This place is nice and big. Nice bar like atmosphere however the food is ok and very expensive. We ordered the Carnitas Nachos. It was good but it needed a little more meat. I ordered the Shroom and Swiss burger. It was $17.00 and the burger was nothing to rave about. It was an ok burger. I had way better! I choose potato fries and that's an extra charge. The fries were good. The food is ok, nothing to brag about, and for what you get, I believe it's overpriced. The two stars are for the waitress. She was very attentive and very nice. read more

It's been almost a decade since I ate at Lucky Monk, and I'm kicking myself for that because this was a "WOW" experience. We recently stopped in for a family dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday, and everything was fantastic. Our server, Stephanie, was a delight. She told us to be sure to ask for her when we came back, and I think we will. I also saw a busser patiently help an older gentleman with a walker to his car. No doubt the busser is used to doing his work at top speed, and to watch him take such care was heartwarming. If he and Stephanie are indicative of the staff that's hired there, then The Lucky Monk is doing something right. All the food was delicious. I unintentionally ended up going with an Oktoberfest theme for my meal - Bavarian Pretzel (which is huge), Fest Beer Brat, and Fallen Angel beer. My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is that the flavor of the brat gets a little lost in all the toppings. Worth noting is that while it's a brew pub, it's also a great atmosphere for kids too. The cheeseburgers on the kids' menu were great. We sat outside on the patio, which is a lovely setting. I visited the restaurant a few days ago and some of the highlights were the ambiance and food. It was a very good meal for not that steep of a price. I loved the feel of the restaurant from the moment I walked in the front door. Rustic exposed brick gave you the feeling of being in monk's abby. Barrel adornment on some walls brought the room together well. Some of the barrels had names to beers and wine they offer. This is a place a family could go for some food or grab some drinks just you and a significant other. The food was very well made and delicious. Cheese curds were crispy, the burger was juicy and cooked perfectly, lastly was the brick oven like pepperoni pizza that had some of the largest pepperonis on it I have ever seen. Now the short coming was the disappointment that they only had two of the six beers they brew for the restaurant. They had non exclusive beers to offer but if you go somewhere that says they are a brewery you expect they serve more than just two of those beers. We did ask our very kind waiter what happened and he stated that they were out of the others and wouldn't have them back for at least two weeks. In closing this was a great and fun place to eat just wish they would have had more of their beers available. read more

First time at Lucky Monk and wow their burgers are good!! LM has a very nice upscale feel to it. We decided to eat outside, and it was beautiful with a little man-made (I think) lake in view. I asked the server what she recommended and she got excited and said, "If you like burgers you have to try the smash burger. It's not on the menu." Well, I love burgers and so we were off. When my burger came I couldn't believe how tall it was (see my pics). The smash burger has onions, pickles, lettuce, cheese, and some kind of delish mustardy sauce--one of the best burgers I've ever had : ) Fries were solid and the ambiance was very nice as was our waitress. Lucky Monk had a nice low light ambience which set the mood for a subtle chill setting for my friends and I to hangout and eat at. First, we ordered the Trappist Trio for us to consume as a family style appetizer. It consisted of three different items - Fried Pickles, Truffle Fries, and Wisconsin Cheese Curds. It was a good combination of crunchy and chewy food items. I personally loved the Fried Pickles and Wisconsin Cheese Curds! I decided to order a White Ale beer to wash all the food items consumed. My beverage was cold and bubbly... :) My fish and sweet potato fries entree came out and the presentation was on point. Every food item was nicely placed on the platter. I took a bite into the fish with a little tartar sauce on top and it was delicious! The fish was crunchy, steaming hot, and moist. Loved it! After all that, we ordered an order of sticky donuts. The sticky donuts had three different dips to choose from and I chose the strawberry and caramel dips. The texture of the donut was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside as I bit into it. We loved the sticky donuts! It was a great way to top off our hangout at Lucky Monk. Overall, a great place for food and drinks! read more

