I know we are in a pandemic but this store really is horrible. Our fridge gave out last week and after shopping around online and a recommendation from my brother we decided to order from Lowe's. As this is our first hone we are new to buying appliances. The fridge was to be delivered on Saturday, we checked online and called the 800 number and was told it would be here between 11:30-3:30. So we stayed home cleared a path for the delivery and cleaned any surfaces they would touch. At 3:45 no calls no delivery, we call the 800 number again and were told the Northbrook store is fulfilling the order and to contact them directly. Understandably the store is busy and we wait on hold for 20 minutes, finally the associate looks up the order and says it was cancelled and someone should have called us already. He said they did not have in stock. So we inquire about a refund and directed back to the 800 line, we finally speak with someone there who stated they had 19 in stock at the distribution center that should have been pulled to fulfill our order, again we inquire about a refund, the rep says to call the store. During this we do get a call from the store but it is to offer other fridges they have in stock, which are all smaller and not even the same color, the best part though was we would have the pay the difference. At this point we are fed up, we placed that order DAYS ago, why would someone tell us it was cancelled. We tell the associate not interested just want a refund. Finally another 2 hours later the store calls again that they found the fridge on them pad of dock, the delivery truck must have forgot it. I mean we already ordered from another company as we were told it was cancelled! So now they are coming Tuesday with the fridge apparently so we'll see what comes first the fridge or our refund. read more

Lowe's in general is great. I just had to post this review because one of the cashiers pissed me off today. I'm waiting in line for a self-checkout when Cashier 9 says "you can come over to 9 and 10!" So, I figure why not? The guy at 10 was already paying and almost done. Cashier 10 was talking to the customer for about a minute or two and waits until the customer finished paying to tell me that he's closing. I literally had two bags of seeds in my hand. I couldn't understand why he didn't just finish with me. But whatever, so, I'm like, "Ooookay..." I ran back to the self-checkout. It literally took me a minute to pay. I bagged my seeds and walked towards the exit. My friend who was waiting for me said, "Look, the guy on 10 turned his light on after you left -- he's open now." WTF is that about? read more

We recently purchased a dishwasher from this location. During installation, we noticed that the outer handle of the dishwasher was blocking one of the kitchen drawers from opening so we went back and asked Lowe's for another unit. We requested Zach, who was the original salesperson, to waive the first installation fee ($125) but he refused and gave all kinds of excuses - Lowe's is a large organization so it can easily take care of its clients. Zach could have at least waived the second installation fee given the fact that it was a big purchase and that it was not our fault that the machine didn't work with our kitchen layout. We were supposed to get credited for the first dishwasher within a few days (upon receipt of the other dishwasher at the warehouse). I was out of town for two weeks and noticed that the first dishwasher's return was not credited to my credit card account. That meant that I had two large purchases on my bill, and that I was being charged interest for both. I called Lowe's Customer Service once I returned to see where the credit was - There was no record of my return. The Lowe's Customer Service person that answered said that they understood the problem and that they would also take care of the first installation fee. However, when Stan the Northbrook store manager called us, he was not receptive and refused to credit the first installation portion even though their Customer Service rightfully offered. There was also no apology offered, even though I mentioned the fact that I was getting charged interest on my credit card for this. Stan said that he just needed my credit card number, which they should have had in the first place. These guys are unbelievable - I strongly recommend avoiding the Appliances section of the store. read more

Terrible experience. Drove 30 minutes for an online pick up, only to have to wait 15 minutes before someone showed up at the desk. Waited another 5 minutes, only to find out the product was damaged, and no more in stock. Even the return process took just as long. Terrible experience, never shopping at lowes again. read more

