I was really excited when I saw that this shop had moved from the Walnut Street courtyard to Vine Street. Their new interior is very cute and more spacious. While there isn't any indoor seating, they have two tables with chairs outside. The frosting on the red velvet cupcake was smooth and perfectly sweet and tangy. I wasn't blown away by the cake itself -- it was a little too dry for me. The chocolate chip cookie was solid. Our furry friend devoured his pupcake with much gusto, so we will definitely be back for that. Maybe we will try a different cupcake flavor next time. read more

The taste and flavors were very delicious. The cake was denser than what I am used to but the flavors and textures were definitely on point. Just enough tartness for the key lime and the crushed graham cracker bottom was the best part. It was very yummy! What's not to love about cupcake shop. The place is a bit hidden. If you're on Shattuck, you walk up North on Vine, and then there is a sign for the shop pointing towards a set of wooden stairs that you walk up to. There is a few little shops in the courtyard, but I'm not sure what they were since my mind was set on cupcakes. The shop is teeny, but has plenty of flavor options. I got Pistachio Chocolate cupcake which was perfect. The cupcake was chocolate and the cream on top was pistachio flavored. I also had a classic Red Velvet Cake. Love at First Bite is my favorite gourmet cupcake shop in East Bay. I first stepped foot in their cute shop 10 years ago when I lived in the area. They had me at matcha green tea cupcake, $3.60. To this day, their quality of the green tea cupcake is still consistent. Sure, prices have gone up, but as that is life. Everything goes up except paycheck... Ordered 2 cupcakes and thankfully not more, as we wanted to taste test from a few different cupcake stores. In the end it was clear to us that the cupcakes from here were not freshly baked, perhaps a day old. This is reflected in the dryness of the crumb, how when you bite in there's not the soft yielding cake. You always just know when a cupcake is fresh for the day, or not. Gave it 2 stars for taste - would have been the winner if not for the above. Icing was nice, not grainy. Tip - make sure to ask for a cupcake made that day. My lab mentor brought a half dozen cupcakes for my birthday a few months ago and they were yummy! I only had the ginger and chocolate one and liked the chocolate. After a friend of mine heard that I was spending the day in the east bay, she recommended that I seek out Love at First Bite as she had them cater her wedding. She especially raved about the "pretty in pink" which is a strawberry lover's dream being strawberry buttercream topped on strawberry cake which I sadly did not try as other flavors were sounding out their siren call. So many enticing flavors though that it was difficult to choose! We ended up getting the razzle dazzle, a seasonal flavor, which is raspberry frosting on chocolate cake and the hummingbird (banana, pineapple, pecan cake with a pineapple cream cheese frosting). I think where they excel is the frosting. It's not cloyingly sweet. You can taste the essence of the raspberries or pineapple. Not any artificial ingredients but what I imagine to be the sun kissed fruit that lovingly gets mixed into these cupcakes. I noticed a couple of reviews mentioning how dry the cake was but I didn't have this issue. The employee who sold us our cupcakes was sweet and very mindful of us waiting for another customer to finish up and apologized for ringing her up first. Not a problem since since she had come in before us. Would come back here in a heartbeat! The price points of the cupcakes were exactly right from $3.25 - $3.50.
