Although we've visited many times before (usually good), tonight was the worst experience at a restaurant in years. On arriving they let us know that there was a 20 minute wait. 20, 30, 40, minutes go by, nothing seems to be moving. I understand Fridays are busy, and there was apparently entertainment later, but it was dragging. It took almost an hour to get seated and then another 10, 15, 20... till we were even acknowledged. The way the waitress seemed disinterested when she finally stopped by made me walk out after wasting an hour and a half. Don't think I'll be back after this terrible visit. read more

I've only been here once but have heard many great things for many years now. I went for a trivia night and they have a great late night menu. I ordered the fizzle fries which were pretty addicting. They're just skinny fries but they're seasoned deliciously and I just really enjoyed them. They have a decent beer list and trivia was very fun. It began and ended on time which is a huge plus for me and it was just very fun. I will be going back, especially for a music day. read more

Go see a show. I have seen a couple shows here, and I am a huge fan. Beer: Not a huge list, but always awesome and varied choices. Love seeing what they have when I go, and they always have something I've never tried. Food: I'm a vegetarian, and I always get fed happily. They dropped the portabella burger from their menu, which was my favorite. But they still have the eggplant parm panini, veg ramen, and other good choices. Service: Here's where it bumps up to four stars. The staff are able to deftly serve hot and delicious food during a rock show like they were ninjas. You won't go hungry or thirsty while rocking, and your show won't get interrupted. Rochester has a ton of little concert venues, but this one has found a way to be special. read more

I am in from out of state, stopped on a whim...usually how I find places I like (if the locals don't recommend something first). I was starving 3am wake up, 6am flight, connection put me in about noon and starving! First thing I saw the soup of the day sweet potato jalapeño cheddar...sold. The menu had a variety of sandwiches, burgers, salads etc. I ended up settled on half a panini and the soup of the day. Full bar and coffee bar...pretty much seems like the place to get it all! As I waited I observed the vibe. Good variety of tunes, the staff knew and greeted the regulars as they came in the door. Food came and it was everything my tastebuds had hoped for. Eggplant Parm on a panini?? Who'da thought? It may be a place I come in the afternoons to work while I am here, there is a full bar and coffee bar. Before I begin my review, every past experience I've had at Lovin' Cup was pretty good. Food has always been great, great service. But the last experience I had at Lovin' Cup was by far one of the worst customer service experiences I've had at a restaurant in a long time. I went to Trivia Night last Wednesday. Trivia was great! My table ordered our food as per usual. I ordered a hamburger, medium rare, and my girlfriend ordered a wrap. After every other person at our table received their food, I decided to go up to the bar and ask about the status of our order. They stated the kitchen was backed up due to trivia night. Understandable. Then the table of 6 sitting behind us who ordered 10 minutes after our table received all of their food. The final straw that broke the camels back was when the 6 other people with our party finished their meals before we even received ours. Since our waitress avoided us the entire night, I once again had to go up to the bar and request the status of my order. Once again, the kitchen was backed up. We did eventually receive our food, but once we did, my food was bloody, and her wrap was poorly made. The only conclusion we came to was that our order was never placed and eventually thrown together one of the times I checked at the bar. Even if the waitress stopped by and said, "Sorry about your order is taking a little bit. I'm sorry about the inconvenience." That would've been reasonable. But instead she passively avoided our table and then brought us very bad food. I am truly disappointed in Lovin' Cup. I expected more out of a restaurant that has done so well in the past. read more

This was our first experience here, and we really enjoyed it! This cute coffee shop/ restaurant has a fair-sized menu, with lots of sandwiches, paninis, and burgers. They have daily specials, including a latte of the day. There is lots to look at, and it was quite busy when we were there. I had a burger, which was cooked well and came with a side of shoestring fries. My husband had a curried chicken salad sandwich that came with chips. They offer soda, a full bar, and a variety of local brews. They have a children's menu as well. Our waitress was very nice, and helpful as well! I would definitely stop back in here! read more

