I really was surprised on this, our second visit. Our first time had been a couple years ago and was not a good enough experience to make me return. I didn't even bother to write a review at that time, but had submitted five photos, some good, others not, that told the tale. So this time, with some trepidation, we gave them a second chance. Glad we did. This time was different. Two dishes, the black bean ribs and the salt & pepper pork chops, turned out great. Not only did they have good flavor, both dishes were quite generous and meaty. And if we had stopped ordering right there, I wouldn't have had any reason to drop a star. It was the dim sum that almost ruined it. The siu mai (8 pcs) were small and oddly fishy tasting, lacking the traditional aromatics. One bite and I knew there was no way I would continue eating them. No reason to bring them home either. Was I willing to just throw away my $13? No. Disappointed, I bravely told the server, and then, the manager. I got a "deer in the headlights" response, followed with a "what's wrong with it" query. Awkward moment. But, minutes later, the server returned from the back kitchen, and the most miraculous, unexpected thing happened. She said they would take it off my bill! Honestly, I was not expecting any resolution. But in wisely doing this, they frankly rescued the situation and my attitude. I respected that one gracious gesture. So, while the siu mai will still never be anything I order here, there is a vast menu to explore, and a few dishes I already know will not let me down. Two of these were from our first time, the char siu baos and the shrimp with scrambled egg. These were good. That said, this is a decent business that proved they wanted my business. Been here a couple of times and the food is delicious. Located right next to 99 Ranch plaza and off McKinley Street. It is a good place to get take out Chinese food as you can order online and pick up. I've also dined here before and their portions are quite large. Sometimes the wait staff will take a long time to refill your water or tea but overall it has been fairly good dining experiences. They do have lunch specials during the weekdays. Tonight we got their mixed meat and shrimp over fried noodle. Absolute love this dish. Packed with flavor and not too salty. Also got their eggplant with tofu. Surprising this dish was quite delicious. Not too salty and quite savory. Totally get this again. Usually we get their eggplant with garlic sauce and it's quite filling. If you're looking for traditional Chinese cooking, this is the place. The Spicy Chicken was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of heat, and the Kung Pao Chicken was fresh, flavorful, and authentic. My parents recently dined here and had a very disappointing experience. They ordered a soup but weren't aware that it contained egg. When it arrived, they found the texture very slimy and simply didn't enjoy it. They politely told the waitress they didn't like the soup, but instead of trying to help or offering another option, she said there was nothing she could do. She told them they would have to pay for it or take it home because it wasn't her fault they didn't like it. While I understand that restaurants have policies, good customer service goes a long way. A little understanding or willingness to find a solution would have made a big difference. Unfortunately, the lack of empathy and poor customer service left a bad impression. read more

It's enjoyable to be back at Lu's Bistro. Located near the 99 Ranch Market, it is an easy place to meet up with friends to eat & chat. It is under new management since my last visit. It is now a family operation. One of the waitress is the sister of the chef, the owner. The menu seems to have changed but still plenty of options. Spicy dishes are not very spicy for people (me) like spicy food. The chili sauce is mild with a strong vinegar taste. Service today is above average of typical Chinese restaurants, perhaps because it was not very busy. I wish them well. read more

First time here to Lus Bistro. There are plenty of tables and can accommodate a larger party. I ordered the Mongolian Beef lunch special which came with rice, egg roll, rice and tour choice of egg flower or hot and spicy soup. The Mongolian beef was full of flavor. One of my favorite Chinese restaurants and one of the best in the area. I'm not the biggest fan of Chinese food, admittedly, but the steamed pork dumplings and bbq pork buns are my go-to here. The dumplings are incredibly juice and when paired with their sauce, it makes the visit worth it every time and their buns are so soft and doughy. read more

I haven't had a good Sweet & Sour Pork in a while, to the point where I am hesitant to order it. This place used to be 5 stars - our favorite Chinese place to eat. Now they've changed owners and it's gotten really bad. Poor service, So strange that they decided to remove nice decor that gave it charm and character and added some ridiculous water tank bubble wall with fake fish that makes no sense to be there, and loaded in tons of random plushies and "mystery boxes" for sale. It's so trashy now. The food has gotten smaller and more expensive, and the people waiting tables are inattentive and don't really care. Service is slower than it was and it costs more. We placed a mobile order for Salt & Pepper Chicken. Service efficiency was great since they were bagging our order when we arrived. The entree was lightly breaded and fried crispy w sautéed onions, garlic, and jalapeños, seasoned lightly w salt and 5-spice. They also have Hot & Spicy Chicken (at other restaurants, this is called Chonqqing Chicken) that I'll have to try next time I'm in the area. I hate to leave a negative review for a Chinese restaurant but their food quality when we got take out was pretty subpar. We got eggplant with hot garlic sauce (鱼香茄子) and bean curd pork (香干肉丝) and both dishes had tons of green bell peppers. I like bell pepper but these are dishes that shouldn't include bell peppers as an ingredient. Nearly half the volume of each dish was just peppers. I understand that ingredients may be expensive or short supply but this was an anathema. I will give them one more chance because I want authentic Chinese food to succeed but do better! read more

Hard to put rates. For food : 5 stars no question. But service is 1 star. Thats why I have to put 3 stars because it is between lousy service and delish food Three of us ordered. But they brought my husband's food first. But not ours so he waited for ours. It took forever! I was starved. I went ahead eat my food. To our confusions, they don't include the rice with our entree food. Sp we had to order rice. Seriously. However we LOVE their food. They need to improve their services. 2 stars is strictly based off the food: the cashew nut was so bland I couldn't eat it. It tasted like nuts and chicken in tons of oil, no flavor at all. My Chinese wife and I eat at Lu's very often; it's like our second kitchen. The food is fresh, the variety is broad, the portions are generous (relatively HUGE in my opinion), and we can ask for less oil to be used. We also ask for no or little hot spiciness ("bu la"). My only beef is the table tops are tacky, apparently from oil residue. Not enough to keep us away from good cooking, though. read more

Being an avid Costco shopper I found myself exploring the other stores in the shopping center and was excited to find authentic Chinese food. Compared to favorites in Los Angeles and Orange County this place really surprised me. I ordered the combination fried rice and kung pao three meat. The rice was fresh and flavorful with no shortage of meat. Great portion for a great price. The Kung Pao veggie/meat ratio was a little to heavy on the veggie side in my opinion. However I went back the same week for some more of that combo fried rice. I will be back again to try other things such as the Sizzlin Fried Rice Soup. read more
