You'll be hard pressed to find a better beignet anywhere in else in the Denver area. I have tested this theory many times and keep coming back to Lucile's. They are light, fluffy, delicious, sugary with just the right amount of dough. They are best eaten fresh right there, and don't make that rookie mistake by inhaling and coughing into that mound of powdered sugar! We also always get one of their Benedict's. My daughter ordered the Eggs Jennifer with crispy potatoes which goes well with their homemade ketchup. You gotta try it. My dad and I shared the bowl of gumbo. Gotta have some with their homemade hot sauce. Yummy roux. And my husband's fave is the sausage gravy. My fork tends to wander around the table so I feel like it was a very fulfilling meal! Service is always friendly and I love all of the Mardi Gras and N'Orleans decorations. I even recognized the picture of Lafitte's bar, the oldest bar in New Orleans on their wall that's a local legend that used to serve pirates. I would LOVE if Lucile's would take over the open spot on Simms, north of 6th, that used to be Campfire Lakewood. Therefore, today the Sausage family dines together at Lucile's after a big morning of moving. We are hongry! We start with a round of beignets. Heavenly delights with mounds of white sugar like Scarface in heaven. Maple Sausage flutters her eyes and exclaims "The dough was fluffy on the inside but crispy on the outside like a good tortoise that's been at the zoo for 100 years and you've come to form a parasocial relationship with. Every time you return, it's there." We've also ordered a round of beverages, as varied in colors as the rainbow on a rainy sunny day. Silly Sausage has ordered the chicory coffee. "Chicory notes. Violin. Fur Elise." Lil Chile Sausage has ordered the fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice. "It's magical. Sorcerer's apprentice from Fantasia, for sure. Like when the waters from the well flood, but it's grapefruit juice. I'm drinking the grapefruit juice to stop the flooding." And Cutie Pie Sausage sips on his Bloody Mary. "Top 3 bloody Mary's ever. Other top 2 are in Idaho springs and urban farmer. Pickle spice is awesome. THICK TOMATO!!" Oohhh... Ahh... The flavors are resplendent! But wait... Our entrees are arriving! Maple and I have ordered the red beans and rice. Maple slurps her beans and chews her rice, but breaks to consume her biscuit all in go. "The biscuit was unreal. Rb&r are delicious. Sausage has a little bit of spice, but not an overwhelming amount of spice... Like a jazz band walking down Bourbon Street in my mouth. I can hear 'When the Saints go Marching in...'" Lil Chile has ordered the blackened salmon plate. While speaking to his fish and asking for blessing to consume it's flesh, he remarks "Wow! I'm properly full. Nice notes of spicy and Louisiany. I feel like Shia Labeouf - I'm ready to rage! I'm ready to choke someone out." Silly has ordered the blackened salmon po boy. As she wraps up eating her meal, the voice of The Spirit of Food speaks through her, "It tasted like Mardi gras. I was getting the beads... You know what I was doing to get the beads" And finally, Cutie Pie has ordered the Biscuits and sausage and gravy. He leans back in his chair, full as can be. "It was overly indulgent, but I'm highly satisfied. I feel like a hippo, not a violent hippo, that needs to sleep." Life is so short and community feels out of reach. The world is in flames and we stare into our phones to obsess over humanity's self-hatred. BUT when we take moments to help each other, our neighbors, our family, our friends, hope is actively restored to the world and love is a contagious disease that you are coughing on your peers. First time here, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Unless you really want a table, the bar has plenty of seating and gives you quicker access. Honestly, it was harder to find parking than it was to grab a spot at the bar. Service was quick once we sat down, and our waitress was great at pointing out favorites and recommendations. We followed her lead, and she did not steer us wrong. They start you off with a "biscuit," though it's really more like a slice of fluffy, cloud‑like deliciousness. Add a little butter and their homemade jam-- I tried the strawberry and the orange marmalade, both wonderfully flavorful without being overly sweet. The potatoes were good, but I had originally asked for plain grits, which they brought out right away. I'm glad I got to try both. The salmon was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. And the grits--my first time having them--were surprisingly delicious. I'm happy to report I'll be coming back for more. The biscuits and gravy are to die for. The biscuit is fluffy but has heft and tons of flavor. The gravy is better than any other gravy I know. I think about it regularly. We also enjoyed the beignets that have great consistency with just the right amount of crisp and doughy proportions and covered in an obscene amount of powdered sugar. We loved the spacious feeling, the cottage home decor, and the friendly service. It's tucked behind the main road so I never knew this place was back there. We HAD to start with coffee and beignets. They were hot, crispy, fluffy, and far from anything you'll find at Disneyland (in the best way possible). The best compliment - they weren't too sweet. The perfect balance of fried goodness and powdered sugar. And if you need an extra punch, they have a stewed apple jam on the table for your liking. I tried their Cajun Breakfast and it was a great dish to gobble up their homemade hot sauce. The only "but" I have is that the breakfast was quite plain in flavor. You needed to add the hot sauce. Came for breakfast because since I have been living here in Colorado I have been wanting to go. Finally the day has come! The place give you a vibe like you are in another century because the house takes you there. The service it's friendly. The place is pretty big and cozy. What surprised me the most was the coffee to be honest. It was strong and delicious. My partner had the French toast, sausage and egg plate and I went to adventure with the creamy spinach egg Benedict and I had to say it wasn't my favorite. That's my fault for going for something new hahaha. I just