This restaurant is decorated beautifully with New Orleans decor but make sure to bring your jacket as it is a bit chilly inside. Also, be prepared to scan a QR code for your menu. This place is fantastic! I honestly felt like I was transported to New Orleans. The service was friendly and attentive. First tried the gizzards, which are hit or miss at most places, but not here. They were a hit wet the table. They were actually tender and the flavor was wonderful, especially with the hot sauce. The portions are humongous. I got the fried catfish smothered with crawfish etouffee with spicy mashed potatoes and Cajun corn. Oh yeah, and great cornbread. Very satisfied with my order. Came for the first time for dinner, excited based off the multiple reviews I read but unfortunately didn't have that experience myself. We ordered fried catfish with mac n cheese and collard greens, and the catfish po boy with yams. The catfish platter came with cornbread which I have to say was my favorite thing on my plate. The sides, in my opinion, lacked any strong flavor, and the catfish was fried too hard in that the batter and the fish separated from it and basically just broke down anytime I tried to cut or break a piece off. The portion size was nice in that I had a whole filet I could take for leftovers if I wanted too but overall, I was bit let down by the flavor and cook of our food. There's not a Thanksgiving meal that hits the spot quite as much as the Sunday special at Y'all's. I had such a huge craving for it, so I was pretty bummed when I went and they didn't have it that Sunday. They said they were trying out a gumbo special on Sundays for the month. I went for the grilled catfish atchafalaya instead and wow, I was extremely satisfied with my choice. The fried cabbage never disappoints and the red beans and rice wasn't amazing but overall not a bad choice. Its just gets better everytime I come. So today my bae and I took his cousin to dinner and she was so excited to go because its close to her new place. Bae is in love with the cornbread croutons, Cousin is in love with these beautiful lamb chops and the unique sauce that is provided, and I'm really trying to manage my intake so I did the salad and could not finish it with my silly intermediate fasting and pulling back from fried foods however, I love the shrimp on my salad. I did have to take it home to eat for breakfast. I've actually known the owner for quite a few years due to a mutual friend. I went to visit my friend in Austin and we went to Y'all's. She said really good things about this place so I was excited! The entire restaurant is New Orleans based so they have Mardi Gras type decor and a tree that apparently stays there year round (I guess that's a southern thing?) It wasn't busy when we went and we had a large party. The wait staff were super accommodating which was really helpful because sometimes large parties can be a lot to accommodate. This was a little place tucked off in the back of a strip center. The people were so friendly. They really made you feel at home. They have a Cajun/ soul food vibe and it was really good. 11/14/2024: Oh my God! Baby! Y'all's Down Home Southern Cafe was so delicious that it made my soul smile. I was greeted by Mr. Jeff and Jasmine was my waitress. Their customer service is top tier. I always say whenever you're greeted with a nice smile, everything will taste good! It didn't take long to be served after placing my order. Or maybe the time passed by fast because of the grape Kool-Aid that was made with the perfect amount of sugar. I ordered the chicken fried steak, collard greens, red beans and the double crusted peach cobbler. This is the first time that I've never had to add extra seasoning to my food. It was provided but not needed. As I type this I'm still in my car, too satisfied to drive to my destination. Every item I ordered was properly cooked and maybe they added an ounce of love it in too. I ate everything. The restaurant is cozy and has a beautiful New Orleans theme. The only thing I didn't like is I had to leave . I can't wait to dine here again. Ate here on a late July Saturday night and had a seriously up and down experience. Let's start with the bad: it seems that staff was completely depleted. The place was busy with a lot of diners, but the service was extremely slow, from waiting for a table, to waiting our server to put in an order, to waiting for the check. We probably spend a total of 2 hours here with just two people. Our server also told us that only one chef was working the kitchen. From the dining perspective, however, the food was delicious. My smothered bone-in pork chop was everything I wanted when I get cravings for southern food. The pork was tender and fatty, and sauce and veggies were addicting, and the sides were so good. Huge fan of their fried cabbage. Cornbread good as I remember as well. And at such a great price. Overall, I would love to come here on a regular basis, but can't justify doing so given how slow everything is. This is truly a family mom and pop place and local - love to support that! I was raised very southern and this IS southern. Red beans a rice good and thick and a bit of a kick. I've done