I went to this restaurant years ago before they moved to this location. I wasn't impressed back then, but decided to give it another try. We ordered boneless pork and steamed shrimp dumplings as appetizers, and mu-shu pork for the entrée. The pork had decent sauce but didn't taste very fresh. The dumplings arrived lukewarm; we sent them back and they returned hot but completely bland. The mu-shu pork was the biggest disappointment. It came with cold "pancakes" that crumbled when we tried to wrap them, and the pork itself was tasteless. I took a few bites and stopped. My wife asked me not to say anything to the young waiter since it wasn't his fault. He never asked how the food was anyway--just dropped the check and asked if we wanted a to-go bag (most of the meal was left). We eat out often (look how many reviews I've left), and this happened to be a birthday dinner. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst meals we've had in quite a while. We ordered on Ubereats and received white rice which was very dry. I am not sure which dish this came with though. Chef's Special Beef ($21) with Fried Rice ($1): This was my husband's favorite. The beef is fried and coated in a rich sauce. It was enjoyable for the first few bites, then became a bit heavy. The fried rice was disappointing, worse than Panda Express. There were barely any vegetables, and what was there tasted old. Oolong Tea Duck ($23) with Brown Rice ($1): The brown rice was nice and fluffy and tasted better than the fried or white rice. The duck is smoked with oolong tea and then fried. When we received it, it was not crispy, so we air-fried it ourselves, which made the meat drier. The oolong flavor was barely noticeable. I would not recommend ordering this for pick-up or delivery, only dine-in. The portion size of the duck was generous. The sweet plum sauce did not pair well with the duck; I preferred it with a darker hoisin-style sauce. Moo Shu ($15) with Pork ($3): This was my favorite dish of the night. We came to Chinatown for an early dinner before the rush, and it was such a nice experience. Plenty of parking, no wait, relaxed, and friendly service. Really nice modern decor! Several staff members greeted us right away, and our food came out within ten minutes of ordering. Super efficient! We ordered the Beef Lo Mein, Cantonese-style Honey Walnut Shrimp, and the Dragon Lion Fight. Every dish had great depth of flavor. They were rich, balanced, and full of that satisfying umami you hope for in good Chinese food. I also tried the Lychee Martini, which was excellent. It wasn't syrupy like some places make it, but perfectly refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness. It's definitely on the higher-end price range for Chinese food, but the quality, service, and flavor made it worth it. I'd definitely come back! read more

Contrary to several other recent reviews, we really enjoyed ourselves and the food reminded us of several old school Chinese restaurants in Washington, DC's Chinatown. A vast menu with many options. The walnut shrimp was the best I've ever had and the sushi rolls we ordered were tasty, fresh and held together using chopsticks (unlike some that fall apart as soon as you pick them up). Service was friendly, the place was well appointed, and the cost seemed about right for this day and age. Would definitely return. read more

Went to Chinatown Westlake on Sunday. I thought it was the BEST Chinese food restaurant I've been to in Austin. A meal for 4 adults and 2 kids. We ordered the Sweet and Sour chicken for the kids. It was a huge serving of delicious crispy chicken fried to perfection with the sauce on the side for kids palettes. The rest of the meal was Sesame chicken and General Tso's. It was delicious, large servings served family style with generous portions of steamed rice. The service was excellent with attention to our orders and keeping our glasses filled. The decor inside was very nice. They have a very impressive bar setup too. We will definitely be returning to enjoy another delicious meal. read more

