The restaurant is decorated really fun and nicely and it was very clean! They also have tables that can fit very large groups! Our waitress was really nice. However, our group of about 12 had orders come out at all different times. Half our party was done eating by the time the second half got their food!! The waitress said she probably forgot to put the orders in and comped the last two meals that came out late, which was nice but still did not change the fact. The food was only mediocre. The guacamole had a sort of acidic taste and tasted like it definitely came out of a package. Overall it's a fun restaurant but nothing impressive. read more

I don't NOT recommend! I will NEVER be back! Only came here because there was such a long wait at Texas Roadhouse next time I'll just wait. They told us they had only a 10 min wait time yeah 10 mins to be seated (it was closer to 15) then we got seated an waited 45 mins to get our food the waitress came out and apologize about the wait saying the kitchen was behind. Once we finally got our food it was cold and terrible they use can chicken in the combo burrito and that was about the only meat it had in it despite the menu stating it was supposed to have beef and pork. This review has been a long time coming so here it goes. Tonight my wife and sister-in-law went in and she comes home and tells me they were sat and not even greeted for a half hour, how does that even happen? Not only this, but a manager never came over once they had been greeted and were not offered any kind of compensation. I worked 10 years in the industry and that is just completely unacceptable on any level. The fact a manager didn't even come over is just to show how little they must care about their product. Right now they are just riding the coat tails of the reputation this place built over the years because it used to really be very good. I'm not sure if ownership changed or what but the experience now is just bad, there really isn't another way to say it. The food is bland, like really bland, the salsa is pretty much tomato flavored water. The frozen drinks are still pretty good but then the entrees just lack any kind of real flavor. Was good about 20 years ago. Craig used to come through my line at Smith's and barter on the price of tomatoes and when my sister worked at Los Hermanos would check our receipt to make sure we paid for everything. Now his kids apparently run the place. It put a bad taste in my mouth when their restaurant unfortunately burned down and I saw his daughter doing a GoFundMe for the 'employees.' Yeah, whatever. This one is OK. Here is a case where the name makes the reputation. Since this is a big part of the college life in Provo it is worth a visit once. After that it loses it novelty. The food is alright. The chips are fun and tasty but the atmosphere is just weird. And loud. There is a random balcony, some stiff booth tables, and a greenhouse-type section (this is the noisiest spot). This isn't the most authentic Mexican food that I've eaten, but man oh man did they not skimp on the shrimp! The sauce was just ok..Not too spicy. But when I ordered the 1/2 plate of shrimp fajitas, there was enough for 4 fajitas! 10 decent-sized shrimp were on that sizzling platter just waiting to be slathered in peppers, onions, sour cream and all the stuff you need for a good fajita. Had the fajitas which were very good as well as the horchata which I enjoyed, and having tried horchata from around Central America, as well as various state-side places this was up to par (though my favorite is found in Guatemala). Ordered take out. No chips/salsa included in takeout - would have been almost $7 more for the smallest salsa and a bag of chips. Food was pretty bad for a non fast food restaurant (I'd compare it to Del Taco), especially for the price. This is a safe bet if you think salt is too spicy. The only flavor was the horchata which had an unusual spiced flavor that I could quite place. I ordered chicken nachos. The chicken was tasteless, the chips were stale. The tomato was almost white. They put enchalada sauce on that makes it all a soggy mess if you don't eat like a vacuum, it's not even a good tasting sauce. Having tried almost all Mexican restaurants in the Utah valley area I can say this is a very consistent and good one. It's definitely not the most authentic Mexican food but it is really good. They have good chips and mild salsa. We usually get smothered burrito there and make sure to try their fried ice cream. They are the best at the fried ice cream. read more

I have to say that I'm underwhelmed at the food at Los Hermanos. I would rather spend the money and go to Cafe Rio to be honest. This place has two redeeming qualities. First, the drinks they have are marvelous. I generally hate horchata, but this is the one place I have found that I actually enjoy it. And it's free refills on the horchata. Huge bonus. Second, it's a fun atmosphere. Every time I've gone the servers have been great and overall it's just a fun place to be. With that all being said, you would be better served going somewhere else for great tasting Mexican food. read more

