Foods: Traditional pho was very good for this area...at room temperature. Wings were alright...same as anywhere else. Pork belly banh mi was very greasy and bland. Fatty pork and lots of mayonnaise were not a good combination. With a group of 6 on prom night, we received AMAZING service. We went around 5:30 and it wasn't busy. Our server was incredibly considerate of our larger group size, offering to split meals into two bowls and cutting the egg-rolls in half for sharing. The ambiance is perfect for this location near the coast. Nestled inside the restaurant was their delicious Smoked Pho. They don't kid with the smokiness of the short ribs. Our host Taylor was spot on in recommending leaving the Smoked Pho as prepared by their chef. The broth has a unique taste of seasoning. Sizzling Bo Kho gave our taste buds another treat, with its tender braised beef. I kid you not, it was tender alright! Blended with the beef were potato wedges and carrots ... perfect for this ''meat and potatoes" kind of guy. We are always in search of a delicious Asian meal and this new restaurant didn't disappoint! The place is small but clean and aesthetically pleasing. The staff was friendly and welcoming; they were definitely eager to provide excellent customer service and build clientele. We enjoyed every single bite of the flavorful cauliflower tempura, the smoked brisket pho, and the bo kho sizzling plate. The Thai tea and lychee mocktail were refreshing. My husband and I came back for more delicious offerings at LUA, as promised and didn't disappoint! This time we had the Dragon Fruit Mojito Mocktail. It was very refreshing and tropical. The Crispy Lechon (roasted pork belly) Banh Mi was succulent and tasty. One note to the owner of LUA, more stuffing in the Banh Mi would be nice and perfect! We have been in this restaurant twice now. First, during their soft opening and second, was just recently. A few vegan items have been added in their menu. Ambiance is great, well decorated, and place is clean. Except for the experience we had recently where there was a fly flying around our table that it nearly touched our food. The entry door is kept open, which is why mosquitoes and other insects can potentially come in. I guess the door is kept open to have ventilation, but management has to do something on the mosquitoes and insects issue. Service is also great! The wait time from the time we placed our order up to the time our server brought our food was reasonable. Definitely no long waiting! All the staff are friendly and welcoming! We love the fact that customers are given the option to choose either bread or rice and special requests can be made. Here's my food review: Smoked Pho - Meat is very, very tender, which is great! By far, among the Pho restaurants we have tried, Lua has the most tender meat. Well cooked! Soup is very flavorful too! However, for its price of $23 with a small amount of noodles and small size of rib, we find it pricey compared to other Pho places around South Orange County including Irvine. The portion size is not that huge compared to other Pho places who charges the same price for a bigger portion with at least 2 big rib bones. Anyway, the flavor is great and its meat being so tender is a plus! Crispy Lechon - Love the sauce that comes with the Lechon. This is also flavorful! I just wish there's an option to order this Lechon with rice instead of bread. Sizzling Bho Ko - This is my favorite dish now! Love the taste of it and the sauce.... is superb! The beef is also super tender, which I love! Whether you choose rice or bread, it doesn't matter as it's the best in their menu in my opinion. You'll have to scrape the sauce! Crispy Egg Rolls - Perfect appetizer choice! Very crunchy and a good amount of filling of pork and shrimp. Best to eat with the sweet and spicy sauce that comes with it. I wish they would create a mixture of pork, shrimp and crab, which is served from another competitor in Lake Forest, Pholicious Noodle Bar. Banana Fritter ("Turon" in Filipino) - Oh! This is heavenly! Love, love, love this dessert! Definitely shareable! Just watch out for your A1C when you eat it. Meal is not complete without having this dessert! You'll have to save some space in your tummy for it! Overall, our experience has been great! The dishes served at Lua are "classy" and unique. We only hope that they will soon expand the choices in their menu and have more variety. Looking forward for more seafood choices like fish, shrimps, etc. Lastly, I hope they will soon add garlic noodles with shaken beef, shrimps or lobster. We will definitely come back! Came with my family for dinner on a Saturday. It wasn't too crowded for 7pm. The appetizers were delicious, and there was plenty of options to chose from on the menu. The wings and crispy egg rolls were great! They also have a drink menu, with lots of options to choose from. I didn't order a drink, but I tried some of the Hibiscus Lychee mocktail and that was good. For the