Went to Lowe's to purchase an appliance and was greeted by Zack. Nice guy to sell you something, but there is little to no follow through when needing information. Long story short, the wrong cord was brought on delivery (Zack rang it up wrong then tried to blame the delivery guys for bringing the wrong cord) so I refused the product. They were suppose to redeliver the next day but there was damage to the unit that was made on the way back to the store so I refused delivery and asked for a new product. After another two weeks, I called and Zack said the item was now on a 6-8 week back order (when was he going to call and tell me?) I went into the store to pick out something else that was in stock only to find out that the morning it was to be delivered there was damage to the unit as well. At that point I had enough. The only saving grace for this store (hence the extra star) is Tay in customer service and Nals the new store manager. When I went in to get my money back they completely understood and were apologetic of my experience. read more

This review is for our purchase back in Fall/2015. Spent lots of money for Lowes 2 store brand entry doors & 2 storm doors. Experience was terrible. Their store brand Reliabilt door is garbage! Problem # 1. One of our entry doors was missing a standard part, but I was given the run around from the salesman Ira who was advised by their own manufacturer the part wasn't needed. The salesman was totally useless and should've use common sense. Even other salesman agreed w/me. I decided to contact Lowes Corporate & the store mgr via email. Store mgr was willing come out to look at the door, and he indeed agreed w/me, yet the manufacturer still didn't get it....After speaking w/store mgr, he was willing kind enough to give me store credit for cost of the entire door. Problem #2. After the fiasco w/the bad missing door part, we than had closing issues with the other entry door..... The installer came out multiple times to fix the problem, that the installer caused. read more

I should have read these reviews before purchasing a vinyl fence through Lowe's. Worst experience ever. Signed papers on April 23rd for a fence. After months of back & firth about when the fence would get delivered, it was put up on July 1st. Some crooked panels and fence not flush to my house. The worst part is there are still no post caps on my fence compromising its integrity. 14 days my fence had been up without them and filling with water each time it rains. All that water will freeze this winter and crack my posts by next spring. I'm still fighting with them to get those installed. Avoid Lowe's at all costs. As a single mom, a $5,000 project adds a strain to a tight budget. I feel like I was scammed and am already worried about fighting them when I have inevitable problems. I'll never use Lowe's again and will make sure people in my neighborhood are aware as they are looking to put up fences too. Really disappointed in this store. I bought a large tool chest in store on 11/27/18 and scheduled delivery for 11/28/18. They managed to sell the item to another customer later on 11/27/18. Go figure. It was a clearance item, so no hope to find another. I shop here around 25 times a year. Next trip might be in 2020 - I think they need a time out. read more

I'm in agreement with several (or more) people complaining about delivery/customer service. First, I opened a Lowe's business card, and instead of my actual name on the card, they put my business name which just so happens to be an address. I've never owned a credit card without my name on it, and think it's a bad idea. And when the mail comes, the first line on the envelope is an address, with my actual home address below that. Why? Why, Lowe's, would you do that? It's a matter of time before my mail gets misplaced. Next, I ordered a double bathroom vanity. The delivery was delayed one week because mine got damaged before delivery (seems like Lowe's loses tons of money on carelessness). Then, it got delayed another day and I had already cancelled an appointment so I could be home. The vanity finally came today. The day I bought the vanity, I asked the employee if the delivery men could get it up the stairs. "No problem." They have equipment to get it upstairs." The delivery guys did not work for Lowe's and at the front door told me there was no order for taking it up the stairs and did I want it sent back to the store? They did ultimately agree to take it upstairs, which looked pretty dangerous (there was no "equipment" to help them). The box was torn about 12 inches where 2 sides of the box met, yet the delivery guys would not open the box to check the condition of the vanity. If it turns out this one is damaged also, somehow it's going back down the stairs. This has been a very frustrating event. I will never, ever buy anything from Lowe's that has to be delivered. read more

It's so strange. We had to buy some wire shelving here and we were helped by a very accommodating gentleman named Dee. The next day we went back to get some more parts and equipment and you'd think the entire store had been transformed overnight. The people who helped us were obliging at best, but it was obviously not their preferred task. The selection of products is good and we have no quibble with prices. But they must treat staff poorly there, because that is what's reflected on the customer. They are aware that Home Depot is just down the block? read more

