Our close cousin Dave passed away unexpectedly last week, and as the Flying Bison brewery was his favorite haunt, we had his funeral lunch there. One of his favorite places for pizza/wings was Lovejoy Pizza, so in his honor, we ordered a sheet and two buckets. The day of the funeral came, along with a major lake effect storm. The owner called to apologize and say that he didn't have a driver available to drop off the food, could we pick it up? I braved the elements and did so, and it was totally worth it. I have to agree with the other reviewers that Anthony is a great owner, and took personal pride in what he does. The food was demolished in short order, and Aimee and I went back the next night to get a slice and thank them. He comped us the slices and gave her a t-shirt to boot! While there are tons of places to get a buffalo-style pizza, LoveJoy is the BEST. Anthony was great to chat with, and since we were visiting for a Football game, he gave us a ton of tips on how to get there and where to park. A prime example of a true Buffalo man, he was very sweet :) He even introduced us to the highlighted wing sauce, 'Charbeque', and they were AMAZING. We got a straight cheese & pepperoni Pizza as well. We didn't expect to eat a full pizza and ten wings, but when I say LoveJoys is THAT good, well than it was even better than that. Anthony is the true embodiment of "City of Good Neighbors" - he's a really good guy and a true asset to the neighborhood. I'd want to support any business that he's a part of, but it's a plus that his pizza is delish. In a town filled with lots of good pizza options, Lovejoy's is very solid. Medium-thick crust, sauce that isn't too spicy or too sweet, classic char cup pepperoni, and the price is right. I often crave pizza on my work break and I had been looking for a good pizza place close to work since the cafeteria pizza isn't good at all. A few weeks ago I found Lovejoy pizza which is just a 2 block walk from my office downtown. They have a $5.99 for 2 slices and a bottled drink special which I've gotten a few times so far. The pizza is good, it's cheesy and saucy just the way I like it. The service is quick and the workers are courteous. It wasn't the best slice I ever had, in fact, it wasn't even close to being one of the best slices in town, but it was good, and the service was some of the best in town, from one of the friendliest guys in any pizza shop anywhere, who had a nice long conversation with me. I don't know if he'd have been as friendly if he'd known my ethnic background, but I'll leave it at that. ;) He gave me two slices for the price of one, so I gave one of them to my pizza-loving friend, and she absolutely loved it. He heated them up for me, so they were piping hot and very satisfying. He doesn't charge much for them (well under 2.50) and it's well worth stopping by to try it, as the other reviews detail. While you're there, strike up a conversation with him about the old days and the neighborhood of Lovejoy where his original pizzeria is located (on Lovejoy St. just a few blocks East of Bailey), and you'll get some very interesting stories. These guys have really gotten familiar with my address as they have become my new go-to for delivery, especially for pizza. Let me stress, especially for pizza. I've had both the standard cheese with and without toppings as well as the white. Solid. Also solid is the friendly customer service. Everyone here from the owner to the delivery folks to the people answering the phones are always just really nice. Only two critiques: twice my sub order has been wrong but I just ate it how it came. Maybe they aren't necessarily writing those details down. Also, twice I have called in the evening to reach a ringing phone with no answer. So I guess sometimes they close up early - some sort of recorded message would be nice to let folks know so we don't try calling back. A few more pluses to note: in addition to the pizza which is a 'must try', I also recommend their tacos and wraps. In particular, the chicken taco that I ordered the other day was really good and that's a category I don't typically go into with high hopes for a pizza delivery joint. Thanks to the Buffalo Spree magazine, Lovejoy Pizza has been on chicken wing enthusiast's radar following its great showing in February 2015's local wing tournament. I know they found themselves on mine. I was in need of stopping in somewhere for a quick lunch last week, so I figured I'd have to settle for their pizza. Wings would do me no good as they take an average of 13.5 minutes for the word "wings" to get from my mouth until the moment an actual wing gets IN my mouth... ...But then I realized that Lovejoy keeps wings ready to order in their heating spindle! Without the time to kill waiting for wings to get fried, my only limitation was the type of sauce the wings had already been prepared in, which was honey sriracha. Not a bad sauce and I would get it again. I would have however, preferred hot sauce. But for 90 cents a wing (cheap), I wouldn't complain if they were prepared in horse manure mothball sauce. Let's get back to using the term "settling" about their pizza.. I didn't feel like I was "settling" after eating it. It was very cheesy and baked nicely well done for the perfect amount of browning in the cheese/ blackening of the crust. The dough had a certain bounce to the bite and was contrasted nicely but the crispy bottom. Definitely a slice worth getting again and soon. read more

