El Cerrito has needed a bakery and PennDel's Bakehouse hits the mark! The women behind this special business are so amazing & thoughtful. You can tell they bake with love & use super fresh ingredients. Such a great value for delicious grab & go treats including specialty and seasonal cakes (and slices), cupcakes, cookies, muffins, garlic-green onion-cheddar biscuits (so good to bring home and make breakfast sandwiches with) and more. We had a family birthday cake made by PennDel's recently & the women went above & beyond (we had to delay the order several times because of Covid) to truly make this dessert one for the books! Thank you for joining the list of El Cerrito's top spots & a place that's always warm/inviting when you need something on the run!

Came into town for mine & husband's 5yr wedding anniversary lunch at a restaurant then came for dessert & ran into this very cute bakery & so glad I made the right choice. Snatched up a few cupcakes & chocolate crinkles & goodness the ones we tried were soooo delicious! I'm sure the rest will be just as amazing! I'm not sure who the lady was who served me but she was so sweet & right away got sweet good vibes when I walked up. Everyone needs to try this place! I'm definitely coming back when I'm in the area again.

Love this women-owned delicious local bakery in El Cerrito!! Pamela ("Del" from Delaware and Gayle ( "Penn" from Pennsylvania) started this bakery a few years ago and combined their hometown names to make "PennDel" - so catchy! Inside was homey, clean and welcoming. Finally checked it off my yelp bucket list for Mother's Day and got a few Meyer lemon mini cheesecakes, vegan savory scone, and a 6 inch black and white cake, which is 3 tiered marbled chocolate and vanilla. It serves 6-8 ppl. Pamela graciously helped us out and explained the bakery and the many offerings to us. There were several cakes, including seasonal Meyer lemon, raspberry, classic chocolate/vanilla/carrot cake and cheesecakes along with tasty savory and sweet pastries, including gluten free and vegan options. The black and white cake was absolutely divine and it was love at first bite for my fam. The moist chocolate cake and the vanilla/chocolate buttercream pairing was scrumptious! It's recommended to thaw it at room temp for a few hours for best results. The cheesecakes and vegan scone were also really yummy. Look forward to ordering more of their cakes in the future - so happy to have found a go-to bakery 15 min away!

LOVE this bakery!!! Gayle and Pamela are so kind and accommodating. We asked them to make our wedding cake in their signature chocolate raspberry flavor (and to keep the natural pink frosting!). Everyone absolutely loved the cake, it couldn't have been more perfect. They were very responsive and made sure everything was perfect for us. Their flavors are always so fresh and never fake-tasting. If I could afford it, I would go here everyday :)

Since they been around awhile I have had the pleasure of trying more baked goods. I can really see this bakery being a staple of the community. Had a bday for my son and stopped in and they had a wonderful variety of cupcakes. I also grabbed a gf tea cake and a couple pumpkin cheesecakes for the party for those with different dietary needs. Everyone loved all the baked goods. The owners are lovely and I wish them great success. I have also picked up a couple things at other times and their pumpkin chocolate chip loaf is TDF.

Look no further for the best bakery - We needed a perfect cake for my son's celebration of life and we were so pleased with the masterpiece that was created. It was movie star quality and the design work was top notch. My son loved sunflowers and succulents and Pam created the most perfect design. My daughter sat down with her and explained detail by detail. You could see all the love in her design. And the taste of this carrot cake was the best I have ever had and I have had a lot. Thank you Pam & Gayle for the best cake for my son Michael's celebration of life

I stopped by PennDel's after a long day in El Cerrito with my family. We were craving sweets and I remembered that I had this bakery saved and wanted to try something here. I ordered two cupcakes and one banana bread. The cupcake does not have that "fresh" taste that you would get from a same day bakery. We could definitely tell that they were made and refrigerated or frozen beforehand, so that was a downside to our visit. The banana bread was not bad. We liked it more than we liked the cupcake. The ladies inside were very nice and patient as we looked and chose what we wanted. Overall, I would give PennDel's a 3/5 stars.

I opted for a white mocha and tuna melt. I have to say the tuna melt is the BEST. It's served on a toasted flaky croissant with the perfect amount of tuna. Unfortunately, my experience fell short in a few meaningful ways. I ordered a lavender coffee latte, which I was really looking forward to, but it lacked flavor and was disappointing enough that I chose not to purchase anything further. That alone might not have stopped me from returning, but what followed did. Knowing European culture, and especially Parisian cafés, are often very dog-friendly, and given Napa's well-known dog-loving atmosphere, I felt comfortable bringing my dog, who is a service animal. I was immediately asked to leave because only service animals are allowed, with the assumption made that my dog was not one. While he is in fact a service animal, the interaction left me feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. There was no curiosity or neutral clarification... just an assumption and a request to leave. That moment really deflated the excitement I had walking in. Between the coffee experience and feeling unwelcome, I decided not to stay as long as planned or purchase anything further. I'm glad to see that others have had better experiences here, and the pastries certainly look lovely. I suppose those interested should trust other reviewers on that front. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I won't be returning.

My order: Ube Mochi Danish ($4.65): +This reminded me more of a pineapple bun vs a danish, with its crunchy top & soft bread. +Ube was smooth and mochi was chewy -As someone who orders drinks w/reduced sweetness, I thought the bread was bland and could be a touch sweeter. -Unfortunately, they don't provide you with an actual bag or sleeve to hold your bread. Durian Pull Apart Bread ($6.20): +Even though there was a cloud of powdered sugar, it was surprisingly not too sweet! +The packaging was so cute with the cartoon & Chinese message. -I was expecting something lighter & fluffy, but it was on the denser side.
