I have been going to Melissa for a very long time and I've never had an issue. They've had some interesting receptionists who I actually believe weren't very great. One of them double booked me and my daughter so when we got to the salon, we had to reschedule the appts. Melissa has always made time for me and she is the BEST at suggesting colors and designs. I've never felt like I was pushed to do something or pay for something that I didn't really want. I've had wonderful experiences with Lily, Shirley and Anna as well. I have been to MANY nail salons in my day and lovely nails and spa is by far the cleanest and has the friendliest staff! I particularly love Lily the nail tech. She is very sweet and always fits me in even if I call last minute. The owner also is very nice and he always makes a point to say hello when I am there. The receptionist is not very friendly and has a somewhat pushy attitude with both customers and staff. From reading other reviews I'm not the 1st to mention this to bad the owner doesn't see it . I called ahead and asked about pricing and if there was a wait as I was right down the street and looking for a nail salon to stop at on my way home from work. The man told me there was no wait. 3 minutes after I hang up with him I walk into the salon and am told it will be a 30 minute wait because I didn't make an appointment. I was never told an appointment was needed, I was told there was no wait on the phone, in which I even responded with "oh great, thank you!" clearly implying that I was going to stop in. The man tells me I can wait and they can take me if someone doesn't show up. Ridiculous. Then he tells me it would be $48 for an acrylic fill with gel polish! He started making up random charges that they add on, charges that I have never heard of in the 5+ years I've had acrylic nails. This place is an absolute joke. Don't waste your time or money! Such a rip off, and awful customer service. Clearly, I will never step foot in there again. I advise you to do the same. read more

DO NOT EVER GO THERE FOR ANYTHING! I have never been so appalled at the quality of work, the service, or the managerial response. My fiance went in for a manicure and the beautician destroyed her nails. They are clearly scratched and damaged to the point where it will take a significant amount of time to heal. Prior to this manicure her nails showed no signs of damage or wear. In addition, the one time I went in for pedicure, I received such a poor quality of service that I would have been better of clipping my toenails at home with scissors. There was little to no cuticle trimming. And the staff was horribly rude. To make matters worse, the owner/manager's (Sonny) response to my fiance and my complaints was appalling. He refused to even listen to our complaints, and was in general rude and dismissive. So in conclusion, if you want terrible service, poor quality work, and to be treated rudely, this is the nail salon for you. Otherwise, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! read more

I LOVE this place! Lovely Nails & Spa is amazing. They have such a friendly staff and it's an inviting atmosphere. All the girls are nice and they take their time. Lee is my go to nail technician and she's just the best! In general they have great service, give extra long massages, and have a large selection of nail polish colors, both regular and gel. They're also great when it comes to getting my eyebrows done. I also love how clean it is. Everything is sterilized, neat and organized. I'm writing this review from a different salon down the road. Very bad front of house. Walked in without an appointment, saw the pedicure seats were full but figured it wouldn't be long of a wait. the receptionist didn't make mention of a long wait to me or any of the other ladies that walked in after me. one lady walked in 15minutes after me and made an appointment for 15minutes from that moment. she ran an errand and came back at that appointed time and they called her next. I mentioned that there were 3 ladies that came in before her that were waiting longer. most of the blame falls on this inconsiderate woman who felt her time was more important than anyone else's. But the job of a receptionist/ front of house is to pay attention to stuff like that. I walked out...no matter how awesome their services could have been it doesn't make up for not communicating a potential long wait or taking customers out of turn. read more

