Lubys used to be the place to go after Sunday church and to pick up turkey, dressing and giblet gravy for the holidays. Prices went way up and understandable but good food went down. Last order the dressing was very bland but the worst was paying $8.99 for a yellow thick lump of lard Lubys called giblet gravy! It was a huge disappointment to my family to not receive giblet gravy but yellow no taste so called gravy was horrible. Staff at Lubys will not answer how or why the gravy changed but we are staying away from spending so much money there when Lubys is obviously cutting corners and pleasing customers doesn't matter anymore. read more

First of all, Luis is claiming a shortage of fish. There happens to be Luby's fish at H-E-B so how is there a shortage of fish when it's at H-E-B? Then they come up with this catfish with some sweet sauce on it. I guess the chef put out that's disgusting. Give people option playing catfish or with the sauce most people use tartar. The quality of the food diminished greatly. The food was cold within time it reached my tray to the table 2-3 minutes approx. The Mac and cheese now uses a different recipe and it's terrible. The banana pudding is made with powder, and that's ok I suppose but it tastes bad. The new white rolls are hard. Irrelwvant but the LARGE "OPEN" sign is extremely unnecessary in the location of the building lol. The service is still great! The ambiance mimics a bar and grill due to the choice of music. "Why fix it if it ain't broken" Lubys had a great thing going. My sister & I visited Luby's on Fredericksburg Road this weekend. Manager would not speak to us about my meal. My chicken was raw, manager would not replace my meal. After trying to get the manager to speak to us, he decided he would replace my meal. I no longer wanted it. I wanted my money back and all he returned was $4 for the chicken. It doesn't sound like you wanted satisfied customers, we will not be returning to this location. read more

Traditional American food. I've been coming here for years and I have so many memories here. My dad would bring us here after church service on Sundays. My favorite plate is the fried fish ( LUANN PLATTER ) the consistency of this dish remains the same. The mashed potatoes are not clumpy and hard. The macaroni is always hot and has the right amount of cheese! Great place to bring the whole family. Thank you for your fantastic service, beautiful atmosphere, very friendly and family oriented! Went to this one on the south side as was told it's really good. It is really good. To keep my Lubys experiences up to the other ones I have visited, I asked the servers and others too please treat me rudely so I would feel comfortable. Everyone smiles here and is happy. The place I is cleaner than anY other one I have been in. Larger portions of food than others also. I'll make this my Lubys from now on. read more

I understand that there is a worker shortage in the US., but when one hires less than enthusiastic workers, you wind up with workers who care less about the establishments customers. I ordered a blacken chicken plate and was told us would take 20 minutes to cook. I said cool and waited to dine in. A server walks up to me and says, "what sides do you want?" Gave her my order and she walks back with my order in a plastic bag, after I had told that same server and another server who was training her that the plate was for dining in. Server rolls her eyes and walked away. I left without eating and not be coming back to Lubys ever again. This place is definitely lacking supervision. Came here with my family for lunch. They did not really have much I could eat as a vegan. Most of their foods are meat and dairy based. Even the vegetables have meat in them usually i.e. green beans cooked with bacon. They did have some fruit and some basic salads. If you are a vegan I would try finding another place to eat tbh. read more

As a former TX resident, now living far from any Luby's, I was so excited to find a standing and operating restaurant in San Antonio. Fresh food, great customer service and all the wonderful things I remembered about this restaurant growing up are here!All your old favorite staples are still here (creamy yummy Mac and cheese, & crispy fried okra!) you will also find new and healthier dishes as well. My only complaint is that the menu is impossible to read. The Lu Ann platter is not on the menu and for visitors not familiar to Luby's, it should be listed and explained. Prices are fair and as I mentioned earlier, customer service is great and the restaurant was very well maintained. PS...King of the Hill fans? Lu Ann Platter....brilliant. read more

My family and I are here on Christmas Day. Being one of the very few restaurants open on a major holiday they were very busy but from the moment we got to the door the service was impeccable! They were very organized and prepared for the crowds. Someone immediately helped my grandma through the line who could not carry her own tray. They accommodated our party of 15 and every staff member had a smile on their face the entire time. Quick service, consistent food quality at most of these chains, and friendly waitresses keeping an eye on you at your table. Good stop for homey food where you can get exactly what you expect every time. Salads taste fresh and cold. Fish is well-cooked. Mac n cheese is a delicious side. First and last time here for their breakfast buffet . The waffles were tasteless & like cardboard. The bacon and sausage was overcooked and super greasy. Ranchero Eggs were bland and was already covered and way over saturated with salsa. Oatmeal was ok. But recently I started ordering by phone To Go orders, and the staff that work between 12 pm & 3pm have the worst customer service and are not trained the correct way, and most of the time the don't give you the right order. I returned to this location yesterday and had the Senior LuAnn. Got a great meal with my favorite baked fish, fried okra and cornbread. I also had the twice-baked potato - something new for me at Luby's. I enjoyed the meal as usual but especially the service from Pedro. He took care of my every need and just couldn't have treated me better. Just can't beat good food and good service - especially at a cafeteria. I'll be back again soon - this location offers the Senior LuAnn, after 4pm, with half-size entrees but full sides and bread. It takes $2 off the regular price at only $5.99. read more