Wish I could give them zero stars. Employees here are rude and have a poor attitude about the place they work and towards the customers. Their online inventory system which lets you place orders for pick-up or deliver to your home is always wrong. I have now had to cancel two orders because of items not available. Hmmm...says 26 in stock online, I only need 11, and they only have 4. Great system! Store is also supposed to be open until 10:00, I called at 9:40 to talk to someone about an order and phone system says "store is now closed". Awesome customer service. Go to Home Depot. Stopped in to purchase and have installed a new Pella sliding patio door..Sales associate was eager and helpful. A Lowe's installer measured the door opening,and when I cam into the store to pay the $2800.00 for the door and installation..I was told everyone is at lunch come back in an hour or 2 and maybe someone might be available... I think that it speaks VOLUMES that LOWE'S has no replies to any of the complaints or issues that people put on this sight... Huge big box store that has no interest in customer loyalty... Placed the order online early in the morning and by 2:00 pm I spent time calling and nobody picked up the phone. When I finally got someone on the phone I was told they didn't have the item. I am utterly dissatisfied with the help I have received from Lowe's. I ordered $200 on lumber from Lowe's on April 21, 2020 and set a delivery date of June 3, 2020 so that I could line up workers at my property in Chicago to help me build some privacy fences. At the time of order, I was informed that I would receive a call with a 4 hour delivery window which is tough on me because I don't live at the building (not even a bathroom available) but I agreed because I can't haul the wood myself so the $60 charge and 4 hour window was worth it. However, I got an email a few days ago saying my lumber would be delivered on June 3rd from 8 am to 8 pm! I have spent hours trying to get through to the Fulfillment Center to find out when exactly my order will be delivered. Finally heard from one guy who said the order was not even going to be delivered tomorrow (so not sure if I need to cancel my workers lined up for the 4th) and the only other person I got through to after being on hold for over an hour (TWICE) told me she would call me back once she had more information. Well, it is 2 1/2 hours since then and I did not receive a call back in 20"s is promised and once again when I call the Fulfillment Center in Northbrook I can't get a human to pick up the phone despite trying various options! This is unacceptable. Oh, and yes, BTW I noticed that they have indeed already charged me! This is not acceptable. read more

Lowes/Northbrook. - Worse customer service ever. In Dec, I ordered window treatments. .I used an installation co. recommended by Lowes. Took a few weeks to get on their schedule and when one guy cam out I felt his measuring wasn't correct and went back to Lowes. Christy said they have had issues with this one particular installer and scheduled another. Finally got measured for what I thought was correct and was able to place the order. Now instead of a 2 weeks wait they were behind and it too much longer. I understand the backup. Treatments finally came in, installer was scheduled and everything was done. When installed I mentioned to the installer that they material was wrinkled. He said it's ok and that he wouldn't recommend steaming because it could burn the material. I then went back to Christy and she sent him out again to steam. The installer was not happy and I was not comfortable with his attitude. I also noticed that the drapes were not even and asked him about it. He came up with a story. The wrinkles did not come out and Christy came out to my place and confirmed the wrinkles were there and shouldn't have been and the treatments were not even. Conclusion was that he measured from the molding and not ceiling. Christy had to turn this over to John the department head. John was responsive at first and then disappeared. They had the nerve to schedule a delivery of the remade treatments without my knowledge. I then called and spoke to the assistant store manager who guaranteed to get to the bottom of this and call me back. I never heard from him again and yet received a call from the installer that he was on his way to install the treatments that I didn't' even have. I am now stuck with window treatments that are wrinkled and uneven. It has been almost 7 months since I was in Lowes and started this order. I hope to never ever step foot in Lowe's again and want to seriously warn others about the same. read more

Lowe's is slightly more expensive than Menards and equal in price to Home Depot. I spend about $10K across all three each month so I count myself as well informed. The differing factor for me is that Veterans get 10% off so it actually brings it back down to Menards pricing. The kids program here is far better in quality than Home Depot but the people at Home Depot are slightly nicer. The quality and selection of stuff (lighting, flooring) is better than Menards or Home Depot. I would give them a strong 3 stars but the 10% off for Veterans puts it in at 4. read more

