Combo A- chicken chow mein, sweet and sour pork, and I subbed in white rice instead of the BBQ pork fried rice
Felicia P.

Quick little order and takeout place, no dine in service. I ordered the Combo A - Chicken chow mein, sweet and sour pork and BBQ pork fried rice (but I subbed it for white rice). They were very quick - probably took like 4 minutes from ordering to having my food ready. Service was great. Food itself while portion of chow mein was huge, was just okay. I judge a Chinese spot by their chow mein and I felt like it was a little bland. The sweet and sour pork was only half covered in sweet n sour sauce so that threw me off, but found they just set on top of a pool of sauce, so may be a good reason to serve this way- maybe to keep pork crisp. The sweet and sour pork tasted pretty good and white rice was mediocre. I had gone here long ago but never went back - probably because New China next door is so much better, but if you need something quick and filling, this may be the spot for you. Oh and I notice they have a board with more specials that are not on their printed menu and they serve burgers and fries and pork buns too.

I've been eating her for 35 years, it was family tradition. I haven't been here for about five years, last I came the food wasn't great, not like when I was a kid and the old guy ran the wok. When I visited today the food was awful. The prices are higher than normal too. The pork had a rotten smell, similar to garbage or old hamburger, it was also discolored and grey. The sweet and sour pork consisted of five tiny nuggets and an irony rusty tasting sauce, no onion, pepper or pineapple. It didn't even fill the side of the container. The egg roll tasted like it was weeks past its prime. Reminiscent in flavor to the smell of a garbage can, with a cheesy rotten meat taste. I had to feed it to the dogs, curious if they will throw up.... The pork fried rice had a sick sweet smell, my daughter said like soap and rotten pork, I agree. Accurate. Pork bits were grey and yellow colored, absolutely disgusting. Foil wrapped chicken was decent, and all the chicken was seemingly fresh, but the rank smelling pork ruined it all. I also saw that they're charging 0.65 for fortune cookies, everyone else gives them out as a curtesy. Further more at New World Fortune Cookie Factory you can get a bag of 50+- for like 3.00. Totally greedy. I will not return here, and that's sad because this place was a part of my family.

So I remember back in the 80's the Brandy Fried Chicken plate was $2.50 LOL. Today it is $9 but still freaking delicious. Other than their Brandy Fried Chicken nothing else really stands out. However they do give you a lot of food at good prices.

The pad Thai was good best one I've had. I loved the salt and pepper spare ribs. I didn't care for the Peking pork but my kids enjoyed it.

We've been coming here for years and always get tomato beef chow mein and shrimp with lobster sauce over rice. Takeout only spot but don't let the name deceive you -- they're cooking up some good eats and the type of stuff that my Chinese grandparents would've eaten.

No frills Chinese takeout place. A little more Americanized but my family has been going here for 30 years. Reasonably priced and good portions. Service is fast. It's take out only. Plenty of parking. Come here every other month or so.

Tried this place twice in the past week and was happy with the taste and quantity of the food. I did notice that the prices changed from the end of February to March 1, 2024, so wanted to share the updated menu with prices. We ordered the Hong Kong style chow mein, black bean sauce fish, fried prawns and brandy fried chicken. My mom loved the brandy fried chicken. I thought the fried prawns were tasty but wished it had a batter instead of a breading. I liked the black bean sauce fish, it was light on the black bean flavor and had a hint of a salt and pepper flavor. The Hong Kong style chow mein noodles were nice because they were thin noodles that had some crunch to them but weren't overly crispy. A little greasy but that's not unusual for fried noodles.

Foil wrapped chicken

The food was below acceptable. I ordered the general chicken combination plate with bbq fried rice and foil wrapped chicken. The flavor was just ok but the chicken was way too hard. The roof of mouth still hurts. The service was fast but I questioned the cleanliness of the whole establishment. While I was picking up my order, the lady back sneezed in her are then continued to out glove on to prepare another order. Sadly I will not be coming back for that reason alone.

I like the food here. Owners have changed over time but food is still great. Tried the chicken and string bean and sweet and sour chicken.

My husband and I lived in the Bay Area for a while before moving to Davis for school, so our standards are pretty high. Unfortunately this is not going to be my new go to. Although the flavors of the food were pretty OK, we found everything to be really soft. Our shrimp and chive dumplings were literally disintegrating and my chicken feet were too soft. The sticky rice, however, and the tripe were delicious sui mai, and ha gao were pretty good, with the sui mai being pretty juicy. We paid $100 for 10 dishes! I know prices have gone up everywhere but this felt pretty steep. Overall, I don't think we'd come back. I would rather go to South Sacramento and eat dim sum there and then get my Asian grocery shopping done. Restaurant itself looked like a standard Chinese dim sum restaurant. Nothing to write home about.

