I had a much different experience than some of the other people that have reviewed. My breakfast burrito was full of sausage. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it at first because the first couple bites were all potatoes and eggs and the potatoes weren't really seasoned, but definitely better once I got to the sausage. Decent burrito that I would get again. We also got a patty melt that was pretty good. Definitely greasy, but what you would expect from a fried sandwich. Did some research before our trip to Pasadena and found that Lucky Boys was known for their "Breakfast Burritos". In fact the sign coming into the restaurant proudly said the same. Being from San Diego, I know a thing or two about breakfast burrito's so I got excited to try theirs. The location reminds me of the mom and pop taco shops you find everywhere. Walk up window to order with seating on the patio. To be honest, from the outside the location looks old (which it is). But if I am comparing to the taco shops i'm used to...that just means the food is GOOD! Lucky Boys was a huge menu. It's kind of like an old school drive-in burger stop, with the addition of Mexican taco shop traditional's (burrito, quesadilla, rolled tacos). For me, the food was OK. The burrito was good, but did not blow me away. The best part of my meal was the chili cheese fries! Having said that, we visited on a late night, almost 11pm and this place was non-stop packed with people. Individuals and groups. There's also not too many "fast food" type places in the area. Would I visit again? I think my goal in Pasadena would be to find a nice sit down restaurant first. I've tried a fair amount of breakfast burritos in LA, and I think Lucky Boy's is overall good with room for improvement. The "Famous Breakfast Burrito" comes loaded with eggs, cheese, hash browns, ham, and your choice of bacon or sausage, all in a generous portion size. The eggs are cooked perfectly, not overdone at all. But, a bit more seasoning would really help. The bacon's cooked perfectly crispy. The tortilla didn't fall apart and wasn't chewy like other places. The only big letdown of the burrito was the hash browns. They don't really have that golden brown crust and could have also used more seasoning. They felt more like a steamed potato than hash browns, which was a bit disappointing. Also the salsa was pretty lackluster, adding nothing significant to the burrito (lacked both spice and flavor). But, it's served on the side, so you can skip it if you prefer. The inside is mainly made up of diner booths, but it's more of a self-serve experience. You place your order at the counter, they'll call your number when ready, and then you can sit in one of the booths or take it outside to one of their tables. They have their own parking lot and service is friendly and efficient. With some improvements in seasoning and better hash browns, this could really become a contender for one of my favorite breakfast burritos. read more

My wife came in CLUTCH during a boozy Saturday evening with not just one, but TWO absolute units of breakfast burritos. Boy, did I feel lucky myself. I ALMOST started to believe that they named the place after me because I felt like I was a lucky boy. Brooooooooo. Lucky Boy offers quantity *and* quality when it comes to these suckers. I would typically never order a burrito with bacon, but it was the most bacon I've ever had in such a burrito. And the bacon wasn't exceedingly salty or anything. Amidst all the soft fillings (eggs, cheese, etc) the bacon was a welcome crunchy, savory texture in every single bite. More importantly, everything was the perfect ratio of ingredients. The second burrito was sausage and surprise surprise. We have another winner. The sausage/links they use aren't salty either. Like I mentioned earlier, an absolute unit of a burrito. A big boye, if you will. If it were any bigger I'd use this thing as a body pillow... Actually, that's kind of a great idea. An edible body pillow you can just take bites out of while you snooze away. And of course, no meal wouldn't be complete without a side of fried zucchinis. Pretty good. I like the way they're small. Sorta like fries. Makes it easier to SHOVE into your mouth by the FISTFUL after dunking them into the sweet, sweet, white nectar that is diner ranch. By the way, this was after reheating them after being refrigerated overnight. We nuked them and threw them onto a ripping hot pan and toasted every side. Perfection. After about a 20 minute wait for one order of cheese fries, I went inside to ask how much longer it would be. It has that older diner look from the outdoor ordering patio and the color scheme, but the prices of present day, haha! It was definitely large, so it is kind of cool to get a huge burrito, but the salsa I also found to be only okay, and when it's the only flavor around, you just kind of go with it. I went at 8:30 am on a Sunday and the parking was only half full and I only waited a little bit since there were only two people in line in front of me. While in Pasadena, we looked for good breakfast places in the area and came across Lucky Boy. Reading the reviews and seeing the pics, I knew we had to try them. We came in the morning and were guided by a parking attendant where to park in their lot. Place gets crazy busy so be prepared for a crowd. There's a small covered patio with some tables out front and a walk up counter for take-out orders. It was slightly confusing at first on who was waiting to order and who was waiting for their food as it gets a little tight with the crowd. Evidently there's also an indoor counter with seating if you want to stay but it seems the majority get their food to go. The wait wasn't bad at all and we were out of there in no time. We got 2 bacon breakfast burritos with came with a generous amount of sauce and utensils. Ten bucks for a burrito though - is it worth it? Surprisingly yes! The hype is real folks. One of the best breakfast burritos I've had! We were too excited to take pictures but the pics you've seen online are real - these are so huge! It was literally the size of my forearm filled to the brim with tasty goodness! I've come to Lucky Boy a couple of times now and it's been hit-or-miss. Service is always quick. My personal opinion is that their portions are generally large for their price point. I should have known that the best taquitos are in Boyle Heights, but went outside the sphere of influence and tried Pasadena, a big mistake. The taquitos were the smallest I've ever ordered from a restaurant and were the type you get from the freezer section at a grocery store.
