A supermarket has to have/do something pretty noticeable for me to write a review, whether that something is good or bad. Otherwise I don't bother. You already know what to expect, right? Supermarkets, gas stations, drug stores...they're mostly always the same. That said, this Lucky location stood out to me today. I'm in grocery stores A LOT. First, I love to cook and bake so my shopping list is perpetually in play; second, I'm in charge of feeding another human so ingredients are on my mind daily. This afternoon I considered passing this store in favor of Safeway in order to get my Chevron gasoline credit, or grubby Foods Co. for the bargains. I'm glad I didn't...the service in this Lucky's made it worth my while to forgo the discounts. It was SO nice to be able to find an employee wherever/whenever I needed one. I had my list sorted by category so that I could hit every section in sequence; since this was a new store to me I had trouble finding certain things, but there seemed to be an employee at the ready every time I had a puzzled look on my face. Plus, the store is immaculate. One of the cleanest, brightest supermarket I've seen. The best part was when I got to the checkstand: Not only did the bagger bag, she also took the cart and insisted on putting all my stuff on the belt for me. I didn't have to do a darn thing but whip out my debit card. I felt so spoiled! At Foods Co. you save money by bagging your own stuff, while at Safeway you pay more to get that and other service but...you don't usually get it. I really don't mind bagging if I'm saving money, but bagging AND paying extra? That chaps my hide. I'd go out of my way to hit this Lucky's again. There was a bin in the produce section containing 26 loose small oranges. I selected 2 and brought them to the register. After seven minutes of looking, neither the cashier nor the manager on duty could find the code or the price for them. I offered to pay two dollars for the two small oranges. The manager said that that was too much. She said she cannot sell or give them to me at any price because they don't know the code. So I left without the oranges. There's a Safeway open an hour later just down the road that I just as easily could do my shopping at. read more

I don't usually shop at lucky's. They are waaaaay expensive but some times I stop by to buy flowers to visit my auntie and grandpa who reside at the colma cemeteries. Their flowers are always fresh (the times that I went) and prices is more reasonable than purchasing at the florist near by. They do have pretty good discount items (for if you need it) I stopped by today to buy shrimps, on sale for $9.98 (original $18), bought 10 bags! I've been looking for Trix, no where to be found, and WHOOP! There it is! And on sale! And FAMILY SIZE! Recently, introduced bacon into my niece & nephews life, and they love it! Ran out and guess what else was on sale! BACON! That's RIGHT! $2.99!! Honest Juice was ALSO ON SALE!! Bought apple juice and cherry. I needed salad dressing but didn't know where it was located. So I went in today to buy a lottery ticket, on my way out I decided to ask a clerk about how to cash in some winnings, I approached a clerk checking the shelf and said "excuse me." No response so I asked again, "excuse me." The clerk, assume Asian with black hair and light skin tone, without a greeting or even looking at me replied, "yes I can hear you. What it is?" This is store has the worst and most disorganized layout I've ever seen in a grocery store. Random items in random coolers and end-caps that are nowhere near items that are similar. Go ahead, I dare you to find breadcrumbs... More than once I've given up trying to find something they probably had. The self-checkout is also ridiculously disorganized and unsupervised. This is the only store I've ever been to where its impossible to scan items and put them directly in a bag, instead you have to add a whole extra step and bag your groceries ONLY after fully paying and receiving a receipt, otherwise the console locks up and you have to wait for the cashier to wander back from wherever they are hiding. My family and I have worked in all facets of the grocery industry all over the country for decades and the managers of this store should be embarrassed. read more

