One of my favorite sandwich spots in Pasadena. I've had the chance to meet the owner twice, and both times he was incredibly kind and welcoming. You can tell he genuinely cares about his customers and the community. I also appreciate the variety on the menu. There's something for everyone. I've tried several of their drinks, including the milkshake, the green drink, the beet drink, and the Ginger Gobana. Every one of them was fresh and delicious. The Perry's Classic Detroit hot dog was bomb and I added jalapeños which was the cherry on top for me. The chili, the sausage, and the jalapeños all came together perfectly. It was messy in the best way and packed with flavor. The staff has always been friendly, the gentlemen with who is tall, long hair, (forgot his name) making our sandwiches was awesome. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. The Hey Joe is exactly my kind of sandwich. It's loaded with pastrami, roast beef, hot links, and more. Big, hearty, and absolutely delicious. The biggest surprise for me was the tuna sandwich. I honestly don't like tuna, but one guy making the sandwiches told me to trust him and give it a try. I'm so glad I did because it was hands down the best tuna sandwich I've ever had. It completely changed my expectations. We've also had the Hip Bird & Chicken Mingus our first time here which also really good. I forgot to take pictures of all the items I listed because It looked so good I dove right in!

The quality pastrami is so good & juicy! They are absolutely delicious! I need to come back on a Thursday - Sunday to try their tri tip sandwich! IT TOOK ONE HOUR JUST TO GET MY SANDWICH. Ten minutes wait just to place an order after the customer before me ordered and 50+ minutes just to get my food. I understand they were really busy but the irritating part was the lack of notice or heads up it would be a long wait. Had my coworkers and I known it would take this long we would have gone somewhere else. Even when placing an order, not even an acknowledgment of "hey, thanks for waiting, I'll be right with you," nothing. The best (worst) part is after all this, they gave me the WRONG FOOD. I ordered the hip bird and they gave me whatever this is. I love to support small businesses and I hate to be the one to leave a bad review but there were a lot of frustrated customers today, not just me. This is not it you guys, sorry (not sorry). It's not worth the long wait and bad service.
Food was so good! We got a tri tip sandwich, the hip max and hot link American hot dog! The Tri tip and hot dog were our favorites! So much flavor but not over power! Service was great. Took a little long but overall nothing terrible. Plus I think them taking long definitely shows they put a lot of time and effort in their sandwiches! The place is fairly clean as well. Definitely would comeback!
WOW TALK ABOUT HIDDEN GEMS!!! This one is IT. Mind you we leave near by and have never visited this place up until recently. They have sandwiches, hot dogs, smoothies and ice cream. Also healthy green juices! We came in on a whim, I got the roast beef sandwhich, my husband got a turkey sandwich. Both were MEATY HEARTY and a mouth FULL. YUMMY FLAVOR and fresh ingredients! The ambiance is easy and welcoming, the people working have a smile on their face from the moment you open the door to upon completing your order. The jazz vibes are a super sweet touch. JOHN COLTRANE. Enough said. Pick up to go or come in and sit down to eat they have space. This place is a GEM. Upon reviewing I found they have other locations... we will definitely be visiting soon!

Inside was nice and quiet Workers were chill and sandwich pros Definitely coming back! Big band is where it's at Big Joe looks good but feel like the hot link over takes the flavor!
Another stellar sandwich from Perry's. Roast beef on toasted Squaw bread, with lettuce avocado extra tomatoes and cucumber. All the veggies were crisp and delicious. I have a small complaint that it seemed salty so next time I'll make sure to ask that they don't salt anything. Nonetheless it was a delicious refreshing sandwich. Great service and it was lovely to sit in an air conditioned room while I waited, away from the heat
We were looking for a place to stop by along the way and wanted to try this out. We went ahead to order in advance by placing our order through the phone, which is pretty convenient tbh. When we got there, we found it's located in a medical plaza, so it's not at an obvious place to find! Street parking would be your best bet. The joint itself was very spacious, ample of tables, but also many others waiting for their order. We saw that even though we placed our phone order ahead, it seemed like the employees were working pretty slowly... which makes sense for the hold up of people waiting for their sandwiches. Getting our sandwiches, we got the Hip Bird and the Hey Joe sandwich. Honestly the Hip Bird is a very classic sandwich, although I wish there was more avocado on it. Everything tasted fresh but the more I ate, the more I thought about how I could've just made this sandwich at home lol. Nothing too impressive, but it's not really worth the price you're paying for it unless you're lazy. Also the mustard sauce in it didn't seem like it enhanced it that much. Wish there was something more special about it. As for the Hey Joe, it's definitely all the meats in one sandwich that my bf enjoys, but that destroyed him LOL it was so heavy, very greasy, just heart clogging. The sandwich is good, but makes you feel pretty terrible about yourself (unless you enjoy it all the way). Otherwise, service was mid, sandwiches are okay. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit here again.

