First time and pleasantly surprised. Very busy Saturday night. Server was knowledgeable and friendly albeit very busy and long waits between seeing her for drink refills, extra napkins, etc. Food was very good-BBQ burger, BBQ Chicken Salad, and grilled chicken sandwich were all delicious. This place is so good!!! We started with the appetizer pretzel that was bigger than my head! It comes with cinnamon butter, mustard and a spicy cheese sauce. It was really good but the $17 price tag is a bit steep so I don't think I'd get it again...plus it filled us up a lot before our meals even came lol. 9/10 for taste but 6/10 for value I forgot to take pics of our main dishes but my husband ordered the pork carnitas nachos from the appetizers as his main meal. They were huge so him and I ended up splitting them and could barely finish them. They were delicious! The pork was so favorable and the combination of it with the other toppings pushed it over the top! 10/10 My son got the smash burger and upgraded to the loaded fries. He said everything was very good; the burger was similar to a gourmet Big Mac 7/10 and the loaded fries were very tasty but maybe a bit too much cheese (is that possible?) 8/10For desert the two of them split the skillet cookie. I really wanted to love The Lucky Monk, but they did not have a single one of their own beers on tap available!! Not a single one!! Beer is what brought me here in the first place. I heard the food was good but the beer is what I thought would make the place special. Any restaurant in the area can serve you a Noon Whistle or a Revolution, but you can't get a Lucky Monk beer anywhere except here as far as I know. That said the food was really good and the service was great!! We were seated in a very comfy booth with a nice window view. Too bad it was 5 degrees out - the window did get a little drafty for those seated next to it, but that's not the Lucky Monk's fault. Everyone loved their food - sandwiches and a pizza were all great. The calamari appetizer was good, not the best I've had but very nice overall. It wasn't bad. This was dinner on the way to a movie. The server seemed a little... busy, perhaps? But it was to the point of being rude. For instance, when he dropped off a flight he was talking so fast one could hardly understand what he was trying to explain about how the flight was set up, and when asked to repeat it he seemed like he was trying to hurry up and leave again rather than slow down and make it clear. Same when he came to take our order--he was kind of talking over us at times, like when my dining partner was trying to make sure to get his order modifications clear. But then when they started talking about the flight and which ones he liked the server was a bit more chatty and congenial, so I don't know what to make of it! They offer free valet parking. They also have a large parking lot, so I'm not sure when it's necessary. read more

HOPPY HOUR We had a staycation in Schaumburg and found this great place for Happy Hour specials. We spent the day shopping at the mall and needed a place to decompress from all of the holiday shoppers. Yes we need beer! All of their beers that they brew were half off, as well as their appetizers were half price. Can we say, "Deal!"? How do I get this location in downtown Chicago? It's time to open a second location. We started out with the TRITICA WHEAT ALE. Which was $2.25 for Happy Hour. Now that's a real deal! Their Weiss beer is unfiltered. It is a cloudy German wheat ale with a spicy banana bread flavor & a slight caramel finish, with no hop flavor or aroma. It was 5.5% ABV / 15BU. I really loved it. I love a good wheat beer and this was a real winner. My wife wasn't a huge fan. I think she wasn't happy with the unfiltered part of the beer. We started out with the CARNITAS NACHOS. Happy Hour price was $6.50. This was the best deal of the night and I'd highly recommend ordering two platters. The slow roasted pork was fantastic. It was over their house made tortilla chips along with queso fondue(fancy wording for cheese sauce), pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, sour cream & green onion. This platter was the star of the show and our favorite dish we ordered. For our second beer we moved to the FALLEN ANGEL. Hey it was Christmas time and I figured we'd toast to this poor angel that needs to fly. Happy Hour price was $3.25. Did I mention how much I love this place? Luckily my wife loved this Vienna style larger much better then her first beer. I must admit it was really good too. It's a classic amber lager which is slightly toasted with a nutty, malt taste and very low bitterness. It was 6.3% ABV / 24BU. I'd order this again for sure. I'd probably bring a bell with too so I can get this angel some wings. We went big and ordered more appetizers but nothing topped the nachos. We did like the TRAPPIST TRIO. It came with truffle fries, cheese curds, pickle fries. Each one had their own dipping sauces which included a spicy dipping sauce, chipotle ranch and