A nightmarish twilight zone experience today; we went in for some shade grass seed and were directed by an employee to aisle 27; another employee there recommended Penington one step complete which had an everyday low price of $12.47; he pointed out a large banner which provided 30% off memorial day pricing for Penington complete so we decided to buy two. When we get to the checkout the product rings up at $12.47. The sale associate insists that must be the sale price; he calls someone over who acknowledges that the Penington is on sale but doesn't know the price; I go back to aisle 27 and see the sale banner again (should have taken a picture of it but who would know?) and confirm the "Every day low (non-sale) price. We go back up to the counter and the sales associate calls ANOTHER associate who comes up; we go back to Aisle 27 with him and NOW the sale banner is missing! We've spent thousand of dollars on washers, dryers, lawn mowers and every day products in the past, but this is the second dishonest encounter in the recent past and the most egregious. So no more Lowes for us. read more

Ordered a dryer online Friday afternoon for some reason this store received my order. Not sure why as I live in Arlington Heights. I get a call from an employee named Tanisha that proceeds to tell me they don't have my dryer and she's canceling my order... I asked her why wouldn't they just check another store and see if they could ship it out from there. Well I was told this wasn't her problem. Lol!! I asked to talk to a manager and I got an assistant manager who was no more help but at least wasn't rude to me. I've decided to spend my $800.00 elsewhere. Wow. Do not shop here!!! Ordered an oven in September, and as told that delivery would take 2 weeks. The day before the delivery, I get a call that they are out of stock and it will take a month for the next delivery... Ok. So I agreed to receiving it now in November. The day before the delivery, again I receive a call that they are out of stock and the soonest delivery available will be at the end of January! What the fuck. First of all, why does it take so long for the store associates to give me a heads up about this order? Not very professional. I don't understand why this store doesn't care about losing sales or customer satisfaction. Who knows how long I would have to wait again to receive this order. Lowes is awesome -and so is Tom in the refrigerator and appliance department. I used to shop at another well known store in the area but my experience at Lowes has been better -honestly. Three years ago, I needed a new washing machine - the other shop said it would take 2 weeks to get one ! (Pre-Covid ) Faced with a massive amount of family laundry and already a three hour Jaunt to a now closed Wilmette laundry spot, I knew i needed a different answer. On a whim, I called Lowes at willow at Waukegan in northbrook . The fellow who helped me couldn't have been nicer. He told me to pop in and survey the selection. I did and the next DAY I had a new machine delivered! Fast forward to this week. My 13 year old fridge from the 'other' place died. I had to throw everything out. The potential repair bill was &1,000. That seemed crazy. I called Lowes. A super guy named Tom answered. He was incredibly helpful. The next day around 2:00 pm I went into see Tom about a whirlpool fridge that was on special. He was extremely helpful - not in any way high pressure -and even helped me with an unrelated purchase in another department. About my fridge purchase, he went above and beyond on issues like my water line and the processing of my credit card over the phone --after I had gone home and triple checked the sort of dicey measuring and fit issue. He even hand delivered my receipt !!! Fast forward a day and a half later - today (a Sunday!!) My refrigerator has been expertly delivered and is in place and working. Thank you Lowes !! Came to get oscillating sprinklers for my newly laid sod with no problem. Then I wait for help to get those plastic things that go on the bottom of shower doors I think to prevent leakage and get gross over time. When I finally am able to speak to someone he does take me to the items which are too long. He shrugs his shoulders and said "you'll need to cut them down". I ask if I could get it done here ans yes I know I am paying for more than I need. Nope, can't do that. It's a Hardware store and not like they don't have the capability to do that. It was the attitude. If you're not able to provide customer service don't work with the public. This maintenance stuff was my husbands thing. Clyde and Zach, While I appreciate a good deal on a washer and dryer, please check the attitude if i call to check the status of my delivery. You should never lead with "Do you want your money back?"...ever. Don't ever say that unless you have exhausted every resource and person available to aid the customer. Your distribution center is only 4 hours away and you have no schedule of when trucks make rounds? Isn't Lowe's a premier organization and now you tell me "ah, maybe Sunday" (Zach). It's the principle of working with professionals that I desire above anything else and you have failed miserably. I suggest you stop misleading customers with "Free next day delivery" on your signs unless you add "if items are in store stock", not an asterisk mark, and DEFINITELY don't ever give a customer black and white receipt saying it is Next Day Delivery (with no asterisk marks!!!) after you have gone to great detail saying you are actually clueless as to when it will be delivered. I am blown away by the default in your attitude to be so defensive and posture an aggressive tone in every single word that has come out of your mouth. You seemed so nice in the store then flipped the script on the phone when all I wanted was to know when to expect my appliances. Just say you don't know and apologize for your incompetency. I don't need rants about how it's not your fault and you can give me my money back and the signs are misleading unless you see the fine print. read more

