Willits. I ordered the chicken pesto sandwich. I'll rate my food & experience here 3.5 Stars. It was better than average (4 stars)but I deducted 0.5 stars because the food portion was small, pricey, cash only payment option, and we were seated (center of the dining room) too close to the next table. read more

Great sandwhich soup and salad place. Especially when u need that midday cocktail with ur lunch. Kid friendly soups are awesome and their basil vingarette to die for! Seating fills up pretty fast at peak lunchtime. Again another willits restaurant that's hours are not enough but again worth getting there when they are open! read more

Fresh and homemade! Great soups! Love that you can get pretty much any sandwich as a half. Only downside... VERY SLOW. If you've got an hour at 2pm on a Tuesday to kill on their patio waiting for a cup of soup and a half sammy this is your spot. It's delicious when it arrives tho! read more

Honestly, I haven't been to the Loose Caboose Cafe yet, but my wife knows good food and a good restaurant when she experiences it, and from what she's told me, I cannot wait. She said that at first it looked kind of small, but when you go inside, it's really a good sized space. She told me that they had catered to the place where she works, and the food was so good, she had to try out the restaurant. She said that it was ever bit as good as what she had at her work place. I cannot wait to try it out for myself. If it's anything like what my wife says, and I'm sure it is, I have a treat waiting for me when I get to Willits. read more

One of the best sandwich shops I've ever eaten at in my life. There isn't a bad sandwich on the extensive menu, but the Santa Fe Chicken is a standout for me. All sandwiches are served ala carte, but don't miss the soups which are always excellent. And if you feel like a splurge, run, do not walk to get one of their milkshakes. Awesome. But effective, attentive, exuberant service is the big show here. Repeat customers are treated like royalty to the degree that an analogy to the television show "Cheers," where everybody knows your name, cannot be overstated. Service and retail businesses almost everywhere could take lessons from the Management at the Loose Caboose on how to earn and retain customers. read more

Not sure where these ratings are coming from, but we had the world's worst sandwiches here! No flavor to anything- chicken, tomato, tuna all tastes the same...in dry, cardboardy bread. Would obviously never go back or recommend. read more

Wow! Based on so many positive reviews, I was eager to take my granddaughter there for lunch on a road trip. We were very disappointed in the service and the food. My daughters sandwich had a strange taste and I asked not to put spicy dressing on my salad, but they did anyway. We watched 3 tables get served when we arrived ahead of them. Used to love this place. It has gone waaayyy downhill. I got 3 santa fe's to go, brought them home and my 5 year old took a bite, chicken was RAW!! All 3 sandwhiches were NOT cooked all the way through. Staff roles their eyes at customers and talk about local people out loud. Wont eat there anymore, and with those attitudes I bet they read these and dont even care. read more

Went here due to the yelp reviews. Quite disappointed. The food tasted good but meat on all of our sandwhiches was very sparse. Server forgot the avocado on one sandwhich and rarely came back to fill our glasses. Also the tables were very close together and everyone kept banging into one another. Not sure I would go there again.... read more

By far my favorite place in Willits for lunch! The Chicken Pesto Sandwich is my absolute favorite sandwich ever. Get that with bacon, avocado, and spicy ranch and you will never want to order a different sandwich! The staff here is awesome and very sweet/ accommodating. Love, love, love! read more

We've lived here for 26 years and have made Loose Caboose a frequent stop for lunch. I can assure you all the high marks are well-deserved. I think the folks who had a bad experience here probably just hit the place on a bad day or were perhaps themselves having a bad day. Yes, if you go here enough times you might hit them at an off time, but by and large...and I mean almost every single time we've been there...it's been perfect. If you go during harvest season, there will be a lot of take-out orders being served (must feed the trimmers, right?) so that might have a small impact on your wait time - though it didn't for ours, last time we were there during harvest. Bottom line: great place. read more

