They have more Healthy Choices to buy. Although, the hot meals and food needs improvement. It is not well prepared. We are still counting on our easy grocery shopping. I shop remotely using instant cart. My shoppers are good and look for best date on meat. This store meat is almost always near out of date and even past date. Their selection of meats on sale are always out of stock. I'd rather go elsewhere if the meat department is going to rip off customers like this. read more

Arguably one of the worst Lucky locations I'd ever been. Overall the inside of the store was okay, but oh my goodness, the meat section was a huge mess... many products were misplaced (probably by customers but there was no staff on the floor to put them back in their right places) so it was hard to match them with their price tags. Lots of products also ran out. I couldn't find boneless chicken thighs at all, so I ended up getting chicken breast. And the worst was not even that. The self checkout was even more messy. 40% of the self checkout machines were out, and they situated the active checkout machines way way way too close to one another, so during my checkout I felt extremely uncomfortable because there was just no chance in heck for the customers to safely maintain social distances. I was at some point almost rubbed shoulders with snitched customers during packing my groceries into a bag.... I hope Lucky could look into this and come up with a better AND SAFER way for their customers to shop at this particular location. read more

There was a special needs person who is employed by this particular Luckys and the way this one cashier was speaking to her tells me that staff might need a to participate in a group that will maybe soften their approach... As a stroke survivor I understand that special needs individuals are people as well and deserve the same treatment as healthy individuals.. They've remodeled this store and it looks super cute now (compared to before), but the prices seem to be just a bit too high, and the organization just seems a bit more disoriented. It always ends up taking me way longer to find what I'm looking for, and they don't always have the prices that I used to enjoy, but it gets the job done. When you're stuck, at least it's there. I am a mom, with 3 boys and a Husband. My grocery bill you can only imagine. I honestly almost didn't write this review, but I thought I kind of needed to. This used to be my go to store for all my shopping needs. Even when the prices sky rocketed after their remodel I was still here. However, I have noticed that their advertised price and their scanning price is almost always wrong or any sale they have. I am always having to ask them to correct their pricing, every other day was eh ok whatever not worth it. Just don't buy it. However, today I was especially annoyed, so much so that I decided to finally yelp this place. Picture this: Your the first one in line, no big deal. You notice as the cashier is starting to ring you up a line is forming. You double check what the cashier is ringing and then notice that the cereal she rang up doesn't match the price that was stated. You bring this up to the cashier. She then calls another person to come over to check the price. Meanwhile, your standing in line getting stares from everyone else behind you. She rings up all your other items, you pay, move to the side, and then still waiting for the other person to come back. You wait for literally 10 minutes because the other person can't find the item. You then have to walk the other person to the item. (Doesn't she work here?) When you finally show the item In question that's in a box filled with said item the bar code was wrong. So lucky's advertised the wrong item in the box. What's worse?? They don't honor it. So not only did they waste my time and wrongly advertise, they didn't care the slightest bit to correct the problem either. I am over this Lucky's. The only reason for 2 stars is because the people working the produce section are very friendly! read more

