This place is very good. Food always taste good and they never mess up on our order. The prices are also very good, never cold and that's why we always come back. I would give this place 5 stars but every time I call you place a to-go order, they never ever pick up the phone. I always have to call to speak to the manager just to get a hold of someone to take my order. Also the breakfast is absolutely horrible. At Luby's Houston #22, I forgot to tell the server that my order was "to go". She mumbled in Spanish to her coworker--"no me dice" and banged the serving tool on the plate. She became increasingly impatient, and then told her coworker in Spanish.."ay, los negros". I understood this negative remark and was hurt, embarrassed, angry, and confused all at the same time. I could not believe that someone would be brazen enough to make a racist comment about a my race IN MY PRESENCE. At this point, I would like to say in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, that not all Latinos look like Jennifer Lopez or John Leguizano. Some of us look like Celia Cruz and Big Papi, and we understand Spanish. I'm one of them. Despite the rudeness of the staff, I then apologized to both the coworker and the server who made the comment for not informing them of my to go order, paid for my food and went home. After getting home, I called and reported the incident to the Manager, who apologized for the server's behavior and apologized on behalf of Lubys. He said that he would meet with the workers and have "sensitivity training". However, if I had made a similar negative racist comment such as "these Mexicans" or "these Whites" or "these Asians", I think that I would probably be subjected to much MORE than a group meeting about "sensitivity" training. I would probably be subjected to a written reprimand at the very least, and possibly termination. read more

I usually choose this location because it is close to my home. We've been eating here for about a year. Well, today...not even 10 minutes ago, my husband and I braved the line of people for Thanksgiving pickup to grab to go plates. I selected carrot and raisin salad, chicken fried steak with potatoes and black eyed peas. When we got to the bread selection...Pause...The was a ROACH crawling all over the bread! I asked the server if she saw it and she said no at first. My husband and the lady behind us confirmed it. That roach had been there for at least 2 minutes at that point. When the server saw it, she immediately tried to smash it and took the pan to the back. We all know there is never just ONE roach. My review is strictly on the breakfast buffet because that's all I eat here. The hours for the breakfast bar 7 AM till 11 AM so if you're a late sleeper on the weekends like myself it can be pretty tough but it's worth it if you don't feel like cooking and they have a great price of $5.49. They don't have very many options which is kind of expected for such a cheap price but they have pretty much enough options for your standard meat filled breakfast. They have two different options of scrambled eggs one that has sausage scrambled in it and then the other various veggies, bacon, sausage patties, biscuits that are really good as well as French toast pancakes and Spanish rice and I also believe I've seen refried beans as well. Service is pretty good usually we get the same young lady and it's important to get in fairly early because the closer to their closing time for breakfast the least fresh the food will be because they're already loading in the normal lunch options read more

I love Luby's. Have been coming to Luby's since I was my son's age (7) and it's time to carry on the tradition. My entire lifetime coming here, I've only ever ordered the same entree: fried fish. I used to get double mac n cheese but now that I'm an adult I get at least one veggie instead and that rotates between green beans and sweet potatoes. My only complaint with Luby's is their prices and mainly on drinks. $2.99 for a glass of tea? That's insane. $18 for an adult meal is also insane. I learned the trick though. Go to the drive through or pick-up line and order a kids meal. It's $3.23 (with tax) and you get same portion sizes for everything PLUS jello and a small drink. :-) read more

I've eaten at Luby's for many many years and I've always enjoyed it, but I haven't been there in maybe 5 years. What has happened to that place? My wife and I decided to have Thanksgiving dinner at home by ourselves, so she wen't to the Luby's on S. Mason Rd in Katy and got two identical turkey dinners to go. I have to say it was the worst Thanksgiving meal I've had in my entire life. The dressing was on the bottom, then dark meat, then white meat on top, so with all that hot meat on top of the dressing, needless to say it was like mush, and the dark meat, I don't know where to begin. It was shredded and looked like it was run through a meat grinder. The white meat was dry and tasted bad. We also had whipped sweet potatoes that were ok and corn bread which was the best part of the meal. For dessert, a piece of pecan pie for her and pumpkin pie for me. Both awful. I don't know what the deal was, but we'll never go back there. read more

Waitress never looked at, acknowledged, or checked up on me, however, she serviced my wife ( who is White, and I'm Asian). So she checks on my wife , "are you doing okay m'am," but completely ignored me the entire time we were there. I was like what the hell? Not sure what this was all about, but spoke with a manager on the phone and gave a description of the waitress, who was Hispanic, and the time we went and where we were sitting, and he said he will talk to the wait staff right away. This location used to be a regular in our eating out routine, especially on Wednesdays or Saturdays when kids eat free. Food was pretty good and employees were pleasant. We don't expect too much from Luby's, however, the past few visits had become more and more miserable. Our last visit pretty much took them out of our rotation. From the cashier who was loud and rude, to the lazy manager on duty. The experience that did it for us was the waitress on our last visit. The entire time we were there, the waitstaff would congregate at a corner booth where, it was apparent, one of their friends was sitting. The staff were eating and drinking at this booth when they were supposed to be attending to patrons (I'm fairly sure this is a health code violation in Texas). They would become so involved with socializing with this one individual that we found it impossible to get our waitresses attention and had to go back up to the cashier to get what we needed. When we complained to the manager, the waitstaff went back to work, but then our waitress started openly and audibly mocking us to her coworkers and other patrons. We were appalled at the behavior and finally just had our remaining meals boxed up and left. Upon leaving, we asked how we could contact upper management and were referred their website. So, once we were home we lodged our complaint. We didn't hear back for weeks, until we received a form letter in the mail with a gift card. There was no apology or assurance that the problem would be taken care of. It was basically, "we heard you were unhappy, here's a gift card". Unbelievable. If you want immature employees to humiliate you and your children and to make you feel like you are in high school again, eat here. Otherwise, steer clear. read more