We came in for a sandwich after my husband found them on Yelp. We entered and were greeted as we browsed their menu posted above their counter. We ordered a Hey Joe sandwich to share and a cherry lemonade. I was reluctant to order that large of a sandwich but my husband wanted it so I went along with his choice. It took a while for our sandwich to be ready, but it was worth the wait. It was filled with pastrami, roast beef, melted cheese, and a hot link. I ate a quarter of it and my husband had no problem finishing the rest of it. The restaurant seemed to be popular with locals as we saw a number of take out orders, as well as diners inside and on their patio. If in the area, I'd stop in again. Street parking, but be careful of traffic if you need to cross the street.
I typically only write reviews when I'm happy. But, today I'm a Karen. We arrived at 1:00 on a Saturday- post lunch rush. There were 5 people in line. Not super busy. We ordered food at 1:16. TWO sandwiches - a turkey and a roast beef. Once the 5 customers ordered, hardly anyone came in to order - maybe 3-5 people. We got our food at 2:13 (see photo receipt). (Maybe wouldn't have been as irritated if they gave us a heads up when we ordered that they were backed up/behind) Sandwich was a large portion but for 30 bucks and an hour wait, not worth it. Turkey was thin and slimy. Roast beef came with onions - which wasn't listen on the menu, and totally soggy. We had an hour drive home and decided to stop here because the reviews were good and thought we would get a quick bite. Would have been better off driving all the way home and making our own sandwiches. It's not like they're baking the bread fresh and slaughtering the turkey in the back. We watched them make the sandwhiches on sliced bread out of a bag. If you have nothing to do all day - take a chance. If you've got places to be or haven't eaten in hours, maybe try somewhere else.
There is street parking in front of the restaurant. They have both indoor and outdoor patio seating. I tried the guru sandwhich which is a hot sandwhich on wheat bread. It was so delicious. Lots of fillings. Juicy meat with crunch vegetables. I really liked the sandwhich. Staff is very nice there. It was a very hot day and he offered me a cup to get iced water. Very spacious inside.

Perry's Joint Café was hands down one of the best dining experiences I've had and honestly, I think it's the best sandwich shop in Pasadena! From the moment my daughter and I walked in, we were welcomed like family. The customer service was outstanding. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made sure we felt taken care of the entire time. They kept us updated on our order, letting us know when our food was almost ready, which I really appreciated. The restaurant is beautiful, spotless, and has such a warm, welcoming atmosphere with lots of character and culture. It feels like a place where people genuinely care about their customers. One thing that really stood out was how kind they were to my daughter. They even gave her a sticker, which made her day and showed how thoughtful they are with families. My daughter and I absolutely loved our experience, and we'll definitely be coming back. If you're looking for delicious food, amazing customer service, and a place that truly makes you feel at home, Perry's Joint Café is a must-visit. Highly recommend! read more

Very few places live up to their hype. Perry's has phenomenal food offerings. I've seen numerous complaints about order processing, but I planned ahead and had zero problems. I simply picked my sandwich and phoned my order in. Took all of 2 mins to collect it, about 15 mins later. Staff was super friendly and the ambiance was great. I considered dining in. Happy I didn't, because it was so good, I'm confident I'd have looked like I'd never eaten before! Run, don't walk to Perry's! I'll be back! read more

First time coming here! It won't be the last :) Right when I entered the vibes were very sweet local. A lot of people waiting but no one seemed angry that they were waiting. The people at the counter were so friendly it felt like I was giving a friend my order. My sandwich was probably the best sandwich I ever had. They did take a bit longer for my son's chili cheese hot dog to come out but the lady at the counter was so sweet and gave him some ice cream for waiting. Definitely recommend. Just give yourself sometime if you're on your lunch because they do get busy. read more

Expertly crafted sandwiches overstuffed with goodness. We love coming to this little shop and supporting Altadena businesses. Perry is often present at the restaurant and stops by to say hello to customers. You just don't see that kind of personal attention much. He runs a great shop. I tried the veggie dog Detroit style. It's pretty good. Of course veggie dogs aren't the same thing as beef hot dogs, but putting on some delicious toppings makes it very enjoyable. Parking seems to be relegated to street parking. There is a lot behind the restaurant but it appears to be for the medical offices in the building. read more

Now that Pas Sandwich Co is gone I decided I needed to try a new local spot and Perry's Joint did not disappoint! Easy street parking, large building, clean and neat. The staff was super friendly while taking my order and started a little conversation while I waited for my food. The wait was a bit long considering it wasn't busy but I didn't mind much. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and they had no problem with my dog sitting on the patio with me. I loved the art they had on display, just a place with great vibes and great sandwiches. I was shocked by how phenomenal the pastrami was considering they're not a pastrami specific shop. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu! read more

Great little sandwich shop in a really cute part of Pasadena. I had the tuna sandwich they added onions and pickles, and my friends have the chicken salad sandwich. All were really good and fresh and delicious. I will be coming back next time. I'm in Pasadena. read more

