We had a great visit on a recent Saturday evening. The restaurant is large, open and bright with a…read morebig bar area and plenty of space--great for large parties. It gets very busy in the evenings, so plan accordingly. The menu has an extensive selection of Mexican classics including a large seafood section. We split the parrillada mixta (listed for one but easily feeds two), and it was excellent. The steak, chicken, shrimp, and sausage were all cooked well and flavorful. The rice and beans were solid sides. The salsa was great, and our server kindly brought out a spicier version for us, which was very tasty. Service overall was terrific! Only downside: the chips were a bit mediocre. We will certainly return!

Stopped by for a Margarita before joining a group at a nearby Asian buffet since I had an hour to…read morespare. Margaritas were good and offered as a happy hour special. The food on the menu looks really good, so I'll come back for that. One thing I found impressive was the salsa for the chips. It's more of a southeastern style that is pure red chili (Arul, I was told, very flavorful!!) without being loaded with tomatoes and chopped up cilantro and onions as so many TexMex places feature. I've been looking for a place that does "real" salsa without being pico de gallo (tomato, onion, cilantro, and water). The salsa here is all red chili sauce much like is used with Huevos Rancheros in New Mexico. The food on the menu looks more continental Mexican than TexMex, so if you like that (unusal for Dallas) then check this place out. Interior is upscale but still relatively casual with a large seating capacity so they should be able to handle a veritable stampede. Great date spot as the service is good and the food looks really good! I'm sorry to be meeting friends at a Chinese dive buffet tonight versus eating here, but I'm coming back soon to try their food. It is NOT TexMex. If that is what you're looking for there is an El Fenix within a mile of here that can accommodate you. I'll give an update in a few weeks on the entree options because I will get my diner group to come here soon.

I had been wanting to try this place for a long time, so I finally decided to celebrate my birthday…read morehere and I'm so glad I did! At first, I was a little hesitant because the menu is fairly small, but after my meal, I can see why. Every dish we ordered was absolutely a 10/10. I had the chicken with greens and shrimp fried rice, along with the fried green tomatoes and cornbread. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I honestly don't have a single negative thing to say about either the food or the service. This was an amazing dining experience, and I will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

I had high hopes for this location because I absolutely love Radici, and everyone has been…read morerecommending Roots to me. Unfortunately, it just didn't live up to the expectations I had. I do want to start with the positives. Our waiter was fantastic. He was very attentive, explained the menu thoroughly, and provided excellent service. The food also came out incredibly fast and piping hot, which is becoming rare these days. We started with the cornbread, and it was easily a 10/10. It was worth every bit of the $12. We ordered the fried chicken, greens, shrimp fried rice, biscuits, and hot water cornbread. The fried chicken was crispy and tender, but it lacked seasoning. I'd give it a 7/10. They served it with a house hot sauce, but surprisingly it had no heat and almost no flavor. I even asked the person I was dining with if they tasted anything because it was like pouring sauce on the chicken without changing the flavor at all. The greens were just okay on their own, but once we added the vinegar they became amazing. That made me wonder why the vinegar isn't incorporated into the greens from the start. The hot water cornbread had virtually no flavor. The shrimp fried rice was cooked really well, but it had an unexpected Caribbean-style seasoning that threw me off. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting, and it made it hard to fully enjoy. The biscuits were probably the biggest disappointment. They were dry and hard. One thing I also noticed is that, for a family style restaurant where you're encouraged to order several dishes to share, the tables feel too small. Once all the food arrived, there wasn't much room left, and even packing up our leftovers was awkward because of the lack of space. One standout that deserves recognition was the iced tea. It had what tasted like a subtle hint of mint and was incredibly refreshing. Easy 10/10. From the cuts of chicken we received, it appears they break down and fry whole chickens, which is perfectly fine. However, at $56 for a fried chicken that lacked seasoning, I found the price hard to justify. Maybe the cooking method or oil contributes to the cost, but I expected much more flavor for that price. Overall, I'd rate my experience a 7.5/10. Would I come back? Yes. I'd be willing to give Roots another chance and try something different from the menu. But when I hear Southern food, I expect bold seasoning and comforting flavors, and that's the one area where this meal really fell short.

As you walk up, you're greeted by great R&B music playing outside, and I assumed the volume inside would match. I was pleasantly surprised--it was perfect. To me, the ideal dining vibe is good music paired with the ability to hold a normal conversation, and they nailed it. The space includes an open seating area along with a roped‑off section for the in‑person kitchen experience. Service: From the moment I walked in, the host made me feel welcome. My server was fairly new, but she was excellent--helpful, attentive, and honest. If she didn't know an answer, she went to find out instead of guessing. She checked in often, made sure we had everything we needed, and genuinely cared about how our meal was going. Outstanding service all around. Food: The food was another highlight. The pork steak was seasoned beautifully--full of flavor and cooked just right. The meatballs, however, were just okay for me. The sauce was delicious, but the meatballs themselves could've used a bit more seasoning. I do wish they offered complimentary bread or included it with dishes. They do have a Rosemary & Garlic Confit Focaccia available for an additional charge, and it's very good, but it would be nice to have a starter option included. Overall: I absolutely recommend giving this place a try. Great food, great music, talented chefs, and genuinely wonderful service. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

The steak was tender and juicy but it didn't have any flavor... kinda weird. The lamb chops were sort of dry. The Pappardelle was the best dish.