The Lovin' Cup is wheelchair accessible, with ample free parking, some wheelchair height tables, and an accessible men's room. My main reason for going to the Lovin' Cup is the music. I go when there is Irish Music, but they have all kinds. The food is also good. I particularly like the "Sweet Jane", an appetizer with sweet potato fries and delicious honey mustard jalapeno mustard sauce (not hot but tasty). read more

I have been here a few times with friends- the food is always delicious and the service is always great! I had a cup of their soup of the day on my last visit which was cauliflower cheddar and it was delicious! Their paninis and soups are good as well as their buffalo chicken sandwich. So I was reading my original review from 2014 and noticing that some issues remain the same. The one constant is the food even through all the menu changes. It's really pretty good. I can always find 3 or 4 options that I can make vegan which is a big plus. The grain bowl was outstanding, easily the best I've had. One of the major problems here is the dining area to the right of the main entrance. The room is just unpleasant in all of its iterations. It's cold and uncomfortable and now filled with really uncomfortable high top tables. Nothing in the room goes together, and I don't mean in that cool eclectic sense. I mean in that leftovers from a bad garage sale sense. It's far from a welcoming atmosphere. When we ate there yesterday there was some sort of show going on so we couldn't sit in the main dining area. On the way to be seated the hostess was stopped by another employee and we had to stand there while they had a conversation. When we were seated at the high top the hostess said that she'd switch us to a four top when one opened. One opened before we'd even been served. She seated another party there. The service took forever, probably because of the show but come on, we were probably there for 40 minutes longer than we needed to be. Long wait for water to arrive, longer wait to order and longer still to be served and get the check. On top of that I lost count of the times the server called us "girls" or honey or any other disrespectful term. By far the worst experience I've had in the many years I've been coming here. So four stars for the food. No more than one for everything else. read more

This place has really gone downhill. The food is okay but everything else isn't. I called ahead to ask for a booth in the main dining area and was told they don't take reservations unless it's a party of 6 or more - okay, no problem. They told me a couple of booths were still available so we set off to (hopefully) grab one. When we got there, we were instantly told to pay $5 for "the band." The stage was setup but there wasn't a band playing. Moreover, there was almost no one in the dining area. I told him I had called ahead to try and get a booth in the main dining area (the other section of the restaurant is extremely bright and has no booths). No one mentioned over the phone there would be a $5 charge just to sit in the main dining area. We then got ID'd so they could stamp us - first they read my ID and stamped my hand, then proceeded to read my girlfriend's ID. The guy takes out a permanent marker and tries to put an "X" on her hand since she was, to our surprise, underage, despite having just read her ID which clearly shows her to be over the legal age. After a brief argument, he said "Well it's dark so I read it wrong." He did end up giving me my $5 back, probably because he felt embarrassed or recognized our poor/awkward experience. We were eventually seated at a booth. The "band" never actually played; instead they did sound checks for 10 minutes and proceeded to eat nachoes at a table with their presumed family/parents. Half of the band looked to be under 18. So for those who did pay the $5 upon entering, I have no idea what they paid for. By the time we left, only one guy with a guitar was playing. He was just finishing his first song as we left the restaurant. The service was not good. The waitress came to our table a total of three times. She was very inattentive and practically ignored us. The food was the only redeeming part of our experience, although it's extremely overpriced (expect to pay around $14+ for a burger or sandwich). read more

Pros: When I emailed the owner to ask whether the veggie burger was vegan, she said it wasn't vegan, but she kindly offered to prepare a special vegan version for the meeting I would be attending the following week: So that was nice of her. Cons: A total of eleven email messages back-and-forth were required to negotiate the preparation of two vegan burger patties (the concern was that I wouldn't show up to buy the burgers, and then the pre-made patties would be wasted). I don't want to seem ungrateful, but... did it have to be that difficult? Also, why not have some vegan options and explicitly list them right on the regular menu (as is becoming fairly common these days)? read more