both--dinning in and take out--and the food never disappoints. I've tried several options on the menu, but my go-to is the meatloaf (at least for right now). The cornbread was of the sweeter variety but loved every bite. Also had the green beans and the collard greens. The greens were well washed with no sandy bits and it was cooked a little al dente without being too mushy or tough. There was enough vinegar that balanced the flavorings too. My catfish hung over my plate! It was breaded with some breading that had a kick to it. It was very tasty. The candied yams are sweet and make a perfect side to any meal choice. We previously visited Y'alls years ago and I can't believe we waited this long to return. Their name just about says it all Down Home Southern cuisine just add delicious in front! Our party of 4 arrived on a chilly Saturday seeking comfort food and it was mission accomplished. We debated ordering Apps but after seeing the heaping plates of food arriving at neighboring tables we called an audible and went straight to their entrees. I ordered their meatloaf and I am a meatloaf snob so I've been disappointed a few times. This meatloaf did not disappoint. It was moist and smothered with their signature gravy. The dish also includes onions and peppers that were spiced with their "secret spices". If this was not enough my sides included some of the best collard greens I've had in a while and their mashed potatoes have a surprisingly pinch of heat. Oh, don't sleep on their cornbread deliciously moist and perfect for sopping up the excess gravy. Plus one ordered their chicken fried chicken. The chicken was moist and also smothered with their signature gravy. If you are very hungry order their fried catfish Atchafalaya entree. You get two large catfish filets topped with crawfish etouffee and a bed of rice. As mentioned earlier this is a bountiful dish that you could easily share. Service was friendly and we were checked on multiple times and even the manager stopped by to check on us. There is a full bar with TVs if you wish to catch a game while getting your Cajun food fix. We have been there twice now. Everything so far has been very good. The cabbage is my favorite and is to die for. I did just get the chicken fried steak though and it was pretty inedible. It was a tiny piece of very tough cube steak that was buried in the flour mix so looked big. I didn't care for the brown "famous" gravy. They really need to improve that and it was pricey (you have to get that dish right here!). My husband had the chicken fried chicken and he thought it was very good though. The sides ate honestly better than the meals. It's pricey but recommend trying this place. I worry about them as they don't seem that busy but maybe they are when we aren't there. I don't typically leave reviews, but this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Ordered online at 7p and it said to pick up around 7:36p. I get there and they didn't have my order and claimed a system issue that prevented them from receiving orders for an hour. This is despite several people coming in while I was there and picking up their online order. They told me it would be another 25 minutes, and giving them the benefit of the doubt, I stated I would wait. After 25 minutes, I still did not have my order and I waited an additional 10 minutes and asked the hostess for an update. I was told 15 more minutes. I'm already getting frustrated because there was nearly no one there, except a party of 7 who came in 45 minutes after I ordered my food. I waited the additional 15 minutes and again asked for an update where I was told the kitchen was backed up and it would be another 25 minutes. I said absolutely not and I would like a refund as I had already been waiting an hour and a half since ordering. A second person came and asked what I was wanting and again I said a refund. He left and never came back to me. The hostess went to the back and came back telling me that it would bed 6 minutes, not 25, according to the owner. Since they didn't seem inclined to refund me, I agreed to wait 6 minutes, no more, for my food. 25 minutes later, they brought me my food... but they missed an entire meal. I went back to the front and told them they missed one of my meals and they questioned me as though I was being untruthful. They initially said it wasn't on my order until I showed them my email confirmation. So there I was waiting even longer. When I was talking to the hostess, she told me that it took so long because I ordered online and they don't always look at their online orders. I asked why they would have an online ordering system then? She then stated that it was my fault because I ordered so much and I should have order right when they opened. Come again? I ordered 4 meals. Expensive ($80+ for 4 meals) and terrible time. As for the food, the cornbread and macaroni and cheese were really, really good. My husband said the candied yams were super good too. The fried catfish was fine. Nothing special or memorable. The mashed potatoes and fried pork chops were not good. The breading was falling off the chops in a soggy mess and they tasted very bland. I ended up throwing the catfish and chops away.