OK recently I have become obsessed with the chicken chili. It is so very delicious and nice to eat especially during the fall or winter. I accidentally ordered a bowl and the portion would have been good for 2-3 people depending on how hungry you are. This is now a new favorite. This place is delicious! I have come here a few times and I always LOVE everything when I do. This restaurant does get pretty busy, so I always try to make a reservation if I can before just coming here, especially on weekends. Last time my husband and I came, I ordered the Southsider burger and it was juicy and fresh, and the flavors worked so well together! I love spicy food, so it was perfect for me. I am also pretty picky when it comes to french fries, but their fries are delicious and crispy. I also highly suggest the truffle fries. My husband ordered a burger and loved it, as well! He just ordered a classic burger with bacon. This was the first time my husband has ever been here, and he is a buffalo wing connoisseur and our wonderful waiter said that they are known for them so he had to try them (Mike was going to get them for his meal but I wanted some too so we got these as an app instead and then Mike got a burger for his dinner). The buffalo wings here are something I crave, and they are hand-breaded to perfection. There really is no other place that has wings like these. They don't over bread their wings, but you can tell that the breading is fresh and homemade. My husband LOVED them and so do I. Lucky Monk also has an extensive beer list and they even have beer flights. You get 6 small glasses and it's so worth it if you want to try a little of everything. I for one am very picky with types of beer, so this isn't the right move for me, but I think it's such a cool idea. We're about ~40ish minutes away from Lucky Monk and have been there 5 times. The pretzel alone is worth the drive. If you pair it with the reuban sandwich or a burger and a beer flight; you'll be a happy camper. The service is always amazing. Very clean and ambiance is great! Enjoy! read more

I've been to Lucky Monks many times over the past 10 or so years and I always have a problem with the French fries, I always ask for fresh crispy fries and more times than not they are wormy or old. I was there last night with 3 friends. I asked the server for fresh fries, crispy fries, the fries were old. They had to be sitting out for at least 20 minutes or more. The place was pretty packed so I do not understand how they're not fresh French fries. On of my friends who orderedfries were old too!! I will ll continue to go there but I will have to obviously be very, very specific with the server and tell them that I want fresh fries. This place looses a start for 2 reasons - 1 it was pretty expensive and 2 it is a brewery that only had 3 house beers. And one of them was undrinkable- I'm not sure if there was soap in the glass or what but it was just bad. We told our server and he did not take it off the bill which was pretty lame. My partner and I were lucky to visit The Lucky Monk after watching a movie at AMC, which is just down the road from this restaurant. We came on a weekend for dinner, and it was quite busy. They use open table, so I would recommend getting a reservation if you're coming on the weekend since we waited 45 minutes for a table for 2. They conveniently will text you when your table is ready so you don't have to wait at the front entrance, especially if it's crowded. We made use of the benches outside to watch the beautiful sunset while we waited. My partner ordered the beer flight which is a great deal of $9 for 6 beers to try. I ordered the ace cider on the specials menu. Our server was friendly and our food came out very quickly despite how busy the restaurant was! We ordered mostly appetizers - BBQ Classic Jumbo Chicken Wings, Crispy Calamari, Sprouts Skillet, Wisconsin Cheese Curds and my partner also ordered Baja Fish Tacos. We loved all of the dishes! We paid about $80 for all of the above, not including tip. We definitely plan on coming back if we're in the area. read more

I hit up the Lucky Monk only to try their pizza, so this review is only based on that. I ordered a Margherita pizza to-go and sat down in the waiting area. The dining room looked nice on the inside, but I really felt like eating in. There could be a couple of other things on the menu that I wouldn't mind trying like a burger. Once I got my pizza I was immediately out. As I ate the pizza at home, I thought it was alright. The crust didn't have a rich tasty flavor nor did the sauce have pizzaz. The pizza was on the light side, but not terribly expensive. I feel there are much better pizzas in the area than what the Luck Monk has to offer. read more

While we're sampling, the pretzel is hands down the best appetizer and it's also huge. We come here around 1-2 times a month. Their burgers are fabulous, their beer is fabulous, their sandwiches (in general) are fabulous, and their servers are fabulous. Recently, I have been getting their TLM Smashburger and loaded fries; it is one of the best burgers I ever had and the loaded fries are fun for a change. This time, our server, Suzy, was perfectly attentive. If you needed something she was there but she didn't "hover." She is one of our favorites here. It had been rare we had a server we didn't like a lot. The Smashburger is just awesome: their Monk sauce is very good and the toppings are so perfectly balanced. I continue to believe the Monk Society Club is among my "best deals" ever. Tonight we added their Carnitas Nachos to our order (they were amazing) and they didn't last long. read more

