Avocado taco, gluten free, but icy!
Karen S.

The service and ambiance are always good at Los Chingones. It's fun to stop by for some tasty salsa and warm corn chips. I had the avocado taco, made gluten-free, so it wasn't deep-fried, but unfortunately the avocado was icy. It was also the same price as the meat tacos, which isn't really fair. I see I last reviewed this location two years ago, and here I am again, still asking for more vegan tacos! There are so many possibilities: cauliflower, mushrooms, roasted veggies, beans, quinoa, or walnut taco "meat." I really do hope they add more vegan options to their menu.

Cinco de Mayo

To celebrate my last birthday lunch for this year I chose Los Chingones. They were supposed to be having all kinds of fun stuff for Cinco De Mayo but with all the rain and upcoming snow, that was a bust. Nevertheless the restaurant was absolutely packed. We waited about 10 minutes at the front, debating whether to go somewhere else when the friendly hostess noticed us. She took us to a booth by the kitchen but at least we were next to a wall so the noise was only on one side. We were given a small menu with mostly drink specials for the holiday but there were some tacos. We both opted for regular menu items - I had the chicken enchiladas and my friend had the taco salad. Our server was Jo and she was very distracted. As the restaurant emptied out we thought service would be more attentive but no such luck. She even slammed down a carafe of water on our table as she ran by - not even glancing at us. Luckily we were capable of pouring our own water ;) it took just over a half hour to get our food and by that time we were second guessing our decision not to go somewhere else. When we finally got our food it was good. My adobo chicken enchiladas had a delicious slaw on top and just a hint of spice. The smoky sauce was very good. After another 20 minutes we were able to flag down Jo so I could get a box. Then she dropped off a plate with 2 dark colored balls and told us they were peanut butter mole cookies. The flavor was good but it left my fingers very greasy. Another server brought a plate of churros with chocolate sauce and a candle and wished me a happy birthday. The churros were tasty and filled with a little bit of custard. I have been to Los Chingones before and always had a great experience. I would go back but not on Cinco de Mayo.

Happy Hour

GREAT happy hour! Discounted tacos, chips & dip, + drink specials. It's a kickback vibe with a nice outdoor patio. 10/10 recommend the queso, chicken tacos, & churros. Parking in the DTC can be frustrating but pro hack: the parking garage down the street has 3 hour free parking.

T&T Marg

Updating my review. I've since been to this restaurant twice and each time the food has blown me away. The queso, fish taco, and house marg are going to be my new go-tos. Happy hour deals are incredible and the staff has since been kind and accommodating with helpful menu suggestions. The ambiance is a lively vibe, but still a very loud atmosphere you need to be aware of if you're sensitive to this kind of thing. Not great for a first or second date because it's hard to talk, but perfect for a longtime partner date, friend date, or a happy hour stop before dinner. Patrick the manager was helpful in resolving any issue and I was able to bring a friend to try more new things. Will keep coming back now that I've had these new experiences!

We came for happy hour. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I ordered the skinny marg which was delicious. My friend ordered spicy marg in carafe but it was too sour to our liking. We ordered tacos to share which was delicious. We also had queso, salsa and guacamole. It was great that they also refilled our chips. The music was vibey with great music and I loved that this area has free parking off the first 3 hours in the parking garage.

Idk how this place only has 4 stars. Some of the best tacos we've ever had. This place is . Shrimp tacos were def my favorite!

What the heck has happened to some of the awesome restaurants after covid? Has anyone noticed that they now lack quality and good service? I realize many things have changed after Covid, but too bad this place changed for the worse. The vibe of this place is okay; the music they had the day I went was annoyingly loud. Food is mehhhh. We had chips and salsa; salsa was tasty, but the downside was that they charge for chips and salsa. The tacos were cold and greasy and tasted like leftovers. The 3 pieces of shrimp okay, but the other two were not so good. There was so much grease that the tortilla fell apart; it was hard to eat. After eating here, I got a horrible stomach ache and got sick. Overpriced for what you get, from beer to food. Not even close to authentic Mexican or tex mex. Service was very good, however! We won't be returning, and I don't recommend this place.

Multiple margarita flights and each one was so good!!

My girlfriends and I went o celebrate birthdays in the group and we had the BEST time!! We started with the margarita flights and tried all the salsas they had (HIGHLY RECOOMEND THE ROJO) and got the elotes queso! Then we got taco on tacos on tacos!! The variety was great ALL of the margs were OUTSTANDING! such a cute venue! A little hipsterish, eclectic and fun! I will say the music was loud but so are we so we didn't mind!

I had the Ramen and it was probably the tastiest dish I've tried anywhere in Denver in the last few years! Who knew you could get Mexican Ramen? My dad had the enchiladas and loved them as well. The ambience is light and festive, drinks and entrees very reasonable. We should have ordered churros but were too full. Next time! This is also a family friendly place and the service is excellent.

Happy hour two tacos

Excellent experience while doing a work happy hour on Thursday afternoon! The staff were very accommodating and graciously welcomed a group of twelve of us. Not every establishment in the DTC is as welcoming for happy hour groups or place restrictive conditions on large groups. Very grateful for the hospitality! Great happy hour menu offered with both drinks and snacks, and good value! Personally, I enjoy the cocktail of the day (a cucumber and cilantro margarita), the T and T margarita, chips and guac, and the two tacos off the happy hour menu. I really loved the drinks- T and T was my favorite- a sweet, simple tang flavored margarita. Also very pleased with the guac and chips- perfectly fresh and crispy chips, rich flavored guac with a bit of a spicy kick! Tacos (ordered chicken) were also great! Also- want to mention I have enjoyed the enchiladas entree at other visits to Los Chingones- delicious! Service was on point, friendly, and attentive- kept track of our group's orders for individual payment with no mix ups. The bar high top dining area was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Great spot for a casual yet trendy happy hour or dinner!

