This was incredibly thoughtful and a nice touch for our celebration dinner. Also, I love how this restaurant is decorated - the art work, the furniture, and plants - all come together to create a welcoming, cozy, warm atmosphere for any dining experience. I also love how the menu continuously rotates and highlights fresh produce from local suppliers. We both ordered a different dish and shared, plus we had some leftovers, so the portions are very generous. We also tried some of the oysters with vinaigrette they were fresh and delicious. We asked about the menu and what he recommends (still trying to be friendly and get him to warm up). He recommended the special menu, so we ordered the Blackened Salmon sandwich. It was okay/average. Fries were cold. We ordered the Table Talk beer and I enjoyed it. I'd say that the beer was the best part of the whole experience. Overall I'm glad we tried it but we wouldn't go back. If the bartender had been more welcoming and interested in sharing a bit more about the concept, we would give it a second try when we head out there again. If you're going to charge the prices they're charging, the flavor should be amazing in every single bite. We sampled four different dishes, and none blew me away. Some, were even borderline "bad." Here's a rundown: mushroom pizza - the description makes it seem like it will be cheesy and full of flavor, but it was very one note duck confit pizza - had three pieces of duck on it and was otherwise covered in hot peppers lemon blueberry pancake - more of a skillet cake - sauce was the best part, otherwise dry on the bottom Raclette burger - $30 which is almost comparable in price to a burger I had at The Four Seasons in Maui. That burger, was worth every penny. This one had absolutely no flavor. The meat tasted like mush - definitely lacked seasoning, and there was not a speck of cheese to be found. If you're going to call a burger a raclette, it should be oozing with cheese. grilled Romaine salad - leaves were bitter and the dressing again, looked delicious, but had no flavor. The flavors did not compliment each other at all - with the pickled grapes, taking away from the dish and contrasting very starkly against the rotten tasting lettuce Brown sugar oat milk latte - really the only thing that delivered both on looks and on flavor. Sadly, not high on my list of places to return. It kind of made me think of Vegas: lots of pomp and glam which momentarily distracts you into thinking you're having the best time of your life. This landmark business was able to withstand the Great Depression, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, Watergate, and the Millennium, but couldn't rebound back from COVID-19 and it's devastating effects on the local economy. It's closing was like loosing a member of your family. Now with all the dust settling, a Phoenix is now rising from the ashes. The restaurant has been rebooted, and is now "Haab's Barrel House" with a complete rebranding. Not only are they are offering some really great brisket, burgers, fried chicken, pizza, and sandwiches, but they plan on adding more entrées, including catfish and other seafood items in the near future. Currently, they do have limited vegan and vegetarian options available. I was told they will be expanding that menu section in the future. That being said, they do offer a great Vegetarian Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. One new innovation that Haab's Barrel House is offering is karaoke every night. She had a bacon cheeseburger also with fries. We scanned over the menu after saying hello, ordered our food, and had our entire order within 10 minutes. Speedys isn't just a name, our food came out freshly cooked, quickly. My coney dog had to be eaten with a fork and knife because it was COVERED in chili. They did not go light on any condiment, and for the price there are zero complaints on that. My chili cheese burger was also very tasty. She said her burger tasted like somethinf we wouldve made in the backyard, which is a compliment, as well. Overall it was solid food, that came out very quickly, tasted fresh, and for not a crazy price.
