Definitely won't be going back. When we ordered, we were told it would be an hour. It was Friday evening and the place was packed so no problem. A server brought the side salad about an hour and fifteen minutes after we ordered. After one and a half hours, we asked a server to check our order and he said he'd put a rush on it. After another 30 minutes, our burgers and fries arrived. The food was okay (except the mustard vinigarette) but absolutely not worth waiting two hours for. The guy we asked about our order said the food would be comped but it wasn't. We didn't make a fuss because we ate the food plus it looked like the bartender couldn't care less. The beer selection and the back patio were solid. But that's the end of the positives. The whole ordering at the bar is odd and a complete inconvenience to the guest, especially when you are sitting outside. Why LL doesn't use web-app ordering like the rest of the world that doesn't offer table service, is beyond me. The food is rough. Not only do you have to wait in line at the bar to order, but the food was just bad. Kind of odd to order a burger and have it come out on a 5 inch plate by itself with nothing else - including fries, condiments, utensils or napkins. And since you have no server to help out, you're on your own. The place is just off. If you're a hipster willing to order, deliver and bus your own beer, this is your place. Been here three different times since grand opening thinking maybe third time was the charm. Spoiler: it wasn't. Mediocre food at best, but honestly it's the damn bar staff that falls short. Maybe they still haven't figured out their workflow since opening this spot, but it sure as hell doesn't work. A friend and I had high hopes for a fun lunch at Loyal Legion. Other friends really liked their HH so we thought we would try it for lunch. The possibilities for success are wonderful but for right now they need some help. Number 1....we figured out that you had to go to the bar to get a menu and order your food. We ordered our food but items we did not order were delivered. when we checked our receipts we realized they had been entered incorrectly. They have a huge selection of beers and you can order a half pour which is nice for people like me who don't want a 16 oz pour. There is a huge horseshoe bar and lots of cozy booths...but the food and consistency need to be addressed. It has the bones and location to be great! read more

Ambience is good, order from any seating area that is not at the bar is a pain making service while seated at the bar less ..biggest issue we've seen is very little effort made to wipe tables or maintain any cleanliness. Who goes to a bar at noon on a Friday? Well besides me apparently a lot of other people. This spots traffic on a weekday afternoon was impressive. Loyal Legion has taken the old bank building and transformed it into a great place to meet with friends, coworkers, and family alike! While busy the staff does a great job of making drinks and keeping the line moving. While we were there you order at the bar and they issue you a number for food but I do not know if they do table service later in the evening. The food we had was amazing whether it was pretzels, fries covered in bacon and cheese, or cauliflower bites there is something everyone will enjoy! The mixed drink options were amazing, while they also have a huge beer list. My friend did try to order an Irish coffee but unfortunately their coffee maker was broken, so that may be the only knock I have on this place. As a pro tip there is a parking lot behind bigs chicken that you can pay to use that is mere steps from the front door of loyal legion that is if you can't find free street parking. read more

Their food is pretty decent, I had the regular cheeseburger and it was surprisingly delicious. I wish I knew that Flora was upstairs, I didn't see any signage about it. We stopped in last night with our kids and some friends for dinner. We sat inside, it was a bit confusing and we looked confused, the staff saw us and didn't greet and explain how service works, they just looked at us. We did see a seat yourself sign, so we found a spot and ordered at the bar. Weird system, and every bartender we experienced had an attitude. Overall, the food was good, the beer was good, but the service sucked. We would potentially come back to visit the patio, but wouldn't go out of the way for it. read more

Nice place! The service was really great and the range of drink selection was ideal (lots of beer options, and upwards of ten different kinds of Old Fashioned). Loyal Legion is a tale of two experiences: good food and libations, but the service model is broken. Basically as a patron, you're on your own. It's a rugby scrum to find a table (first hover, first served). You have to go to the bar to order and are promptly told: drinks first. Food later. Staff is a mix: some are lovely; others entitled as if they are doing you a favor. My buddy and I sat at the bar and watched an endless stream of confused patrons walk up wondering what the protocol was (the laminated plastic signs were no substitute for someone actually greeting you and informing you of the drill). Sat with empty glasses for 20 minutes. Had to flag for service. Missed opportunities. This place has great atmosphere, music, and a vibe and is killing it now, but (and I say this with all sincerity): note to management/ownership: you are the new, sexy player on the block and are flourishing, but if you don't remedy this you will be outgunned in no time as new entrants appear. The reality of any business is that you can have the best location, the best atmosphere and great food and beverages but it all is for not if you don't have good staff. That is loyal legions problem, the service is horrible! Upon entry On my first visit I was very excited, but the excitement quickly faded as I was stuck waiting in long lines to place orders. The lines were caused due to the disorganization of the bar and the lack of attention by the staff. They certainly could be more systematic when it comes to the ordering process if they don't want to provide table side service. I mean seriously, five guys had better processes. That's not the only issue. The staff was cold, and very distant. I though by making small talk and acknowledging how busy they were they might warm up and give better service, let's be honest it's tough to give great service if guests are always upset, but even that did change their demeanor. The food was okay. I wouldn't get the chicken sandwich again and the beer selection was great. The beer selection and ambience are the only things saving this review from one star. Until they can find better staff, a nicer staff, and a better process for helping customers I will avoid this place like the plague. read more

