This place is a gem! The atmosphere is nice, the service is excellent and the food I had was amazing. I had tomato bisque (it came with a half grilled cheese!) and the arugula goat cheese salad. Both were excellent and flavorful, and the soup was even good when I ate it the next day, cold, while traveling. My companion's crab cakes and Cesar salad were great, too. Everything was really fresh and flavorful. We split the brown sugar pound cake for dessert, and bourbon buttermilk glaze was something I wish I could just eat with a spoon from a jar, like, all the time. read more

We had a great time with friends tonight at Lucilla, we arrived a few minutes before our company, and the staff was very quick to make sure we had waters and bread on the table before the rest of our party arrived. We started with the fried oysters and pimiento cheese fritters, they did not sit on the table long, we loved them. Myself and the other distinguished gentleman at the table both ordered the Bradley's Smoked Pork Chop and we both cleaned our plates, my wife ordered the Filet medium and it was cooked perfect! Tried this restaurant with some friends. Food and service was very good. Had to wait for a table to clear and hostess took a drink order while we waited. Fried oysters were some of the best I've had. I also had the snapper, which was also very good. Portion of fish could have been a bit larger against the amount of potatoes. We were recommended to come here by a friend and we were shocked! This restaurant is very quaint yet we definitely felt like we were having an upscale intimate dinner. Don't let the location and smaller size fool you--it's 5 star quality. First off, our reservation was ready to go the second we got there. There are cute little lamps on the tables that feel like a candle lit dinner. Our waitress was very attentive. We got the pimiento cheese balls on a whim and if you go you MUST get these. We had already inhaled two of them immediately before I could take the photo. The bourbon peach glaze is exquisite and the aioli is amazing. Then, they brought out amazing bread with softened butter and continuously offered more to us. Then we got the filet mignon. It is pan seared in a cast iron but they capture a smoky flavor so well it tasted like it was grilled. And FINALLY--an establishment that cooks steaks to order. My medium rare steak and his medium steak were perfect!! And we savored every bite but left room for dessert--the most amazing bread pudding. The best bread pudding I have ever had! I am giving 5 stars for the avocado toast dish. It is a pleasant spot, convenient for me but I don't eat out very often. My friend was hungry and we were right there. Friend had a very good friend (boneless thigh) chicken sandwich with delicious brussels sprout slaw on it. The pile of skinny french fries on the plate was too salty, couldn't eat them. But I struck gold with the avocado toast. A slice of toasted rye bread, a half of avocado, a perfectly cooked poached egg, delicious aioli sauce & topped with arugula and micro greens. I wish I could have that every day. Thanks much for the fine experience. I saw lots of other dishes delivered to other patrons - they all looked good but large and heavy for my taste. Oh. My. Gosh. This place is delicious! We went on a Saturday evening (and we got a reservation), and we enjoyed every single second. The food is just incredible. We started with the pimento cheese fritter (you MUST order these), and the bruschetta (tasty, but not a must-have). The entrees we recommend are: anything they have on special. We had the shrimp and grits and as a true southerner I can confidently say these were the absolute BEST I've ever had. I also recommend the spring vegetable vol-au-vent as a nice, light, tasty meal. The green hill chicken is also a good choice (anything that supports another local business, Sweet Grass, is a winner in my books). I really really wanted to order a dessert, but I was too full. I cannot wait to go back again! Side note: don't be put off by the weird location or the odd building. It's in the same building Sahara used to be in, and they've definitely attempted to dress it up. read more