We opened our doors in 1988, in the "caboose" of the old Country Mall, with just a few sandwiches and salads on our menu. Since then we have relocated, expanding both our establishment and our menu. We have become famous for having the best sandwiches in the area. Jill Persico, along with our amazing Loose Caboose staff, pride themselves on always serving quality food, having excellent customer service and making sure your dining experience is memorable. We offer incredible hot sandwiches, homemade soups, creative salads and specials that change daily. We serve a large array of drinks including both beer and wine. That's my experience of Northspur. I've never stopped here with friends, but I've thought of my friends while I've visited. As in, this is a place my friends would really like. They could be faking but I don't think they are. I-5 is for whisking. 101 is for a different kind of trip. Not only that, the bypass also then has folks that don't know what's in Willits pass right on by. Their loss, though also a stake in the heart of the vitality of local business. Thanks, legislature, Caltrans and people that make money building things we don't need. This then for the people that would otherwise whisk by without stopping and are maybe hungry and turn to Yelp as the leave Ukiah to see what's ahead. Northspur is ahead, my friends. And if it's late in the day, get a room in town so you can sample every drop Northspur has to offer. The vittles aren't complicated, the menu isn't exhausting - but everything on it is good. The brewed offerings are delicious. Staff is straight out of Lake Woebegone (all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average). Friends with friends are having a rollicking good time and the vibe vibes with this happiness. I will stop every time. Try it once and I guarantee you will as well.

After giving the menu a look through I opted for a standard I go for when I see it, the Chili Relleno The plate a Chili Relleno plus a barbacoa taco rice and beans, with a real mexican bottle Sprite. Very basic bit also very good. The rice and beans very basic and a little bland, needed salt and pepper. The Pablano chili stuffed with cheese was very good and a nice flavorful stuffing with a nice breading exterior and sour cream on top. The Barbacoa taco was a good crispy taco, basic but good, very traditional street taco style. The chips and salsa housemade, with a decent lunch and a real cane sugar Sprite. It served its purpose and met my needs for the day. 3 Stars - better than some not as good as other, an average taco joint with good basic food that served its purpose the day of my visit 00960

That's my experience of Northspur. I've never stopped here with friends, but I've thought of my friends while I've visited. As in, this is a place my friends would really like. And, this: it feels like folks from around these parts that have friends come here with friends, and while they're here from all appearances they have a really good time. They could be faking but I don't think they are. The Willits bypass as observed by others and maybe other places by me was an unnecessary boondoggle that not only separated normal CA taxpayers from their money so as to avoid maybe five minutes extra travel time as they whisked north to ... to where would anyone need to be whisked in the north. I-5 is for whisking. 101 is for a different kind of trip. Not only that, the bypass also then has folks that don't know what's in Willits pass right on by. Their loss, though also a stake in the heart of the vitality of local business. Thanks, legislature, Caltrans and people that make money building things we don't need. This then for the people that would otherwise whisk by without stopping and are maybe hungry and turn to Yelp as the leave Ukiah to see what's ahead. Northspur is ahead, my friends. And if it's late in the day, get a room in town so you can sample every drop Northspur has to offer. The vittles aren't complicated, the menu isn't exhausting - but everything on it is good. The brewed offerings are delicious. Staff is straight out of Lake Woebegone (all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average). Friends with friends are having a rollicking good time and the vibe vibes with this happiness. I will stop every time. Try it once and I guarantee you will as well.

Fantastic Experience at Loose Caboose Restaurant! My family and I yesterday visited the Loose Caboose Restaurant, and we had an absolutely delightful experience! We ordered two sandwiches , cheesecake blueberry and a hot dog, and each bite was bursting with flavor. The ambiance of the restaurant was charming, especially for my son who adores trains. The walls adorned with vibrant train paintings and photos of trains everywhere made the atmosphere truly special. It felt like dining in a cozy train-themed paradise! The food exceeded our expectations, and the service was exceptional. The staff was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall wonderful experience. Loose Caboose Restaurant is definitely the best place to eat, especially for families with kids who love trains. We can't wait to visit again soon! Highly recommended. read more

The food was amazing. The staff very nice. Had the Pesto Chicken Sandwich. BUT... Why cash or check only? Not a good thing to find out when you don't carry cash and are traveling. Conveniently they had a ATM Machine at the counter for you. The $2.95 fee to get your cash was unexpected. There's this thing called Square that might help this place take cards. Weird to see any business for cash only. And only 3 parking spots!! read more

My husband filled up on crackers from the table when we first got there so i felt bad about him not being very hungry by the time the food came. My turkey sandwich was good. I have to admit the plate seemed a little sparse but was still delicious. read more