5 Stars because this is where I go to get my groceries! No but really, the produce has always been fresh and lasts for a good amount of time which gives me time to cook and eat them all! They also have a good selection of Asian produce. (Sadly, they do not have any pomegranates). 8 Things That I Like About Lucky's: 1. Clean & tidy - you always know where to find something because it's in its own labeled aisle 2. Great produce selection that's fresh! 3. Meat is always stocked. Does have options for organic and sustainably farmed meats. Same with eggs. 4. Cereal, grains, dried goods machines - you can bag the exact amount you want and pay per weight. 5. The mini aisles - there is one for spices, pasta, canned goods, etc. Everything is super organized. 6. Flowers, plants, and during the holidays - live CHRISTMAS TREES! My husband and I got a little Christmas tree for $20. 7. Several self-check out machines. No explanation needed. 8. There's always parking space in the Lucky's lot. The one gripe I have about Lucky's is with alcohol purchase - everyone in the party must show their ID when purchasing alcohol. That means if one of you shows his ID but the other one of you left your wallet at home, you cannot buy the red wine that would go perfectly with your steak dinner you were going to make. I almost think it's unfair for the old reviews to still count because it has completely changed. If this store wasn't in the exact location as the old one, I would've thought it was a different franchise altogether. I walked in and literally gasped. I was pleasantly surprised. It's beautiful! So spacious. So clean. Everything is efficiently arranged. THERE'S A JUICE BAR. Can we just... can we just take a moment... wow. There's even an area to sit and eat. Wait whaaaa. Like at a food court. I can't even. How genius! Maybe some of you are thinking "we have that at our grocery store where we live" and blah blah blah. Well lookie-here-doe, I've lived in this area my whole life, and there has NEVER been a grocery store like it. I usually shop here for all my groceries and today was no different. I just ran in to grab a few things and decided to grab a pre made sandwich because well I didn't feel like making something to eat. As I got home, I opened up the sandwich to add on some condiments, as these $7 sandwiches are pretty plain, and was disgusted to see that the cheddar cheese was COVERED IN MOLD!! The date on the box says sell by April 29th and it's April 27th and I'm really disgraced to know these are marketed as "made fresh daily". I tried to reach out to customer support on the phone but my call was never answered. read more

Wow, has this store gotten worse after last year's remodeling. The biggest issue is the pricing, which was reasonable for years and years but since the remodel has skyrocketed. Once upon a time you could come here and "one stop shop," since the selection was good and the prices were reasonable, but that's dangerous now. My prior review said it was cheaper than Safeway, and that's no longer the case. The thing is, there's really no reason to charge that much more. Sure, the remodel looks nice, but nothing else has improved. The quality and selection of the food is the same. The parking lot has gotten worse, with most of the spaces apparently taken up by abandoned cars or people in the neighborhood using it as a makeshift parking garage. The checkout lines, which used to be reasonable, have been squashed together and now take forever to get through. Sorry, Lucky. Lucky's Deli department need more training on proper food handling. It's vital to keep a standard of proper hand washing and proper form when handling someones food. If I may I came here on Sunday Afternoon, Not to busy . Because I haven been to the recent remodel of the store. Which by the way looks nice. But, I digress. I came in to buy just a couple of things. Got those items in my cart and thought I should get some mac and cheese at the deli department. Well the server who didn't get my jokes to make her laugh. eventually smiled. I asked for a pound of mac and cheese. She starts off by grabbing a serving spoon from a dish that has several types of spoons soaking in some soapy liquid . Shakes it off and then proceeds to scoop my mac and cheese. I didn't really think about this too much until she measures my mac and proceed to go to the same container grab the same spoon that was re soaking in the same goop. Shake it and place more in my container. I told her No Thank You. Train your people, Please before someone dies from improper food handling. Just the DELI department. read more

Thank god I don't live around here. If I did, that would kinda force me to shop at this hell hole of a supermarket. I must say one good thing about it. It's huge! Nice and spacious. But the space does not translate well to the amount of items they have on stock. And the way the employees just ignore you when you look like a herder who just lost his flock. It's as though they are as lost as us. Not a good sign when shopping. And the self service check out...Not really self service when you got a jerkwad looking over your shoulder making sure you're doing it right. And the stupid machines...I hit credit and in 2 seconds it called for assistance. What the FUCK? Are you kidding me? Why would I need help using my credit card? I'm pretty sure I know how to use it! But noooo! The jerkwad trudges back over and gives me the stink eye while he touches the screen. Well it looks like I'm the first to review this store location after it re-opened just this morning as the first prototype for "Lucky California" which is a concept remodeling that will go into multiple stores throughout the state if this one does well, according to a press release I read just now. I just started working in the neighborhood and was driving around this morning looking for a place to get a quick bite. I saw this shopping center and figured I'd hit up this Lucky. From the outside it looked like any other Lucky on any other overcast morning in Daly City, California. And although I had never been to this shopping center I knew right away that something was odd because the parking lot was packed to the gills and people were waiting for parking places. I walked into the store and it was packed with all kinds of corporate looking grocery people and food vendors. I felt like that old Bob Dylan song and was thinking to myself....something is happening here but you don't know what it is. So I asked some corporate stiff if this was a grand opening or something and he confirmed it was the grand opening of the first prototype of this new "Lucky California" concept. Clearly they are trying to be more like Whole Foods and other hipper, more modern California lifestyle type stores. So I tried some hot food from the deli and it was pretty darned good. The staff was friendly and eager to please. I looked around and it looks like it's got a pretty good selection of fresher items that you don't find in the older style grocery stores. So yeah, it's not Whole Foods but clearly the major grocery chains are changing to keep up with the times even if they probably missed the boat 10 years ago. read more

