Have only ordered off of delivery sites, so I can't speak for the service or restaurant itself, but the food is solid! If you're a fan of queso, this place will be you're jam! They feature a lot of dishes that they smother and queso and I've yet to have one that hasn't been delicious! Standouts include the Three Amigos, Chori Pollo, and Chimichangas. They also have unbeatable lunch specials some of which are under 7 bucks. You can't even get a value meal at McDonald's for under 7 bucks anymore! The portions are big, so bring an appetite! I met a couple friends at El Guerrero. The restaurant is exceptionally large, taking up a vast section of one side of an old strip mall. The energy inside was high, as the restaurant was busy with a ton of people. Our waitress was efficient & nice. My desire was to order chicken enchiladas, but I'm kind of picky, only wanting them if they're made with white meat. I asked & the waitress told us she speaks no English. My response was to order a cheese enchilada instead with a chili relleno. The chips & salsa arrived & the best part of the meal was the salsa. It was extremely tasty. The main dish arrived & it was only average. The enchilada was simply a tortilla wrapped around a chunk of only half-melted cheese, & covered in a dull sauce. The chili relleno was very disappointing. It was merely a puddle of liquid with nothing identifiable in it. There was no whole chili stuffed. It was just a soupy mess. OK, so I have this ongoing love/hate relationship with this place. Tex Mex is one of my three favorite cuisines and El Guerrero comes the closest to it of most places in the area. Chips, good. Salsa, good. tacos, good, enchiladas, good. tamales, good. Chile relleno, OK. guac tostada, OK. The service is usually pretty good. But my big beef here is the cleanliness, which is very inconsistent. I actually stopped eating here for awhile because it was dirty all of the time. But I keep getting pulled back when my Texas roots scream loudly. So, if you want very good Tex Mex and a chance to build up your immune system at the same time, El Guerrero is the place for you. I just finished my third visit to this place. It seems to get better each time. Tonight, I had the Carnitas Rancheras, which other places would call Chili Verde. It was excellent! Tender chunks of pork in green chili sauce served with rice and beans and three tortillas. I couldn't be happier! Great food, far more authentic than some other places, and fair prices. I'll admit, I've been gravitating towards spending my Taco Tuesdays at places that definitely hype up the atmosphere and vibe over the food offerings. Nothing wrong with that though, as navigating life in the time of COVID-19 really does make you appreciate physical togetherness with people in public. I digress! I chose to give El Guerrero a try for Tampa Bay Yelp's Virtual Cinco de Mayo/Taco Tuesday initiative. I admit that I know downtown and St. Pete eateries better than the ones down the block from my house so I am so glad that I was able to find El Guerrero through these circumstances. The food I ordered included their popular California burrito, and two soft tacos--one shrimp and one steak. The food was definitely a great value for the portion and the flavors were fresh, straightforward, and satisfying. I liked how well-seasoned the steak was and their in-house salsa has a nice heat to it without being overbearing. The tortilla chips were also a generous portion and weren't too salty. I look forward to trying more of the menu (hopefully in person!) soon. read more

Me and my partner dream abt the fried ice cream and chimichangas. This is definitely the best mexican restaurant in the area that I have found and coming from Los Angeles I have a high standard. I got the beef chimichangas and the meat was shredded and slow cooked making it very tender and flavorful. The queso on top really sent this dish over the top. The rice and beans were standard I liked how mine came with pico and sour cream. The free salsa that came was good a little more on the spicier side compared to a mild salsa. The enchiladas and taco were standard as well no complaints and my boyfriend loved it. The star was probably the fried ice cream in the taco shell so good! We went into a food coma and fell asleep right when we got home at 9pm which is early for 23 yr olds. I haven't had sleep like that in forever and woke up refreshed like a new woman. Hidden in the back of a shopping plaza is this great Mexican Restaurant! Went here the other day between lunch and dinner. Working in the restaurant industry myself, I know this time can often be when workers change shifts and service can go down. Not at El Guerrero! We were promptly greeted and welcomed. They have a superb and rather large menu. I opted for a Jarritos (Mexican Soda), but do not be fooled, they have great beer and Margarita options as well. I had a large hunger and decided to choose from one of their dinner combinations. The #3 Combination is an enchilada, a chile relleno and one taco. You can choose beef, chicken or beans. I thoroughly enjoyed their warm chips and homemade salsa while I waited for my meal. The meal came out relatively fast and steaming hot! All the dishes were so delicious and the flavor blended so well. I couldn't decide what to eat first! The atmosphere of the restaurant is casual and fun. Beautiful paintings everywhere (see pics). We have been here a few times and it has been consistently good. The restaurant is colorful and vibrant. Lots of seating available. Chips and salsa are soooo good! Chips come out warm and crispy and their homemade salsa is delicious. Menu is HUGE. Lots of items on here that you can't find at other Mexican restaurants. Such as mole poblano. El Guerrero has become our favorite Mexican place and our go-to. They are on UberEats for us. However, we first tried them in person and have been to the restaurant many times as well. The first thing you should know is that their menu is HUGE. If you can think of a Mexican dish, it is probably here. This makes me happy because my favorite dishes (Chili Rellenos and Queso Fundido) are both available here. They are great versions of them too. You are served salsa and chips with each meal (including delivery). I like the salsa a lot. It is not the best I have had, but it is solid. The chips are homemade. Order the Queso Fundido with Chorizo. It is phenomenal here and has become our favorite version (oddly it has been different at every Mexican restaurant we have tried). The veggies are plentiful and thick, the chorizo is flavorful. The cheese is more liquidy, but the flavor is there and we like the outcome. For entrees, I haven't gone wrong yet and have loved everything I have ordered. I have tried fajitas, chili rellenos, taco salad (simple, but tasty), and a few different burritos. All good. I will say the service is lacking. It is slow and can be frustrating. Last time we were brought the salsa and some food with heat before receiving drinks. It can also be warm in the restaurant. We really prefer to order via UberEats for these reasons. However, we still think it is worth it. I would recommend them. If you can order via Uber, it is a great option. read more

My friends and I visited on Cinco de Mayo understanding it would be busy. The wait wasn't terrible for a table, but after that it went downhill. After about 30 minutes, we went in search of getting our own waters. The couple seated next to us looked equally as bored sipping on the remnants of their margaritas. We started chatting and they said they've been waiting 40 minutes for the check. A total of 45 minutes later it was apparent no one was coming to take drink and food orders so we walked out.
