The reason for the average review they had my girl waiting for her table for literally 4 hours, the place gets pretty packed on weekends so its best to come early and u cannot rsvp on weekends or we would have done so. What had me upset is 1 of the waitresses comes out and states "o we are almost ready for your party ,laying out the chips n salsa. "(At closing time smh) We make it inside strike 1,they barely started setting the table up than brought out "chips n salsa",(after our party sat down),2 it was closed and more than half the place was empty which let me know that they could've brought the party in much quicker, (there were alot of empty dirty tables). Strike 3 I was just saddened my girl didn't get to experience the mariachi band to sing to her for her birthday. Positives: lots of gasoline'a lol (free chug off shots for our table), tiaras and lays were passed out, 2 chains for the fellas. The food was alright. All n all they did their best to turn it up and it still ended up being a cool experience, and the birthday girl enjoyed herself which is all that matters. We stumbled on this restaurant yesterday, and because we love to try new places, we decided to give it a try. We were seated pretty quickly and the staff were very friendly and polite. The atmosphere was interesting and almost neo-noir, like something out of a Quentin Tarantino movie! I like it immediately. Our waitress was very nice and friendly. However, it did take a while to get our food, but once it came, it was delicious. I had the grilled shrimp (amazing) and the kids/hubby had tacos. I visited this joint with my sister and her family. We were a big group of 10 with 6 children and the staff was very accommodating. We didn't wait at all and we're seated immediately even though the place was a pretty busy spot. I'm a New Yorker so I wanted a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine in California. The appetizer was probably the best thing we ordered. The nachos were salty and crunch with a mild salsa provided. We ordered about three servings of guacamole and hands down one of the best guacamole I've ever had in my life. Finger licking good. I was pretty much full on guacamole and chips alone. We waited a while for our order. I am familiar with New York Mexican food where tortillas are usually small and made with corn. So I ordered two tacos and when they came out they were the size of dinner plates and the tortillas were flour. I prefer the texture provided in the corn tortillas as well as the smaller portions. The fillings were chunky chicken and salad. Honestly, it didn't hit the spot with tacos. My son ordered the steak and rice and it was a bit bland. Their fries were ok. Could have been crispier or cut smaller. The servings were huge and filled up our party for sure but in terms of flavor and taste-it was lacking. My sister said they've been there before and noticed the difference in our visit, so maybe it was a different chef or new ingredients. I don't know. I still enjoyed the day with my family. If I could give one star I would. I expected a wait time due to the sign I seen first walking in. What I didn't expect was to sit there for over 15 minutes waiting to be seated and get NO type of acknowledgement. Poorly ran. I give it a ZERO stars if I could. I went with my family and waited over an hour for my food. My kids, 4, 8, & 10 year olds, were very hungry. I asked them several times about my food and I got the run around. Yes, they were busy, but they told me several times my food was coming up. Came here for my sister in laws Birthday last weekend. We had a good time. The drinks were well made. I asked for a cranberry margarita something that's not normally in their menu but the bartender whipped it up well. My sister in laws birthday drink came out awesome and she loved it. Our food took some time to come out. My ebchilda suizas werent anything special in fact I've eaten better in town. They lacked flavor but the rice and beans were good. My husband got a molcajete, it was really good and flavorful. We had kids in out party and the resturant provides the kids with glow sticks 3 stars because service was slow and damn near unavailable as the waitress didnt walk around from table to table as you would expect. Another negative was that had we not been seated by a basket of silverware we would have had to hound down the waitress to get some. read more

