If you are used to taquerias or a mexican restaurant this is not the place for you. Reminds me of Tex Mex food seen in a movie from the 80's, just a bunch of melted cheese on everything. We won't be back. Service was a little weak. The server was also the cashier who handled the money at the cash register and they grabs the top of my cup for refill for tea. The place looks to be renovated, but definitely staff needs someo training and an updated menu. read more

I just came back to Los Amigos after they finished their renovations. Sadly, the only positive change about this place is the décor and interior design, NOT the food or service. The prices are still decent and they have a nicer bathroom. Let's be real here, though. Most of the menu items don't a have description. For example, how am I supposed to know what's on their 'fiesta' dish, if I have to ask every single time!?! When I was dining there, I noticed that there were only one or two people working there, literally. Service was slow, and our food took almost an hour to arrive. Los Amigos' salsa is spicy, but watery. Their queso is oily and tastes like canned soup. YUCK! The taco al carbon was a joke. It consisted of uneven cuts of steak, I didn't get to pick which meat I wanted in mine, in one flimsy tortilla. Dry and bland. I'm not coming back to Los Amigos anytime soon. read more

Ate lunch on 1-12 25. Noticed they have replaced wait staff with buttons on the table to ring for service. 3 buttons of which one was cancel. To get a refill on drink a button has to be pushed. Not a fan of this. Keep in mind the waiter was very friendly. I ordered Coke and my friend ordered tea Over $3 Coke but free refills. The tea is around a $1 maybe 90 cents and no free refills. What is bad is this is not made in store. It is canned tea. Don't want that. They don't tell you this and what tea it is. A lot canned teas have filler and unwanted ingredients. Just want plain tea. The cheese was ordered a la cart. A very small bowl, tiny and was $7. Outrageous. They should tell the customer this before ordering if prices have gone this high. Also, the salsa they bring for the chips seems to have changed as both sauces tasted terrible. And the waiter apparently can't count money. Gave me back more than I should have received. Tried to correct it but it eventually came out of his tip. A little confusing. As 99% of the time I get tea when eating out I can say I nor my friend will be going back read more

New owners... the previous owners (Robert and family) upon sale apparently desired continued employment for their crew. Pepe (cook), great call! Waiter John-- abysmal FAIL!! The food was slow to arrive, but tasty, the one forkful that I tasted upon being served (35+ minutes after ordering-- we were the ONLY patrons, initially). Lunch specials, nothing crazy... I went for a second bite (was famished!) and saw a long, thick, black hair entwined within the beans and the rice. Gross!! I immediately called the waiter, John, to rectify. He assured me that the cook is bald and could not have been the source, and strongly implied by words, stance and facial expression that I was the cause. NOT OK-- my hair is thin and dark, but not black and not long. My companions were blond and/or with brown/gray hair in a ponytail. He offered to replace that plate-- NO!!-- A) no time, and B) we all wonder what happens to "retakes". Well, he again denied any kitchen concerns. My companions and I shared the remaining (tasty) food. As we were eating, we observed more than four entries into the kitchen/serving area by a young hispanic woman with long, flowing hair, portions in a clip and with some highlights. I mentioned this to John upon paying our check. and he again restated that it could not have been a kitchen issue. I don't know what happened, but I DO KNOW it wasn't due to our table, and that John is an absolute NEGATIVE to Los Amigos' success. We have had a longstanding (think decades!!) history of Los Amigos patronage, and I always leave a 30%-plus tip, bar included, because we really cared about Robert and staff. Los Amigos was a family entertainment tradition (Victor, Carlos at one time, and Pepe). Well, thanks to JOHN, we are done. No more. What an ARSE. Owners, please respond. read more

Guest service is a big part of a restaurant's operation. There is a ton of tex-mex places in the metro area that you can go to. I go here because of the entertainment book that is published every year. Upon finishing my meal I presented my coupon and was told that it wasn't being accepted by the owner. This is pathetic. On top of this I was lied to about a sign at the front door saying this. There was no sign!!! I also witnessed alcohol being served to someone who couldn't provide a valid ID. So you bend the rules and break the law and yet you couldn't afford to discount the $6.89 off of my tab which equated to what my daughter ate. You have just become what some of the other chain Mexican restaurants are OVERPRICED!!! We won't be back! read more

