I love the sushi here. I've only ever done takeout and delivery, but I can always count on the rolls to taste fresh and delicious. It's also fun seeing what freebies they throw in each order. Sometimes it's wontons; other times it's spring rolls. I docked one star because their takoyaki were just sad when I got them. Granted, it was a delivery order, so it's possible that they got soggy on the ride over. Regardless, I was less than impressed given that I ate it nearly every day that I was in Japan over the summer. Several local establishments, such as Jinya Ramen, have it, so hold off and try it there first. If you're looking for good sushi, come here, but get your takoyaki elsewhere. read more

I've been in search of a good sushi place since moving here recently, and I think I found it! I called ahead to order sushi for pickup and it was ready within 15 minutes. I got a spicy salmon (my favorite roll), a shrimp tempura, and miso soup. All for $13!! The spicy salmon was a little disappointing--it was a spicy 'salmon-salad' type filling. My preference is a whole piece of salmon with avocado and topped with spicy mayo. But I realize that's just my preference. The shrimp tempura was very good and the serving of miso soup was generous! Definitely worth $1.95. I will be back, hopefully to try one of the special rolls next time. read more

Let me say first off I am extremely upset about my order from this establishment. I ordered $80 worth of food. When I got home my roommate looked in her food and saw a bug CRAWLING around! We were shocked and disgusted and immediately called Love Sushi back! We were told in order to receive a full refund we should call Q Menu and when I called they told me that the restaurant would be the ones to issue the refund. This is my favorite place to go to for quality sushi at a great price. The "regular rolls" (philly, California, shrimp tempura) are cheap ($3.50 - $4.50) and taste fresh. They have a decent lunch special. Every day (including weekends) you can get 2 of the regular rolls for $6.50 or 3 for $9.95. Its also nice to find a small sushi place that has a good selection of specialty rolls. One of my favorites is the Crush on You roll. I'm not a big fan of their "spicy rolls" here but I don't hold it against them. My favorite thing about this restaurant is they have great customer service. Everyone that works there always has a smile on their face and now that I have been there a few times they treat me like a "regular" and ask about my sisters. I love it. Oh P.S...they deliver. With a name like Love Sushi, one would think that their menu is a cross between Edo and Elizabethan prose filled with all the flowery enchantments and structure of the Japanese Haiku to become Edo-bethan. It should work...instead, it's Meh Sushi. Let me sum up: Went on Wednesday, late afternoon. (You should be able to go to any restaurant at any time and get the same value, service and food quality). Not always the case. Oh, yeah...the sushi fridge case. Nearly empty with what seemed like leftover fish. Really, left over. The menu has it some funny errors. Tuna is spelled Magrro, instead of Maguro. Futomaki becomes Frutomaki, ya know that fruit infused salmon wrapped in nori deep fried then dipped into that wasabi bar b que sauce. Wait, that may actually make their menu. With new sushi restaurants I always try standards first: Tuna, Salmon, Mackerel, a Spicy Tuna Hand roll, and Sea Urchin. Oh, yeah...sea urchin is not on the menu. Really? Oy Vey...I'm a mensch that deserves better. I also requested miso soup and the sushi rice instead of regular rice as a side dish. This way, you get to taste whether or not they are doing the basics correctly. And a glass of water. Water. Oh, you sweet, sweet nectar that comes unfiltered from the tap tasting so much like the Chesapeake. yeah. Miso soup: Served hot, but too much miso taste making it salty and unpleasant. Sushi Rice: I knew it would be room temperature. But the lack of flavor and sheen on the rice is characteristic of unevenly flavored rice. Tuna: Good color, but not the freshest. Salmon: Good oily, not smelly, but not the freshest. Mackerel: Good, but their garlic/green onion mix on the top hides the flavor of the fish and with a strong fish like mackerel, this is not good. I want to taste that, not garlic/onion. Spicy Tuna Hand Roll: tuna mixed in a mayo with a ever so light siracha with green onions and cucumber. Good texture, but no heat, no spice... so no go. The lack of vibrancy with the sauce and not the freshest tuna made this lacking...flavor. The pricing is fair, customer service is good, but not great. Now, bear in mind i'm coming in at 4:30 to an empty place and asian...so, I get asked questions like flies on shoofly pie. You