We all know what the chips and salsa are like, so I will spare you the details. I ordered the smothered burrito. The green chile sauce on top soaked the tortilla, yet left the thick chunk of shredded beef as dry as the desert. It was legitimately hard to eat without dipping in something, although I wouldn't suggest going for the "guacamole", which doesn't taste like it could be anything other than watered down mashed avacado. Zero flavor. I have mashed an avacado and sprinkled salt on it, and that tasted lifetimes better. The rice and beans were unremarkable. And the service was average. My wife and I came here on a whim. The chips and salsa were excellent. The service was great. I had the smothered burrito which was good. The Spanish rice was flavorful. My wife had the taquitos. They were much larger than she expected, but the chicken actually had good flavor. She got the cheese enchiladas as well. Great place for standard Tex-Mex fare. Upon arrival we were told it would be a 10 minute wait which was accurate to get seated and order our food what they don't tell you is when the kitchen is running behind 45+ minute tickets from the time I started watching so when my family finally got our food my sister's plate had a long black hair in the food from one of the kitchen staff u can visablly see running back and fourth with no gloves or hair nets on. Plates had been sitting out so long her plate had no heat to it what so ever my cheese had set up in my chilli reano the meat had a gritty feeling and was salty salty (and I like salt more than most) it almost seemed like they had salted canned chicken. It seems like if you've seen one negative review, you've seen them all. It's important to realize that sites and services like this fuel negativity. People are more likely to leave negative reviews than positive. So here I am to leave my two cents. I have been coming to Los Hermanos for the better part of 20 years. I have many childhood memories here and have spent countless birthdays and special occasions with this restaurant. Los Hermanos is something I crave on a near constant basis. I've relocated to Nevada, and in fact I drove here this week, 6 hours, with the intention to eat here again. I'm not some country bumpkin who has no experience with "real" Mexican food, in fact I have traveled all across the country with my boyfriend searching for the best food spots. We consider ourselves "foodies" to say the least. My mother's family are Hispanic and so I am no stranger to flavor and spice. I will say Los Hermanos tends to lack in the spice department but you must consider their location and the customers they cater to. What I'm trying to say is, I have eaten a lot of places and have been raised on good food. To this day, when someone asks me what the best Mexican food I've had is, I will tell them Los Hermanos in Provo Utah. Its a friendly environment with killer taquitos and chimis. As I've sat writing this, I've eaten two bowls of their salsa and chips (best corn chips I've ever had). If I have any criticism, it's that their presentation can be messy (but I'm not here to look at the stuff, I'm here to eat it), the food is lacking the signature "spicy" that we come to look for in Mexican food, and they put their plates under warmers for a bit too long. The food is usually super piping hot and the sauces tend to get stuck to the edges of the plate. I love this establishment and will continue to go out of my way to visit whenever possible. read more

I absolutely loved going to the Los Hermanos in Provo so we figured the one in Orem would be just as good. We were told our wait for a party of four would be "twenty minutes" but we ended up waiting over an hour. When we got seated, there were several clean tables of four available and many other tables that were empty. Several tables still had food left on them and were not bussed by the time we left. We waited another hour for our food. When it arrived, the portions were small and the quality was horrible. The food was room temperature and dismal. My tacos lacked seasoning and I didn't finish my meal. It is clear that they are very understaffed and are still figuring things out. I hope they get into the swing of things soon. So boring. Bland, unimaginative, canned, processed, packaged. The food wasn't BAD but this just kinda feels like the lowest common denominator in Mexican food. Gets 2 stars since service and ambiance are good (Except for the happy birthday song that almost elicited a homicidal response). I had the steak fajita, which was good temperature at least. The guacamole, tortillas, tomatoes, and lettuce all appeared to be from a cafeteria food-service company. Low quality, mass-produced meals. The waiter recommended the fish tacos, he said the 2 years that he had worked there "everyone" that has had them has loved them. Well, since I am a fish taco lover, I had to try them. They were probably the worst fish taco that I ever tasted. Everything that was on it seemed fresh enough but it was just terribly conceived. I've never had one that was put together like this one. It was like the were making a regular beef taco but just put fish in it instead of beef. That's not how you make a fish taco. The chops and salsa were pretty good, they seemed fresh. In a nutshell: bland food, overpriced, good pina colada It's hard to expect authentic mexican food in the middle of Utah but I still expect my food to have flavor. My husband and I stopped in for lunch since it was near our apartment and I just have to wonder how it has accumulated all the "best mexican restaurant in utah valley" plaques that adorn its waiting area. The atmosphere is somewhat american mexican feeling and the staff was friendly enough. There were only like 3 other parties in the restaurant when we went since it was about 2 in the afternoon so service was reasonable quick. I ordered a virgin pina colada to drink and I have to say that was good. I'm picky about my pina coladas and felt it was well balanced between pineapple and coconut. I ordered a beef chimichanga and my husband ordered the smothered burrito, both recommended as favorites both by the waitress and on the menu. My chimichanga was pretty flavorless and towards the end of the meal I actually tore the tortilla off and ate that, leaving the rest of the filling; something I've never done before because I LOVE chimichangas. My rice was ok but the beans were completely flavorless. I'm talking not a hint of flavor at all. I thought beans had SOME kind of natural flavor but I guess not. My husband also mentioned that his food was bland. On top of that, the portions were the smallest I've ever seen at a mexican restaurant. Worst Mexican food in all of Utah--I say that as a Mexican and as someone who has taste buds. The worst offender here: the fried rice was never fried--it's full of boiled rice and tomato sauce. no salt. no flavor. Everything is gloppy with layers and layers of cheese. Nothing fresh. The only redeeming quality of this restaurant is their deep friend ice cream. It's heavenly--so go just for the dessert.