Been here twice, once late on a Friday and once early on a Friday. They were busy both times--as they should be. The space is cool (somewhat incongruous with the concept...), the beer and liquor lists are really extensive with a nice cocktail selection and a simple food menu, and it's in a prime downtown location! The wait times to place an order can be borderline ridiculous especially when you're sitting at the bar and others queuing at the POS stations are being helped, but every server and bartender was unfailingly nice and friendly despite being slammed and understaffed. The wait times for food can get insanely long too but one of the bartenders warned us when we wanted to order the food and we appreciated her transparency. All the food that I've tried over 2 visits (spicy chicken sandwich-solid/fine, fries-excellent, dirty fries-twisty fries are fun, dish as a whole was fine) was good, not amazing, but really happy with the quality for the price. I want to love this place, but like all other businesses they're afflicted by the labor shortage so be prepared for possible long wait times if you go. read more

Loyal legion has a pretty good beer selection and does good tap takeovers but that doesn't offset how horrible everything else is. I honestly most of the time don't care about service, ( as long as the food and beer is good ) but this place has aggressively bad service. loyal legion has a seat your self policy and you order at the bar, one night I went with a group of friends we snagged a dirty table as that was the only one available went up and ordered at the bar and asked when they got a chance if they could wipe off the table. The bartender stormed to the table and started yelling at us for asking her to wipe it down. She had a full melt down. Pretty sure she has mental illness and should get help and or find a job that doesn't involve talking to people. I, out of shock, apologized to her and she just kept getting madder and madder. Every time she walked around she would glare at me. Our food came to the table and the burgers and bun were burnt beyond redemption. The burger crumbled like a cracker. Pretty sure the bartender told the kitchen to mess up the food, we asked for the manager as the angry bartender was preoccupied staring at a wall and madly pacing. The manager was fine but said this is how smash burgers are. I think she was just covering for the kitchen and bartender. If she was not covering then this spot needs the kitchen manager to go to one of the countless spots in the portland area that make great smash burgers and see how it's done. On a past experience where the burger at loyal legion were better according to my friend. They said that the the burger took 45 minutes and the spot was dead. Pretty sure that was because the mad staff forgot to put the order in with the kitchen though. The front of house staff in general also seems to have no beer knowledge or passion. The person who picks out the beer does a good job but it's a shame when everything else is awful. With so many great beer spots in Beaverton like raindrop, johns marketplace, room 122, nebulous, craft, central station taps, etc this place is not needed. I hope breweries avoid doing cool events at this spot and choose from all the other solid craft beer spots in Beaverton. read more

Beaverton location. Would NOT recommend!!! Open seating concept for a bar that really wants to be a restaurant is seriously flawed. You have to order at the bar then you need to go hunting for a seat. With a every seat taken, you're forced to hover over a table wanting people to hurry up eat so u can have their seat! This place is not compelling enough to do that. They encourage you to find seating outside as they have heaters to keep you warm. When we went out back they had 12 large tables, but only 3 small heaters. It's November in Oregon!!! We asked the waitress if there are more heaters, she gave us attitude. She sends the GM over to our table and he spends all his time justifying why things are not fully ready yet and wants to know who misled us about there being plenty of heaters as he wants to course correct them. Not a good show of people leadership skills. In the end he agreed to comp our meal but the damage had been done. They need to be clear about what they are, if your gonna be a bar, then scale back your menu to appetizers only and promote your beer menu. If you're gonna be a restaurant, than operate like one! Take reservations or don't, but create a waiting list and seat people in a orderly first come, first serve basis! It's better to go slow and get it right vs. too fast and over extending themselves. Felt like a money grab vs. providing great service. The beer was good and the food was ok. Too many choices to spend this much energy to have a meal at this place. Recently went here with some friends and although I love the inside the service seems a bit lacking and chaotic. We basically had to do our own payment processing, waitressing, and answering our own questions. Staff not very helpful for folks that have not been there before. Then if you don't "close your tab" the policy says they add 20% for a tip. Good way to make $$ right? With no waitresses asking you anything and you doing your own waitressing, clearing etc., not only do you not think of closing a tab but have to seek someone out to do it and tip for what? I'm doing everything and when you do talk to someone it's usually not the same person so who get's what tip? food/drinks ok. Unfortunately for the price, won't be back..... read more

A friend of ours from Canada, with a legitimate Canadian license, was not only turned away for drinks, but told she was not allowed to stay on the premises. She was KICKED OUT. ORS 471.130 section 1F Oregon law states states that Canadian licenses are accepted in Oregon bars, and while a business can turn away anyone they choose in the end, we're not happy that our 22 year old friend was kicked out for no other reason than they weren't comfortable accepting a Canadian license, something which I wouldn't think is uncommon??? In Oregon?? What is wrong with you??? We've often been patrons of Loyal Legion because we enjoy the food and atmosphere but this is stupid. We literally won't be coming here again. You're legally obligated to accept Canadian licenses. We also will be spreading the message of skipping this Beaverton staple because of this issue. The more we can get to not give Loyal Legion money, the better. read more