Really really good Mexican food! The only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars out of 5 is because of the interior. The interior is out dated and has 3 very large screens throughout, playing music videos. It's just an odd thing to do. The food is impeccable. I ordered the chicken fajitas and let me tell you, they do not hold back on the meat. The whole plate is practically chicken with a few sautéed veggies. My boyfriend ordered the supreme molcajetes which was magnificent! Extremely hot, so you'll have to give it another 10-15 min to cool down before eating it. First time eating here , pleasantly surprised as soon as I walked in I was seated right away . They have several big screen TV's in the dining room that were playing music videos of Selena I loved that and also there were two men performing mariachi music . Overall it's a really nice atmosphere with a big dining area. I came here specifically to try out the Molcajetes Supreme , thank goodness the waiter told me it's a huge amount so we decided to split it. It comes out of the kitchen super sizzling hot definitely 10 stars for presentation. There's shrimp , chicken, steak, nopales and cheese in this amazing salsa sauce. It also comes with a plate of rice and beans on the side . Between the two of us we couldn't finish it all and took the rest home , there's no way I was going to let that go to waste it was so delicious!! Definitely coming back here the customer service was awesome and our server was so patient explaining the menu and the most popular Molcajetes as they serve several different types. One of the better places in Bakersfield for Mexican restaurant food. Pros: Good food, friendly staff, and reasonable pricing. They have a nice lunch menu and it's a great place for dinner. Cons: Vegetable burrito was a little lazy. A pretty plate with yummy rice and beans. It's just that the stuffing was steamed broccoli and carrots. It wasn't bad... just was an odd choice. Came in on Father's Day, expectations were low since I know how busy everything is on Father's Day weekend. Wait time wasn't too bad, about 55 minutes for a party of 6. The service was absolutely terrible. Waited 90 minutes to get our appetizers that came AFTER our entrees. I wish the service was the worst thing about this place. In BAKERSFIELD where the outside temperature was 93 degrees, the restaurants AC was broken AND they weren't disclosing this until after we were seated. It was hotter inside than it was outside. There were flies everywhere. This is by far the worst dining experience, if I could rate them 0 stars, I would. Save your money, go elsewhere. The food itself was below average. Good food... love the Camerones Molcajetes because it has a good amount of beef and shrimp. The quantity is great for sharing, just get an extra bean and rice plate for about $5. I tried the fajita plate once and it was just okay. The molcajete is the way to go! Definitely had leftovers when we ordered 2 items for 2 people. It comes with tortillas (4) with a choice of corn or flour. It comes with chips and salsa so use that salsa to make yourself a taco/burrito with the meat in the molcajete and the rice, beans, and veggies from the plate. Service is more or less okay. I got a strawberry margarita once and my friend got a long island iced tea and they were super diluted. Not a lot of alcohol with a lot of other juices and flavorings. It was very fruity and sweet. I kind of like tasting the alcohol when I order alcoholic beverages. lol. My friend was disappointed as well and we both felt that it was not worth $8.99 each for juice with a hint of alcohol. I am so glad that this place has stayed consistently amazing since 2015!!! This a must go to place for 21+ birthday dinners!!! The atmosphere is perfect, and all the servers are so friendly and fun! There seems to always be a live mariachi band that serenades the birthday celebrant. This is at an additional cost, but the option being available is great! The music is loud, the food is good, and the drinks are strong and delicious! I love that the servers like to give out free fireball shots for the celebrating party, and they even play the Fireball song by Pitbull while doing it. My best friend got to wear an adorable plastic princess crown that flashed back and forth. Honestly, I can tell that she was having a fun birthday, and it was probably more memorable than her 21st birthday! On another note, my fiancé celebrated his 21st birthday here last July in 2016. He had such a blast, and we were so happy with the waiter that helped us. My fiancé's younger brother wanted to order a mixed drink, but he didn't understand the concept of age yet. The waiter was so kind to play along, and so he had a virgin version of the Scobby Snacks drink made and checked his school ID to make sure he was "old enough." It was so cute and funny. My girlfriend and I came here for her birthday (April 2018), and this is our story. OH MY GOD IT'S LOUD IN HERE! We're seated immediately. Our drink orders are taken immediately. I can barely hear my girlfriend talk, so we kinda just smile at each other and take in the experience. Tables of people erupt in laughter. Chips & salsa show up. She says something about the salsa being good, but I can't really hear her. It's too loud to talk to each other. Big frosty beers arrive quickly. We order Molcajetes, and I wish I would stop getting fatter so these jeans would fit. Some girl is celebrating her 21st birthday party with a bunch of people, and she's already annihilated. The waiters start walking around pouring shots of Patron for everyone to celebrate. God I love Patron. It helps me forget I'm an alcoholic. My girlfriend and I both take a shot. So good. The waiter sets our Molcajetes in front of us. The burning hot stone bowl with its assortment of ingredients and boiling sauce is mesmerizing. I imagine shoving my hand in. No one would hear my screams of pain. Another round of shots come by. A man hands me a glass and starts screaming something in Spanish. I take the shot and hold the glass up above me. I'm already drunk. I have no chance of understanding him. The Molcajetes are so good! Very complex dish with a lot going on. Everything about it is incredible. Even with the cacophony of the room, the Molcajete has my attention. I seriously consider unbuttoning these jeans. We will be back for my birthday. read more