entree, my mom and I shared a smoked brisket pho. It was so flavorful, and the brisket meat was cooked to perfection. It was soft and delicious. Personally, the broth of the soup was on the saltier side for me but that's due to the smokey flavors of the soup in there as well. The service was great. Wow! We were expecting a good Asian fusion restaurant but were blown away by how fantastic it really is. The combo fresh spring rolls were by far the best we ever had,. That's saying a lot after 40 years of trying so many Asian restaurants from NorCal to SoCal. Had one of the Curries and the smoked short rib pho. OMG, the fresh,flavors exploded in our mouth! Portions were so large that we had to take home half our dinners. Next time we're taking the combination fresh spring roll appetizer and sharing one dinner. Came as a last minute dinner option to try and saw there was no wait. Seated almost immediately which was nice. It took awhile for them to actually come take our orders. Once our orders were placed it took awhile as well. Service was below average at most especially here in Dana Point. We aren't really checked up on until the very last moment. Some of our phos came cold. Brisket in the pho dip banh mi was already premade which makes me think that not all of the meat options are freshly made. When it was time to pay and we already tapped, server then came back to add on top a 20% gratuity, then told us for six people it's added when it was not stated or prefaced anywhere which unprofessional and not transparent like other places. Asked for receipt, server just went back to talk. Overall don't recommend eating here pick another establishment that would be more grateful for business. read more

Tried a few of their dishes, and my opinion is as followed: The pho was flavorful, the noodles cooked to a good consistency, and the prime rib was so soft and tender that you don't get tired of eating it too quickly. The presentation was tasteful. The drinks are instagram worthy, colorful, and refreshing. Pleasing to the palette and the eyes. The bo kho(beef stew) had meat that was slow cooked until they probably fell off the bone. Using a spoon to cut it was easier than cutting butter with a hot knife. The stew itself had a good impact. It reminds me of mole more than the traditional bo kho. The banh mi, the bread was soft, the crispy pork lived up to the name of being crispy. The chimichurri sauce had a nice zing. The items that I have tried have been very good. I really like their noodle soups. Really nice well rounded/balanced flavors. The popcorn chicken is flavorful. Chicken wings used to be on the menu but quickly went away. Sadly I never got to try it. Service is on par with your typical Asian restaurant. Expect the food to outclass the service! The fresh spring rolls and yellow curry veggies w/tofu dish both had a larger variety of ingredients than any similar dishes I've had elsewhere, and there have been many. Flavors were delicious. Having eaten pho for over 30years at hundreds of restaurants in 10+ states (including Little Saigon in LA many times) Lúa's stands a cut above. This is THE BEST PHO I've ever had hands down. Service is outstanding. Crunchy Egg rolls robust, yet mild flavor served with lettuce, basil, cilantro, spring onions & an incredibly light, refreshing sweet & sour sauce with a mild kick that helps take the flavor of the roll & herbs as it flows through the palate. The pork & veggie filling was very well seasoned & balanced, not too rich, not too bland. Easily standing on its own, which Ive found exceedlingly rare. The fresh herbs & sauce can be added in any combination to take the rolls to the next flavor experience. Smoked Pho (12-hour smoked short rib)- rich layered flavor of the broth is incredible. The Smokey beef served with the pho marrys perfectly with the richness of the broth itself. When allowed to sit in the broth a few minutes (tasted immediately upon arrival, then 10minutes later after wife had eaten) the richness of the broth was greatly intensified & the Smokey flavor permeated thru the perfectly seasoned broth. Best coffee in town! Seriously the most delectable treat you'll have all day. And the other drinks are amazing as well. The one with passion fruit is soooooo goooooood! And the food is to die for, the people, ambiance and service are so nice, and the location is perfectly close to the Salt Creek beach and golf course trail if you want to take anything to go and have a nice walk! I've only tried a couple items from here, but every item I've tried has always been wonderful. Their brisket sandwich with a pho dip is so good and the pho soup is really flavorful. Their eggrolls are top-tier and very crunchy, and their spring rolls are also very good, especially with the peanut sauce on the side. Inside is quite small, but it has a good amount of seating and it is a very welcoming atmosphere. Service has always been well and my food has always come out fairly quick. read more