tomato fondue. The Happy Hour price was $6. I really loved those deep fried pickles. I'm surprised more restaurants don't make fried pickles. The truffle fries were my wife's favorite and you can never go wrong with cheese curds. We have been a little cauliflower crazy. It seems like every restaurant is serving cauliflower. After decades of being a forgotten vegetable it's time for cauliflower to shine. Unfortunately the CRISPY CAULIFLOWER isn't highlighted very well here. I found the dish to not be that great. The cuts of cauliflower were so inconsistent. There were large chunks and small chunks and this lead to soft and raw pieces of fried cauliflower. They were beer battered and had a Fresno chili preserves for dipping. Happy Hour price was $6.50. I'm glad I didn't pay full price because I would have been mad. I love CALAMARI but I wasn't in love with the crispy calamari here. It was Point Judith squid. I did love that it was made with giardiniera. That's a very east coast move. Happy Hour price was $7.50. I'd probably never order these again. Again I was happy to not pay full price. I would have been very very unhappy, if I paid full price. Hey it's called Happy Hour for a reason. The prices are keeping me really happy! The Happy Hour was a great way to investigate and try out the menu here. I really loved the beer. It was nice to pay half price and truly find what we liked. The atmosphere was really nice and as the evening went on the restaurant really filled up. Our waiter was totally awesome. Let me say this first: I DID NOT WANT TO SHARE MY BURGER WITH MY BF lol We would usually order a burger each and split so we can try different burgers in case we didn't like the other one. It made me so sad I only ate half of the Elvis because it was so good. He needed to try it too, to experience the joy it gave to me. I'm not a peanut butter fan but I'll eat a pb&j or Reece's sometimes. But when I read the description for the Elvis, I was just so curious. I've never seen a combo like that before and I'm so glad I ordered it! I enjoyed the Southsider as well but not as much as the Elvis. The peanut butter was creamy smooth and just paired so well with the caramelized banana. They picked the banana at the right time. It wasn't too ripe where it would be too sweet. We both upgraded our fries to poutine fries. Although he got loaded fries and I got poutine, they were both delicious. Tasted completely different even though they kind of look the same. The poutine felt like a meal itself. The gravy was the best! Drench all on the bottom too! The cheese curds were definitely a hit too. Finish those bad boys and the tomato sauce that they served with it! Service was on point. I always love when anybody other than your server will stop by to ask if you need anything or to just fill your water glass again. Team work makes the dream work! And for a place that has their own brewery on site, they were out of dark beer and stout. I would stay away if you're looking for late food and good local beer they don't have it. Our server, Jerry, was attentive and worked our group of eleven like a pro. The fish and fries were great. Flaky fried fish, moist, flavorful. Another chicken sandwich meal was made well, though the bacon was limp rather than crispy. I ordered the patty melt medium without onions. It came to the table and when I cut it in half, it was medium rare. I sent it back. When it came to the table again, I cut it in half, and it was even more rare. I sent it back again and told them just to cook it well done. While everyone was finishing their lunch, my third party melt arrived. I cut it in half, and this time it was medium. I ate that because that's what I originally requested, but still not cooked the way I had asked the last time (well done). The other comment I would make about the patty melt is that it calls for Swiss cheese. While it did have a slice of Swiss cheese on it, it also had a slice of American cheese on it. I don't know of any patty melt that includes American cheese. I would go back to this restaurant because the service was good and the help was attentive, but I would not order a patty melt again. Lastly, the fries were excellent. This is a typical sports bar. Though out of the four tv screens I could see, only one showed the Bears game. The other 3 were showing the Lions game. Lucky Monk is one of those reliable local spots that you could always count on when you can't decide on where else to go for dinner. Back in the day, Lucky Monk was always part of the dinner and a movie Saturday night. Beer Flight - You always gotta start of the meal with a nice beer sampler of their local brews. You get 6 small glasses for $9. Not a bad deal. Buffalo Wings - The wings are low-key the best item on the menu. Usually buffalo wings at a bar aren't that great, with a soft/flabby skin and overwhelmingly tangy sauce. At Lucky Monk though, they're always amazing. They're super meaty with a light breading that provides the perfect crispness without tasting overly breaded. The