I went in just to get a drip pan for a water heater I bought at a much more reputable store that uses their own in house employed plumbers, rather than subcontractors like Lowe's does. Just asking a question about the drip pan, brought on a deceptive ploy to try and convince me to cancel my order with the other store, because they could sell me one cheaper. For the price comparison, they tried to trick me into thinking the price he gave me was equivalent to what I was getting from the other store, but the other store gave me a 9 year warranty on the water heater AND 9 years for labor, and his quote for only for 1 year labor. When I mentioned that fact, and that he was not giving a fair price comparison as I was getting more from the other store, he was disgusted that I didn't fall for his scam. But he kept at it, trying to convince me I was an idiot if I didn't get the water heater from Lowes instead. He then started to show me some sort of financial reports on Lowes from his computer, which had nothing to do with the question I had about the drip pans and had no interest in, and he got so angry that I didn't want to listen to his long winded financial report about Lowes, that he just rudely walked away in disgust. If this is the rude and disrespectful way the employees behave before you buy something, what would happen if I had a problem and needed them to remedy the problem they caused? Well, you can read the rest of the reviews here to find out! Not good! Then as someone else mentioned, there are ONLY self checkouts at this Lowes, and each self checkout has a creepy monitor that shows your face and that they are recording you with a camera. You have to step in front of it and be recorded in order to try and figure out how to check out yourself, as they don't want to hire any cashiers. After reading the other horror stories here about this particular store, I can say my installation with another store that was NOT Lowes, went on time, done right, and passed village inspection without problem. Glad I didn't try to save $50 in order to go through weeks of hell like everyone else here is complaining about! You get what you pay for! We renovated our home and spent a boatload of money at Lowe's. The last to-do was ordering and installing doors. We spent $4K on doors and expected to receive $4K worth of product and service. We were told the doors would arrive at the store within twenty-one days and would be installed fourteen days after arrival. Twenty-five days after our order date, we hadn't heard from Lowe's. I called for an update and they informed me it would be an additional five weeks until the doors would be installed for the simple reason that ONE door hadn't arrived. Their policy is that they will not schedule installation until all doors have arrived. The lack of communication and unapologetic customer service was completely unacceptable, which I clearly conveyed to them. They finally agreed to install the doors two weeks from the date of my phone call, then return to install the remaining door two weeks after its arrival. On installation day, the crew arrived and none of them spoke English. They dangled lit cigarettes from their mouths during installation, blowing smoke into our home. They dripped glue onto our hardwoods and didn't clean it up. They installed a storm door that was damaged, made our doorbell defunct, and didn't have the product we ordered and paid for to change the exterior door frame. When we tried to communicate this to the installer, he shrugged his shoulders and said, "Just paint it." That was his solution. Just paint the rotten wood around the door and disregard the fact that we spent money to have it replaced. I called the sales associate to relay this information and yet again was not afforded an apology, but was told I would receive a return call. Two days later, no returned call. I proactively contacted them and was told, "I'll advise install sales to get back to you." We waited 2.5 months for the final door to be installed and on installation day we were shocked to discover the sales associate ordered the wrong door configuration, a left swinging door and right stationary door -- which will not work with the configuration of the room. I left a message for the Lowe's store manager, but received a returned call from the original sales associate who told me, "Wow, you really made a big mistake." I. Didn't. Know. What. To. Say. When it was all said and done, I had spoken with Associate Ira, Installer Erich, Manager Brian, Manager Edie, and Manager Greg. This was an exhausting July-November experience. We waited an additional month for the correct doors to be installed and were given a $200 store gift card for the imposition. UPDATE: It's May and the installed storm door lock doesn't operate. I left a message for a Lowe's installation manager one week ago. No returned call. read more