know that restaurants come and go and that's reality. I get it, I remember when Love Sushi was an Indian restaurant. I wish the Indian restaurant was back. As a sushi head carrying my own chopsticks, I like sushi, I know sushi, I love sushi. I do not love this place. The opposite of love is not hate but indifference. Thus, the two stars for Meh Sushi. Came here for Lunch. Lunch special is 2 rolls for $6.50 or 3 for $9.95, which totally caught my attention. I know 'Old Kimura' on Rockville Pike has a similar lunch special like this one but I can say that the fish here is much more fresh. I can taste the quality in the sushi and it's definitely great for the price. I got 3 rolls, a unagi bento box and specialty roll called the 'Crunchy Spicy Tuna Dragon Roll', which was bomb. Total came out to be $35 between 2 people and I went home with a full box because I got so full from just sharing the bento box and a roll. Too bad this place isn't closer to my work, I would be coming here everyday for sushi. Sushi here is definitely worth the $$$. Staff is very friendly. We used to love this place until one day I went there and as we finished our meal my cheeks swelled up. It was terrifying. I raced to the er where it was discovered I had scombroid fish poisoning. Later the fda confirmed a number of cases from Spoiled tuna. I advise you avoid this place but if you go watch out for dry peppery tuna. That means it's spoiled. Scombroid can cause anaphylaxis which it did in this case. It took months of being on steroids and Benadryl to recover and was very scary. I would avoid this place. I will never go back. read more

A group of four of us stopped in here for lunch. I ordered the Miso soup and an order of rolls (six rolls total) with smoked salmon and cucumber, plus a bowl of Miso soup. The rest of the group ordered Miso soup, salads, and a variety of rolls. The service was fast and the rolls were fresh and tasty - served with pickled ginger and the traditional fake wasabi. The Miso soup was your standard Miso soup. They also offer a choice between regular soy sauce and low sodium soy sauce. I went with the low sodium option. The only thing I will ding them on - it felt like our server was constantly hovering around our table, trying to remove things constantly. I liked it. I had the lunch special 3 rolls: the Spicy White Tuna Roll, the Tuna Roll, and the Eel and Avocado Roll. Let's start with the latter. I love Unagi. It was nicely featured in the roll. The asparagus was fresh with some nice crunch and flavor. My favorite of the three. The Tuna Roll was good and what you would expect for a Tuna roll. No surprises, just good, fresh fish. The White Tuna was not my favorite. I will not be trying that again. It's texture was to slippery and squishy. I like my raw fish firm, especially in Maki sushi. There is something about a roll with some slippery mucilaginous stuff inside that makes me go ick. The service was excellent. The green tea was fine. There is a TV which I think is distracting in a sushi joint. I like more of a Zen feel. The price was excellent, however, if you go off the (to be fair, extremely expansive) lunch special menu, then you are at 8 or 9 bucks easy. If you are like me and you like Spider Maki, then you will pay 8.50 for that here. This place does offer Sushiredo, sushi burritos, which although trendy can be hard to find... In my opinion, this is the best sushi in Gaithersburg. I've come here so many times and have yet to be disappointed. The sushi is always fresh and the staff are always attentive. Also on a couple of occasions, they gave our table a free dessert (banana tempura which is delicious). The lunch special is a great deal (2 rolls for $6.95 or 3 for $9.95, and I think you can add a salad or soup for an extra $1 or $2). Also their lunch special runs for a long time so it's's hard to miss (11:30 am - 3:30 pm). I came here with my family not expecting much and knew that this restaurant had good reviews on yelp. Walking into the restaurant, I was surprised to see that there were only a couple of groups seated. I was a little worried by that but shrugged it off. I just assumed that this place was more of a lunch place. All and all, My family and I ended up having a good time in the corner of the restaurant: chatting, instagraming, and joking around. The staff was wonderful, they greeted us and took care of us nicely. They gave us on the house their Edamame and Tempura Banana. Next to us there was a family celebrating a birthday and you could tell they come regularly, the waitress knew them and treated them life family as well. Great experience. Found it on yelp with 4 stars and over 200 reviews, figured we would stop for something quick. Man was it fast and the service was on