It is a surcharge every restaurant has paid for decades every time a credit card is used which the restaurant builds into their prices. Now they are gouging us by adding the surcharge to our bill with no explanation. Even if you pay cash or use a debit card ( which has no additional charge ) they still charge you more. I will not return to this restaurant again. Greed seems to affect some owners. IF they would disclose this BEFORE ordering, it would give you a choice to stay or go somewhere else. Unfortunately this may affect tops in the future even hough the server has nothing to do with this greed. But if the servers don't make tips, the owners may revisit the decision.