The roast duck was tasty, but for the price we could have gone to 99 market and gotten ourselves half a duck and it would've been worth it. They served us a lot of bone pieces that had no meat on them. Great for soup to make a broth but not great over rice. The bathroom was also really sketchy. It needs a good scrub down.

So I'm planning my next trip here this week so I can enjoy the amazing cucumber salad (so fresh, crunchy and garlicky), their pepper beef clay pot (sizzling rice at the bottom for the win and big portions), their spicy tofu (umm what?!? So crispy) and their awesome skewers (the pork belly is my favorite). The space is small, so if you're planning on dining in during peak times, you may want a back up or take it to go as they only have a handful of tables inside and a few tables outside. There is parking but it is shared with other business so can get busy. The service is wonderful! The hostess/waitress was very friendly and everything came out relatively quick. The clay pot does take some time (they need to cook up the rice to get that awesome crunchy bottom) so place your order for that first, and then look at the appetizers and skewers as they come out fast. This was my first trip but will not be my last to Da Fei Ge!

It was nice enough that I tried to come here on a weekend night and it was packed full of families which is great but probably where I should have thought about it more. We went up to the counter and were told to wait a few minutes. I saw that a large table was clearing up so I didn't mind waiting. During this time a group came up behind us and I thought they were after us. One of the server waved in our general direction after cleaning up and splitting the table, so I thought they were gesturing to us since it has already been 10 minutes of waiting. Wrong, it was to the group behind us. Maybe it was communicated in mandarin that they had a reservation, I'm not sure. I waited for the next empty table, which was also taken by yet another group that magically appeared behind us as if they knew they were in line. I decided to leave after this. My issue is that I looked and talked to the staff multiple times and at no point, did they indicate there was a waitlist, nor did they take my name, or anything about people in front of us. It was really frustrating because being told it would be a few minutes set the wrong expectation. This is not the only place to get skewers so if you're left confused where you are in line, just come another weekday, speak mandarin, or go somewhere else like I did

Despite there being endless selections in Sacramento sometimes the American Chinese options are .... bleh ... They are either too oily. Mediocre taste. Overpriced. It's hard to find one that really stands out. Recently my coworkers and I all pitched in on takeout from here for Lunar New Year and ordered five dishes as takeout. One of my coworkers was the one who recommended this spot. Let me just say the food was incredible. The seafood chow mein was the standout dish out of everything. Loaded with octopus tentacles, scallops, shrimp. Feel like half the time you get seafood options these days they skimp out but this place did not disappoint. The fried rice was a little more unique than I've personally tried before with pieces of beef and cabbage. But still very tasty. And the pork dishes we got including the sweet and sour were just incredible. One thing I do want to mention was some pieces of the pork did have a bone attached, but I honestly didn't mind it much. The flavor made it up for it. Also inside of this place looks very modern, clean. Since we only got takeout I can't say for certain service for sit down but ordering and getting our food was simple. The staff were very kind and friendly. Again, THANK GOD I finally have a good Chinese food option. No more oily salty food or Panda Express.

We ordered two of their standout offerings: 1. Rib Steak with Mixed Mushrooms: This was exceptionally executed. The steak was tender, perfectly cooked, and the rich flavor of the mixed mushrooms complemented the meat beautifully. 2. The "One Live Fish, Two Dishes" Approach: We selected a live black cod ($20/lb) and had the kitchen prepare it two ways. This is where the culinary team shines--both preparations were fresh, expertly seasoned, and utilized the fish to its absolute potential. The interior design is simple and functional--nothing flashy, but perfectly fine for a casual meal or a family gathering. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, as the dedicated free parking lot is quite limited, so you may need to hunt for a spot during peak hours. The Drawbacks are Service, Restrooms, and Hidden Fees! While the food hits the mark, the rest of the experience is hit-and-miss. The service lacks consistency. Staff can be attentive one moment and completely absent the next. A major downside was the state of the restroom, which was noticeably stinky and poorly maintained. The most frustrating part of the night came at the end. Despite agreeing on the $20 per pound price for the live black cod to be made into two dishes, the final bill included two completely unmentioned, mystery fees: one for $5 and another for $3. While the amount isn't massive, the lack of transparency regarding upcharges for the two-dish preparation is incredibly unprofessional.

And there were pieces of fresh ginger. This dish was very enjoyable. would order this dish again without hesitation. 2) bitter melon and beef in black bean sauce. Another nice flavorful dish.