I went here to get water because it was next door to Starbucks. It's a pretty big store but there was water spillage on the floor in the main aisle and there was no sign for CAUTION so anybody in the store could've tripped on this - pretty dangerous if you weren't watching where you're going. I only went in to buy water (24 bottles of their SIGNATURE brand) for $2.99, a bag of Funyuns and 2 bags of shrimp chips (surprised they even had that). The 2015 remodeled store (with new California concept theme) looks awesome and less dated than before. It's now the most modern and clean supermarket in this area. Although prices are a bit higher than Safeway. They installed new flooring, new checkout stands, and new hub sections (bakery basket, drinks case, snack pack, lunch box, dinner plate) with food products suggestions for meals. There's also a new made to order fresh juice bar (frescas = $1.99 for 10 oz, $2.99 for 16 oz, $3.99 for 24 oz; signature juice blends = $3.99 for 16 oz), next to the produce section. And a new bulk foods section, in the middle aisles. They've added a nice dining area (12 small tables + counter seating), next to the prepared foods section. It includes a microwave, under a cabinet table. There's a Keurig coffee machine (buy individual K cups from Deli Marketplace counter), on left side of pastries display. Most departments remain in the same spots prior to remodel. But the former wide empty area on the right side of the store, is now a retail space (International Market) section for dinnerware and cookware products. The self checkout stations (5) only allow 15 items or less, and no alcohol. I bought a couple deli salads for a holiday dinner party. The SF potato salad is as good as always (was $1.99 on sale, now $3.99 per lb). But if u only want to taste the potato salad or any other salad on display, just ask for a free sample. Note: Costco sells SF potato salad in 5 lb bucket for $6.59 ($1.31 per lb). Avoid the churros (inside the self service bagels/donuts/pastries display case), because they're stale. I noticed the new employee uniforms in tomato or tangerine colors, so I asked the cashier about it, and he explained that the different colors have no relation to staff jobs (checkers vs baggers). Not sure why people would complain about this Luckys... it's the best one in a 20 mile radius that I've been to. The manager guy at the meat department is always super friendly and helpful. The store is spacious. The guy at automatic checkout was also really nice. I never have any issues finding parking right outside. On occasion when there's a good meat sale, there will be lots of ruthless people grabbing meat packages like it's the last deal on earth and that can be annoying but it's no fault of the store -- just the customers can be sketchy and rude ... still doesn't stop me from shopping here though! read more

I'm pretty exclusive when it comes to grocery stores but I was in the area. The last time I've been to a Lucky was when I was in maybe middle/high school. I honestly didn't know they still existed because the locations closed where I used to live. This location is lucky to be in this location considering the big parking lot and being in a prime location. It's clean and I like how they have a juice bar in the produce section. OMG!!! I have not been back to this location in FOREVER. Definitely haven't been back since they remodeled. I walked in and everything is so colorful! I spotted the Fresh Bar out of the corner of my eye as I was checking out all of the aisles. I walked up and was immediately greeted by three women which one of them I think might be the manager? My husband and I kind of scoped things out, checked out their menu and helped ourselves to the big water dispenser filled with ice, water, strawberries, and pineapples. It was so cold and refreshing! They have a few small refrigerated sections in between the register. On the left side of the register they have fruit and herb infused waters along with cut up fruit. To the right they also have fruit and pressed juices. You can order smoothies and fresh pressed juices per the menus on the board. While we were deciding what to order, the older woman who, I think is the mgr, offered us a sample of the fresh pressed apple juice (Fuji apples, pears, and cinnamon). It was so refreshing and so delicious he ordered one to go and she was nice enough to give him a to go cup with ice so he could enjoy it cold. I ended up ordering the "Incredible Almond" smoothie which had: water, almonds, honey, and spinach. That was also very good! Sosafina in the bakery is amazing! We had a cake at work (little, tall, rectangular with chocolate drizzled over the top) and everyone LOVED it! When I needed a cake for our small evening wedding, I remembered that yummy cake- and decided to swing by just to see what they had as options. I met Sosafina from the bakery, she was so helpful and kind. We came back a week before our wedding and met with her. She let us try the different frosting options (we picked the "better cream" - looks/tastes like whipped cream, and is non dairy - great for our lactose intolerant guests!), was VERY patient going over all our options. Even gave us suggestions on how to display our cakes at the wedding! Such a pleasure to come across someone who puts such care and love into her work. We ordered 3-two layer rounds: 1- white with custard filling 1- white with raspberry filling 1- 1 layer white & 1 layer chocolate with raspberry filling. They looked lovely, and tasted DELICIOUS! This is in regards to the bakery department. This is the second year in a roll in which I placed an order to have a cake done. This is the second year in a roll in which they messed it up. The first year they were able to make some corrections on it before I took it out of the store. This year my wife had picked it up and when she brought it home I find that the Marine Corps emblem on it is about 45 degrees off. This is something that cannot be fixed without getting another Marine Corps emblem for the cake which I need for tomorrow. How hard is it to make sure that the emblem is level? Very shoddy work. Overall, my experience at this Daly City location has be dissatisfying due to the fact that one of your employees embarrassed me at the cashier . She was a mid 40 year old Hispanic woman with glasses. While ringing me up for alcoholic beverages, she asked for my ID, looked at my picture, looked at my face, and insulted me while laughing at me by saying I "look 10 years old." I did not respond to her first remark, but she continued to laugh in my face as well as show the man bagging my items my ID card, as a joke. The man bagging my items was a late 20's man who seemed homosexual. As I was paying for my items, she continued to laugh. After the man passed me my bags, he went along with the joke, and said, "here you go girl, I mean, miss," while gesturing to the cashier. In this situation, I felt really uncomfortable, and she did not apologize. Because of this experience, I don't feel comfortable coming back to this location store. I'm glad you guys renovated your new store, now renovate and improve your staff members attitude or exterminate unprofessional staff members altogether. I've been coming to this luckys for a long time. Remember when it was Albertsons? I like that everything is already marked down and you don't need to swipe a card to get the deals. Employees are very helpful. Always asking if I need help. I love that. They always have great deals on meat, usually Wednesday or Thursday. Prime rib roast for $20?! Four rib eye steaks for $14?! This Lucky supermarket location is definitely the best looking one. It's quite clean and large compared to the other locations. Though this is due to the remodel, I can't really complain. It definitely stands out. The shelves are very well maintained and the inventory stacks line up almost perfectly. Although a reviewer noted that items seem a bit more expensive at this location, I didn't find this to be the case. One thing I would say needs improvement on is the self-check out system. It seems to be a bit slow and cumbersome. It's fairly frustrating if you accidentally scanned an item twice and need to wait for a cashier to come and cancel it from the system for you. This replaced the old Lucky's. They are trying a new concept of filling the store with ethnic and healthy foods. It sort of reminds me of Whole Paycheck without spending all your cash. Store is very clean. So are the carts! They even carry Sogo bakery items like 99 Ranch but the pastries cost more. A few notes: they have their own separate ad. That means they do not honor the ads that are good for the Sloat store. They also have their own Lucky You awards card. However they do honor the Lucky shares program. This is the first concept store. You got to wonder if they will kill off Safeway and replace them with Lucky California. read more