I have ordered from here several times and while I LOVE their veggie pizza with the deluxe crust, they're customer service is lacking. Not that they aren't friendly, but every time I've ordered the actual time takes 5 or more minutes longer than told! Also we ordered chicken wings tonight and a large pizza, huge plus that they use fresh mushroom on their pizza (and if they're not fresh they are super yummy!). However the wings were dry and very little meat. And how is it most of the time you get the flat part of the wing as the majority and we ended up with drumstick??? So my mom was in the hospital and after a few days we were sick of the cafeteria food. One of the nurses suggested lovejoy pizza as it's very close to buffalo general. We ordered and they delivered to the hospital (we met him in the lobby) and it was amazing! The pizza was perfect. I have ordered the same sub now for almost a year I really liked it. I received one today that tasted bland and off and not the other 20 I have ordered. I called to let them know and from the moment the phone was answered came the attitude. asked for a manager got told he was busy why do you want him and the attitude increased. There is time before my bus was scheduled to show up and I'm hungry for lunch. I've passed by here a bunch of times - so I'm giving it a try. Counter service is basic; no issues. The pizza has the right kind of pepperoni (cup) so I order a couple pepperoni slices. There are a couple tables outside, so I sit. First thing I notice is how brazen the little finches outside are. Second thing is that the slices are very big crusted; not my favorite. The sauce (which is really what makes it breaks a pizza) is weak; no depth - which was disappointing. The cheese and pepperoni was good. I didn't like the pizza enough to have it again, but I wouldn't be opposed to trying other menu items. I have loved the Main Street location forever except for the last three weeks. On Monday alone I tried calling for over 45 minutes and it just rang and rang and rang. If you live in the city you know that there's not a lot of places, especially good ones, that deliver and are even open on Mondays. So when I called the other location and found out that they closed early on Main Street I was really upset, pretty pissed. Don't advertise that you close at 10 if you're going to just close early whenever you feel like it . This is been going on for the last 3 weeks and it's been really really upsetting to say it nicely. I can't believe they closed early on a Monday knowing they have no other competition so they're missing out on money. Honestly the best pizza I've had in Buffalo, and I'm so glad it's right around the corner! With a menu that encompasses pizza, subs, wings, and everything in between you won't be disappointed with the variety, the quality, and the service. I'll start with the pizza: -Sauce that is seasoned just right and tastes so fresh your Italian grandmother would approve. -Toppings that are fresh, and obviously picked with great care -Real, fresh mozzarella (are you seeing the "fresh" pattern?) -And a crust that is not the "traditional" doughy mess I've seen around town but instead a perfect foundation for the impeccable sauce, cheese and toppings. Ordered delivery from here recently and the pizza wasn't my favorite. Thick crust, no crunch, too doughy and salty for me. We ordered two personal pizzas. I do however like they have this option on their menu. Lots of speciality pies to choose from that all sounded really good. We got the veggie lovers personal pie and the basil chicken personal pie. When I called to place the delivery order, the guy on the phone was pretty cold and impatient. At the end of the phone call he just said, see you soon and hung up. That gave me no indication of how long the delivery was going to take. I wanted to jump in the shower but didn't want them to come while I was in there so I was kind of waiting around for the buzzer to go off. An hour and 15 minutes later, they were here. I thought that was a fairly long time to wait for delivery. The total came to $21. The personal pizzas are perfect for one, they come cut in 4's. The veggie lovers pizza had mushrooms that were too chew for me, broccoli, tomatoes, mozzarella, provolone, spinach and an olive oil and garlic base. As mentioned earlier, the crust was fluffy, chewy and thick and I really prefer thin and crunchy. That's a personal opinion though and the person joining me really enjoyed their pizza. I thought the crust and cheese were REALLY salty too. The basil chicken wasn't enjoyed by either of us. We had our choice between sweet or spicy peppers. We went with the spicy but they hardly had a kick. I didn't enjoy the seasoning on the chicken and the flavors just didn't work well for me.