This place is very clean and big, so that is a plus. But the service is just sub-par. I called for an appt on a Friday evening and they were able to fit me in at 6:45 so I could go with my friend. I specially told the person on the phone that I wanted a full set (acrylic) done and she said they could. I get there and my manicurist, Kathy, is very nice and sweet. I guess there was a mix up and she thought I was doing just a regular manicure, so she had to put all the tools and water away. She was gracious about it though. I found it strange that she did not cut my cuticles and went straight to filing down my nails. I have gotten acrylics many times before, and I'm almost certain my cuticles were always cute beforehand. Anyway, I was sitting next to a sweet older lady who chit chatted with me and our manicurists. But this is where it gets a little uncomfortable. The manicurists go off on a full blown convo in Vietnamese about this lady, right in front of her. Dropping her name and everything! I was quite embarrassed because I'm Vietnamese and understood everything they were saying. I didn't think that was nice at all. My manicurist was anxious to get out the door since I was her last customer on a Friday night, and I don't blame her. But I am paying for a service here. I will give them props for having seche vite top coat- it's the best. When I was done with my mani, which wasn't bad, I went to sit under the drying machine. As I was waiting for my nails to dry, I noticed a sign on the counter that said they don't want people to give tip on a card, that they actually 'prefer cash'. I was totally turned off by this. Now don't get me wrong, I've seen plenty of nail salons with these signs, but they stop at just saying there is no tip line on the card, but I have never seen one that basically demanded the tip in cash. Not a good look, Lovely Nails. I give this place 2 stars for the cleanliness and wide range of services, and 1 for just having a nice manicurist. Went in in June 11th to get a full set of UV nails. I had to wait 20 minutes because not a lot of the girls do nail enhancements I'm sure. Fine. I get a girl with no smock on and her headphones in attached to her phone. She starts my nails, about 10 mins in walks away and puts a smock on (no name tag), the comes back and asks me if it's okay that she be on the phone during my service. Are you kidding? It's a spa! But what am I gonna say? She just about finishes my nails all the way down to the buffing. Then looks at them with visible lifts around the edges and covers the areas with more gel. As if it was going to disguise the horrible job. She paints them, and I look although the shape was nice as well as the painted French, about 8 of the 10 nails were already lifted. It's totally unacceptable and I would of made her re do them but I had to get to work. I gave myself two hours for the service, which only should of taken an hour tops. I have had decent services in the past there but this time I will never be back. $53 for nails that lasted me 5days before they started to catch on things and I had to remove them. I don't know the nail techs name but she had a blue floral face mask while she did my nails, and was very un professional! read more

I made the biggest mistake of coming there in stead of my regular Top Coat Nails ( in Legacy Place, cause they were super busy, and couldn't take me right away). Lesson learned. I have been a customer at this salon for since I moved to Hyde park/Dedham 3 years ago. Today was my last day. I was 10 minutes late for my appointment(personal reasons) and was pretty much scolded by the front desk person Missy as if she were my mother. She was loud and rude, clearly she wanted the whole salon to hear. I understand that it is a business and time is money; there's a way to go about things and I felt that she wanted to make an example out of me. Her attitude is hot and cold on certain days which is not good for someone who is supposed to be the first point of contact for customers. I was there about a week and a half ago and got a particular gel color which I KNOW they had two of. The tech was assisting me and trying to convince me to get another color. Last I checked I am the customer and I want what I want. I asked if she could check the tables as they have had colors there or on the pedicure carts in the past. She gave me an attitude and was dismissive and talking trash in her language. I know because as I was looking back at them everyone was staring at me, even Missy trying to be sneaky talking about me. I was so close to telling them about themselves but it was too early for that and I refused to let them get me out of character. I simply left and went elsewhere. The service was superb where I went. Although they didn't have the color I wanted they took the name down and said they would order it for next time and did not make me feel as if I was being a bother. And they assisted me with getting a color I would like. The owner/manager here should do a customer service workshop. It is essential to running a successful business. No one should have to tolerate anyone else's attitude especially where they are going to get serviced. Good day read more

I was in the salon today with some of my clients. They are in wheelchairs and have disabilities. I believe the receptionist came to the door. She didn't even let us get into the salon just to say it was fully booked. She was also quiet about her approach like she knew what she was doing. The receptionist had an attitude and she needs to learn some hospitality. We were not asked what service we wanted just turned away. Other woman were let into the salon with no issues and not turned away. I called this afternoon and services were all the sudden available.That is discrimination and it is illegal. I have contacted Hank Ryan of channel seven news to let her know of their business practices. I will not personally be doing business with their salon in the future. I will not let friends or family come to that business either. The worst experience in a nail salon I have ever had. I will never go back to this salon ever again. This is one of the nicest nail salons I've ever been to. The atmosphere is so clean and relaxing and the nail technicians were friendly and courteous. They did an amazing job. I got the regular pedicure and they provided a salt bath soak, lotions, a thorough scrubbing off of dead skin, and a hot stone massage. If a "regular" pedicure was this good, I can't even begin to imagine how good the "spa" pedicure is! Polish was applied perfectly and with the 15% discount, I only paid $20 which a great deal for the Boston area. I was very impressed and am going back to try their waxing services as well! read more