Once in a great while, a restaurant prepares a single dish, which despite numerous sub-par menu offerings, single-handedly propels that establishment to greatness. Everything else (the atmosphere, the service, the bathrooms, etc.) fades into the distance and what remains is one, isolated memory that shapes your whole perception of your dining experience. One such divine dish is a regular menu item at Lovin Cup, located within RIT's Park Point development. The appetizer, which is now among my Top 5 all time favorite dishes in Rochester, is a brilliant combination of a Western New York favorite and a classic southern comfort food. To my knowledge, there is no where else in Rochester that you can get this dish and once you try it, you'll be thinking about it for days. What is it? DEEP FRIED PORK (yes, pork!) WINGS Aptly named "Pigs on the Wing," these culinary gems combine the convenience and noshability of classic Buffalo wings with the utter decadence and lip-smacking fattiness of pork ribs. While there were four different sauces to choose from, my purist palate selected the traditional buffalo sauce. To describe this dish as the perfect bar food is a gross understatement of Pigs on the Wing's greatness. To describe them as possibly the worst food in history for your heart is probably accurate. No one in their right mind would make this dish in their own home, let alone a restaurant, and that's what makes it special. The exterior has the same crispness that you would get from the skin of a perfectly fried chicken wing. The interior, however, melts in your mouth the way a slow-cooked, fall-off-the-bone rib does as soon as it touches your tongue, coating your entire mouth with melted collagen and liquefied pork fat. Unlike chicken wings, these pork wings have none of the sinew, veins, or chewy knobs of cartilage that you must navigate around in order to find an edible chunk of meat. Instead, they are ALL meat and when you are done, you're left with a single, clean bone to discard. Whoever is in charge of the food at Lovin' Cup should be inducted into the Culinary Hall of Fame, based on the size of his/her balls alone. Sure, the fondue lacked a lot of the accouterments to which I'm accustomed and the pizza was lackluster at best, but those things seem like flimsy tree branches trying to block out the blinding light emitted by that glorious pork dish. While I thought the modern, jazzy atmosphere was really, really cool and the service was great, I have to admit I would probably eat Pigs on the Wing out of a giant particle board box with the word "Resterunt" spray painted on the side and still give the place four stars. I'm just glad, for my heart's sake, that Lovin Cup isn't within walking distance of my house. read more

I had just flown into town to visit my friend and her family. She suggested this place, decent menu options and kiddo friendly. Lunch hour wasn't busy at all, and ordered up a few coffees. Our waitress wasn't as attentive to our needs, and at times I thought she forgot about us. I only ordered a regular cup of a coffee, and even after being brought the cup, the cream and sugar took another 10 minutes. The coffee by then was bathwater warm and unenjoyable. We ordered up a few sandwiches and fries; wrappers delight which was a pretty basic turkey and cheese. I wasn't impressed and I'm not sure whether or not this place even has potential. Maybe the locals enjoy a good open mic night with plenty of booze involved and thats what gives this place the star rating it currently has. read more

I've never liked lovin cup because a while back the waitress spilled my drink on my lap and never cared or helped out. Simply said she was sorry and left. But I decided to give it another shot. And I can remember why I never went back. The worst part of all; we had a birthday girl among us. Keep in mind the waitress knew this since the beginning. Waitress forgot her order and didn't realize until explicitly told. Additionally my friend asked for no cheese and the waitress brought the plate with cheese. Waitress responded with a snotty "you didn't say that but I'll get it fixed up for you". Even though my friend did clearly ask for no cheese. Another friend issued an order to go. And the order came on a plate. When the waitress was reminded that it was to go, she again dismissed us by saying she didn't say that and that my friend wanted a To go box to go with it. Finally some people ordered coffee and drinks. Only the drinks came out and the coffee never did. Oh sugar on top, she didn't issue water refills until checks were out. We constantly felt like we were getting talked down to. And yet again lovin cup consistently delivers such a unpleasant experience. read more

