This cake was phenomenal! The design was perfect and detailed. I ordered a chocolate cake with raspberry cream and it was so moist and creamy! I would highly recommend :)

El Cerrito has needed a bakery and PennDel's Bakehouse hits the mark! The women behind this special business are so amazing & thoughtful. You can tell they bake with love & use super fresh ingredients. Such a great value for delicious grab & go treats including specialty and seasonal cakes (and slices), cupcakes, cookies, muffins, garlic-green onion-cheddar biscuits (so good to bring home and make breakfast sandwiches with) and more. We had a family birthday cake made by PennDel's recently & the women went above & beyond (we had to delay the order several times because of Covid) to truly make this dessert one for the books! Thank you for joining the list of El Cerrito's top spots & a place that's always warm/inviting when you need something on the run!

Came into town for mine & husband's 5yr wedding anniversary lunch at a restaurant then came for dessert & ran into this very cute bakery & so glad I made the right choice. Snatched up a few cupcakes & chocolate crinkles & goodness the ones we tried were soooo delicious! I'm sure the rest will be just as amazing! I'm not sure who the lady was who served me but she was so sweet & right away got sweet good vibes when I walked up. Everyone needs to try this place! I'm definitely coming back when I'm in the area again.

Love this women-owned delicious local bakery in El Cerrito!! Pamela ("Del" from Delaware and Gayle ( "Penn" from Pennsylvania) started this bakery a few years ago and combined their hometown names to make "PennDel" - so catchy! Inside was homey, clean and welcoming. Finally checked it off my yelp bucket list for Mother's Day and got a few Meyer lemon mini cheesecakes, vegan savory scone, and a 6 inch black and white cake, which is 3 tiered marbled chocolate and vanilla. It serves 6-8 ppl. Pamela graciously helped us out and explained the bakery and the many offerings to us. There were several cakes, including seasonal Meyer lemon, raspberry, classic chocolate/vanilla/carrot cake and cheesecakes along with tasty savory and sweet pastries, including gluten free and vegan options. The black and white cake was absolutely divine and it was love at first bite for my fam. The moist chocolate cake and the vanilla/chocolate buttercream pairing was scrumptious! It's recommended to thaw it at room temp for a few hours for best results. The cheesecakes and vegan scone were also really yummy. Look forward to ordering more of their cakes in the future - so happy to have found a go-to bakery 15 min away!

LOVE this bakery!!! Gayle and Pamela are so kind and accommodating. We asked them to make our wedding cake in their signature chocolate raspberry flavor (and to keep the natural pink frosting!). Everyone absolutely loved the cake, it couldn't have been more perfect. They were very responsive and made sure everything was perfect for us. Their flavors are always so fresh and never fake-tasting. If I could afford it, I would go here everyday :)

Since they been around awhile I have had the pleasure of trying more baked goods. I can really see this bakery being a staple of the community. Had a bday for my son and stopped in and they had a wonderful variety of cupcakes. I also grabbed a gf tea cake and a couple pumpkin cheesecakes for the party for those with different dietary needs. Everyone loved all the baked goods. The owners are lovely and I wish them great success. I have also picked up a couple things at other times and their pumpkin chocolate chip loaf is TDF.

I stopped by PennDel's after a long day in El Cerrito with my family. We were craving sweets and I remembered that I had this bakery saved and wanted to try something here. I ordered two cupcakes and one banana bread. The cupcake does not have that "fresh" taste that you would get from a same day bakery. We could definitely tell that they were made and refrigerated or frozen beforehand, so that was a downside to our visit. The banana bread was not bad. We liked it more than we liked the cupcake. The ladies inside were very nice and patient as we looked and chose what we wanted. Overall, I would give PennDel's a 3/5 stars.

Look no further for the best bakery - We needed a perfect cake for my son's celebration of life and we were so pleased with the masterpiece that was created. It was movie star quality and the design work was top notch. My son loved sunflowers and succulents and Pam created the most perfect design. My daughter sat down with her and explained detail by detail. You could see all the love in her design. And the taste of this carrot cake was the best I have ever had and I have had a lot. Thank you Pam & Gayle for the best cake for my son Michael's celebration of life

If you ask, they will heat it up just a little bit for you. The inside gets warmer than the outside and the contrast is amazing. I usually go early and the person at the front is so helpful. If you've ever had Arsicault, then you'll understand what I mean when I say this place is a true contender. And the best part? You don't have to travel far, pay that toll bridge, or deal with expensive gas. Save all that and give this place a try! Do note: Canelé -- available Friday to Sunday Pastel de nata (Portuguese tarts) -- available Saturday & Sunday What I've tried: Croissant -- Yum, yum, yum! From end to end, it has that perfectly crunchy exterior, and not a hollow bite in sight. Every bite is flaky, buttery, and satisfying. Chocolate Croissant -- A must if you love chocolate. Rich, flaky, and indulgent. Almond Croissant -- Another delicious contender. Nutty, sweet, and absolutely worth it. Apricot Croissant -- Not bad at all. The apricot adds a nice touch without overpowering the pastry. Bostock -- This one was a miss for me. It looked beautiful, but it was missing that little finesse that makes you want another bite. Gâteau au Fromage (Basque Cheesecake) -- A bit pricey, but so worth the splurge because they really know how to nail it. One bite and you won't be able to stop until it's gone. Pastel de Nata -- Crispy edges with a delicate, creamy, and delicious filling. That crunch is everything. Canelé -- These babies sell fast, so make sure to get there when they open. I love the crunchy exterior paired with that soft, custardy inside. Yum, yum, yum! Chocolate Fondant -- Not bad, but not my favorite. I've definitely had better elsewhere. Chocolate Hazelnut Cake -- The flavor was nice, but I found this one just a tad dry. Bottom line: While not everything was a home run, their croissants, canelés, Basque cheesecake, and pastel de nata are absolutely worth coming back for. A hidden gem that delivers big on flavor without the long drive. Definitely worth the visit!

My first visit was a to-go order of the Original Croissant, Pain Suisse, and Flan, and I loved everything so much that I came back again a month later when I was in the area. Their pastries are seriously exceptional, and I can totally see why they won the award. Personally though, I actually love the Pain Suisse even more! The dough was flaky, buttery, a right balance between crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside with each bite. And the Flan Vanille is on another level. I've tried so many different flans and even know how to make a pretty good one myself, but this is the kind of flan I would bring to a party if I wanted to impress everyone. The bakery itself is beautiful, and I love that you can watch the bakers working through the glass window. Their pastry display is also dangerous because everything looks so good, with tons of sweet and savory options. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating as well. Staffs were friendly and welcoming. I also tried their holiday berry croissant on my second visit. They definitely did NOT skimp on the filling lol. It was actually a little too much filling-to-croissant ratio for me, but I appreciate the generosity! Strawberry Cookie were soft and fresh Prices are pretty average for artisan pastries, and the quality and size is definitely worth it. Such a great bakery in Danville and I'll absolutely be back.

Pain Suisse $6.50 a chocolate crioissant that has lingering pieces of crisp chocolate that oozed out while baking. The croissant had flaky layers that was very well crafted.