It's pretty huge, large meat selection, large produce selection, large asian, hispanic food aisle, large bulk goods aisle. It's very expansive with decent parking. The products at this Lucky are just all right. I'd avoid the self-checkout line if I were you. The woman manning the self-checkout station is so incredibly rude and condescending. I try to avoid the self-checkout and go straight to a cashier just to avoid any interaction with her. read more

When I was little, way before this Lucky's became Albertson's and now Lucky's again, my family would never go to this Lucky unless they really needed to. We used to go to the Lucky's that used to be right next to Serrabowl but is closed down and has been gone for years now. It was my favorite Lucky's but what can you do? And after that, they opened an Albertson's in Oceanview but it got closed down just last year or the year before, quite sad actually. I don't even go food shopping with my parents anymore but they go to the closest grocery stores like Manila Oriental, Safeway or Foodsco. The only reason I come to this Lucky's is if my boyfriend and I are craving snacks like Flipz chocolate covered pretzels or if we want to watch a movie that just came out in Bluray/DVD since they have three redboxes at this Lucky's and we don't feel like going to Blockbuster. read more

This store was one of the many Lucky supermarkets where someone was able to skim credit/debit card information. I'm not surprised. Going there today, I walked around looking for a handbasket. None by either entrance, finally found forlorn one by a checkout stand. I couldn't help but wonder if this is part of the management's strategy to force shoppers to use the larger shopping carts, hoping they will buy more groceries. Checking out, the bagger puts my wheatgrass on the bottom which gets crushed. The only thing this store has going for it is its closeness to be. I usually shop at Safeway in SF since they're closer to me, but sometimes on birthdays & holidays I come here to Mission Plaza in Daly City to buy filipino-flavored cakes at Red Ribbon Bakery and what I like about the location of Red Ribbon is that there are other useful shops within a few steps like Starbucks & Lucky's Supermarket where I can do my grocery shopping for anything else I need for the celebration. One great thing about their store is if you're elderly and/or permanently/temporarily disabled and/or have trouble walking/standing for long lengths of time and/or have back pain, then they have 2 electrocarts (scooters with carts) in front near the doorway. It makes shopping soooooo much easier. Only a FEW Safeways carry electrocarts and usually only one and most times you have to ask for them. Also, there's a Wells Fargo bank branch inside. Their service is excellent. Employees keep happy faces & are courteous and extremely helpful even while they're overworked. I've never had one employee who's been rude to me or lazy or uncaring. Because Daly city has lots of filipinos, of course you'll find many filipino employees here. FILIPINOS SPEAK ENGLISH!! English is the Philippine national language ABOVE tagalog and children from the earliest ages are taught english in the Philippines. The few filipinos who insist on not learning english are usually stuck in the provinces(rural areas). Not suprisingly, they usually have problems finding jobs in the cities because they don't understand english. Also, there ARE pockets of elderly filipino people who migrated TO THE US who never learned correct english and didn't want to (my elderly mom is one of them), but YOUNG filipinos as kids up to 30 years old should be able to speak & understand english well. Filipinos only speak tagalog to each other, but if you speak English to them, they will respond in english. When I first came to Lucky's a year ago, their prices were out of whack expensive, and since then, they've improved on prices & quality but don't expect bargain Foodsco prices here. However, they DO have sales which you can look up online. Make sure to register so they can save your phone number so that you can take advantage of the member discounts at checkout. I love their Rotisserie chicken - they're even warmer & tastier here than Safeway's. Again, because Daly City is really New Manila with loads of filipinos, they have more than 1 brand of filipino ice cream but in decadently unique filipino tastes like ube macapuno, ube queso, buko pandan, halo halo, ube red bean, ube macapuno, mango, cashew langka, etc. which you really can't find in this kind of abundance in any supermarket in San Francisco. I think this particular branch of Lucky's was created to introduce a NEW type of Lucky's which