Casual setting with great food, friendly service and killer cocktails

Stayed in Bragg over the Labor Day weekend. Decided to pick up some food to go and take it out to the cliffs to watch the sunset. Stopped here as the reviews were decent. As with most places there is a bit of chaos with Covid. Waited in line and placed our order, told 45 min wait. No problem. Food was ready just about 45 min, so far so good. Here is where my review gets nocked down a notch...I'm from the Central Valley and we do a lot of Mexican food. I ordered the garlic prawns, first the chance that these were actually prawns is slim to none. Basically they were a 41/50 medium frozen shrimp. Also when I order anything "garlic" I expect to be punched with the garlic taste/smell...I could see garlic but there was no garlic smell/taste to this dish. Guessing they are using a pre-processed chopped garlic product,, need to go fresh garlic folks! The rice was mushy and the beans lacked flavor also. The only saving grace was the homemade tortillas and chips. My suggestion...they turn up the flavor a bit, go with fresh ingredients (garlic, shrimp) and keep up the good customer service. read more

We love this place! We've been going there since they were in a little tiny space with a small but good menu. Since then, they have moved to a large very nice space with a full bar. We like how they kept a small menu, excellent food and reasonable prices! Customer service is always great and the portions are big. Really some places have this perfect star rating that you walk in expecting at-least a decent food, especially when you have vegetarians in your group and all they can eat is bean and cheese burrito. Pros : The complimentary chips and salsa were the only good thing. Cons: 1: They take only cash. 2: Haphazard management of que, every server has their own que which is pretty confusing for sitting down. 3: The place is really small, I mean literally 15 X 15 probably. 4: Quality of the food is really bad. 5: The quesadilla for $4.99 is served on a tortilla that's meant for Tacos filled with exactly 6 small steak pieces. Seriously this was a joke on the part of me ordering it as quesadilla and getting a Taco instead ! 6: We asked for completely vegetarian burrito and they served with refried beans, you know what I mean (pork !!). 7: The place is really Dirty. This restaurant like many in the area forgets to ad enough substance to their vegetarian burritos. This means more "high quality" beans, rice, and cheese. Soupy beans cooked down to mush, a little overcooked rice sprinkled with a dab of cheese, and a few tablespoons of shredded iceberg lettuce isn't a real burrito. Offering burritos stuffed with about 60% whole pinto or black beans not soupy beans, about 15% quality rice (maybe brown rice), 15% quality cheese, and 5% lettuce or spinach, and 5% extras makes sense. Salsa, guacamole, and sour cream are best on the side usually. Restaurant has a nice vibe and decor, looks like a great bar, quality non-vegetarian options. Feeling hungry an hour after eating at a Mexican restaurant is highly unusual except in Fort Bragg when eating vegetarian options. read more

Tried this place while waiting to pick up my laundry next door from Lucy's. (I don't have a washer or dryer.) One taco de lengua and two quesadillas de camaron with avena over ice. My partner and I walked in a little skeptically--as the place was in a strip mall and a little difficult to locate--but what a FIND! Atmosphere: We were greeted with a warm smile, and homemade chips and salsa. The menus were laminated 8.5 x 11 sheets with English on the front and Spanish on the back. The walls are painted with brightly colored murals, and you can see into the kitchen. The restaurant has a very intimate feel, and the one-woman "front of house staff" (owner?) did her utmost to make you feel welcome without being overbearing. I also noticed various community involvement hints (framed local soccer team pictures, plaques, and 'proud local' stickers.) Food: The fare was your regular Mexican restaurant food (my favorite part, "ask if our tamales are available"), lots of vegetarian options, and at very reasonable prices. I had a pork tamale and a chile relleno (excellent) and a soda, my partner had a taco/sope combination, Mexican Coke, and a guacamole (a must-get!) for us to share. The food was very well presented--the combination plate came on a plate the size of a serving platter, and I loved the brightly-colored mismatched plates.) The food was made from scratch with pride and love you could taste (see pictures.) Overall, a wholly wonderful eating experience. My only caution is that they're cash/check only. So hit an ATM and check them out. They're worth the search, and you'll leave full and happy. read more

Not just the standard Sonoran fare, they get a little creative with some fantastic dishes like the Tacos Gubernador, and even the "ordinary" dishes are extremely well made. Chile relleno was okay but the carne asada tostada was excellent. The steak had really good flavor, loved the thin-shaved lettuce, and the crema was lightly drizzled vs. dolloped in the center. Small detail but made a big difference! Only problem, if you consider this a problem, is they don't take credit cards. Picked up some burritos on the way out of town. They were A-OK, basic burritos, nothing to write home about. They only had 2 flavors of Jarritos sodas, but at least one was Mandarin, the best flavor. 2 burritos and 2 jarritos came to $22. The chips and salsa that come with were delish! This spot is CASH ONLY, which I did not realize until after I ordered. It is a little hole in the wall in a strip of businesses sharing a parking lot with CVS. This is very decent food and great prices- 3 taquitos for $5? Yes please! For two of us going all out, cervesas & guacamole and dinner for both, including tax and a very generous tip under $40. My plate containing 2 chicken tacos, 1 enchillada, rice beans and a salad cost $12.99. The portion was large, and I took some home. Cash only so be prepared. Also be prepared to wait, there wasn't one empty table the entire time, some got impatient and left while others waited outside- on a Monday night! No one waited THAT long, but the restaurant was packed full so people who were waiting had to stand outside. Is it the best mexican food I've ever consumed in my life? No. Considering the reasonably speedy service considering the crowd, the extremely low prices for food that was throughly satisfying though- oh I would absolutely go again. read more

