This Lucky's gave me a counterfeit $20 for change and when I realized the tender was fake, I went back to explain what happened, I was told to come back when manager was on shift to review the camera footage, where I'd be reimbursed after it was reviewed showing the money being handed to me, so I come back and they flat out tell me no they can't help me and had little to none compassion for the matter. I've been going to this Lucky's for years, I even was an employee at one brief point. I don't feel sure I can go to this grocery store and be treated honest and fair anymore. I felt like the criminal trying to prove to them what happened even tho they knew me on a first name basis. Years of shopping and developing history just gone. I truly don't feel comfortable shopping here anymore if I have to worry about the money being giving to me for my change is fake! read more

My family thinks this place certainly beats Safeway for many reasons. No super-snazzy ambiance, yet who cares. Save the ambiance for dinner dates. The most impressive aspect of this particular Lucky is the fantastic staff; friendly, helpful and they smile. Imagine that, service with a smile at a foodie store. :-D :-D :-D An added perk we recently noticed is they have a stand outside by the entrance. The stand holds a huge container of hand wipes...clean DOES begin at the door! So, grab a wipe on your way into the store, folks. Use those wipes on your cart or basket handles to sanitize them or to clean your grubby hands. :D The sales they offer are pretty darn good. Most of any supermarket shopping we do is for sale items. Suggest keeping an eye out for their ads. The reason I gave them four stars and not five is because the prices on some regular priced items is a bit spendy. Yet, that's the case with other supermarkets too. Produce is fresh and they often run some spectacular sales on fruits. Example: Yesterday's purchase was a gigantic container of blueberries (I'd say the size of three regular size containers). The cost was a mere $2.99; that's a lotta berries for your buck. Like the fact that customers don't have to use one of those silly plastic cards in order to get savings on foods. Yay- one less thing to have to worry about. So apparently I was asleep at the wheel when California passed a law banning sales of alcohol at self-checkout machines. Even if it's only a feel good measure, it seems reasonable enough. Although I doubt this is how teens are getting their booze. But anyway... This review isn't about the law since it affects all stores equally. Although I'm not sure how Fresh & Easy gets by. Come to think of it, I'm almost certain I've self-checked out booze at Safeway since Jan 1st. This review is based on the fact that Lucky's usually only has one register open. Maybe two if it's busy. Since pretty much the only thing I buy from here is cheap hooch, Lucky is dead to me. Especially after my last trip. So me not knowing the new law spots some Negro Modelo and a bottle of Zin on sale. Cool! I grab it and head for the self-checkout aisle. Two employees chitchatting away don't say anything as I attempt to scan it. The usual message pops up about "age restricted item". Normally they come over, check your ID and enter their super secret code. I wait. And wait. And wait... Finally one of them pops their lil' snake head up like he just heard some Indian flute music. He says something about the new law "blah blah blah'. Umm... ok, but why don't you post a sign? And why does the machine still say to check my ID? I then proceed to the less busier of the two lines when a chick comes up behind me and says "This register is closing. You'll need to move to the next". I shoulda just said F-it at this point and head to Safeway. I was already there so I stood in line thinking about what I would say on Yelp. Never again Lucky's. Never again. read more

To the butcher at the Portola Ave. Luckys store, Chris! Foster Farm whole chickens were on sale there and I wanted to buy eight of them to cook in our smoker barrel. We like the chickens to be cut in half and usually have to do it ourselves. I rang the buzzer at the butcher station and Chris came out. I asked if he would be willing to split the chickens I wanted to buy and he said "Absolutely" ! Grab the chickens that I wanted in my basket brought them over and he took them in the back room to prep them. I said I'd go finish my shopping and come back and get them. As I was finishing up my shopping, grabbing bread, here comes Chris with all my chickens ready to go. He help me load them in my basket and then took the empty basket back to put away. Absolutely fantastic customer service. Hope the manager there reads this! Thank you Chris!! read more

A home town favorite The best traits of this Lucky is price and service. Produce: Its presentation lacks behind the 99th Ranch and SafePlace, it is modest in size and probably overdue for an upgrade. It has basic selections and the price is mostly favorable in comparison to SafePlace. Meats: We buy our meats from CostCompany, but the price of chicken at Lucky's is competitive. The quality of meats, from our limited experience is fair. Though it may not have some cuts, where are the rib roasts? Dairy: The price of milk can be one of the lowest in the area. There are a variety of popular cheeses, though you will find more at SafePlace. Soda: With specials, their prices are lower per case than CostCompany. But you have to buy in specific quantity. Shelf selection: Mixed. The SafePlace doesn't offer Hershey's Dark Chocolate service, Lucky's do. But not the Caribbean Marinade by K.C. Masterpiece. Frozen foods: Thorough and decent selection. Useless trivia: You can find frozen quail here. Bakery: Good selection of breads, but not exceeding SafePlace. Deserts and cakes selection is nominal. They sell donuts and bagels here. Surprising trivia: Pinatas here at half price Party City. Check out Hispanic Foods for your party needs. Presentation: If the closed P&W was a 10, Lucky's here is a modest 5. Price: Though you can find some things cheaper elsewhere, all in all, very affordable without the need for club card. Self checkout: Yes. Children themed carts: Yes. Useless Trivia: They have a Coin Star machine here with the option of Amazon gift certificate at zero cost. Mini "club" section: Yes. They have a very limited items of CostCompany goods on the shelves apparently at cost. Like powdered Nesquick Chocolate? Look here. Lucky isn't a showplace grocery store. Its a family place. By money spent and frequency, this gets 4-stars. read more