showcased new types of items that were organic, fresh, gourmet, etc that other usual Lucky's didn't usually have. They have a SEPARATE SECTION near the fruits and vegetables section where they have someone ACTUALLY MAKING FRESH HANDMADE juice that I never see at ANY supermarket. When I looked at the alfredo pasta sauce section, they had over 6 different brands (some I've never heard of) with a couple DIRECTLY FROM ITALY!! The LAYOUT of the store is different from other stores, even different from Lucky supermarkets in SF!! Instead of monotonous aisles from one end of the store to the other end, the fruit/veg/bakery/deli section are a group clustered together near the doorways. Then begin the aisles but the aisles are cut in half so it SEEMS you have more aisles than usual and that the store SEEMS bigger than usual. As usual, the meat and dairy items will be all the way in the back of the store.Then at the end of the aisles, you have a LARGE cluster of liquor(wine, beer, etc), party accessories(plates, cups, utensils), etc near the other set of doorways. It almost reminds me of the layout for the superlarge Safeway supermarket on 16th St between Bryant St & Potrero Ave in SF. The parking lot at this Mission Plaza is HUGE so coming by car is no problem. Sam Trans ECR stops nearby--but there's still some walking involved and if you buy a heavy bag of stuff or more there, esp if you're ALREADY carrying a bag of stuff, going home will be a pain, literally!!. There's also Lyft (download the app on your celphone & enter your CC#-- a mobile connection is also required to use the apps) which is alot cheaper than taxi since you don't get charged the expensive "crossing the city lines" fees/rates if you live in SF. Taking a Lyft home is sooooo much easier when you have LOADS of heavy/bulky groceries, esp. when you're carrying a package of ready to melt ube queso ice cream!! I've never had a problem hailing a Lyft from here within 5 minutes. Choose a Lyft pooled (shared) ride for that discount & low carbon footprint & put the groceries in the trunk!! read more

I am a big fan of this newly remodeled store, they have added checkout stands (thank goodness), refreshed their produce game (almost as good as some of the swanky stores we all know and love) and have added an incredible amount of grab and go snack options. But the best thing they have done is kept all of the friendly faces that have worked here for years in the past. That's all I have for the positives for now, here's why they are getting a max of 2 stars from me. Came in with my propane tank and told the cashier that was overseeing the self checkout stands that I wanted a swap it out for a new tank. No problem she says as she rings me up for the swap. She tells me to wait outside by the cage housing the tanks and someone would be with me in just a minute. So that's exactly what I did. After 15 minutes, (no joke, I paid close attention to the time since game time was less than an hour away) I decided it was time to head back in and remind them I was awaiting some help. The lady who was so gracious to take my money told me to head back out and that someone was on the way and it wouldn't take much longer, they were just looking for the key. I I went back outside and stood there in the heat like a lost dog waiting for its owner to come back for him. Another 10 mins goes by and still not a sole insight. I told myself to be patient but I was losing precious time and I had to be back in time to grill and sit my ace in front of my tv for the game. So I headed back in a third time and asked them what the hell was taking so long?!? I was finally told that someone broke the key off in the lock and that they would have to refund me my money and I would have to go somewhere else for my refill. As you could imagine I wasn't the happiest of shoppers, and I definitely did not feel so "Lucky" at that point. It then became my duty to track down the manager and explain the situation to her to get my refund and then ask why they didn't post a sign on the cage holding the tanks in the first place?!? I was fed a line of B.S. of "Oh it just happened" and they were sorry for the long wait... Well tell me something, if that was the case then wouldn't it have been fresh in everyone's minds that the key was broke and that you couldn't sell any propane at the moment? Ugh... 30+ mins lost to gain nothing but a lack of faith in the on duty staff here. Ended up back at the local gas station to get what I needed and it only took a couple of minutes to complete the transaction. Lesson learned, go to a grocery store for groceries.. Go to a gas station for all things gas related and you should be A-Ok. read more