Lucilla serves locally sourced, fresh items. Today's visit we tried their French Onion soup topped with bread and sliced gruyere cheese. The beef broth base was very flavorful with a good onion mix. I would order this again. I had the snapper st. Charles (see photo of the menu for ingredients) and it was beautifully presented. I enjoyed the microgreens sprinkled on the top and the potatoes and sauce. It was a nice lunch portion. Hubby had "the burger" which was huge! It came sprinkled with lightly fried onion straws and had the makings for a manly burger with bacon and a pickled green tomato slice. The bun bottom was a bit soggy and i am not sure how to prevent that with a burger of this size. The specials sounded wonderful but I went in knowing that I wanted to try the snapper. Our waitress was just as cute and friendly as she could be but when we were finished, she got busy. We waited a long time to be recognized so we could get our check and to go containers. Then it took a while longer to get checked out. Someone mentioned that the staff boxes your food to go but this was not the case in our visit. The food was good and I want to try different menu items but at $42 for lunch (with water to drink) it was steep for every day. The little misstep at the end of a meal with the delay caused me to give them 4 stars. Make no mistake, I will be back! read more

I got the impression from some of the food that the chef has a great palate and creativity to spare, but it didn't carry through the entire menu. The service was understated and just right in my opinion. The prices are at the upper range for Tallahassee. For me, there were only a few interesting things on the already very limited menu. Having now tried them, I probably won't be back to experiment further. As for the food: The Snapper was great and that's what I would recommend to anyone going in for a first try. This is not something you could easily recreate at home, and it had a great combination of creative and contrasting flavors. Very attractively presented as well! A+ On the other hand, the filet mignon was good but did not knock it out of the park by any means. It was perfectly cooked with an excellent sear and just the right temperature. On the other hand, the demi-glace was more like a gravy, kind of bland, and very very salty - like WOW salty. It came with a too giant helping of mashed potatoes and some asparagus - boring and easy. I wish the creativity of the fish dish was present here. Also Quinoa Vegetarian Paella??? This town needs a real Paella offering somewhere, so that was a missed opportunity. I'd return many, many times over for an authentic seafood paella! I really like what you all are attempting overall at Lucilla's and hope you continue to improve! read more

Great Birthday Dinner! Charming place right off Apalachee Parkway. Right as you enter the door and notice the open dining area with a view of the kitchen, you can tell Lucilla is a stand-up place. We started with the Pimiento Cheese Fritters, which were out of this world good. Along with this, the complimentary bread is warm and fresh, also unbelievably tasty. I had the Green Hill Chicken, which was light and flavorful. My date, being a vegetarian, had the Portobello Steak-Frites, which was incredible. We finished with the Chocolate w/ Nutella icing Cupcake, and the key lime creme brûlée. It's hard to pick a highlight of the meal when it was all so tasty and well put together. It is on Lafayette Street which is an older part of town, but when you get inside it was very modern, clean, upscale. Menu is great! I had Miso Maple Salmon. Delicious! The fried oysters were really good as well. My husband and another couple had Shrimp and scallops. Everyone had a dish that was prepared slightly different than you have had before. Basically, the food was stellar. My husband and I had lunch - crab cake appetizer, snapper entree, fried chicken sandwich special - and every bite was absolutely delectable. And not to give them any ideas but $15 for an exquisite piece of snapper and so delicately prepared is extremely reasonable. This is probably one of my new favorite date night locations! The ambient of the restaurant is so calming. The decorations are beautiful and clean. The menu isn't too extensive, but what they do have is executed perfectly. I got one of their vegan options, the veloute with spring veggies. The vegetables used were expertly paired and the puff pastry was so airy and light. It was absolutely delightful! My boyfriend got the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. The plating of all the food was so artistic. Dylan was our server and I'll make sure I continue to have him. He did such a great job at guiding us through the menu and described everything so well. Hidden Gem is an understatement! This place is so great, although we almost didn't go in. The building looks like a former Pizza Hut painted a dull gray and windows that do not allow you to look in. We decided to try it anyway and I m so glad we did. Our server Anna was great. We asked for recommendations and they were all spot on. We had an appetizer, salads and a main course. We were stuffed as the portions are all very generous but we were anxious to see what they could do with dessert so we got a Hummingbird Cake to go. We had never had it before which is why we tried it and it lived up to the rest of the meal. Homemade and loved every morsel. If you are in Tallahassee-I highly recommend this place. read more
