I can shamelessly say I have eaten here 3 times in the past month...and I live 2 hours away...lol. I love the chips and salsa. Queso is good too. Margaritas are very good. The restaurant itself is very nice and they have a huge parking lot. Too loud for groups. I couldn't hear the the person next to me. They are not prepared for large 20+ groups. If it's going to take 45 mins to get your bill and pay then it's time to update your POS. Stopped by here after landing at the Fort Worth airport. Doesn't look like much on the outside, looks like an old brick warehouse. Inside is classic Texan/Americana rustic decor. The food was much better than typical Mexican/Southwest food. I had the beef brisket tacos, and they probably the best I've ever had. By far the best restaurant you can go to when in town in the state of Texas. This past weekend 9/2/17 the restaurant allowed live mariachi to celebrate our newly weds and a few family members birthdays. Family members from three different states met and enjoyed great drinks and delicious food. Our Family member Ladies and in particular my wife loved their Sangria. Our waitress (Jessica) did an extraordinary job as she served our four tables without any help and in particular no error of drinks and/or our selection of food orders. We were at the stockyards for a visit from my brother sister in law and niece who traveled far all the way from New Jersey. Our plan was to visit Joe T Garcias! Not because it's the best but because everyone should go at least once. Sadly, Joe t's patio was not open and the wait was a half hour. We decided to go over to Los Vaqueros because of its proximity. We were in a bit of a rush. Enter los Vaqueros. Good from far but far from good! They didn't even have any hot sauce! The chips were dry and overcooked! The salsa was blah! The meals were less than appetizing! The jalapeno poppers were just blah. The guacamole was anything I could make better at home. The brisket tacos were chewy and gross! The chicken fajitas were definitely pre frozen and thawed in a microwave! You didn't think I was done did you? The margaritas! We came this far from Margarita! And they were definitely a mix. They didn't even try to make a real Margarita. They just got the mix and added a touch of tequila. epic fail. Joe T's may not be the best place on earth but it's no wonder people flock there! I don't normally kiss and tell, but the sour cream chicken enchiladas are the best I've ever had. Whatever voodoo magic they perform to get the sauce so thick is probably fattening as hell, but the sauce is effing delicious it would be worth being called a fat kid. Charro beans, beef enchiladas are also very good. Salsa is my favorite salsa. I apologize in advance to my next dinner partner, because I just may drink the salsa straight from the mason jar. I'll bring a celery stalk and we'll just tell people it's a really thick and chunky bloody mary. Love this food! read more

Los Vaqueros feels like a old rundown warehouse that happened to be turned into a banquet-style Mexican restaurant. In fact, I am almost certain that is the actually history that they are so proud of. Additionally, they seem to have an endless amount of rooms and one that can accommodate just the largest of weddings. The grub itself is a little more Tex-Mexy than I would have liked, but it did the job, and I had no complaints overall. Service is a little on the slow side, but everything came out quickly and efficiently. I will say that they need to update their online menu... they are still advertising Saturday brunch at 10:30AM. Needless to say, we showed up 15 minutes too early--quarter til the actual 11AM opening call. The salsa, held in glass jars, possessed some hearty tomato chunks and a slight kick, but in its entirety, it was a little watered down. Offerings are typical, but they do have a few unique choices, so we opted to give their "almost famous" chicken salad a shot. Stuffed inside an avocado, it boasted large chicken chunks and a good crunch from the roughly chopped celery. Additionally, they prepare things light here--not too much in the way of mayonnaise here. The spinach mushroom enchiladas were adorned with some sour cream sauce and a sprinkling of cheese. The interior of sauteed fungus and greens seemed a little soggy, and I would have preferred a crunchy counterbalance at some place in the dish. The rice was a little stale, and the refrieds were nothing to write home about. The chicken tortilla soup was a little steep in cost, but I have seen this to be true across many a Tex-Mexican eatery. There was not much in the way of flavor, as it was very lacking in salt. Give Los Vaqueros a shot if you find your way in Cowtown, but make your way up from the South. There are about 20 little mom and pop's, including some powerhouses such as Joe T's. Well, I guess that is the only true powerhouse, but Esperanza's would equally serve you well. Dine here when it is due for a check-in for a full-blown Tex-Mex experience. read more