I have to stop coming here. Every time it gets worse and worse. Actually, that's not true. It reached rock bottom at a beer tasting in September. Apparently, it was the owner's birthday. That's cool for them. What's not cool is making it a birthday party at their regular beer tasting and charging me $18 to go. I'm talking relatives and friends making toasts. There wasn't even a brewery there... they just gave samples of what was on tap... and had people read things they printed off the internet. "This is... um.... an India Pale Ale- OH! That's what IPA stands for! I haven't ever tried this but it's not bad! Enjoy!" and then later his young nephew was like "I love you uncle!" on the microphone... it was incredibly awkward (not to mention lame) for our party of 14. Then, last night... they had a holiday beer tasting. Sounds awesome! 13 beers! We got there at 7pm- they were sold out. We asked to be put on the waiting list. SURE! They said. I checked back in at 8:05 (it started at 8)... ol' girl said she'd find us if there were spots! 8:40pm comes around- they announce there are 2 tickets left and whoever gets to the table first gets them. A truly unique and fun bar/coffee shop/live music venue in Rochester. First off, Leslie and Erik (owners/managers) are ingenious marketers with a grueling work ethic. So you've got that. But add in an awe-inspiring iron wine rack, beautiful bar with craft beer, great food, sweet events and live music - there's really something for everyone. Too frequently, places like Lovin Cup that try to do everything at once aren't successful. Not in this case. This is the best coffee shop-bar fusion in Rochester, hands down no contest! Check it out. Probably my favorite place in Rochester. I have been going to this place since they opened a few years ago. Wines, food, great beers and live music. It is the perfect place to go and hang out with friends or even to go and do some work during the day. They also have great coffee and desserts that go well with them. Some nights they have latin music and live bands, which is rare to find in Rochester. It is always crowded during those nights, but is always a great time. If you are in Rochester, looking for a good venue where people are cool and diverse, please go and try some of the good beers or wines they always have available. read more

I have been here a few times, and each time has been a little more disappointing than the previous. My first experience was great! There is a variety of reasonably priced food, and the atmosphere is great. From that first time, we get to when we went over the weekend. We came to Lovin' Cup because there was no wait on a Saturday night at 6pm (which should have clued us in). However, it still took an hour to get our food! The place wasn't even packed. One order was wrong and had to be sent back due to an allergy issue. My order, roast beef au jus, came without the au jus, and was very, very salty. I didn't finish it. When the au jus did finally come out after we requested it, the waitress set it (steaming hot) right in front of my baby. We had to wait in 15 minute intervals to get a glimpse of our waitress to try to ask her for anything, like ketchup. We ended up going to the bartender and asking instead. Unfortunately, the food isn't worth the hassle and we probably won't be back for a meal (maybe for coffee), even though the location is nice. read more

Food is delicious and reasonably priced. The Hot For Teacher is what I've gotten twice and I love it. The tomato, spinach feta soup is so good we always get a pint to go, too! I'm normally not a coffee person, but the Instant Karmal is addicting. After living in Rochester for a year and a half I regret not finding this place sooner! This dimly lit bistro indulges all the senses. Local talent takes the stage nearly every night to perform to a mixing-pot of people amped up on wickedly strong esspresso or wine and beer. I love the ever-changing local artwork that decorates the earth-tone walls. The staff here rocks, and sometimes literally (Willie plays a mean Keytar). Although it's part of the RIT campus the place doesn't often swarm with college students, but instead brings in all walks of life. I've met musicians, teachers, and lawyers there all in the same night. If you check out this place (which you should), I recommend not getting the esspresso past 9pm - it will keep you up until 7 in the morning! - but I do recomend trying Kind, the 3 Head Brewing Company beer on tap. It's the best new local frothy goodness - trust me. read more

Have you ever been to Ed Debevic's in Chicago? The wait staff is uber hip and intentionally sassy. Perhaps the the wait staff at Lovin' Cup, feels they can behave similarly. They are tragically mistaken, however, ED staff actually invests energy in appearing not to give a hoot. The staff at Lovin' Cup don't even bother to try. I've given the Lovin' Cup three tries. Each visit the service was the same: nonchalant, unhelpful, disinterested. Oh, dear tatted waitress: are you a frustrated musician? Can't make ends meet by playing at Roc bar? Trying to maintain an indie rockers facade, but feeling like you sold out, kinda, because you're a waitress? Guess what? I don't give a rat's heiny! Just do your job and serve my food when it's hot. Cold fries are worthless. The food is adequate, with a handful of vegetarian options. The atmosphere is inspiredly cool, and the live music can be great. My suggestion would be eat somewhere else, then get your brews and tunes at Lovin' Cup. read more