One of my favorite spots for Chinese food! FOOD: I have ordered Uber Eats several times from this place and typically, I get their sesame chicken to play it safe. I am never disappointed by it, other than the fact that it could use more broccoli. I finally got to dine in on a Sunday early afternoon, during which we were the only customers for the first 20 minutes or so. Surprisingly, their Szechuan edamame was one of the best edamame that I have ever had. With its delicious sauce, smallest kick of spice. and slight crunch without being undercooked, this was a perfect appetizer. Checking into the location via Yelp gave me an offer for free soup, so I got a wonton soup. The soup was tasty and nicely seasoned with wontons that weren't too small or wrapper-heavy, scallions, and some bok choy. Per the waiter's recommendation, I ordered the three cup chicken which also had a delicious sauce and since it is made with dark meat, was flavorful and had a nice chew. The dish also has Thai basil and slices of ginger in it. Lastly, this might be unimportant to some people, but I always appreciate that their rice is never clumpy or mushy or hard. Their portions are also always huge - it always turns into leftovers for me. SERVICE: The waiter was very friendly and checked in on us regularly. Everything, including the food, was efficiently timed without feeling rushed. LOCATION: The restaurant has pretty exterior decor with a waterfall-like structure and some nice gardening out front. The place itself is huge with colorful lanterns and tall wine racks. I like that it is a happy medium between not too bougie, but not run-down. The best mooshu pork I've ever had!!!!!!! And their sesame chicken is a must order. I often order takeout and the delivery is super fast, but inside is also great and staff inside is super friendly. They are super nice about alterations to their dishes, which is great for my mother who can't eat certain things. She likes to order the chicken and broccoli but with white sauce! Nothing blew my mind per se, although I do like the bamboo decorations and fountain outside (looks cute). This place is fairly large inside with a circle bar the middle. It's inviting enough, and they play classic oldies hits which I think is nice but kind of ages the place a bit. I had the avocado mamba roll which is made with eel and it was quite good (but again, not mind blowing). My mom had the sesame chicken which was like your standard upscale fast food quality sesame chicken served nicely - so it was good, but nothing new. The hot and sour soup again was good, but standard. Overall this place is fine, the food was satisfying enough but there's nothing particularly "special" about it. Our server also was good about checking in with us but had an air of needing to be somewhere else the whole time and would hurry off. The food is very good here, at the Bee Cave location. But we won't be coming back because of your miserable waitress who gives me dirty looks every time we go there! We always ignored it, thinking she's miserable and unhappy. It's starting to get ridiculous, I'm not sure why she frowns and turns down her eyebrows at me every time I tell her what I would like to order. She makes me very uncomfortable and I will not put up with this disrespect from her! We are always very nice to the servers in any restaurant. My 17 year old nephew and I decided to grab some food so we headed to Chinatown. He knew exactly what he wanted; I could have ordered for him as he gets the same thing every time: Sesame Chicken. I decided to order sushi. I haven't had it in months. I ordered the Mexicano roll (see description in photos). Each entree was 16.00- kinda pricey ‍but we were in Westlake. I guess that makes a difference? I did check out the lunch menu and items seem to be more reasonable (around 9 bucks). I did take a gander at the drink menu to perhaps grab a glass of wine...again on the expensive side. The glasses were all about 9/10 bucks. I decided to stick with water and get a whole bottle after dinner at Trader Joe's . *Covid update: all employees wore masks. Each table had hand sanitizer on it. They seemed to be doing a fairly large amount of take out. The bar was "hopping" as far as covid standards go. It seemed full and people were enjoying dinner and a drink at the bar. The food is always perfect. Chinatown Fried rice is the best, fresh and the meats in it are perfect. Wonton soup is one of our must have with the fried egg rolls. This was really good. The restaurant has a nice decor and the entrance is grand. As others mentioned, we were quickly seated on a Thursday night, but waited about 10 -15 minutes before we could place our order. This might be a wild guess, but it seems that when I got my husband to close the menu, that's when the server came over. Otherwise every other aspect of meal timing was as expected (i.e. time to good arrival, checking out...). I had the crispy beef and my husband had the salt and pepper shrimp. This is consistently such a fantastic place for sushi at lunch. They have a lunch menu that has great deals and value for the portions and quality. The sushi chef is super friendly and will create whatever sushi your heart desires as well. Especially nice if you sit at the bar. I had the sushi B dish today and have in the past got the bento box which is also tasty and plentiful. It's a nice classy setting to take clients out to or have a casual lunch with the girls with some sake or wine. They do have an outdoor patio in front that is a tranquil place to eat outside.