This is a great Mexican restaurant near the Stockyards in Fort Worth with a large, free, parking lot. It has a large bar area and a very large seating area. It has a casual, relaxed, Texas-style, friendly vibe that I very much enjoyed. Our server was attentive and excellent. The Mexican and Tex-Mex food was very good to excellent. My friend, who loves chile releno raved about his entree and I very much enjoyed my chile releno, cheese enchilada, taco combination plate. It was a great experience and we'll go back. read more

Several years ago I came here with a group and I remembered it as being great. Today was far from great. I was very disappointed and basically threw away a chunk of cash. We walked in and no one was there, so I poked around to see if someone would come seat us. I know we were seen, but nothing. Finally someone came from behind us. No apology for the wait, but whatever. Chips tasted stale. They were heavy and we had to salt them to make them edible. We wouldn't have eaten them if we hadn't paid over 4 bucks on queso. Speaking of the queso, it was terribly bland. We ordered off the lunch menu and I read the description of what we were getting, and the slop we ended up with sure didn't look like what I expected. Gave it an honest try, but it was bad. The chili sauce was weak and watery and killed the entire meal. What a waste. If the chili and meat had been better this would probably be a good lunch. Mild-Mex! That is the term I use to describe Mexican food that isn't spicy. The term bland also works. My wife and I had the enchilada plate. She had cheese and I had beef. To start off with, they made no effort to season the beef ... hamburger. No onions, garlic or chili. Nothing. What were they thinking? Well the tourist trap was loaded. Business was good on Saturday. My wife, a Minnesota German thought the cheese enchiladas were also a waste. C'mon. The rice and beans were dull too. It is saying something when Taco Bell serves up spicier entrées. Bad news. BFF and I on another road trip out of our familiar 'hood and returned to LV after an absence of a few years. It was hopping on a weekend afternoon. We sat at the bar (as usual) and were greeted by our friendly bartender Bob. Ordered my favorite libation @ a tex-mex spot, a TS Margarita, BFF ordering his usual Miller Lite draft. Drinks promptly served. This TS marg is one of the best I've enjoyed anywhere, and I've enjoyed them many times, many places. The goblet sized drink was so smooth; the perfect pairing of Patron and LOTS of Grand Marnier, resulting in that beautiful golden color. Absolutely YUMALICIOUS and decently priced @ $10.95 for a more than generous serving. This alone rates a 5 star review, but, let's go on to the food. The food was decent, not bad at all, just pretty ordinary tex-mex; but not exactly what I had requested. "One soft cheese taco with the Queso type sauce and one tamale." And a small side of guacamole. Guacamole - okay, needed lemon and salt. Tamale - okay, nothing special Soft cheese taco - no Queso, it came out with shredded cheddar, only partially melted.. A big fail. Chips and Salsa - Not bad, not quite as wafer thin & oily as I prefer, but acceptable. Salsa was pretty tasty, lots of chunky tomatoes and a nice heat level. Service - 5 stars for Bob; as busy as he was he made time to chat with us; we were never left unattended and drinks were refilled quickly. And, I shan't fail to mention again, that awesome TS Marg. It's only the food that brings this to an A-OK rating. (BFF liked his Chicken Quesadillas). We enjoy the atmosphere of this spot, so I'm sure we'll return again. Interesting how my opinion has changed so much. I'm giving 4 this time so that my two reviews balance to an even 3-star rating. After spending all day in the heat for my company's big grand opening, me and two co-workers were desperate for food and alcohol. We went back to Los Vaqueros because it's so close to work, and because we all wanted icy cold tequila. I must say that the Diablo Shrimp Enchiladas are very good. They're definitely not something I'd order to-go though, because they just seem like something that needs to be eaten freshly made and piping hot. They were very good, and the drink selection was okay. All in all, I got some tasty food and a nice buzz - the two things I was aiming for. Our waitress, however, had absolutely no personality. None whatsoever. *shrug* We just ordered more beers and messed with her. I would go back to eat there, but after the experience I wrote about in my first review, I won't be placing take-out orders there again. read more

