Had lunch here while working in Modesto because it was nearby my location. Pretty disappointing Chinese but the price for the amount of food was great. We called in an order for pick up, when I got there 15 minutes later it was ready and waiting. The 2 combo plates probably weighed 4 lbs in the bag. I honestly have no idea but it was hefty. The gentleman who helped me was also very nice and prompt. Unfortunately, the food was pretty lackluster. My orange chicken was miles away from crispy and the sauce was kind of bland. Also the chicken itself had that gross old chicken flavor that usually only comes from reheated chicken. The chow mein was also pretty bland. They did give chili sauce and soy sauce with the order, and adding those 2 things in spades did help with the lack of flavor. The cheese puffs were also disappointing. There was a good amount of crab in them, which is unusual for cheese puffs, however, the wrapper was thick and not crispy at all, mostly chewy, so all the enjoyable texture you expect wasn't there. My spouse had a combo with fried rice, beef & broccoli, and fried prawns. He liked it well enough but agreed it was pretty mediocre. The fried rice was pretty good but the beef & broccoli left a lot to be desired. In spite of the so so food, it's such a great price that it may be worth it to you. If you need a lot of food for not a lot of money, and you don't have high quality standards, this place will definitely take care of you. read more

First let me say my hubby was right the lil hole in the wall places have the best Chinese food . Came across this lil gem on our way back from the Turlock flea market . So glad we did the food was piping hot and super fresh tasting best flavored Chinese food I've had in a long time . Big portions too . We ordered the kung Pao chicken , chicken fried rice , house chow mein ,pot stickers, and popcorn chicken . We ate a good portion at the restaurant and not exaggerating we brought home enough for the next two days . We will definitely be back . read more

My first time here, I order a combination plate and wasn't aware that it came with a free appetizer until I over heard another customer who choose fries as his free appetizer. We tried this place last week. Let me say, you get a TON of food for the price. However it's just... bland. Nothing really has any distinguishable flavor. Rice was old and hard. When I went to eat my leftovers the next day, I took a few bites and had no desire to finish it and wound up, throwing it away. One combo plate could easily serve two people for lunch. if you don't mind doctoring your plates with hot sauce and soy sauce and giving it more flavor yourself, then you won't be disappointed with the amount you receive for the price. Not a huge fan of the chow mien, but is not the flavor. The flavor is top notch, but I'm a texture girl. Most places I'm not fond of the chow mien, so that's not a surprise. This place is located on Yosemite Blvd in the heart of the sketchiest area of Modesto, but don't let that deter you from trying this place out. It is THE hidden gem of the Chinese food industry. I initially tried this place because I was searching for the best Wor Wonton soup. I have tried at least 10 places in Modesto/Ceres and this place won hands down; like they blew the other places away. I then tried other menu items and I have never been disappointed. They have a combo plate section that not only lets you choose 1 or 2 entrees, but it allows you to choose an appetizer as well; ranging from foil wrapped chicken to fried fish or prawns to egg rolls. There are 18 choices of entrees to choose from that most other places don't even offer on their combo plates. Prices for the combos range from $7.25-$9.25 and the servings are GINORMOUS . The restaurant itself isn't really inviting as far as location and interior goes, but it's family owned, the service is awesome, the food is cooked fresh with fresh ingredients and if you live nearby, they also deliver for free if you order $20 worth of food. We ordered a family meal from here and for the price, I couldn't believe how much food we got! Every thing was pretty good, nothing overly amazing about it. I did love their sweet and sour pork, chicken fried rice combo chow mein were all good. I did however not care for their general tso's chicken. I'm spoiled and very particular about my (American) Chinese food. This place over all was ok and like I said previously, the prices are so cheap! I ordered our food from DoorDash. The outside surrounding area is not the best looking, but the service from the employee upfront was friendly, and the location looked clean for the most part. I did enjoy the chow mein because their noodles are thicker than your usual ones, but the orange chicken was just okay. We got the dinner for five on New Year's Eve (a tradition in our household). This was our first NYE in town and decided to try a place close to home. The food was actually really good! The place doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but the food will change your mind. The amount that you get with the dinners was enormous as well. Well Yelpers I'd LOVE to give this place a ZERO RATING...But because I cant...My family was hungry, nobody felt like cooking or going out. So I say "Hey, let's order delivery." I also explained that one of the entrees was missing and again he asks me what I want him to do. I explained to him that he was the business that I was utilizing and that he needed to tell me what he was going to do. He said that they would make another entree and deliver. Here we are 45 minutes later...still no entree and better yet we had decided that we didn't want it as the food that we did eat was HORRIBLE!!! Has been my go to place for the past 4 years now. Definitely worth trying their salt and pepper wings they are so great as well as their salt and pepper pork. If you are not big on chow mein try their thin crispy noodles all I ever order. They are one of the fastest Chinese places in town and definitely a hidden gem you will return to. Eat there three times. First time was just OK, except the too go food was full of juice that they didn't warm me about, the bag had holes in it, so the juice ran all over my spotless, immaculate classic car! . The second time I ordered a full meal of their General Chicken. Their General Chicken tasted like Orange Chicken, was in just chicken & sauce. And the chicken was sooo over cooked I could hardly chew it! . Finally, I ordered the Baked Fish. Asked if I could please get the Tartar sauce that the photo showed. They said yes, so I ordered it to Go. Asked them to please put the receipt in the bad. They said they did. When I got a couple of miles to my destination, I open the bag. No receipt!!! The fish is cold!!! No tartar sauce!!! What's worse, the only sauce is sweet & sour sauce, which is full of sugar and color dies, which are excito-toxins!!! The fish tasted terrible, and it was hard as a rock from being over cooked, that I brock a tooth trying to chew it!!! And that was all there was, just cold, bland, hard as stone over cooled fish. Let me sum it up right in the beginning. The place is a total dive that serves great Chinese food. I give the food 4 stars and the real estate 2; guess that averages to 3. Husband and wife owned and operated. She greets and waits. He cooks. But he won't so much as cut a carrot until someone orders something. Which means everything is made fresh and precisely to order. My husband and I decided to try this place out since it is so close to home. I got the combo plate with garlic chicken, and won tons. I thought the pork fried rice and chow mein lacked flavor. The won tons and garlic chicken were delicious. For two meals for $11.95 can't beat that. My husband agreed that East China Town is still number #1 in our book.