I should have read reviews on Yelp before I went there. If I could, I would leave ZERO stars. I am closer to the Lincolnwood location; and I do most of my business/purchases there. They are very nice and always go above and beyond to help their customers. The Lincolnwood Lowe's exceed my expectations every time! However, when they sell out of items I need, I drive down to the next closest location, which is this one- Northbrook... All of the windows in the house have been replaced, except for this one. My sister and I decided to look into replacing a glass block window in the walkway by the front door. We spoke to a gentleman in the "Window" department just trying to get an idea how much the window plus installation would be. The price was a huge factor in the decision. There are about 6 different makers of the windows and the labor is about $150-$250. One of the windows we looked at was $168, which is a NON-functional, picture window. Because of the approximate price that was quoted to us, we agreed to have a "project specialist" come out to take a look at it. Finally, after 6 days of "phone tag", I made an appointment with Larry Belmont to come out take a look at it and make more precise measurements. When he showed up, he spent less than 5 minutes "looking" at the window. Then right before he left he told me that he will send me a detailed e-mail about my options for the window, including different companies of the windows and labor. A few days later, Roy came over to finalize the measurements. Larry called me a few minutes after Roy left and told me that he pretty much has all the numbers, he just need to talk to Roy to make sure they all are correct. By the end of the day, Larry sent me an e-mail with a scanned form in PDF format with my information, his information and a random window + labor number, which was $808.75. There were NO options for other companies windows, NO breakdown of the labor cost - there was just ONE price... I was dumbfound when I received that e-mail, so I called Larry and left him a 2 minute message asking him where the information that he originally promised, what is the breakdown of this price and why the price that we were quoted in the store is DOUBLE the price that he sent me. Larry NEVER called me back and just resent the PDF form with 2 additional numbers, which supposedly indicated the difference between the window and the labor. $237.29 for the window, WITHOUT even indicating which company he even self-chose for this price; and $571.46 for the labor WITHOUT the breakdown what they are charging that much money for labor. I was discussed it with the way I was disregarded by Larry and I never hear from him again. Several days later, I was in the area, so I stopped by the store to speak with the manager Hector Arlequin of the "Windows" department explaining my experience. Also, I told him that I am still interested in finding out the different prices of the windows for the 6 different companies and I still what the breakdown of what the charges of the labor for. I was assured by Hector that he will be contacting me in the next few days after he speaks to Larry. I was fine with that and was looking forward to finally get the information/breakdown that I was originally promised. I NEVER heard from Hector the manager. I did, however received the below noted misspelled and very unprofessional e-mail directly from Larry. The store is sorry that you were mis-informed on the price of your window install prior to having the PSE come to your home. The jeld-wen window that I priced for you was the most efficent and cost effective for your home. The cost of the labor to properly install this window that Lowe's will 100% stand behind is what the true difference between what you heard in the store and actual cost to install, this is another reason why I had the installer come out prior to me giving you a final price. There are alot of variables removing the glass block correctly along with downsizing the opening to properly install the new window. Upon further discussions with the store's management team we can deduct $108,75 off the total price to make it $700.00 total. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Extremely poor customer service! Waited 35 minutes to get paint mixed . This was after 2 pages to the department. As i watched several employees chatting at the register, walking around the store, and wandering in and out of the back room. Only for a young girl with an attitude to wait on me . I love this lowes store and the merchandise. But i was highly disappointed in the service, or lack there of that i received. It may be a while before returning to this location. read more

