This is located at the corner of a shopping center. Walk up to counter, order, then pick a seat. All open tables were dirty, I arrived around lunch time. Staff were helpful with ordering. I ordered their signature trashcan taco and it was good. I would like to try other tacos in the future. Self service soda fountain which was out of ice and reported to an employee by another customer. That customer seemed frustrated as the ice was never filled so they opted for no ice. I later noticed canned big reds and breakfast drinks located in a fridge to the right of the counter. A self serve salsa bar is available. Careful, I opted for two "mild" sauces and one had no spice while the other was one of the spiciest I've ever had. Choose wisely. This is based solely on their menudo. (12/8) My mother, who is visiting, and I were craving something comforting and hearty on our cold and rainy Saturday morning, so we opted to keep it simple and have an order picked up for us nearby. I called them twice to place the order, but no one answered, so my partner just headed that way with our order for a large menudo with all the trimmings and a taco. My partner said it was very busy, but they still took the time to separate the menudo for us into two. Plenty of trimmings were also provided but only 2 corn tortillas. Upsetting, especially since they were the highlight bec they were fresh and homemade. The menudo had ample meat and hominy. However, its spices were overpowering with the exception of salt. Some people may like theirs like this, but my mother and I prefer more of a balance. It was also extremely expensive. Edit: (12/9) After reheating my partner's partially eaten Trashcan Taco with their red salsa, Los Tacos Gueros deserved a revision and extra star. It was packed with plenty of tasty ingredients like beans, bacon, and brisket. It was delish and filling. I love to try various taquerias around town and saw the reviews for Los Guerkos and decided to give it a try. It's a very clean and brightly decorated little place. Ordering was easy (prices are a little high). They have a fresh salsa bar that has quite a few varieties and pico de gallo as well. I sampled 4 of them and all were very fresh and delicious. I ordered my two most favorite tacos that I always get at other places. A Machacado and a chicken fajita taco. The Machacado was spot on. Very flavorful and buttery and awesome. The chicken fajita was just basically grilled chicken chunks with little to no flavor. Good thing their delicious salsas helped make the chicken much better. Tortillas were just right.. soft and just the right amount of chew. Overall a good meal but the "fajita" surprised me by not having the normal seasonings or grilled onion and peppers. I wanted to say 3.5 stars but giving them 4 for cleanliness, freshness (the salsas) and an amazing Machacado. I will return. read more

After ordering 6 tacos, we went to the salsa bar and got little cups of salsas, onions and jalapeños. The inside is clean and has a good amount of seating. We ordered the following: - Guero Breakfast Taco (I didn't try this one although it looked phenomenal) - Bacon, Egg & Cheese: A traditional/ basic breakfast taco that was just ok - Potato, Egg & Chroizo: Delicious and better than I've had at other places - a must order When we got home, we quickly realized we were missing a few of the tacos and had to call them to let them know. They apologized for the mistake and said if we came back they would have the missing tacos ready (not the end of the world... it's something that happens). We've been getting breakfast tacos from Güero's since it first opened years ago, and we've been going back ever since. I've lived in San Antonio all my life (Yelp won't correct my location) and in various parts of the city. The breakfast tacos are some of the very best I've eaten. In the area for work, and hungry for breakfast tacos, I looked to Google for answers. I also was in a mood to try something new, and not a chain restaurant. Google pointed me toward Los Tacos Gueros, and Yelp rated them highly. I pointed my car in that direction and headed that way. I arrived in the parking lot, parked, and went inside. Upon walking in, two ladies engaged in conversation made eye contact with me, then continued with their conversation. A well kept restaurant with many patrons seated and eating. So far, I had high hopes. As I approached the counter, the two ladies engaged in conversation acted as if I was not there. It was as if I was a ghost. There was a male employee (maybe a manager?) standing to them, so I glared at him to see if he might be able to take my order. The male employee prompted the two ladies break up the conversation and recognize there were customers at the counter. Now, noticing I existed, a nice young lady took my order. I ordered two bacon and egg tacos, no cheese, and requested crispy bacon. Also, a soda to wash it down with. I paid my $8.44, which included a tip, and the two ladies immediately reengaged in conversation. I usually never tip to go orders where a cashier merely flips an iPad screen around, and does nothing else. In a generous mood, I decided to go against that and tip. I instantly regretted that decision. I attributed this behavior to the new generation of teens and their poor work ethic. I also thought the price for two tacos was steep. My tacos came up to the window quickly, so I grabbed them and was on my way. I unwrapped the first taco to see what I was working with. The tortilla looked fresh and homemade. So far, so good. Digging deeper, I started to get more and more disappointed. The eggs were not cooked completely, and the bacon was not crispy. In fact, the bacon