didn't like the creamy spinach. Was too much for me. I want to go back because I don't want to judge this place because of my mistake of making wrong selection. Lucille's is a fine place to go for breakfast or brunch. Not great, but satisfying. The beignets are hot and tasty. The juice is fresh-squeezed. The chai is on the sweet side. The entrees and sandwiches are fresh and good-sized, but, frankly, underseasoned -- tasting more of their (good) component parts than a unified dish. Service was friendly and very good -- there were a couple of bobbles in what was brought out, but they were immediately fixed, no problem. The ambience at this Lucille's is a bit meh -- not much creole/cajun feel to it -- but the space was comfortable, and there's a large inside waiting area for the (very long) lines. We arrived at Noon on a Sunday; were told it would be 45 minutes; it ended up more like 30. More outdoor seating (for waiting) would be helpful. Net-net, I won't object to going to this Lucille's again if our friends suggest it, but it's a bit of a drive, and quite a bit of a wait, and honestly there are breakfast places I like more, so I won't rush right out to return, either. read more

I have lived within 10 minutes of this restaurant for over a decade and I've never tried it before because 1) it looked from the outside a little old fashioned 2) I wasn't sure I liked creole food. We walked here this morning - there's trail access from the river. Got here at 9am and had no wait, our server and the host who I think is also the manager were lovely. The food! We had to order the beignets, they were thick and warm. The biscuits and gravy were slightly spicy and the biscuit was fantastic. Light and fluffy. The pancakes were top notch, fluffy and flavorful. My son and I had breakfast at Lucille's the other day. I haven't been to a Lucille's in years, and never to this location. This location is a lot bigger than the one off Alameda but still has lots of Nee Orleans/Mardi Gras decorations. Because we went mid-morning during the week, they weren't busy, which was great. We shared a Pain Perdue, which was plenty of food for me and a toddler. I really liked the praline syrup- yum! The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly too, and the fruit it came with balanced the rest of the breakfast nicely- made it seem healthy ;). I did find the recyclable/ bag fee strange- we ate in the restaurant and didn't get anything togo. But our server got a big table as we were trying to leave so was pretty busy and it was only 25 cents. So not sure if it was a mistake or if that's a normal part of the bill regardless of if you get takeout. read more

Great find on my visit to Littleton. Had me feeling like I was in NOLA for a minute with the decor and vibes too! Friends brought me here for a little brunch. With a line out the door, we put our names down and went for a stroll Downtown before circling back just in time to nab our table. Service was on point, bringing drinks, refilling water, and running food at lightspeed. We ordered some coffee, a bloody mary, and of course, bengiets! These fluffy buddies showed up fast, hot and fresh, and absolutely covered in powdered sugar. They were delicious and I could've made a breakfast of these alone, especially with the housemade strawberry rhubarb and orange marmalades. I opted for the red beans breakfast, which came with choice of grits, potatoes or both, so I got both, and a biscuit. The red beans had wonderful flavor but a bit salty for my taste. I enjoyed eating them with the grits, but the potatoes were overkill on the starch. In general I found all the food a little salty, but maybe that's me. The biggest disappointment was the biscuit. I absolutely love biscuits but this one was not the light, fluffy, and flakey kind I crave. Instead it was bouncy, chewy and doughy, none of which I expect to find in a biscuit. We went here on a Sunday at 9am with a party of 6 and an infant and luckily were able to get in right away. The little waiting area is cute and it is very nice you are able to get coffee/speciality cocktails there while you wait. I like the way this Lucile's is laid out in comparison to some of the others, as you are really spaced out from other tables and not on top of one another. We started with two orders of the beignets and a liter of the fresh squeezed OJ which are always great. Two members also got bloody Mary's, one with the pickle infused vodka, and the other without, but both were good, however, the pickles on both were very spicy. For entrees we then got the creole omelette, eggs Benedict, eggs Eisenhower, and the Cajun breakfast. I've been to Lucile's multiple times over the years, and the food and service is consistently good. We arrived on Easter Sunday, 9am, party of two and were seated right away. (A bit of a wait in the front when we left at 10, so recommend getting there early!) The restaurant itself used to be a spacious house or small church with high ceilings, and it has a cozy feel. I ordered the Eggs Jennifer on gluten free English muffin, with the hollandaise on the side and add ham (our check rang up my meal as the "Bennifer" ) and cheese grits. It was amazing, per the usual! My husband ordered the Cajun Breakfast with cheese grits and he raved about his meal, too. Always a great pick! This is my meeting place a few of my girlfriends. I've been here several times and they are always spot on!! My friend and I got the eggs Jennifer, I got the grits with cheese and jalepenos because it's my favorite! My other friend got the avacado toast and it looked delicious!! It came with a big serving of fresh greens. Our server Cammie, was the best!! The restaurant itself was more old fashioned, however, the food was great. The beignets tasted amazing, and for the value, it was a good deal. This has been a family favorite for some time. It is consistently good each time we go. Their bloody Mary's are delicious, and their servers are always friendly. Front of house hosts could maybe be a bit friendlier. We love their fried home style potatoes, and of course their massive biscuits. This last time the biscuits were oddly chewy, as if they were microwaved. Eggs cooked just barely under with some clear bits of egg white, but overall delicious. We shall return again.