I was so upset today when I went to Lucky's deli to pick up my "turkey dinner" and found it frozen hard! All day my husband and I looked forward to not cooking our COOKED turkey dinner to pick up a very frozen turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and gravy! Soooooo upset! What do I do now at 3pm! I felt they should have mentioned my $49 cost did not include a cooked meal!!!! My disappointment cannot be expressed! At a minimum I feel Lucky should have communicated to me I was receiving a frozen bird when I ordered!!! Please be forewarned! I am a Lucky shopper for LIFE! I wasn't able to shop due to surgery and ordered Safeway grocery delivery. When they didn't deliver in the window provided, I called and was told they couldn't due to being short handed. They weren't going to call me? I not only ordered the next day from Lucky, but had multiple updates text to me, had delivered early and from a sweet person who brought everything in and placed on counter for me. Customer service here is GREAT! The workers are friendly and helpful and seem to enjoy what they are doing (for a change!). I shopped there when it was an Albertson's and was also afraid (like another reveiwer) that things would change for the worse. But really it was the opposite to the same :) AND you dont have to have one of those blasted cards to get the sale price anymore...definate perk! Some of the prices are a little higher on things - but usually I try to shop their sales. Make sure to check their flyer for coupons - especially on soda. First of all, when you go in there, expect to be blinded. They have so many damn lights in there, it is like walking into a solar flare. I would advise that they get with the times and conserve energy rather than waste it so blatantly. Seriously, if they turned out half of the lights, it would still be plenty bright in there. Second, don't ever get the deli sandwiches from there. After eating a fresh made sandwich, I felt like I was drugged up on something. The folks at the deli counter need to be educated on how to prevent cross contamination in the food service industry. It's a Lucky's, exactly like you expect. Ok, it's a little cleaner than you're picturing right now. They DO have Pepper Plant sauce, BUT they only have the Chipotle (marinade) style. Evolutionarily you typically find Original & Chunky Garlic, then Chipotle & Habanero. I've never seen just Chipotle all lonesome by itself before. There wasn't even a place for Original. And in a horrible B movie plot twist, I was actually there looking for Original since I was COMPLETELY OUT, and was NOT amused by this anomaly. I've since chalked it up to all the radioactive testing in Livermore, and moved on. Luckily I know of a handy list on yelp of Pepper Plant Sauce Sources and picked some up the next day. Let me remember this is not the original Lucky store but Sav-Mart. I stopped in on the way back from W-mart, I am a Safeway shopper by heart. I needed just a package of strawberries. YUK..The strawberries looked like they came from the dumpster. Someone took the time to stack them nice and neat but I guess they missed the fruit flies and moldy fruit. I'll pass. The only reason I ever go to Lucky's is if I'm on Livermore Ave on my way home. If you want a rotisserie chicken just keep on driving over to to Costco or Safeway. Just something not right. Why does the meat department always smell, well, like spoiled meat? I am one of those people that shops the outside aisle. So if I have to skip the meat deparment, which has the deli right next to it, that only leaves the produce. I am happy to say the produce is fresh here and they have many options to choose from. Why is it so bright in here? My word! I need sunglasses when I shop! I am just not a huge fan of this store. They never have what I'm looking for. Every time I decide to shop Lucky for the week, I end up having to run to Safeway to complete my shopping list. Their deli leaves a lot to be desired. I don't like the brand of meat they carry and my kids ask why I bought the gross stuff when I make them a sandwich. Bakery is all right. I ran in before a soccer game for my kids who were between games and needed a snack. I grabbed a pre-made sandwich. Asked the deli to please cut it so the girls could share (can't eat too much before a big game) and they sent me to the bakery. She said she would have to cut it, repackage it and re price it. Why? Why not a simple knife cut? I said nevermind and walked away. I had a problem ordering a cake from them before too. They didn't have anything I chose from their book. They need a new book then! Meat dept is always great. Very helpful. They let my girls check out the fresh lobsters, which they loved. The only reason I am giving two stars is because the customer service (checkers, managers and meat dept) is friendly and they carry a brand of frozen egg noodles I use in my chicken noodle soup. Some of the produce is quite a bit more expensive here than at Safeway. $1.19/lb for sweet potatoes at Safeway vs $1.69/lb here. But they do have quality, and a bit more of a selection on produce, than Safeway. The meat department is very good. Lots of different cuts of everything. The store is clean and organized. Not sure about some of the low stars on this place BUT, This store is a Great place to shop. Enough parking for everyone(Except for main Holidays) All the checkers are friendly. I like how some of the employees engage with their customers. They check & engage at the same time at a fair amount of speed. To me it's like, they love what their doing for a Career. Dealing with customers can be hard. Everyone can't be pleased. But all I know is that I love buying my groceries from here. I keep going to this market and I am consistently disappointed. Shame on me I guess. The latest experience involved the meat department. I saw that New York steaks were on special ($5.88/lb). Great price right? Well, unfortunately you get what you pay for. These steaks looked okay in the package, but after bringing them home and grilling them the same night, the old lady and I were less than pleased. They were tough and had gristle disguised as marbled fat. My wife had two bites and stopped eating. I powered through mine, but regretted it. I thought about going back the next day for a refund, but decided instead to vow to get my meat from Costco, Nob Hill or Kelly's Meats from now on. In my opinion, there's nothing worse than poor quality meat. Lucky's made me sad on this occasion. read more