Atmosphere was cool but the food was mediocre at best. Bland, little salt would help and no salt on the tables. No domestic beer selection.

I started going when they were still operating out of their food truck, and honestly, watching them grow into a permanent restaurant feels like seeing your favorite underground band finally make it big... except instead of music, they're dropping cheesy taco masterpieces. The queso tacos are absolutely ridiculous in the best possible way: crispy, cheesy, messy, and worth ruining at least one shirt over. And the consome? That stuff could heal emotional damage. It's rich, comforting, and somehow makes you immediately want "just one more taco" even when you're already full. Every time I'm in Denver, this place is mandatory. Not optional. Not "if there's time." Mandatory. My vacation itinerary basically starts with flights and ends with tacos. So happy to see Kike's getting the recognition they deserve. If you haven't been yet, prepare to have your standards permanently ruined for all other tacos.

The horchata, though? Genuinely great. I actually also really liked the elote but my partner didn't. The consomé was fine, nothing memorable. Not a big deal but they put all the tacos in one box and I was able to differentiate which 3 tacos that I ordered. This place is super stingy with salsa. They gave me 2 tiny containers for salsa and then when I asked for a couple more, the lady said she could only give me two more. :( Excited to try the food and started off great with a simple bean, cheese, and rice burrito but outside of that everything else was very meh. Not sure how but all the meats were so dry, I ordered braised/slow cooked meats (barbacoa and carnitas). Asada and pastor were okay as well. Everything lacked seasoning and the salsa didn't add much to the tacos either. Birria tacos were also dry and consommé needed salt to be added. Value was not bad at $37.64. This long skinny establishment - not necessarily super spacious - can offer you a decent food that you can count on. You don't need anybody to go with - you can be a solo diner because this place is not intimidating in any way. It's that casual. I think this establishment was born in the old Stoney's Cantina space. Whether the place was huge enough to create two businesses (and thus La Loteria occupied half of it), I sort of saw some "remnant" of Stoney's was the impression that I got. Whatever I am correct on this or not, this casual Mex place is all about vivid pastel colored interior where red is mostly dominant. Intriguing murals on walls 360 degrees are quite impressive. Once you are inside, a huge arrow to direct the people to order to their left at the ordering counter. That ordering counter extends all the way where you'll see some bar seatings. The right side of it mostly has tables for small to large groups of people. Like I said, this place is not huge but at the same time, people don't stay long to dine; the turnover is quite quick in a way. The restaurant also gets many walk-in to-go order placers as well. I got me the Aztec Bowl for to-go. This dish is only $11 (as of early May of 2025) and is a vegetarian item. I consume a lot of vegetarian diet and yet my instinct loudly spoke to me to add some protein to it. Whether or not you can keep it non-meat to stay in the vegetarian zone, adding some protein to this dish is a must as if it was by itself, it would be a bit boring because it only has some greens and some slices of avocado. As the add-on, I got me the carne asada ($5.00) that comes with rice. Not bad.. I didn't eat it right after I got home; I meant to get it to eat it the next day which I did (this AM.) It was still fresh where nothing tasted stale. The carne asada was well-cooked with seasonings. In other words, it wasn't salty at all but held good flavors. Now on the receipt, I saw a charge of what's called "takeout service fee" which is 18%. I kind of assumed that this was mostly the mandatory gratuity. At the end of the card transaction, I remember that the different gratuity percentages were listed on the machine and they were quite small because of this fee. It'll be up to you to add more if you wish. Some people might complaint about this mandated system and yet I kind of understand that businesses nowadays must survive by navigating through the rising cost of living. As we have seen our favorite businesses disappear in the recent years, I am here to support them by whatever I could within my power. Whereas the parking on Broadway is a pain in the neck at any time of the day, if I think of a casual Mexican dining in the Baker neighborhood next time, I may stop by here. It's a good establishment to know.

It's also very unassuming. It looks like a very small restaurant on the outside but once you are inside, you'll be shocked to see its good size dining area. This place is all about happiness. I mean seriously!! They care about their customers that get satisfied with their service and meals. And it does draw a very diverse crowd from the Hispanics to Caucasians to Asians, I mean you name it. They also get a lot of to-go orders. Some people came in, grabbed their food and went on their way for the night. My friend got the Torta Los Carboncito. This is a massive sandwich with plenty of meat inside. Since the menu has colored picofor almost each item, what caught my attention was the fish dish. There are two of them: one is trout and the other is something else (I forgot) but I got me the non-trout one. The lady asked me if I wanted the flour or corn tortillas so I went with the corn one. As soon as I got home, my late night snacking started. I only took several bites out of that whatever the huge fish. And oh my goodness, it was so delicious! Well-seasoned with very light salt. Although I mainly got it for tomorrow morning/lunch I had a hard time quit eating because of its deliciousness. Extremely welcoming staff (I even met the owner, Alex as he was dining with his family), quality food and value pricing, this place checks out for the hidden gem restaurant that's not necessarily super fancy but it's worth every penny and time. Yelping is so much fun. That is why I cannot quit my foodie-ness! What a nice discovery!