Online price shows discounted price. Went to store and saw discounted price tag. But seeing full price at checkout. Instead, I had to order online via GC for a pick-up to get discounted price. Very disappointed. I have been a Lowes customer many years. I bought a fridge and included installation and removing the other. They just told me that the seller misrepresented what they could do, lost a day of work and their response is we will reimburse you but will not proceed as promised. Terrible read more

product: 5 star... i bought a grill on black friday online... i needed a new one and lowe's happen to sell a very good quality grill that my wife & i liked it very much... it was $149.00 & they assemble it for free... i picked it up on a wednesday afternoon (11-28-12). customer service: 1 star.. horrible.. there was couple staff on the customer service area.. staff1 was helping me, she was nice.. she told me to wait couple minutes for it.. staff2 asked staff1 what i was picking up & she answered a grill (in a normal way, not funny, not joking, not mad, just straight answer).. staff2 started laughing like a sarcastic way and walk away.. now, to me that was rude.. i dont know if they have an inside joke or whatever; i dont care.. i dont know whats funny about it what she answered.. the way i see it is staff2 laughs about me buying/picking up a grill on november where people dont usually buy them.. i dont see anything funny about it.. if they sell it, people can buy it anytime.. i give them 2 star because staff3 help me put the grill in my car.. I want to commend this Lowes, their merchandise is more upscale than Home Depot overall, and the store is bright, large and clean. A special shout-out for Kathy Moran in kitchen counter department. She was very knowledgeable and helpful about countertops. I ended up not being able to use them as the slabs I wanted weren't quite what I thought, and she provided me with excellent customer service all the way through. If you need new counters, she is the person to see, Lowes is lucky to have her as an employee. read more

OK, I get that many of the people shopping here aren't on their lunch break, and maybe they have all afternoon to stand in line at the stupid self-checkout while the cashier who is supposed to be monitoring them goofs around with his friends, but that isn't me. The only lines open were self-checkout, which generally is fine. Unfortunately, one of my items wouldn't scan, and Mr. Observant was completely oblivious as he chatted away with his buddies. Seriously, I think they were juggling or something. WTH? Finally, another employee walked by, and summoned someone to help me - who had to walk right past the circus act going on to help me scan the stupid item. The other problem with the self-checkout is that they don't have those scan guns, which can read the codes for items that are too big or heavy to take out of your cart. I had one of those too, but of course the cashier walked away as soon as she scanned the first item, leaving me to then wait again for someone to help me scan the GIANT BOX in my cart. Nice, clean store. Prices are competitive with Home Depot. Always helpful when needed. There's a worker that is always there (no matter when I've been there). He's helped a few times get things into my car (it's a small car so a bit tricky). Overall, normal big box store. read more

This is the worst home improvement store location. I ordered a closet organizer three days ago for curbside pickup and went to pick it up today after getting the email saying it was ready. With two small children in the car, I called the curbside number 9 times, getting no answer. I tried both the curbside option and customer service option but could not get anyone on the line. Finally, after 29 minutes, I dragged my kids into the store to customer service, where I asked to speak to a manager. He could not speak because he was on the phone with another irate customer. I was told by an associate that they can't answer the phone because they get 300 orders a day and only have one person working curbside. So does that mean roughly 300 people a day have this same experience since they can't be bothered to answer the phones? If you can't properly staff curbside pickup, you definitely shouldn't be offering this service. What a disappointment. (In contrast, Vernon Hills Lowe's fulfilled the same order I placed for a second closet organizer within 3 hours, and it took 10 minutes from when I pulled into the parking lot to when I drove away with the organizer loaded in my trunk for me. Order placed the same day-seems like the Lowe's in Northbrook just has extremely poor management and staffing practices.) read more