sauce had the perfect balance of richness, spice, and tang, and they coated the wings just enough to be saucy without drowning the wings and softening its crisp. The ranch was the perfect complimentary cooling flavor and had my preferred level of runniness without being too thick. Nawlins Chicken - I'm usually a burger guy, but the Nawlins Chicken sandwich combines all my favorite flavors together in a single sandwich. All their sandwiches are a little deceiving because they're sitting on top of a wooden disc that makes it look bigger than it really is, although it definitely doesn't lack in flavor. It's got a juicy cajun chicken breast, crispy onion strings, a spicy kick from the pepper jack cheese, and then a creamy garlic mayo smothered on the bun. Pepperoni Pizza - The pizza here is pretty underrated too. The texture was somewhere in between a Neopolitan and a New York slice. The crust was airy and bubbly with a crisp edge but still soft interior. On top were massive slices of pepperoni that had the slightest crisp char on the edges. Cookie Skillet - Nothing beats a freshly baked cookie topped with good quality vanilla bean ice cream. Lucky Monk has one of the best cookie skillets out there. Overall, Lucky Monk not only has a good selection of microbrews, but the food menu is legitimately great. read more

We like wheat beers so for those of you who like Blue Moon or 312 give the White rascal a try. Three Carnitas nachos are my favorite. We've gotten them almost every time we go and are absolutely delicious. We got the burger of the month also. I forgot what it's called but it's a truffle mushroom kinda thing. Not that good. I asked the hostess for a booth...this was around 2:30 pm. She was struggling with her chart and made a comment about staffing. Finally I said ok a table is fine, but not in an open area. She seated us next to the service station and party room, at the edge of the dining room. She made an attempt to move the table an inch away from the aisle, onto the dining rug. Really did not listen to the consumer. Our same waiter was caring for the many empty booths that were filled up as we waited for our food. Not happy at all. Waiter was nice enough, no water refill, food was good. Disappointed with the hostess most of all. Had a lunch meeting in Hoffman Estates and my team decided to go out to Lucky Monk! Interior and environment can be best described as dark, chill, and Panera-y. Definitely seems to be a popping bar, and there are some locally brewed beers they serve here as well, although I(unfortunately) could not partake as I was technically at work. That day I was feeling a chicken sandwich and the Nawlin's Chicken Sandwich caught my eye. I'm also a sucker for Truffle Fries so I did the $3 upgrade and let me tell you it was absolutely worth it! Food took a little over 25 minutes to come which was longer than I expected considering it was past what I would assume was the high trafficked lunch hour. But alas it was worth the wait. As you can tell this chicken burger was STACKED! The chicken was seasoned and cooked very well, absolutely delicious. My favorite part of the burger was the chilly-garlic mayo, the sweetness of the bun, and the crispy onion strings! Now complement this delicious burger with some truffle fries and you are DEFINITELY going to need an afternoon coffee to get you through the rest of the work day. I proceeded to inhale the remainder of my fries to the dismay of my new boss and I have no regrets whatsoever. Absolutely worth another round at some point in the future. I've been wanting to try Lucky Monk for ages, so I was excited to have lunch there Dec. 22. My party of two had no wait for a table, though we were only able to eat at a high-top table. I ordered the Twisted Chicken sandwich (hold the bacon), which came with a large serving of fries. My friend had fish tacos with elotes. We both finished every bite. Our server was friendly, but his timing seemed a bit off -- checking on us almost too often early on, then not returning for a bit when we were finishing up and ready to pay. But our orders were accurate and he kept our water glasses full, so really no complaints and I'd definitely eat there again. We saw several other tables order the giant Bavarian pretzels, which looked really good. I might need to return sometime for one of those! read more

Initially I was not a fan of this restaurant. The indoor host staff was a little rude and confusing for us having had a reservation, but our server Blanca was so sweet and welcoming. I am so glad we stayed. The outdoor seating layout is really nice and faces most of the tables toward the lake. Also, depending where you are seated, there are heated lamps above the tables. The menu here has a lot of variety. While we just wanted apps and drinks, I saw a table near us with pizzas and they all look amazing! I would not recommend coming without a reservation. Again we had one and still had to remind the host table I was waiting to be sat not knowing what I was exactly waiting for.