This place can get quite crazy at times. There are lots of sales during the week for meat, poultry, and veggies. The customer service has actually improved significantly. They all smile now, well mostly, and while you are shopping, you're greeted and asked if you need any assistance. Very nice. The vegetable layout is on the north end and is plentiful. I always stack up on the salads and fresh veggies and fruits. The meat selection is pretty big given the location. It's very clean for the most part and pretty good shopping experiences here so far. The parking lot is huge, as it is in a shared complex, and there is a recycling center next to it near the shipping/receiving docks so that's pretty convenient too. read more

The MANAGER working today WAS VERY RUDE!!! I had to asks for a correction in a recent transaction. They had accidentally charged me for a watermelon as opposed to a cucumber. The cashier was kind but obviously needed authorization to deal with my issue. It is VERY OBVIOUS that she ( I will be nice and not give her name) is BURNT out. I normally come here for my shopping needs but this makes me want to avoid this place altogether. A manager has to show customer service that above and beyond but this woman needs a vacation or an attitude adjustment. Worst experience ever - not my first time shopping here but it is my last time. Ling L. was the cashier and she was rude to my family and I from the get go. While waiting in line, my kid walked a few steps forward and she rudely tells an 8 year old child to step back. There's no reason to treat a stranger, no less a child, this way. My kid wasn't even talking or doing anything. We decided to let this go because we understand tensions are high with COVID. What made the entire situation worse was when she was being rude to us about the reusable bag issue. We didn't see the sign but she rudely tells us we can't bring our bags and can't bag until we go outside. I felt she was discriminating us because we were a family of Asians (and Ling's Asian too!). I felt this way because she let the non-Asian couple in front of us bag their groceries and didn't say anything. She then says she's going to call her supervisor and left... to bring the security guard. What for? We were getting violent? She stopped scanning our groceries and another cashier came. I appreciate Jennie who apologized for Ling's behavior and will speak to Ling about this - I would hope someone does. The security guard and one of the baggers were sympathetic to us as well.. my kid and I left in tears and no child should have had to experience this kind of discrimination and experience EVER. I hope they give Ling the help she needs because customer service is not something Ling should be involved in. Update - after sending a message via their website, I received a call from the assistant manager apologizing for Ling's behavior. He was very apologetic, professional, and understanding. I really do appreciate the call. Still depressed the whole day but I'm glad management is looking into this. Upped another star for management's response to this ordeal. read more

Francesca is the lady that helped me at the deli. She was just an angel of a woman. I've been to plenty of delis but she made this one experience stick out so much that I just had to write a review which I rarely do. She offered me a slice to test out without me even having to ask, little did she know I was just done at the gym and literally starving. Incredibly grateful for how sweet and caring this woman is, I strive to bring as much enthusiasm to my everyday job as she does.