I have been to this nail salon several times and the customer service has always been terrible. The only thing that brought me back was because the location was convenient. Everytime I go with my friend, they insist to seat us apart because the technicians have assigned seating and apparently they can't EVER find two technicians who can do our nails at the same time. This last time I went, they literally seated us on opposite ends. When I tried to speak to my friend once, a man came over to me with a piece of paper and he circled: "please don't talk loudly or make noises or disruptions. "The man refused to say the words, he just pointed to it and made me read it. Afterwards I didn't say a word, worried I might offend the salon. I told the receptionist afterwards on my way out that I was offended by that mans action and that if they don't want me to talking to my friend then maybe they should consider putting a sign up saying that people can't talk in the salon OR not seat is on opposite ends. She proceeded to say that it's written in the brochure and we can't seat people together, "you're here to get your nails done," were her exact words. Getting my nails done is a social thing for me and I purposefully go to socialize with my friend and catch up on my day. Afterwards, we told the woman that we would be writing a review on yelp and she proceeded to follow me and my friend out the door to yell, "and you never tip our ladies..." I have NEVER not tipped the ladies, and that day specifically I did not tip because I was so angry with the service. Been to Lovely Nails and Spa about 4 times now. Love,love, love this place. Hannah has been doing my eyelash extensions and have had my nails done as well. My lashes look gorgeous! I was a loyal patron of this salon for many years. I waited a few weeks before posting my review so that I had a chance to think about how I wanted to relate my terrible experience. Sonny, the owner, has no business dealing with customers. He has ZERO customer service skills. If you dare to question anything he immediately gets defensive, nor makes any attempt to fix complaints. (Missy and a few of the techs are lovely people so I feel bad slamming their place of employment.) All he cares about is shuffling people in and out as fast as possible. I would rather light my money on fire than give it to this greedy awful man. He waters down all the polishes with acetone b/c he is cheap. The staff is petrified of him. Several have stopped talking mid-sentence during a service as he walked by their station. Some serious bad boss vibes often were relayed to me through different techs in whispers. I digress- I made an appointment, arrived early and people who arrived well after were quickly ushered in ahead of me. When I questioned it b/c I had been sitting there for 20 minutes past my appointment time he told me that they had " requested " someone. When I "dared" to inquire how this was fair as I had an appointment as well and had arrived before the other women he got annoyed with me and gave me excuse after excuse. Never offered any apology. Please do yourself a favor and don't give this man ANY business. Sonny doesn't deserve your hard earned money! Great customer service is essential to any business and Sonny misses the mark completely. read more

I really like this place so far, I've been a few times. It is really nice inside and they do a bunch of extra touches on just a regular pedicure - hot stones, paraffin on your heels at the end, etc. It can be kind of loud and you can hear everything anyone says since it's one big room - so if you have loud neighbors it's no so relaxing. They also have two chairs for pedicures for little girls which are very cute but means there's been kids there every time I've been there - some quiet and some not so much. I've seen people complain about a wait when I've been there but it's never been that bad for me. read more

I don't know how I let my sister talk me into going back to this place. I have had bad experiences here before and had vowed never to go back. But my sister insisted. Sadly, I can not say my experience this time around was any better. I walked in with long, nice looking nails and when I left, they were way too short, bleeding from one of my cuticles, and a french manicure that was wider on the right hand than on the left. I will not make this mistake again. And neither will my sister... who also was totally unsatisfied with her nails. Would not recommend this place when there are so many higher quality salons around. Last time I was here the technician cut my nail so badly she was unable to apply polish to it. Of course, this was two days before my wedding so really not great timing. The technician laughed awkwardly as she applied ointment to try to stop it, which I felt was unprofessional. I returned the next day to get the nail painted and was told I had to wait as there were people with appointments ahead of me. Well, I did have an appointment - the day before - and only had to return the next day because of their mistake. I was shocked by lack of service. Furthermore, both the pedicure and the gel lasted barely a week so I had chipped nails for most of my honeymoon. read more
