Stopped in for a quick lunch, gotta be back within an hour. They are quick, and delicious. I had the beef and brocolli with wonton soup. Total maube 5minutes betwwen order and being served. The beef was plentiful, savory sauce (seriously savory, will come bk for just this). The brocolli is crunchy not mushy like so so soook many other typical chinese food places. The ambience is relaxing well spaced. They are safe, make you sanitize your hands upon entry, masks are required and worn, employees wear gloves. They use plastic cutlery packets. The only thing that bothered me was staring at my dirty plates while we waited for the entree and check, not a biggy but would help. Also the reaching across someones plates is a no-no in my opinion, just rude and interrupts another for your dishes. I will return. If you're looking for authentic Chinese food this isn't the place. Owners aren't Chinese so this is a battered, sweetened, heavily fried American Chinese food joint. My niece ordered the lemon chicken without the breading and it still came breaded. Egg rolls are not made in house and taste like they are from the grocery store frozen aisle. The lunch specials used to be $9 a year ago, now they are $12.50+. Our totals came to $15 per entree due to secret up charges. What's special about that? Bathrooms have dirty used soap bottles and there are no paper towels or hand dryer in either bathroom. Waiters speak Spanish and are difficult to communicate with. Lots of guessing back and forth until they understand what you want. Wall decor painting is torn and taped over like a kids project. They don't care about customers ambience at all and are just squeezing profit left and right. Front cashier was incredibly rude when we asked him to kindly confirm our check. ($60 for 4 lunch specials didn't seem right for this mostly takeout type of restaurant.) The receipt was badly scribbled on making it impossible to decipher why our total was so high. He didn't break down any charges and instead was unprofessional, unhelpful and mean in his reply. Oh don't forget unapologetic when I pointed out a few things they messed up with our order. On top of that, he informs us we will be charged a $3.99 fee for paying by card. What year are we in?? This place has lost all its charm with its BURNT OUT, DEPRESSED and RUDE younger staff and inflated prices for mediocre non authentic "Chinese" food. For a $15 entree price point you can be eating a lot better elsewhere... Have gone here for many years but sadly it's l not what it used to be and they don't value long time customers anyways. We've eaten here twice now. The first time we had a few dishes and had an overall 4-star experience. Good enough to come back for. Today however was a different experience. We had the shrimp delight, lemon chicken and ordered chicken chop suey but got chicken with snow peas. The dishes were okay, not bad but nothing to write home about. The shrimp delight lacked much for veggies but the shrimp was cooked okay. The lemon chicken seemed like it had been cooked earlier and was warm but not fresh. The lemon sauce lacked flavor. I ordered chicken chop suey but received chicken and snow peas. The few snow peas that were in the order were overcooked but the chicken was bland okay. This was takeout so I called, once back home, to let them know about the order mix up. The man taking calls told me he had repeated my order "twice" and thus the onus was on me for the mistake. He told me I could come back and pickup an order of chop suey at my expense, taking no responsibility for the mistake. My fiancée and I ordered together and she confirmed what I had said when ordering and what he had said back to me. Lastly, my fiancée wanted fried rice instead of steamed so I called back right after I had initially placed the order. Fried rice has an up-charge of $2.00 so I had to run my card again to pay for it. ( He told me he'd run the card "this time" but normally it's a $7 minimum; uhhh ok) And then it turns out the "fried" rice is just steamed rice with soy sauce already mixed in. There was the tiniest bit of egg but basically nothing special or significantly different from the steamed, especially not to warrant an extra $2 charge that he educated me about. Overall the food was okay but the service was poor. I don't like being blamed for the restaurant's mistake and then being told I could take the extra time, travel and money to make up for it. The soy sauced up-charged rice was like a slap in the face. I don't appreciate a business that won't own their mistakes and isn't willing to make it right or who won't take an extra step to support their customers and instead is patronizing. They had a decent lunch special which I was a fan of, but I think the biggest issue was the subconscious lack of attentiveness to our table. I don't want to assume anything, but I will say that I noticed every table of white customers were helped much quicker than us and a black coworker of mine. I've been coming here for about a year and each time it's been a hit. The food is consistently good but more importantly, very flavorful! This is the worst Chinese food I ever had in my life, and I have been all over the country . Lotus chicken delight was what we ordered. It was slimy from being cooked in low temperature horrible oil. We have been trying Chinese restaurants, or similar types around Austin and I am always leery about ordering shrimp because it's fishy tasting. Chicken is always chewy, rubbery. At Lotus Hunan it was soooo good! Fish and shrimp should NOT taste fishy, and THAT is why people hate fish. While eating I told my husband, "I have to tell them how much I loved my lunch! Not only is the food en pointe but the staff could not be more kind and thoughtful to their customers! The wonton soup is so flavorful and definitely looks homemade which I'm sure it is. Rangoons are cooked and stuffed perfectly. I've had chicken and vegetarian dishes here that are equally flavorful and not too heavy. Portion sizes are more than generous and the lunch deals come with soup and an egg roll which is golden fried to perfection as well! Can't say enough good things about this place. I eat at Lotus probably three times a month. The staff remembers us and that's always pleasant. We go there because the service is lightening quick, the lunch plate is generous with soup, egg roll, fried wonton, entree, and choice of white or fried rice. I usually have the beef delight. General Tso's chicken is good, but sometimes the pieces are small and taste like hard fried breading. Dinner time we frequently get the shrimp fried rice, which is not skimpy on the shrimp. If you're out to a quick lunch, you can go to Lotus and eat a good meal within 50 minutes from sitting down to paying the check. read more

Lotus Hunan Chinese Restaurant is in a strip center in Westlake that's near my office. A few of my co-workers recommended the place for lunch because of a nice mix of proximity, quality and service. Talk about being steered in the right direction (for a change) by my work peeps! I'm really picky when it comes to Chinese food and really am not a fan of most Chinese food places here in Austin. LHCR was an incredible treat and surprise! There are a few other better known spots here in the Westlake area like Chinatown and Suzi's, but thought the food here was more "authentic" in taste. I've been to LHCR 3 times for lunch and so far, this place does not disappoint. Starting at $7.25 for the lunch specials, you get a heapin' helpin' servin' of some delicious Chinese food. The Kung Pao Chicken and Curry Chicken have been stellar and the portions will leave you walking out thinking you know exactly what a woman feels like when she's 9 months pregnant!