point. So she suggested the other corner and when she got our drink order (2 waters) she asked if we wanted ice water or hot water. Talk about responding to cues. Tons of options on the menu with a great selection of special rolls. But when I laid eyes on the Japanese burrito....SOLD! I usually need to order two special rolls to get my fix. Best part of the burrito was 3 proteins 3 add ins and any combo of sauces. So I was able to get it all in one. Shrimp tempura, crab stick and spicy tuna. Cucumber, cream cheese and avocado. eel sauce and wasabi mayo. Also I was able to sub brown rice for $1 TOTAL $12.95 Girlfriend ordered spring rolls and cali roll. We almost got edamame but for $5 decided not to. Apparently the server heard our conversation and 3 minutes later he brought a small cup "on the house" we were shocked. Food was great not too heavy burrito was a little smaller than expected but I was satisfied and didn't feel like I needed anything else. This might just be my new go-to for sushi lunches. I'm a long-time fan of Yoyogi, but this place has expanded lunch special options (particularly on the maki rolls) as well as a larger menu in general. Besides the noodles and bento boxes, my favorite lunch specials are the sushi rolls. You get to pick from a good variety of rolls, either 2 for $6.95 or 3 for $9.95. We got a 3-roll special with tuna avocado/salmon avocado/Philly, and all came with plenty of fish. We also ordered the sashimi lunch (6 pieces white tuna/salmon/red snapperand 6 pieces California roll), which was good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the white tuna as sashimi. The dinner menu also looked great - 20 pieces of sashimi for $24.95 seems like a solid option. I would come back here for dinner, although it would definitely be a casual not-fancy dinner since the interior is decorated like any standard Chinese restaurant. The only downside compared to Yoyogi (or upside for some) is the full waiter service. I think it's universally true that full waiter service is slower than ordering/paying at the counter first, especially during a busy lunch hour. read more

Don't let the small strip mall setting fool you. To quote my girlfriend "this place is legit". I usually categorize and rate sushi places by three things: their miso soup, their ginger dressing and the strength of their wasabi. Needless to say all three were amazing. I had an eel and shrimp tempura special role which was perfectly done. The eel was soft, warm and tasty and the avocado and shrimp tempura were great compliments. I've been coming to Love Sushi once a week for a few years now and they are fantastic. The fish is always fresh and the rice is light and flavorful and everything is always beautifully presented. I've tried a variety of rolls, maki and have tried their teriyaki before as well. My current favorites are the dart maki, spider maki and more recently the make your own burrito!! I'm not sure why I slept on the burrito, don't make my mistake. It is so good and large enough to be shared. I usually get my food to go so I can't speak to the table service, but the to go service has always been on point. The price is crazy affordable for the quality and portion size. This place may have just become my favorite affordable sushi spot. It used to be Rolls N' Rice (because man, is that place cheap). But Love Sushi isn't much more expensive and the food is tastier and the service milessss better. We had a roll with torched fish on top (delish, and I usually prefer my fish to be raaaw) that was HUGE and the Salmon Lovers, which came with salmon maki, salmon nigiri, and salmon sashimi! It was all fresh and melt in your mouth good. We also received the following on the house: - miso soups (standard but tasty); - edamame (nicely salted); and - banana tempura (deff get this, they are proud of it here). Panko fried chicken in sushi? Honestly, for a person who is allergic to seafood but loves sushi, I was excited to see this Phoenix roll on the menu. Chicken, lettuce, cream cheese, teriyaki sauce. "A" for creativity, but it was too heavy and sat like a brick in my stomach. If you were craving fried chicken on rice, this could satisfy. But if you're craving clean, fresh, light sushi, this is not the roll for you. Avocado rolls had a generous amount of filling but were just below mediocre. I think it's something about the rice. Hubby had the chirashi and he said that the fish was really fresh. Gyoza, I thought, were really good, but resembled Chinese potstickers more than Japanese gyoza. I really like the handmade wrapping. Tried this place based on reviews. The soups, both Udon and Ramen definitely hit the spot for my older girls and myself. Even the Teriyaki Chicken shared by my younger boys was finished.