Recently I told you I like being the designated interpreter. Don't make me the designated driver. I tell my friends if you want a cheap date, I am your girl.... I mean cheap as in light weight. (I am exaggerating a bit obviously) I probably shouldn't go into detail on what I do and don't remember, but I've had to ask time and time again where this place is so I could return. Today I brought my non-social media bestie of 30 years. Yes, they do exist. Anyways, she wanted to stay close to home and didn't want to spend much money. I do recall my first time here the tab was cheap. $3.00 house margaritas - you don't need more than 2. We had an appetizer platter with the works, also includes two margaritas. That alone filled us up both. Salsa is spicy enough that I didn't share. I never really share salsa, but I'm not kidding it was really great. Here's the best part I ran into a cute waitress who just happens to be a friend. She'll take good care of you promise, be sure to tip her super. She carded us before we recognized each other. That's just lovely, almost being 40 and all. She also delivered a message from a fellow employee who thought I was hot. Doesn't surprise me, well duh. Of course I am. Dirty dirty dirty. Went here with my in-laws because it's apparently their go-to mexican food place. Soon as we walked in the place just stunk. Just smelled dirty and funky. So we sit down and order drinks because it's their go-to place so I'm gonna give it a go. Well I get a beer and start looking around. Well it looked like they have black mold growing out of the A/C vents on ceiling and the entire place just seemed dirty. I refused to order any food there and we left. If what the customer can see is dirty and there's black mold...what does it look like in the back where the customer can't see? You ever seen the show "Kitchen Nightmares "? Great place for a quick lunch on the go. Based on other Yelpers' recommendations, I ordered the chicken covered in cilantro sauce for $7.50. The rice was a little too crispy for me but the chicken was definitely on point. The cilantro sauce is a tangy flavor that I actually really liked. We wanted to try a new Tex-Mex restaurant in Pasadena. The reviews here on Yelp were pretty good so why not? And I'm glad we did! We were pleasantly surprised! We started off with a small queso. It was good. The texture was creamy and thick. And it was very flavorful. I didn't love the red salsa. It was a little too spicy for me. For our entree, we opted for one of their specials. I think it was called the Chicken Cancun or something like that. We shared it. It was a grilled chicken breast with a creamy cilantro sauce, 2 grilled shrimp, rice and beans. It also came with a House Margarita. All of this was $12.95. Not bad! We also ordered a cheese enchilada a la carte. We loved the chicken with the cilantro sauce! It was delicious! And the shrimp were AMAZING! I wish we had ordered extra. The dinner came with charros beans but we requested refried instead. The beans were seasoned well. Very tasty! I liked the rice but my boyfriend thought it was bland. He's Mexican so he knows his rice. He also wasn't that impressed with the cheese enchilada. I thought it was OK. He said the rita had a kick! I tasted it and it was strong. He got a little buzz from just one. They have Happy Hour from 3-9 which it awesome! Most happy hours end at 6 or 7. For those of us that work across town, it's hard to make it by then. Our server mentioned they have 16 different flavors they can add to the ritas! Wowza!! He was also the manager. His name was Greg. He was super friendly and helpful. For a small queso, an entree, an extra enchilada, a House margarita and soda, it was only $23. Not bad at all! We will definitely be back! read more

Food is reasonable, very fresh tasting, it could use some minor touch ups but the wait staff is great. Great Tex Mex and no need to a high priced chain, we don't drink so I can't give a review on the drinks but overall it was good. Ask for Carlos he is great and prompt waiter. read more

Me and my husband come here almost every week for the margaritas!! Happy hour margaritas are only $3 and there should be a limit of 2 because they are STRONG, yet delicious! Our server is always so attentive and recognized us after the first visit! The queso is THE BEST! It is a hole in the wall, but THE BEST spot in town! Very good food but poor customer service. I did not like the sauce on my enchiladas and they would not take it back and put queso on it. Finally got the assistant manager over and he said they could do it but charge for the queso. Went there with a coupon I get in the mail, buy one get one of equal or lesser value for free. We were told in the beginning "No credit cards because AT&T is down." OK, we have enough cash. Suggested by friends as it was nearby. The place is in an older strip mall. It is poorly lit & was extremely warm. When we asked the waiter about cooling the place down the response was "the owner doesn't allow us to adjust the thermostat" it was sweltering! Bathroom was so hot that there was condensation on the floors from the tiles sweating. The food was not appealing, the waiter repeatedly asked for requests to be repeated. This is a hole in the wall place, a dive, but really pretty good food! The portions are good size, my wife and I usually split a dinner and are both full after eating. Margaritas are awesome, beer is cold, and both are MUCH cheaper than the "chain" Mexican food restaurants. Enchiladas, Fajitas, Nachos, Tacos, never been disappointed with anything that I have ordered there. The only only reason it is not a 5 star is due to the small restroom, only one person at a time, and if you need to go and someone is in there, you have no choice but to wait.