My main problem with this Lucky is the layout. It seems very difficult to find products that I have an easy time finding in other stores. I have been shopping at this store for a few months and still continue to have problems locating many items. The meat selection is terrible and find the meat quality is much lower than Safeway. The fish selection is equally as bad and often there is zero fresh fish that has not been previously frozen. I used to shop at Safeway until I moved to Livermore right down the street from this Lucky. I have recently started shopping at the Safeway on First Street and am much more satisfied. When it comes to markets I guess it's each to their own. This Lucky happens to be mine after I vowed to avoid Safeway as much as possible. As a sales shopper, I could never seem to get a good deal at Safeway. I would buy items from Safeway thinking i got a deal, only to find out that Target would have the same item at a lower cost on the norm. So I have re-directed my attention to a further away Lucky and have so far been pleased. Like others have said, their produce is a hit or miss. Sometimes old stuff are left out for a while like the avocados. Their staff in the produce has always greeted me and asked if I needed help. The meat department folk are the same. The meats can go pretty cheap if on sale. There have been times they were much cheaper than 99 Ranch. So for me, this store has been my preference. I have a feeling I would be a Nob Hill shopper if it was closer to me though. read more

Only grocery store I use in Livermore, not only because it is so close to my house but also because I've never had a bad experience here. Parking is SO great, and they're very good about collecting the shopping carts. The staff is friendly and helpful and they always have a good amount of check stands open. I used to get their cup cakes (Oreo and Red Velvet) in San Jose. Livermore is the closest to my place, well I make their dad bring it to the kiddos when he visits the kiddos. I've tried expensive "Nothing Bundt cake" and it is too sweet for me. Costco cake is too hard and icing is way too sweet. When the kiddos are in their best behavior, aced their exams, or just because I'm craving, Lucky Bakery is our go to place. Lauren is the best!!! such a sweetie, and impeccable customer service. Not sure if she bakes them too, if she does, THANK YOU for putting LOVE into each cupcakes you make. We order a few dozen once a month (at one time we were ordering them every week). I've been here several times every time I seem to always find what I need. Last time I was here I was happy to see that they had a limited addition crown royal. The butcher here is also great as you can take steak or chuck steak or whatever and have a ground up in a hamburger freshly. So you don't always have to buy the pre-ground hamburger. read more

She communicate the designed I wanted was no longer available and made other similar recommendations. Customer Service here was fantastic! However, the bakery might need to consider a little tip... I bought a pumpkin pie and banana cream pie (both tasted delicious!) but they were both frozen when my friends and I cut into them. ever since the pw market on vasco closed, lucky takes the title for most overpriced supermarket in livermore. prices here are consistently 20% higher than safeway at the first street exit. maybe lower for a few items due to a random sale here and there, but there's not always a cheaper store brand available. the worst is the produce section where you'll find bruised veggies at premium prices. i will say this place is clean and has plenty of parking. but livermore safeway is just as clean but also has a good dozen of the police/fire carts. much more kid-friendly than this overpriced lucky. read more

I'm not a "regular" at Lucky since the "other" store is closer to my house, but I do come here when I am on my way to work and need food for a work party. The employees are always friendly and helpful. They were my saviors in October when I needed a bunch of balloons blown up for our daughter's birthday party. Apparently there was a helium shortage and the "other" store was out of helium. I called around and thankfully Lucky allowed me to bring in my own balloons and inflated them for me. I did buy some of their balloons as well, so I was still supporting the store. But the floral lady was awesome and helped me out tremendously. I made two trips to the store that day- I had forgotten more balloons at home and went back to get them inflated. They had no problems helping me out. The store is in a nice shopping center on a fairly busy road, so I can only assume they get a lot of traffic. Plenty of parking. read more

Very friendly and helpful employees. Always asking if I need help out to my car with my groceries. Clean store, well organized. I come here regularly for my produce and anything deli wise! The Bakery/Deli service is amazing. Got a birthday cake for my son last month and it was fantastic. On an average day though, my boyfriend loves the potato salad, and my son loves the free samples. read more