This Lucky location has undergone a pretty nice makeover in the last year. It is way more spacious and clean than it was before, so it makes shopping here much more pleasant. However, the Fresh Bar inside is a little confusing. The staff behind the bar are super friendly, they are so cheerful and seem to be very accommodating. There were two women working behind the counter at the time of my visit, and they were both really nice. Buttt, they have all these juices that they 'can' squeeze fresh, yet if you ask them to squeeze anything, they'll tell you there's one on the shelf that you can just grab. It seems that they've been well trained to sell their products, as they seemed to think that the products they were selling were great. My problem is, I'm not sure that I want to spend $2 on a water infused with two pieces of fruit. It may be the cheap Asian in me, but I really feel like this is so simple I can easily do it at home for a fraction of the price! Perhaps it's because the bottles that they are filling have barely any labeling on them, so it is a little ghetto looking. They look like they're made in a mom and pop shop, not inside of a huge newly renovated Lucky's supermarket. I think Lucky's might need to step their marketing game up. read more

The layout of this store is very open with California emblems and wood panels. We were driving past Daly City and because we were going to our regular Lucky store in SF we just decided to get the goods here instead. What a mistake. Sure. This Lucky is quite spacious-in fact, a little to large as it's huge in comparison to the store we usually patronize. Seems like a PaknSav size IMO. Anyway, we got our items-only four-and since they only had two cashiers working the regular checkout lines we thought we'd go to the self-serve checkout line that it would be quicker. What a bad decision that was. Every single one of the checkout counters were occupied. No problem we thought. Well, it appears that every single one of the customers had issues. Either they took forever to scan their many items or they had one issue to another. By this time the line to checkout behind us grew substantially. The Lucky clerk on duty to supervise the self-serve line was stressed out then she went on break. But the clerk who took her place was no better. Very slow in assisting those with issues. We spent nearly half an hour in this store with twenty minutes waiting to pay. Why do they not have more than two clerks at the regular checkstands is beyond anyone's reasoning. Surely we know it's a Sunday afternoon yet still it's a busy period for customers to come in. read more

I choose Lucky's over Safeway. I feel that Lucky's is cheaper, but it depends on the days you go since each week/weekend, sales on food items are always coming and going. I usually go here for grocery shopping. They changed their presentation of the store. The aisles are more wide and the food selections are closer together and organized. Their organization is more efficient when you shop. I've been coming here for years, before it was called Lucky's, it was Albertson's. Price ranges are decent and fair. Not a bad store. They are large, so the variety is good. The clientele who frequent are nice. The staff have always been nice when I go there. My biggest issue, since I'm usually there for only a few items, is that they NEVER have hand baskets at the door. I always have to go hunting the lanes for them. This store is HUGE! I love how much open space there is, and how clean the place appears to be. I also really like that the products reflect the neighborhood demographics---Asian and Latino specialties anyone? After this store reopened, it looks so much nicer and more modern. The deli has gotten better, I love the juice bar, and the bakery has more choices now. The self checkouts have a line bordered with candy racks, which makes it easier for customers to wait in line instead of fighting to an open terminal when there's a line. The orange shirts that the employees wear I think is kinda lame though. Other than that, it's a nice store and hopefully the other Lucky Stores will be looking like this before next summer. read more

I hear that the Albertson's/Lucky chains in the south bay are not as good at Safeway but in the Daly CIty/South SF area, it seems like that's the opposite.
