Stopped in on June 12 2020 at around 5 o clock to grab something to eat. I'm from Texas, so I read the reviews and decided to eat there. There were a few open seats at the bar, so I decided to eat and drink there instead of a regular table. (Wish'd I would've gotten a table.) I had on a Rosa Parks green T-shirt on, not really thinking anything of it I sat down. Almost immediately I began hearing the 2 gentlemen sitting next to me start in on the racist talk. Calling me names such as (please accept my apologies for the crude language) nigger-lover, faggot, curly headed nigger-lover, hippy liberal etc. They never directly said it to me, yet they knew they could be heard, and continued on berating me for the next 30 minutes or so. At some point they even started chanting 'white-power' loud enough for anyone within 10-30 feet could here. NOTHING was done. I continued to take the verbal lashing for another 10 minutes or so before one of the gentlemen asked me why I was wearing a Rosa Parks shirt. I explained, that it was just a shirt, and he told me that "here in Blue Ridge we don't wear Rosa Parks shirts." At this point I'd lost my cool and began repeating back to him, at a pretty high volume, all of the horrible language and slurs I had endured during my visit there. Instead of a manager or one of the bar-maids working there to come ask them to leave, I had another customer confront ME and tell me to stop with the language, or he and I were "going to have problems". I apologized to the man, but he wasn't hearing it, apparently in that town, you are to "take things outside and fight" if you have issues. Being that I was there representing my company, and the fact that it would've been 2 guys against one, I wasn't willing to "step outside" and get my ass kicked over a damn T-shirt. The manager however, did show up but did not ask the racist patrons to leave. Didn't comp my meal, and when I left, they were still there. Please do not eat here if you think this type of behavior is something that is acceptable. Never in my life have I ever heard the ignorant things coming out of these guys' mouth, and never in my life could I imagine that someone in the restaurant would have just let it happen, and literally make me feel unsafe. Longest walk back to my car in the parking lot of all time, as I literally feared for my safety the entire time. Please share this with anyone you meet, wanting to attend this restaurant. read more

I had a really disappointing experience at Los Mayas Mexican Grill in Taylors -- and sadly, this wasn't the first time. My family and I have been going since they first opened, hoping things would improve, but every single time, at least one of us ends up getting sick afterward. That should've been our sign to stop giving them chances, but we tried to support them as a local spot. Big mistake. The service wasn't terrible, just really lazy. We were seated and then mostly forgotten about. It took forever to get our drinks, which were $3.50 for basic fountain sodas -- ridiculously overpriced. They got my mom's drink wrong, and instead of making a fresh one, they just dumped it out and reused the same cup. That's a clear health code violation. The chips were old and stale, the salsa tasted off, and the food was dry, overcooked, and clearly microwaved. The beans were watery and bland -- worse than any homemade version I've ever had. Honestly, everything tasted like it was made from leftover scraps from earlier in the week. There were flies buzzing around our table the whole time, which made eating really uncomfortable. Honestly, the whole experience felt like we were sitting on the set of Kitchen Nightmares -- just waiting for Gordon Ramsay to walk in, yell at the kitchen, and shut it down. And don't even get me started on the prices. They've gone up about 15% since they opened. It feels like they're just taking advantage of the popularity while cutting corners on food and cleanliness.