looked pretty pathetic, and I knew this would be a disappointment. The first few bites were like chewing on a tire. The last bite had hints of chorizo in the eggs. Not a fan of chorizo, I wrapped it back in foil, and straight to the trash can. On to taco number two. This taco had the eggs cooked fully and looked better. However, the bacon looked pretty pathetic and disgusting. After about three bites of this chewy taco, it was promptly wrapped and on its way to the trash. Needless to say, I was disappointed with my choice. If you are in the area, and looking for good tacos, keep driving by this place. I do not recommend this place at all. Where do I even start? This place is absolutely amazing. We've been loyal customers since moving to this part of town in 2018, and it has never disappointed. My go-to dish is the machacado plate, and let me tell you, it's the best I've had anywhere. The only place I've ever had better machacado was in Montemorelos, Mexico, which I mentioned to the owner once. To my surprise, he told me that's exactly where they source theirs from! It is an ideal spot for a meal on the go or casual sit down with good company. Nestled in the corner of a strip mall location (#1), there is a good mix of outdoor and indoor seating. Despite not being overly spacious, they've got a decent mix of standalone tables and booths. There is a fun salsa bar, self-serve drinks, as well as an area for memorabilia (think cups / mugs) For folks who were just a handful of years ago, they've done an outstanding job renovating the place to look brighter and way more inviting. They usually have music playing in the background and a pretty bustling staff running in and out of the kitchen. The format is simple: pay first and then have the food delivered to your table. I would recommend calling in ahead of time for takeout, but the food comes out fairly quick. I have enjoyed what I've sampled here for the most part. The barbacoa breakfast plate ($11) is an easy choice, namely for the very tender bits of barbacoa meat, which comes with a couple of eggs and some refried beans and potato. I do wish the portion size was more substantial than 3oz, which goes pretty quick. The huevos a la mexicana ($8) feels pretty hearty considering all the stuff in it (onions, tomatoes, peppers, etc.) but definitely needs a healthy dose of salsa. Though I can appreciate their migas ($3.30), machacado ($3.70) tacos, the trash can (eggs, potatoes, beans, carne guisada, cheddar cheese) is kind of my guilty pleasure. I can understand why it's a *guero* kind of place. I also love that they occasionally serve coffee and churros outside, at least from what I've seen on the weekends. The horchata and jamaica agua frescas aren't fantastic, as I've definitely had better. The staff is friendly, quick, and impressively bilingual. Don't get me wrong, everything here is excellent, and everyone loves going after the ever popular Trash Can taco, but La Costra is truly where it's at. The husband could live on breakfast tacos. Seriously. Me? Not so much. I like them, but not typically enough to want them ALL the time. La Costra changed this for me and I only wish I had tried it sooner... like YEARS sooner! Now I crave it almost every weekend. Maybe I'm just trying to make up for the decade-plus of lost time! I ordered 3 tacos, a barbacoa (of corse) the trash can taco, and then an egg and cheese taco for my girlfriend. The trash can and egg burrito were stuffed full and barely closed, so definitely a good value for the price. My girlfriend doesn't eat a lot of food when she does eat, but she was only able to finish about half of her taco. The tacos had great flavor, however the barbacoa was just so so, I've had better, but it was still good. The process of taking my order and getting me my food was fast. I did enjoy my meal, but was sad that the potatoes I ordered on the side were completely unseasoned. This is San Antonio, you can't be serving completely unseasoned (read: flavorless) potatoes as a side! The salsa bar was nice as well, but the layout of the restaurant makes it very awkward to get drinks and salsa, as you are having to literally get in front of people waiting in line to order. I had been back here a couple of times since the hair & foil incident... and it was okay. However, one day, after having some bloodwork done down the road, i stopped here to grab 2 tacos to-go. I remember just sort of thinking about all the things needing to be done, but i was feeling so tired...all of a sudden my thoughts were interrupted by some screaming man, yelling at the top of his lungs in my face " WAKE UP!!! NUMBER 24 - PAY ATTENTION!!!" I snapped out of my daze & customers were staring at me & a group of old men were looking & giggling like school children. I was slightly embarrassed but more annoyed with this rude behavior - especially from a person who appeared to be a manager no less. I would've stood up for myself any other day, but i was feeling so run down, i didn't have the energy to get a refund & go somewhere else. What is also confusing is that the order taker gave me a plastic number to put on the table... the man handing out the orders merely had to LOOK at the numbers on the table. The place is very small. There are not many tables. It is not hard to look for the numbers. And despite all that, i really don't understand how this manager had the nerve to yell at me like that. Apparently he doesn't care for my business, so i have never gone back & the reason why I'm writing this review is because i have family moving to the area & over the holidays they were asking about this Tacos Gueros/Guerkos, so i told the story of how i was yelled at & belittled.
