Penne Alla Vodka with eggplant parm. Inedible!
    Bianca P.

We decided to stay in for Valentine's Day, have a comfortable at home evening and order food. HUGE MISTAKE! The Italian sub was horrible. Embarrassing really for a deli. The bread was hard, I could barely bite thru it. The sub in general was just terrible. I cannot believe the kitchen packed it up and let it leave the kitchen. The issues with the sub pale in comparison to the train wreck penne spa vodka with eggplant parmigiana. It was beyond terrible.. inedible!! The pasta was wayyy over cooked and the eggplant absolute garbage. I cannot believe they served that to paying guests.. it was so old and dry, I could not cut thru it. I tried to bite it and I couldn't. I have no idea where they were keeping this fried eggplant and for how long but it might be time for the health department to check out the food quality and storage. I was very very disappointed.. it ruined our night! I will never order from this place again.. I would like to add-- I have ordered before a few times and it was mediocre so I continued to order to give them business and in the hopes that the food would get better. I was very wrong!

Egg whites, fresh mozzarella and broccoli rabe

So this morning's weekly Sunday breakfast out takes me back to Hoboken. I had to try somewhere new and fate landed me here. The appearance is great. Parking is rough but where in Hoboken isn't parking rough? I ordered online (5 sandwiches and home fries) and everything was ready when we got there. Keep in mind we're a solid 15 minutes away. I know, I'd hope it would be ready in 15 minutes but with some places I've been too...... you'd be surprised. I got the Egg whites, fresh mozzarella and broccoli rabe and my youngest got his traditional sausage, egg and cheese. When I unwrapped mine I was very nervous. It looked very blasé. I was wrong, the salt from the fresh mozzarella and the broccoli rabe really carried this sandwich. Worked well together. My son was also very happy with his sandwich. The inside and very clean and the staff was very helpful. That's always a plus. With that said, I do believe I'll be back for lunch sometime.....

Solid spot! Stopped by to grab 2 sandwiches and was glad I did! I used to be a huge fan of Lisa's but haven't been in a while so I needed my sandwich fix!! I ordered Grilled Chicken Sub (with arugula, pesto, roasted peppers) and the Big Petey on whole wheat bread. The mozzarella is good but I wouldn't say it's the best I ever had.. (fiores) and the bread was pretty dry. Next time I'll just keep the white roll or try a wrap! Would recommend as a solid sub option in town!

Look at the size of this monster!!! (Soda for reference). That cheese!!

This place is SO good. It has become my go to. You will not be disappointed. The place has massive subs and the portions are huge.

Worst sandwich in my life. They use cheapest ingredients. Worst tasteless deli meat with canned artichokes and canned sliced black olives.

One of the few places around you can get an actually good croissant! I occasionally indulge in the mac & cheese as well. They have an array of fancy-ish sandwiches and entrees. I haven't had a lot of their menu, but they briefly had pizza (maybe they still do?). That I cannot recommend. It was basically a frozen grandma pie with little to no sauces and very thick bread. For a place like this, I was surprised that the liquor prices. are actually better than many of the straight up liquor stores in the area. Interesting craft beer selection that rotates. The beer is actually pricier by comparison than the booze. But it all depends on your taste. I love their beer selection when it's heavy on the IPAs, but when they go heavy on the sours I get a bit sour...

I love that they have outdoor seating, freshly made sandwiches, and so many diverse snacks, beers, and wines to choose from. I called in my order and made my way over, it was just about ready when I arrived. The Murray is a massive sandwich! At ~$14, it's a steal considering this was 2 meals for me. The bread was soft yet held everything together well, it was loaded with turkey and pastrami, and the other ingredients added more flavor and freshness. My only complaint had to be that there wasn't enough sauce (more mayo or something else) as it was a bit dry. They have a bunch of chips to choose from and I loved this Kettle Chips truffle oil & sea salt flavor. The staff is super friendly and helpful too. If you're in the area, I highly recommend supporting this local business!

We came in around 1:30pm on Saturday and there was a line, but I didn't wait longer than 20 minutes. There's really no menu on site, so you can kind of just listen to what people are ordering and figure out what sounds good. Originally, I was going to get two sandwiches, but I saw the size of them and decided we really only needed one full one. I got the gravy on the size, which I definitely recommend if you're going to be eating it even just a little bit later. This worked well for us, as we had about a 20 minute drive home. The mozz was fantastic and so was the roast beef. I would come back just to order both by the pound. I didn't love the bread, so I think my next step would be to just buy all the ingredients myself and then provide my own bread at home. Service was very prompt and friendly.

I had been saying for days that I was craving a good Italian deli sandwich, and my partner came across Vito's & Son Italian Deli in Hoboken. Well, it does not get much more authentic than this. What an experience. You know how some Italian restaurants say they make you feel like family? At Vito's, we actually felt it the moment we walked in. The welcome was warm, genuine, and immediate -- the kind of hospitality that cannot be faked. As we browsed the extensive deli menu, I had to ask what "mutz" meant. I am from Chicago, where we usually say "mozz," so this was my first time seeing it written in what I can only call New Jersey-ian. Without hesitation, they gave us a sample of their fresh, in-house-made mozzarella, and it was absolute perfection -- soft, fresh, creamy, and exactly what fresh mozzarella should be. We took several subs to go, and every single one was delicious. I had The Vito's, which was incredibly satisfying -- packed with that classic Italian deli flavor and everything I had been craving in a sub, and then some. My partner had The Sophia Loren, which was also full of flavor and definitely worth ordering again. My mom had what I ordered as a custom Caprese sandwich since I could not find it on the extensive menu -- mutz, fresh basil, tomato, balsamic vinaigrette, and herbs. It was so fresh, simple, and delicious. We also tried the arancini. The traditional one brought back memories of what used to be some of the best arancini in Chicago at Monastero's, which sadly is no longer around. That is not a comparison I make lightly. The cheese arancini was also wonderful, and the sauce was divine. Personal preference: I could have used just a touch more salt in the sauce, but the flavor was still excellent. Of course, we could not leave without dessert. The cannoli had the perfect balance of softness and crunch, and the filling was delicious. And naturally, we had to take home a pound of that fresh mutz. When we got home, we turned the leftovers into the perfect little Italian deli dinner. We thinly sliced the remaining halves of the subs, added fresh mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, balsamic vinaigrette, and wine. It became a charcuterie-style dinner that felt like the perfect ending to the trip. Taking a detour through Hoboken was absolutely worth it. Some Italian restaurants claim to treat you like family, but at Vito's & Son, we truly felt it. We are already planning another stop on our next trip because we still need to try the homemade freezer dishes -- and, of course, the homemade tiramisu. If you have not been to Vito's & Son Italian Deli, do yourself a favor and go. Authentic, welcoming, delicious, and completely worth the detour.