We first decided to check this place out the Saturday afternoon before Mother's Day. Well, that was a bad idea! The parking lot was full - of cars and people. We didn't bother with it that day, but knew that by the looks of the crowd, it was a must try in the area. We finally went back on a Thursday afternoon. We were immediately seated at 6pm, but the dining room filled up quickly. We ordered and shared a Molcajete Supreme which came with a side of beans, rice, and tortillas. It was the perfect size meal for two, and with some left over! The Supreme came in a smoking molcajete, a stone bowl, with mixed shrimps, chicken, steak, and chorizo. Napales (cactus) and other ingredients made the mix extra tasty. This was my first molcajete and I was sold! We will be back, for sure, during the rest of our stay in Bakersfield. read more

Mom and I were looking for a place to have lunch close to Kaiser and found Los Molcajetes based on the review of one of my trusted Yelp friends, Art M., and he didn't let us down. I don't usually drive down Brundage, so I'd probably never have found this place on my own and that would have been a shame. We were the only white customers in the entire restaurant. I don't bring this up to be racist; when eating at ethnic restaurants, I like to see that particular ethnicity well represented in the customers. Would you want to go to a Chinese restaurant to which no Chinese customers ever went? You see my point. The restaurant is decorated in dark wood and dark colors. When we first walked in the door it felt a little like being in a nice cool cave, but when they walked us around the corner to our table in the main dining room the huge windows let in so much light that it counteracted the cavelike vibe. We started with a strawberry milkshake which was on the dessert menu and was beautiful and generously portioned. The first couple of sips lacked a little flavor, but then we discovered a lot of the deep red syrupy sauce was on the bottom and stirred it up. Mom said "you better get in there quick. It's not going to last long." The guacamole and chips came out right away, too. The guacamole had large chunks of avocado throughout and there was plenty of it. Our waiter kept an eye on our table and made sure that the chips and salsa were kept refilled without our ever having to ask. We ordered the Molcajete a la Mexicana which included chicken, Angus beef, and grilled chorizo in a red sauce and served in a traditional stone vessel that was heated to 320 degrees Fahrenheit. Seriously, this dish continue to bubble and boil throughout the entire meal. Talk about a dish that stays hot! I had never even heard of a molcajete before, but when the restaurant is named after a dish, you really must try it, no? This dish was amazing and was enough to feed the two of us, so I'm glad we decided to split it! If we'd ordered two we'd never even have gotten to the second one. We also ordered the Jalisco bruschette, which included a variety of meats, and veggies, including bacon wrapped shrimp that arrived on a skewer over a foot long. Unfortunately, ours was so overcooked that the meats were inedible. We told our waiter, who took it back to the kitchen and took it off the bill. Great place with good food and drinks. First, the menu is large with so many options of your typical TexMex restaurants, from enchiladas to burritos and tacos to nachos. The plates are huge, serving portion is very large. They also have the bowl, which is basically this large cauldron size bowl full to the brim of whatever protein you choose. The restaurant does flashy well with options like these in the menu, and the flavor doesn't suffer. I had ordered the Suiza de Pollo; not a big fan of their salsa rojo for the enchilada, but the burrito itself was nicely flavored and the refried beans were delicious. Second, the drinks. This place knows their drinks well, and serve it in a flashy style. Their servers know their drink menu, knows what liquor they carry, are aware of popular mixed drinks, from irish trashcans to L.A. water, and they do not hold back on their pours. I would recommend the Andrew's Special: it's a tricolored slush drink that's very tropical; think pina colada but enhanced. Service was great and the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful and also fun. They do adhere to Covid regulations, and somewhat enforce it on their patrons.
