The fried rice just tasted like soy sauce and had corn in it, which I found odd. The tofu was flavorless in a watery sauce with celery, which I also found odd. The beef had very little flavor. Turns out it actually overrides one of the choices for a roll instead. I am generally skeptical of places that include "xpress" in their name. It looks like a fast food joint too, but I was pleasantly surprised that the food here was fresh, and very delicious (as well as fast). My bf and I each ordered one of the daily specials: the spicy chicken, and the red Thai curry. Each had a unique flavor. Each was awesome! The curry came with lots of veggies which were clearly fresh, not frozen, the chicken had celery and peanuts which added the perfect crunch. Another plus-this place has its own parking lot. I just found my go-to place for Chinese delivery in East Somerville. My General Gau's Chicken was light and spicy, and the veggie fried rice was also light and flavorful. Lotus express is a transcendental experience. Although it looks like your traditional Chinese takeout from the exterior, lotus has some of the best quality Asian fusion cuisine around Boston. Absolutely great food, and great service! Ordered the Chicken basil and eggplant, and tried their mango mochi for dessert yesterday. Today I tried a spicy tuna maki (best I have ever had-from any of the many places in Boston). The General gau and broccoli with vegetable fried rice, crab rangoon for an entree. Wow! This place impressed me. I was expecting a typical fast-food Chinese joint, but no, Lotus Xpress is delicious, high-quality Asian cuisine. They have recently opened & are making the aromas & tastes of good Asian food waft through the neighborhood. We were there on their 2nd day open last week & have been back since (it's that good!). We've ordered a variety of dishes, including the Szechuan crispy beef, Gao's chicken, wonton soup, sushi plates, etc. All very good. My favorite so far however is the Szechuan spicy dumpling appetizer. Unbelievable! As someone who travels to Szechuan frequently, that dish just brought me there through its authentic taste. In addition to the numerous Chinese dishes, they also serve Japanese, Mongolian, Thai, Tibetan & other Asian cuisines. Service is fast, yet attentive. wow, i had high hopes for Lotus Xpress because it's super close to my house. but it was Bad. i ordered take out, pad see ew for me and drunken noodles for my sweetie. our dishes, tho, were seriously not worth eating. and that's saying a lot, because i am very liberal in my ideas of what's worth putting into my mouth. problems with the dishes: 1) they clearly use the same base of noodles and veggies for both dishes, then add sauce to differentiate. which wouldn't be sooo terrible if the following weren't also true; 2) saying they use "veggies" at all is a generous overstatement. my pad see ew had 3 pieces of broccoli, 2 slivers of carrot, one piece of scallion, and 2 slices of onion. wowzers trousers, disappointing; 3) the sauce was *not* *good*. it was, in fact, bad. the pad see ew didn't taste at all how pad see ew ought to, and not just because it was bland and overly salty. i am assured that same was true of the drunken noodles. i mean, come on. don't just put some random, not delicious sauce on and call it whatever you want. won't be eating here again, and i recommend you don't either. usually i like to offer recommendations for better food elsewhere, but i just moved here and don't know the area very well yet. only reason for two stars instead of one is that we started with soups, which were fine. nothing great, but not bad. if you're desperate for soup and this is your only option, fine. go ahead. but don't order any noodles, you will regret it. read more

Excellent little spot in Somerville. I usually get the beef chow foon, some crab rangoons, scallion pancakes, and a sushi roll. Duck sauce is on point. It doesn't have little brown bits and shit in it like some other places. They follow the IKEA DIY mantra so you clean up after yourself when you're done eating. read more

I'm not usually a fan of asian food but ordered from here for the second time today and it was great! got the terikyaki chicken dinner combo the first time and the chicken tasted really fresh and like it was good quality. the combo also came with spring rolls and they were the best spring rolls I've ever had. the vegetables inside seemed extremely fresh and it tasted like they made it in house rather than buying pre made ones! got red thai curry the second time, which is also delicious. there is a good balance between the spicy and coconut flavor. they did forget rice with my order, but I called them about it once I got home and they offered to deliver it to my place for free! really happy with their customer service and commitment to quality! read more

Ok, this place took over the KFC building and it's been a dream come true! My goodness, I've been there about 2 times. Friendly owners from Taiwan. Compliments to the chefs in the back cooking such very tasty dishes. I've sampled quite a bit so far and have been impressed each time. Pad Thai, fresh, not as greasy and flavorful (I like to put pineapple and skip the crushed peanuts, myself). Miso soup - nice and not overly salty, boneless ribs are basic. They're ok, not homemade like my wife's! Typical for any Chinese restaurant. Spicy Tuna Maki - they offered it for free as a sampling and I was impressed! Best spicy tuna maki I've tasted. Schezuan Beef - my goodness they really shine here. Tasty, spicy, but not overly done for American tastes, juicy tender beef flank slices, with nice peppers/veggies and soft potatoes (Never had potatoes in a Chinese dish before! This worked beautifully! EXCELLENT! Today I went wanted to try so many dishes.. but can only eat so much, right? This is easily my favorite place in the Medford Somerville area for Chinese. This place is quick, provided a lot of food for a reasonable price and had flavors that wow'ed. All the staples of great Chinese good eatery. Admittedly we almost walked away because of their appearance of being a primarily take out place. We got food for 4 with all genres of Asian cuisine and apps and still it all came out in 7 minutes. Blown away by how soon the food came out we were soon even more blown away by the amazing flavors in our dishes. Fresh is the best way to explain what we ate, so fresh. The spicy Szechuan fish was so so melt in your mouth it was like candy. The Alaskan rolls were as fresh a maki roll I have ever had. The drunken noodles were so good not to spicy and not too sweet a perfect combination for this dish. Scallion pancakes were done perfectly I couldn't have been more happy with them. I came here with high expectations due to the yelp that were not met. This is the best Chinese in this area, but it is also the only Chinese in this area. I am an experienced Chinese food consumer and have been to effectively every Chinese shop within 10 miles. Anyone in this neighborhood is less than a mile from Zoe's, Wok and Roll, in Porter, and Mary Chungs in Central, and Great Wok in Arlington are better. The service was fast. I am still willing to give the sushi a try, and maybe their szechuan food is better; they seem to have some sort of specialty there. Otherwise, my verdict is that Trader Joes does better Chinese food, as does the handful of truly delicious Chinese spots a little farther into Somerville/ Cambridge. read more

They delivered to my hotel in less time than they estimated. I ordered the General Gao Chicken, 3 appetizer mix ( spring rolls, beef teriyaki, and boneless pork w/fried rice), and miso soup. Total came out to $23.85 The general gao chicken was spicy, too spicy for me, but all I did was avoid the red peppers and it was perfect. The teriyaki beef was very tasty, I wish there was more than one. The boneless pork was also tasty.