While on our vacation my wife and I decided to try this place out as it was highly reviewed. When we arrived there was a short line, but it was fairly quick to be seated. We were quickly brought some chips and salsa and asked for our drink order. The drinks (7-up and Pepsi) came out very quickly as well. After a few minutes our waitress came back and took our order, this is where things took a turn for the worse. I saw that the chips and salsa were not refilled and would be as only the first basket was free. Not a huge problem as we ordered quite a good and some nachos anyway. While we waited my wife and I chatted about how nice the hotel was about our walk along glass beach. It was nice until we noticed it had been a while since we last saw our waitress and our drinks were empty. She saw us looking around, and came up and hesitantly asked if we would like a refill now or when our food came. I took her hint, refills were not free. This was starting to become a problem because it's not like the service was timely, at this point we had waited about 30 minutes. We continued our conversation and I noticed a few more tables getting antsy about the wait. The line was also out the door and there was a crowd of about 7-8 people outside our window. Around 45 minutes later the waitress comes out and apologizes for the wait and says it'll be almost ready. 10 more minutes pass by and the food does come out piping hot, and it was very delicious so it absolved them of the issues with the wait. Another guest just next to our table was not as pleased. The wife had received her food around the same time as us, but the husbands food did not arrive until we were finishing out meal (around 20 minutes later). The chef/owner came out and apologized in a rushed/nonchalant way and as he was walking around said the food is free. The husband was not pleased with that response and said, "it's not about the money, it's how your handling the situation." The owner care back and said it's all good the foods free and walked away. At this point the couple got up and stormed off. Overall the food was good and deserves a 4.5, but the service brings it down to 3. There were more than enough waitresses but the organization and management seemed poor. We were not the only table who seemed to have slower service but luckily we are patient people. I'd recommend that if the drinks flow freely and the chips keep coming it would help distract people a bit more. read more

My husband and I got into Fort Bragg around 5PM from a 5 hours drive to the coast and were starved. We were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary and debated a fancy meal vs. casual and went with casual because we were so hungry from not having lunch to save time on the drive. By the time we got to Los Gallitos it was 8:30PM and we saw online they closed at 9 so we grabbed a couple seats at the bar because we work in the industry and wanted to try and rush ourselves to help the staff close on time. To our surprise the wonderful bartender did not seem annoyed, but rather welcoming and happy to help us. I did not catch her name, but she was a blonde who seemed like she's been working there awhile and had a wonderful personality. Just from this, we were already so happy we picked this restaurant, but it just kept getting better! I ordered a beer, but my husband decided to order a margarita and being Hispanic he can be a hard judge...the Marg was delish! Tart and sweetness were well balanced making it easy to drink and just the right amount of tequila. We were given 2 salsas, fresh guac and chips. Such a great way to start our dinner. I debated on a couple things on the menu which again the awesome bartender listened to my debate and gave me details of each item which was a super helpful. My husband got the wet burrito with asada. It was massive and amazing! The sauce on top was a well balanced mild red sauce that would be enjoyed by most anyone, but still had tons of flavor. My husband works in a Mexican restaurant and one of his biggest pet peeves is a poorly wrapped burrito and when each ingredient is all stuck in one part of the burrito so one bite is all beans but the next is all rice and son on, but this one was wrapped perfectly and he got components of all the ingredients in each bite. He had nothing but wonderful things to say, and I got to have a bite and was loving it. I went with the al pastor torta and it was easily one of the best tortas I've ever had. The bread they use is perfect to hold everything in there that has a bit of a firm exterior but so soft on the inside. The meat was cooked perfectly and I could taste the sweet hints of pineapple without it being too much. There was a perfect balance of mayo, beans, lettuce and the avocado was slightly smashed so it wouldn't slip out with every bite. I am honestly so bummed we live 5 hours away because I will be dreaming about this meal for a long time to come and we will make a trip back just to visit this restaurant in the future. Lastly when I went to the restroom I was able to see inside the kitchen and dish pit and of course I snooped and it was super clean as was the restroom, so extra stars for that! read more

Came here for lunch twice while on vacation in Fort Bragg. Both meals were excellent. The steak and chicken burritos were awesome with super flavorful meat. The nachos were piled high. We will definitely be back. The dine-in area is very small with only a few tables so consider getting the food to go as we did. Back again after a year. Same excellent flavor and great service! We checked out this restaurant after seeing all the positive reviews. We ordered fish fillet with rice and beans, fish tacos and ceviche tostada. The food was decent. Service was good. We were served by two nice ladies who seemed to be overworked since they were the only two waitresses that night. All was well except the wait time for the food. It took over 30 minutes to get our food. We saw many people come in to pick up their food as they might have called in earlier. There were only 3 people working in yhr kitchen so they were definitely stretched too thin because people kept coming in to sit down and pick up. We didn't get refills on our water - asked for it but the water never came. Asked for the bill and ended up having to go wait in line at the cash register to pay. Because of the wait time and the food being nothing out of the ordinary, we give them 3 stars. read more

Not good, I think the good reviews are from the old location. Worst part, we felt sick after eating there. Best part was the price which was good. $23 for nachos and taqutios and 2 drinks. Chairs were not comfortable. Server was nice enough and service was ok but it took a while to get a refill. I ordered a coke from the fountain and it was like club soda so I sent it back and got root beer it was only a little bit better. The cups were tiny though. Their lemonade is a bottled, Calypso brand I think. Iced tea and diet coke was canned. Food came out fast, too fast, because it wasn't very hot. Nachos aren't hard to do well, just give me chips and a lot of cheese. These barely had any of either, lots of onions, beans a small chopped meat. There was a lot of guacamole on our plates at least.