Went here for lunch yesterday ordered the full serving of turkey and dressing. They gave me 2 extremely thin slices of turkey and only 2 bites of dressing. As the server was trying to hand me the plate I asked about the dressing. I've had turkey and dressing at Luby's all over Texas (Houston, Austin, Killeen, Temple, San Antonio, Kerrville etc.) and there was always way more dressing than the two measly bites on this plate. The server had an attitude and said in a nasty tone that's all your going to get. I advised that I no longer wanted the order and started to leave before the server handed it to me. Was told that I had to take it and replied no I didn't and left without getting anything. The quality of Luby's food has been slipping for years, ever since the buyout. The poor quality, rising prices, and now bad attitude is too much. No wonder the customer base has dwindled so much and they are having to close up. read more

Not sure why this Luby's gets such low ratings as far as all the Luby's around town. YES, the prices are outrageous for what you get, IMHO - $65 (after tip) for four people for cafeteria food when one person got a veggie plate is pretty high. BUT I will say that our waitress was friendly and attentive, liked her alot. and all the food was GREAT - we ate between each other's plates, and I didn't taste anything I didn't like. The chicken parmesan alfredo, the turkey meatloaf, the CFS, greens, mac and cheese (one of the best on the table, yum!), fried okra, fried green tomatoes all very good. and the side salad is VERY good, I will def get that each time I come in. And the strawberry shortcake was AWESOME! Like I said, the Luby prices are way too high to eat it on a regular basis, there are just too many options for made-to-order food around town; but I did enjoy my meal. Used the drive-through tonight although it IS the slowest drive-through in town. The system here seems to be broken. There should be a way to streamline the process and I know that the takeout line inside the restaurant is even worse. But sometimes you just don't want to get out of the car. (Rain) I got the sliced turkey. Too salty to eat. Had to be trashed. They don't give you cranberry unless you remember to ask. I forgot. The dressing now comes in a little 2 ounce cup. This leaves your turkey/dressing ratio off. A good part of the steamed broccoli was yellow. Defeats the purpose of eating green vegetables. Jello smells like aquarium water. Trashed. Half of roll was stale. Yams were good. I really wish this place was better. Sadly, I feel like the over salting is to cover up old or subpar ingredients. And maybe they could poach some of Chic Filet's cheerful staff. read more

I wasted all my food on my first plate it was the all you can eat breakfast. The hot cereal was a curdle of liquid. More like hot shit it was slime. The staff were retarded. The only people that cleared their plate were obese or very hungry. We took a few bites and a full refund. Lastly the customers were weird. They kept asking what is this or what is that. Don't care for Furr's family dining but after being bumped on 3 flights on Christmas Eve we ordered take out turkey dinners for Christmas Day thinking we will sit outside and dine by the lake and still call it a traditional turkey feast, not. Our first attempt at eating with Luby's in this location, the Town & Country had been our haunt for years but moving far west means you have to dine at this Luby's, not! How one can mess up mashed potatoes and gravy and serve hard stringy okra is beyond my southern upbringing. Take out usually is not this disappointing, awful for service, presentation and quality of food and not the fault of the Styrofoam box, even serving the meal on expensive china it still tasted like garbage which is where my dinner went, no garbage gut for me. This Luby's location has earned high marks from me. It is clean, the food taste good, they give good service, and there is excellent value for what I pay. Even the Hostess, Lizzy, comes around with a smile on her face with pleasant greetings to check on her customers. Carl is most often my attendant and never lets my water glass go dry. In addition to being attentive, he is very upbeat and helps make my visit a pleasant experience. This rating is comparing this restaurant with other similar price range restaurants. Being 60, I have enjoyed going to Luby's since I was a kid. Food 4stars ~ Staff 5stars. The only reason I gave 4stars & not 5, is that their food quality isn't quite the same ~ case in point ~ my fav has always been their "baked haddock almondine" ~ it used to be a more solid filet but now seems to be made of the "flaked & formed" variety. I'm sitting here with3 different sides and a turkey chopped steak and everything on my plate taste the same.. so at this point your just choosing sides based on nutrition reasons. Then they have this clown that claims he works here yet looks like a homeless man impersonating a Luby's employee. Word of advice, your servers / staff should maintain their facial hair better.
