Stumbled across this place in Hollywood completely by chance. I was craving Peruvian, searched nearby, and this place popped up. I'll be honest, when we pulled in, we almost turned around. The restaurant looked like it was under renovation, and it was completely empty. But let this be a reminder: never judge a restaurant by first impressions. We gave it a shot, and I'm so glad we did. The woman taking care of us was incredibly friendly and accommodating, especially with my wife's special requests. The service was warm and welcoming from start to finish. Now for the food... wow. The Lomo Saltado was great. The steak was cooked perfectly, the flavors were outstanding, and everything tasted fresh. Even the salad was excellent, which isn't something I usually rave about. Funny part. When we walked in, I thought, "Uh-oh... why is nobody here?" But as soon as we finished our food, it was like someone flipped a switch. The place started filling up, and by the time we walked out, it was packed. I guess we just arrived at the perfect time! It does look like they're expanding and renovating the restaurant, which is great to see. I'm not just going to tell you to try Kausitas.... I'm going to tell you to run there. My family and I have frequented this restaurant many times because the food is genuinely very good. Unfortunately, after our most recent experience, we decided we won't be returning. We visited on Tuesday night as a party of 7 (5 adults and 2 children), and we were actually the only customers dining inside the restaurant. I had called ahead beforehand to confirm they were open and let them know the size of our party. When we arrived, the table was nicely prepared, which we appreciated. The food itself was great. That has never been the issue. What completely changed the experience for us was the automatic 25% gratuity added to the bill. When I politely asked why the gratuity was so high, I was told their structure is based on party size: 18% for 3+ people, 20% for 5+, and 25% for 7+. While the receipt does mention that parties of 3 or more are subject to a service charge, nowhere are those percentages clearly disclosed beforehand. A 25% automatic gratuity for a table of 7, especially in an otherwise empty restaurant with average service, feels excessive and misleading. For context, I am not someone who refuses to tip. I regularly tip 18-20%, even when service is mediocre, because I understand this is how servers make a living. But customers should be allowed to decide whether service warrants 25%, not have it automatically imposed without clear transparency. What made it worse was the dismissive attitude we received when simply asking about it. Again, the food was good. That's what makes this disappointing. But good food alone does not make up for poor customer experience and lack of transparency. Will not be returning. read more

Stopped at this Peruvian restaurant on a whim on our way down to Miami. After driving to several locations in the area which looked a little shady we settled on Los Kausitas. Located in a small strip mall, small restaurant. One way to tell if a restaurant is clean is how the restrooms are kept so I checked it out and I was glad. Restroom was very clean. For appetizers we ordered the traditional papa a la huancaina and causa de pulpo. Delicious as always. For entrees. We ordered mixed ceviche, tacu tacu with steak and chaufa. I recently ordered some ceviche to go and it was very good. But I think it would have been even better if I had eaten there in the restaurant. The dining area is not large; it's like eating with family. A sign there says their food is authentic, not fusion or any other mutation. "Just like you make at home." Well, even though I have made a successful attempt at making my own ceviche in the past, I can safely say that Los Kausitas makes food MUCH BETTER than I make at home. Wow! I found a small intimate and totally Peruvian restaurant in an out of the way little shopping center just off Hollywood Blvd. What a surprise the place was quaint and the food was generous and savory! A real Peruvian place not fusion or cuisine just home made food at a great price! There's no wait staff ! Just one person taking care of you with a smile and knowledge of the menu. This Peruvian restaurant delivers solid food and good service. The ceviche was very tasty, and the chaufa de mariscos (seafood fried rice) hit the spot! Walked in here randomly and was pleasantly surprised! We were immediately seated and greeted with a smile by our waitress Julia. Se recommended we get the sampler platter. It consisted of fish ceviche - which was flavorful and fresh Seafood fried rice - it was the star of the show, for me. Others said the ceviche was its. Rolled in with group of six for a late lunch. Seated immediately. There were three different languages spoke at the table so confusing. Carlos ordered for the table being fluent in Spanish so I really have no idea what all we ate. I did try it all. We ate family style so everything was shared. Pour service. We were 4 customers and ask for water 30 min later we remind them and they brought 2 glasses of water, left us waiting until we asked again for the other 2 glasses of water. The food took forever to be served and the easiest and most simple plate (child plate nuggets and fries) didn't arrive. Again we have to remind them her plate hadn't arrived. Our appetizers was never brought and we told them to remove it from the order since it was never served and the main course had already been served, they said ok but at the end when the check came thay still charged for it. Again we had to call the and tell them to remove it from the check. Worst service ever! Guess they don't care much for customers service because the 18% gratuity was still add to the check. UPDATE: let me reiterate their food is good even though portion sizes have gone down, like if you order "tallarines verdes" it used to come with soup, now they don't add a soup but ok, now the service/communication lately is terrible, specially between the kitchen and servers. I call to place an order and they tell me it has to be paid in person. There's the big and the small, I told them I want the big one. And to please save one. I'm on my way. I'm a client, for years. When I get there, there's no more big soup only small even though they made it seem as I could order many small ones. I told them that's why I wanted to put the order over the phone since that was supposed to be my lunch and I already made the drive. I said fine. Give me a little one. When you find a Peruvian restaurant you already know the food is going to be delicious. But the five stars are definitely for the customer service, there is this really nice lady that greets you, has so much energy, and just makes you feel like you arrive at your Tía's house. She will suggest the best food available as soon as you arrive, she jokes, she laughs, she is so kind. My mom often stops by with my child and they're treated like family. We were excited the ceviche is good luckily we asked for it extra spicy. It was barely spicy but would of truly have been disappointed if we would of just asked for Ceviche de Pescado without the extra spicy. Then the arrow chaufa de Carne would of been almost perfect but it lacked a pinch of salt. However the Bistek a Lo Pobre was the most disappointing. It needed flavor and or salt. And the to go bag didn't bring any. No sauces were offered so the whole experience with the exception of the Ceviche was dry and tasteless. It was not homemade food. Came to this place for the reviews! Service was very good by 2 young ladies and the place was clean! For food, they only have Swai fish and I personally prefer others as this is a farm fish of not so good quality. So decided to go with the shrimp ceviche that was actually very good.... This is where the second star came.... For this ceviche.... Then ordered my traditional "lomo saltado" and asked if it is good and made with the "smokiness" that characterizes this plate and the lady told me this was one of the best sellers... Well, to my disappointment, it came and the flavor was lame at best!! The meat almost inedible... to the point I had to spit a piece...horrible temperature, over cooked.... The fries were undercooked and the rice was not fresh.... Too the point that they did not even hear it well.... Horrible!!! Incredible little hole in the wall! Located in a plaza/strip mall so it has an adequate amount of parking. I've been here twice already and have never had trouble parking. The service is very sweet and immediate. The servers were very patient the first time where i was extremely indecisive and they led me into the right direction. The food is so flavorful and substancial! The first time i went i got lomo saltado that actually came with a soup (included) that was equally delicious and a pleasant surprise. The second time i got tallarín saltado which was outstanding. I would also like to add that the food was so quick and the place has never been annoyingly packed. I came across this little gem hidden away for all but passersby's to see. It is authentic delicious Peruvian food. The location has no frills, very low key, the waitresses are very friendly and attentive and the ceviche was incredible. It was served as Peruvians serve it with kernels of fresh corn, sweet potato And yucca. The rocotto hot sauce was superb.
