Lucky Wok is a great addition to the North Valley food scene. They have an extensive menu of favorites, including lunch plates, as well as a good variety of vegetarian offerings. I'm hooked on the Garlic Eggplant - spicy, garlicky and just a little greasy (in a good way). My other favorite is Chow Fun - broad rice noodles with choice of beef, pork, chicken or tofu - I usually go for the beef. The prices are reasonable, their take out packaging is excellent, there's plenty of parking for pick-up, and the owners are friendly & helpful. They're doing everything right thru the pandemic. I hope the community continues to support them so they can remain open. read more

This review is for a take out order on 18 Jan 2020. This popped up on my "Hot and New" filter, and we both had a craving for some Chinese food one night and gave this place a try. We ordered some pepper steak, orange chicken, and pork fried rice. After about 12 mins, we headed out to pick up our food, which was about 18-20 mins away. It's tucked away just south of Griegos and 4th, in a shopping strip. Inside is pretty small, with maybe 3 tables, but since it was a pick up, the food was ready when we arrived, and they included 2 fortune cookies, some silverware, napkins, soy sauce and some hot mustard. We got home and tried it out, and it was pretty good. Nothing special, but it will fill the Chinese food cravings. The orange chicken could've use more "orange" flavor, according to my wife, and it did have some thai chiles in it, which gave it a little spice. The chicken was good, and breaded like other Chinese places. The pepper steak was good. Again, nothing out of the ordinary, but above average. The meat was good, the green peppers were good. The pork fried rice, again, and I hate to keep saying this, was good. Overall, if you have a craving for Chinese, give this place a try. I think it's an above average Chinese spot, that will satisfy the cravings easily. read more

We keep taking the same vegetarian dishes and end up licking our fingers. I'd recommend combining any of the tofu dishes (Ma Po, Home Style...) with a Buddha dish. Tofu dishes come with delightful sauces but no veggies, whereas the Buddha dish is only veggies with a very light sauce, so it goes perfectly with the tofu stuff. I bought take out from this small restaurant close to my home recently and was pleasantly surprised at the two lunch specials I got. While this is no San Francisco eatery, I loved the freshness and the quality ingredients. They accommodated my request for mild spice in the Szechwan beef dish. The sauces were light(I hate too much thickening in some Chinese restaurant food), not too salty, and pretty tasty. The price is right, too. I stopped into this new place this evening for dinner. There are maybe five tables, and a brisk carry-out business. The owner/manager has to run the house and also the phones and register, which means there can be a delay. If dining in, consider going a bit later after 7) when things slow down a bit. All that being said, it was worth the wait. The hot and sour soup was terrific. The cashew chicken was excellent as well - vegetables were fresh, chicken of good quality and the sauce quite good if just a bit sweet. The food is decent, not spectacular. These people rarely answer their phone. Trying to call in orders is exhausting. If they are 30 minutes from closing, they don't answer the phone. Most times in general, they don't answer the phone. I've called dozens of times over the course of several months, and they haven't answered their phone. This small business has excellent customer service, great food, and an affordable extensive menu! I love seeing these small businesses pop up in our neighborhoods and this one needs to stick around! The server knew several customers orders when they walked in and he was very kind and even let me try one of the soups when I ordered the alternative, even though I didn't think I'd like it. This has become my favorite place to eat in my neighborhood. I really appreciate how fresh and tasty the food is. I've ordered both meat and vegetarian dishes and never been disappointed. The homestyle tofu and garlic eggplant are two of my favorite dishes. I appreciate the variety of veggies that come with the tasty tofu, and I had no idea eggplant could taste so buttery! I don't think I even like eggplant very much in normal situations. The spicy vegetarian dumplings are in a great, traditional sauce, and the orange chicken sauce is fragrant and has actual orange zest in it. They don't always have brown rice available as a substitute, but they try. Hahaha. The people who work here are all so nice--I always feel positively about my experience. A thought about takeout Chinese food during COVID-19: packaging makes an impression. When it comes to Chinese food, specifically, nothing beats those little white boxes with wire handles. I've yet to find any restaurant in the 505 that serves takeout in such containers, but to me they're the everyday equivalent to the Mary Poppins Magic Bag: the more you dig, the more you find. It's truly shocking to discover not one, but two meals in a tiny carton, same goes for the rice. If I could suggest just one thing to my new nearby favorite American Chinese eatery, Lucky Wok, it would be to ditch the styrofoam containers -- we won't dog the price uptick -- for the ethnically anticipated packaging du jour. (Plus, it'll score big bonus points for us "eco-minded" consumers who feel like we're doing the earth a good turn by sending less trash to the landfill, even if we're driving the meal home in an SUV.) Your need-to-know: this is solid American Chinese food. I'll explore the menu at greater detail in the coming months, but this is the joint I wish I had in my backyard. Egg drop soup tastes like watery corn and pepper soup. Rice is undercooked. Also, it's grainy, more like cous cous. Nothing in the fried rice; such as peas, carrots, or egg. Just rice. Crab Rangoon is so hard you might break a tooth on it. I ordered moo goo gai pan. I don't know what "meat" they're using. Chicken had a weird corttage cheese-like texture. It crumbles in your mouth, and doesn't seem cooked. Steamed, maybe? And yes, if you're wondering: steamed meat is every bit as appetizing as it sounds. Didn't look or taste like chicken. Sauce was flavorless except for salt, and there was too much of that. Mushrooms were sparse and paper thin. Too many carrots and too much celery. Egg roll was all wrapper, no filling. (You don't need 4 layers of wrap: just makes the inside one raw. Gross!) Not even one good bite out of 5 dishes. My boyfriend and I just moved to ABQ from DFW and we were looking for our new favorite Chinese takeout place that delivered via UberEats and we think this may be the one! We ordered the veggie egg rolls, spicy chicken dumplings, honey chicken, and sesame chicken. We received all of that plus sweet and sour sauce for the egg rolls, and a big box of white rice. Everything arrived at warm and fresh, and every single thing tasted great. Portion sizes are huge for what you're paying for. We still have much of it left over to use another day. I wish I had a better review. Tonight we ordered from Lucky Wok for the 2nd and last time. It's the closest Chinese restaurant in my 'hood. We ordered Beef Chop Suey, Veg Lo Mein, Veg Egg Foo Yong. There were lots of vegetables, which is great. That being said flavor was completely missing. When I put the Beef Chop Suey on my rice it did not change the flavor of the rice and that is wrong. I've read reviews from others who have had a better experience than we did. I did not spend my childhood in ABQ and in my childhood we had our neighborhood place called Bamboo House, that is my benchmark. read more

The place is small with a few tables but it was not claustrophobic. You have the option to eat in or order take out. Very good! What a treat during all this staying at home. I ordered the 3 meat spicy stir fry, chicken wings, curry and potstickers. All were very tasty, packaged neatly and arrived on time. My favorite is Rising Star Chinese right now, but they are not offering delivery. So in a pinch I ordered from Lucky won and was really pleased. Only complaint was the chicken wings still had "hairs" on them..and a bit overcooked, but they were still ok. They don't use too much salt, sugar and grease in their food, so it's much better than a lot of the other places that serve "gloppy" dishes. Potstickers were awesome! read more

When LW notes that when they say a dish is spicy it is very spicy, even for a New Mexican. The fried rice had many more vegetables than the usual and was delicious. The chicken and vegetable dish was good. Crab ragoons were fabulous with a good amount of filling. I ordered a non-spicy tofu dish but it came medium spicy and that was disappointing.
