It's literally been decades since I've set foot inside a Lubys, and I have to admit it was better than I was expecting. Plenty of parking here and there's a large menu on the wall just before you get in line to make your selections. I have to admit there's a lot of variety sitting in those steaming chafing trays. I recommend getting here at the height of lunch or dinner because those heat lamps tend to dry the food out the longer it sits. To be honest the food is good and it's a step up from Golden corral and that's about it. When you check out with your selections, that tip screen will not be waiting for you, however they do offer you a cashback option so you can leave a few dollars on the table as a tip for your server. You can get Lubys to go and they are open11 to 8 7 days a week. Definitely good lunch or dinner spot at a great value. ***1/2

Luby's is straight nostalgia for me. It's been around for so long, managed to survive the pandemic, and though there are very few locations left around San Antonio and Austin, I do enjoy a drop in once in a blue moon. I grew up enjoying Luby's as a kid on Sundays with the family. It's inexpensive and filling and you just can't find the old time cafeteria vibes anywhere else. Is the food great? Not by any means. But it's southern comfort food, it's served hot and ready, you can choose whatever weird combination of mains and sides and desserts and breads you want, and 2 people can eat a feast for less than $35 - which is rare nowadays. My go-to items are the carved turkey, fried okra, broccoli cheese casserole, and their mac and cheese. You can't go wrong with the fried fish, either, or a slice of one of their old fashioned pies. Service is self-serve and very casual.

Always good food and kind service. I had the fried fish and tartar sauce which never is a bad choice. A go to when you don't know what to get.

I love Luby's and look forward to visiting when I'm in town. This place always brings back childhood memories, as this was where we went after church on Sunday's. Food is always on point, fresh and warm. Service is prompt, sometimes with a smile sometimes without and that's okay. I like the lights throughout the ceiling at the Anderson Lane location. I used to take the kids to Luby's location at 183 and Lake Creek Parkway (closed now) fun times and fun memories. Always the LuAnn Platter for me, and most of the times it's fried fish. Salisbury steak is next, or chicken fried chicken. With a side salad. Cafeteria food for the win here at Luby's (in my opinion). My husband loves the Liver & Onions, I DO NOT agree with this choice. Or the Turkey & Dressing is a hit too.

I love Luby's!! And I know I'm probably the only person in my circle and family (other than my mother) that LOVES LIVER AND ONIONS!! My physician thought I was on iron pills when I was pregnant because I ate this so much. And because I can't touch raw liver I appreciate Luby's and they give you nice size portions for a great price!

A solid choice for cheap southern comfort food with a big group! Kids eat free on Wednesdays and Saturdays. One free kids meal with each purchase of an entree. I enjoyed the saucy chicken tetrazzini as a half entree, with mashed potatoes and okra. Don't skip the gravy! The jalepeno cornbread was pretty unique, but I'd be interested the garlic bread next time, since I'm not a big jalapeño fan. The Mac n cheese was a good texture and cheesiness. not too salty like Chick-fil-A's. There are so many sides to choose from, with a mix of healthy and unhealthy choices. Would be interested in their cut fruit next time! The hardest part is passing on their $3-5 desserts! Without dessert, we spent less than $20 to feed three people- amazing!

Stopped to get lunch for my elderly in-laws. Two liver & onion plates with gravy, cabbage, mashed potatoes, okra, a roll, cornbread, chocolate cake and pecan pie and it was hot & freshly prepared and perfect order with all the condiments! Kudos to the To Go staff, they were prompt and courteous! My only complaint is ordering and paying on line, but your cashier had to re-enter my order in his register before I could pick up. Why doesn't your technology connect so it can do what it's supposed to do and reduce some labor so it can be used elsewhere. Not effective process.

I'm so very sad that this business closed in Waco. It had excellent food and was a great gathering place for post church meals on Sunday.

You cannot go wrong with their fish and mac & cheese and that's exactly what she ordered. For her bread she ordered the yeast roll and man that was outstanding! I can believe we have been sleeping on these for so long. I was glad to see a plethora of sides I could order as a vegetarian and really enjoyed the mashed potatoes, rice, baked potato and cornbread. Their desserts were great and the service was impeccable, we will definitely be back.

Nice start. This place is cavernous and has a long well stocked food line to go with it. I found pretty much typical lubbys fare on display. Always quite a spread for a cafeteria. They have a smaller serving called a LuAnn platter. It's a reduced entree portion with two sides and bread. Always a bargain and more than enough. Today I got the 1/4 fried chicken white. It consisted of a perfectly fried breast wing piece. I added mashed potatoes and gravy and fried okra. When I ask for the diner roll the server ask, butter on it? As he reached for a brush in a clarified dish of butter,I let Out and enthusiastic," Yes please". And he brushed on a beautiful glaze of butter. Add ice tea for a sweltering Austin day refresh and you have a winner. These cafeterias are disappearing just as we need the value most. I recommend as soon as possible you... Go!

Upon entering I was a bit confused and a little leary looked like and was set up like school cafeteria but don't be deceived, it's totally not I was approached by a very professionally dressed and nice female who I assumed was the hostess/mgr. that explained the menu ordering system to me(later found out she was owner) anyway thanked her and went on about my business because I was hungry, checked out menu for day big chalk board with the "special" of the day and the fresh Entrees and soups of the day in addition to there usual menu items, burgers, sandwiches, ect. the entrees this day were a "smothered chicken breast" looked like a chicken marsella type dish (looked yummy) & a squash curry casserole which looked great also, but I opted for the fresh soup of day & salad bar, because the salad bar looked so great and was plenty of fresh ingredients & a great variety of items to make a wonderful salad and excellent choice of dressings also! and the soup OMG ! it was totally excellent !! the one I had don't remember the name of it but was a chicken soup with posale & cilantro in it big chunks of chicken and seasoned perfectly I loved it ! it was delicious I even purchased a second bowl it was so good the other soup was a potato&leak that looked excellent but didn't try, needless to say I was very satisfied with my lunch and would suggest to my other friends, kinda seems like a "weird" or strange place to eat inside the housing auth. bldg. but its great give it try if you're looking for some fresh good food, menu varies daily and they cater also please give their web site a look only open from 11a- 330 or 4 p but well worth trying! just my take on this not so well know place ! they do catering also!!