My family in Ft Worth LOVES this restaurant. We had Los Vaqueros cater a family reunion in 2014, and I was heavily impressed. 4 people in our family are vegan and they provided amazing and tasty options. Fast forward to 2015: My wife and I fly to DFW for this year's fam reunion and it's decided and planned (months ahead) that we would dine *at* LV. We were excited as the Mexican food in ATL is dismal compared to TX. My Aunt had made plans with the restaurant to have menus printed with vegan options for us diners (since the normal menu is absolutely un-vegan-friendly). Not even the beans are vegetarian at this place (according to our waitress/manager). We get there and are seated (as 18) at an awkward, skinny/long table and elbow to elbow. Our older waitress didn't know what "vegan" meant. This is going to be fun... The manager on-duty comes over and tells me he basically "forgot" to create the vegan menu. I let him know that I wish I could give my clients excuses. Anyhow, he tells us the three things we can order, and we struggle to hear it across the table with all the ambient noise. We order, the wrong crap comes out with cheese all over it because "no dairy" isn't a good enough hint to our waitress. We just call it a loss and nod/smile to my Aunt that worked hard to plan this. Hell, we'll be in Austin in April. I'll give the food received at the restaurant a 4/10. Service 2/10. Really, really wanted to enjoy this place with my family. Disappointing. read more

What a good Mexican food place. I arrived in town for the first time in five years and had to flip a coin to decide where to eat. Los Vaqueros was the winner and so was I. I got the cara asada with veggies instead of rice and it was perfect. The only improvement would be a little more spice on the steak, but I can always add that myself. read more

Plenty of parking in the Stockyards, attentive service, fast delivery of the drink and food order. The meal was good, but not great. The Vaqueros Plate was their signature dish, enchilada, tamale, chili con queso, a beef taco with rice and beans. Solid presentation -- but nothing stuck out as different than any of the others. The margarita was not good-- think it was the mix, as there was minimal lime taste and funny aftertaste. Oh well. Overall good value for the money and a nice stop in the stockyards. read more

The menu is far more expansive than the competition down the street. I even hear Los Vs is under consideration to become a Blue Zones restaurant! (Though, they aren't going away, I don't think the cheese enchiladas I love and dream about will be on that menu...) The staff is extremely kind and attentive. If you're lucky enough they'll sing to you. The atmosphere is perfectly Fort Worth, Texas. There's no question where you are. You know you're in a stellar place when you walk in. We come here every now and again when family is in town because it's close to my dad and they seat big tables. The ivy running up the exterior wall is gorgeous, the margaritas are decent and we love Mac; she has been waiting tables here for 28 years. Give this woman a medal! The food is not awesome; there is nothing special about anything I have ever ordered here. Not sure what has happened to this establishment, our recent experience was not good by any means. The waitress tried to charge us for two bowls of queso when the table in fact only had one. She also tried to charge us for two Patron Margarita's when in fact they were just house margaritas. The service was less than acceptable. Several times our drinks went empty as well as our chip basket. Anytime we asked the server for a refill or a question it seemed as if we were a burden to her. The Manager on-site Saturday, November 13, 2021 even argued with us as we tried to explain the mistakes made with our check. Then to top it all off the server took it upon herself to add additional tip to the bill. I have a photo of the signed receipt showing the correct tip amount, no my math was not incorrect when calculating the total. read more

LV is a long-time favorite of the family. Good for group dinner or lunch on the weekend or for thw ife and I hitting for drinks. Just me and my son tonight and unfortunately, I think my waiter was multi-sat. Really slow service so asked another waiter who helped me with my drink. The food is always good, but it was slow coming out, again I think, thanks to my waiter. Had to continuously flag down my waiter to get a refill on drink from the bar and my sons water. For this visit I am gonna have to rate lower until they can get the service act back together. read more

Ok update on my review we went to Los Vaqueros on Friday 3-23-19 with the understanding we had a room reserved. Upon arrival we were told not only did we not get the room but they did not even have our name down for a reservation! The manager on that night was not in the slightest concerned! So mid level management sucks! Now as far as wait staff go we had Kim who we have known for years took GREAT care of us and food was still great! So be very aware if you make reservations! read more

I have been to Mexican restaurants all over DFW and would recommend going to other ones and they did not even have that much of a crowd for lunch.