Finding ourselves in South Barrington regularly, and noticing The Monk practically attached to the AMC theatre, my husband and I gave the hopping place a visit. After being seated, I looked around and found the design of the space didn't really offer anything for a noteworthy atmosphere. It didn't help that we (a couple) were seated next to a table with several young uns' competing for attention in a LOUD way. This became more prevalent after we ordered, and asked for a more remote place to sit and have our meal brought to us. Yes, it was busy, but having to wait for the manager to "okay" our request, we still had to wait until others were seated before we were finally placed in a cozy table near the bar. Food came. Good, but nothing to write home, I mean, YELP about. Burger and chicken sandwich, and fries were average at best. Beer was nice and cold! We realized our opinion could be jaded due to this first experience, but also because of the wonderful reviews, we decided to visit a 2nd time. We requested seating near the bar, which was comfortable. Our food order took a longer than expected, but service was very friendly. This time around, our order of a crispy chicken sandwich, caesar salad, and margherita pizza was also good, but again not noteworthy. We decided it isn't worth coming back to in comparing to our personal favorites, and perhaps it's just not our scene. read more

I came here to grab and early dinner with friends and it was the perfect spot for comforting food! I got the nawlin chicken sandwich, my one friend get the jang jang chicken sandwich, and my other friend got the classic burger and all items were excellent and very flavorful. We also got appetizers to share including the sprouts skillet and cheese curds which were a nice start to our meal as we waited for our entrees. Their beer selection is also very good and they have some non-alcoholic options as well. The service was very kind and attentive. As you can read from my previous reviews over the years, Lucky Monk and I have had a love/hate relationship. Lucky Monk is one of our favorite restaurants to visit as a family. They have changed the menu over the years and not for the better. The pretzels used to come with a delicious mustard side but that was unfortunately replaced by the cinnamon butter. They removed the Short Rib Pasta a long time ago, which was the best thing on the menu. They removed the heart clogging grilled cheese burger which was a fantastic indulgence for every once in a while. In the last year they also replaced the "spicy dip" that came with the cheese curds with a garlic aioli, but thankfully you can just ask for the spicy dip instead. I have come to terms with sticking with what I know and not venturing from that. The fish and chips are delicious every time and that is the only thing I ever order. We always get the pretzel and cheese curds (but edit the sauce it they come with) for the table. The Tritica Wheat is my favorite beer on the menu and the Fallen Angel is a distant second. read more

This place is pretty good! I like the location (right next to the AMC in South Barrington) and I like how accommodating they've been with the pandemic. They have both indoor and outdoor seating (you can even reserve a heated igloo for the outdoor!) which is all very nice. I've been here exactly twice now, and feel like I've got a decent Handel on what they're about. The food is very good, not life changing where you must go back for a certain item, but it's pretty decent bar food. The service has been decent as well. My only really complaint is they're craft beers. I know they've got their own brewery and I'm pretty disappointed that none of their beers really resonated with me, especially after hearing so much hype about them from friends. Ah well. On my most recent trip here I tried The Smoke Daddy BBQ burger (very good burger, bbq sauce and bacon were surprisingly well prepared and really added a lot to it), the giant pretzel , the fried pickles the margarita pizza, and the Nawlins chicken sandwich. The pizza was pretty good, the pretzel is damn near perfect, the fried pickles and the Nawlins sandwich were just ok. Next time I'd really like to try a different burger and the cheese curds. read more

We had reservations for 7pm on a Saturday night, and we were sat immediately. Even for a gross snowy day, the place was still very busy. Our waitress Madison was so sweet, and she even remembered us from the last time we ate at TLM months ago. The service was great tonight, I have nothing bad to say. The food was also delicious, as usual. Sad to say they removed the crispy cauliflower from the menu, but they did have a special tonight for bang bang shrimp which were quite delicious. I had to get the southsider burger, cooked to a beautiful medium rare, with the best sweet potato fries. They are coated in sugar and are delightfully crispy. Stopped in here before a concert at the Now Arena. We placed a reservation easily through the app Open Table. Every time I come here it is a great experience. The servers are always fast and friendly. The food is never a disappointment. While the food is always good, nothing on the menu stands out over the other. The margherita pizza was just okay and the wife's fish and chips seemed undercooked. We ordered the sticky donuts for dessert. I am not a dessert guy but the wife loved them and I enjoyed the single bite I got. I would ask for all raspberry sauce and forgo the chocolate and caramel. read more