I've tried the Hip Bird - turkey with lettuce, avocado on fresh dark wheat bread - and the Tri-Tip Sandwich, both of which were fantastic. The sandwiches are fresh, filling, and made with high-quality bread and condiments. Just a heads-up: order in advance and avoid the busy lunch hours, or be prepared to wait. This isn't a fast food joint, but it's definitely worth the wait! After the fires, please support this local, Black-owned business - you won't regret it! read more

I knew this place was going to be good because there were already a handful of people waiting to get in before it opened. I was not disappointed. Every ingredient was fresh and my sandwich looked like it had been assembled with love. Everyone was pleasant and had good customer service skills (a rarity these days). It's a little pricey since everything is a la cart...but totally worth it. I'll definitely come through again whenever I'm in the area. read more

Perfect spot if you're looking for a great Sammie made with care! The customer service is 10/10 because every employee is so kind and attentive. I sat on the patio with a friend and they were so kind to keep refilling my lemonade because we were there for a while. The sandwich I ordered was so stuffed with ingredients I felt like I was definitely getting my moneys worth. The bread was super fresh and the avocado was such a nice touch. Next time I'm going to order one with lettuce because it would add a nice crunch to each bite. I can't wait to go back. The cherry lemonade was boooomb too! read more

So good! I'm a big sandwich fan and this place has my approval. Perry's joint has a good selection of cold/hot sandwiches. They also sell hot dogs, nachos, and milkshakes/ice cream. I came for the sandwich and it was delicious and stuffed with my favorite toppings. We ordered the guru and it came cut in half. I only ate half and was already so full. My bf seemed to really enjoy it and kept saying it was so good. Like ok we get it lol! the ingredients tasted fresh and I really liked their pastrami. It wasnt too salty. My only complaint was that the to go bag was a paper bag and the sauces dripped through. Other than that, this place is pretty solid and I hope to come by again to try their other menu items. read more

Exceeded all my expectations (and they were high!) These are delicious, huge, lovingly crafted sandwiches. The ingredients are high quality, the menu is diverse and the vibe is classic Jazz. I had expected a little hole-in-the-wall kind of place, but this was a large, busy, clean establishment. In trying to decide what to order the very friendly man behind the register was offering suggestions - so I asked, are you Perry? He was! I got the Guru, which is pastrami and turkey. The blend of flavors was great. I also got a vanilla malt, which was thick and tasty. I'm excited to come back and try more stuff! read more

So good. I had no time to make lunch this morning so I checked out Perry's Joint nearby. I ordered the Tuna Simone/tuna melt on sourdough. This thing was HUUGE (which is great because I was starving). I could only eat half bc it was so big (excuse the janky picture). So delicious. The icing on the cake was the great customer service from the gentlemen working behind the counter. I highly recommend! read more

Today I had one of the sweetest and most unexpected experiences at Perry's Joint in Altadena. After leaving my daughter's dental appointment, we sat outside at one of their tables waiting for our lift. Just as we were sitting there, an employee came out with the warmest energy, asked me first if it was okay, and then offered my daughter some chocolate ice cream. Her face lit up instantly, and honestly, so did mine. It was such a thoughtful and genuine act of kindness, something you rarely experience these days. The moment I stepped inside Perry's, I already felt the comfort of a welcoming, community-centered space. They are known for their sandwiches, brunch options, ice cream, and more, but what makes them stand out is not just the food, it is the people. The employee even asked how my day was, and while I was so caught off guard in the best way that I kept my answer short, I wanted so badly to say more and express how much it meant to me. The only reason I did not stay longer to order something and share a real conversation was because our ride had just pulled up. That is okay though, because I will absolutely be back this Friday or Saturday to support a place that goes above and beyond in hospitality. Perry's is not just a restaurant, it is a reminder of what true customer service, kindness, and community feel like. If you are looking for incredible food, delicious brunch, sweet treats, and a place that makes you feel at home the moment you step in, Perry's Joint is it. read more
I heard about Perry's Joint and several weeks ago went by but they were closed/out of stock. Anyway, returned the other day and glad I was patient. The sandwiches are first class. Packed with fresh ingredients and very affordable. I opted for a couple of sandwiches to go and had the New York dog in the restaurant. The dog was excellent and what made it better than most was the sesame seed bun, soft and a perfect compliment for the beef dog topped with sauerkraut. The interior pays homage to African-American culture with some nice posters/pictures. Also, there is a patio. Street parking is available. Be sure to check their hours of operation before you head down. read more

Has the indoor seating reopened?
If you are referring to the outdoor patio area, yes. Plenty. We sat int he courtyard outside of the place.
Is there indoor seating?
There was outdoor seating available when I visited in February 2022. There was also really cool, classic jazz playing outside-- an added bonus.
What is on the "secret menu"?
There isn't really a large secret menu here- However, you can order a float with sodas and ice creams besides rootbeer and vanilla, and you can do the same for the ingredients in the sherbet freeze.
