Tonight, my wife and I went to Viet Rice for the first time. They've been there for several years, but we have never gone. After this experience, I can honestly say that we have missed out for a long time. I had their Egg Noodle bowl, with port. Oh, WOW, yummy!!! It had some wonderful season and made it a delight to eat. My wife had their Clay Pot which is a rice dish. It was also very delicious. And the clay pot really kept the dish hot!! The service was wonderful. They came by multiple times to see how we were doing, how we were enjoying the food, etc. We went on a Tuesday, so it was a quiet night. It was very pleasant. We had the beef pho (which they call "beef special noodle soup" and the fried rice. $29. The pho had almost no flavor. There was a hint of flavor but just a hint. Adding sauces didn't do much to help this dish. The fried rice which includes shrimp was better than average. But, not that much better to overcome the drab pho. Viet Rice has been a staple in my life for over 20 years. The food has never steered me wrong and the choices are always wonderful. The most recent visit we came in for Pho with the best broth. Decor definitely a Vietnamese flavor. Drinks to start - including the Thai Tea. It was bland and watery, not the nice creamy style we're accustomed to. The fried wontons were better, tasty - not over fried. For entrees we got the Spicy Lemongrass with beef and a Combination Curry - chicken, beef & shrimp. Both with medium heat. We ordered delivery and it came quickly. Placed an order for two of the football rolls which were so delicious, 10/10 I recommend. The image shows 6 rolls a plate so 2 orders was enough for us but when delivered we only had 10 roll instead of 12 in the box. It was disappointing. I had chicken fried rice which was more then enough to make two meals out of it. Everyone enjoyed their food. It's definitely a place to experience just make sure when you order a lot nothing is missing, I'm assuming they realized we ordered 2 orders and then throwing both orders in one box we wouldn't notice the 2 missing. This place has good pho! I believe the best pho in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho. The flavor is rich, the veggies are fresh. The restaurant is clean, and the waitress is very polite and friendly. My husband and I have ordered take out from Viet Rice many times. Their fried rice and egg noodles have been amazing in the past. We recently had an unfortunate situation that arose due to our order being made incorrectly and then receiving poor service in response to the issue. We realized part of our order was incorrect upon returning home. We also realized what we thought we ordered was not what we received. The menu item images on the online ordering system are not the same as the paper menu, thus leading to confusion. Some of menu item images on the online ordering system are not like what you actually receive. This may be due to generic images being used? An example being the egg noodles image now shows up as a plate of stroganoff type noodles. We returned back to the restaurant to have the menu item corrected/remade, because the biggest problem was the fact that the item was made with tofu and we asked for no tofu. We were met with poor customer service from an older and what seemed like irritable woman, about the mistake that was made. We were told the order could be remade but we would only receive half the portion we originally ordered due to the fact that the dry noodles from the original order could not be returned back in the original state they were picked up in. In the original order, the noodles came separate from the sauce/veggies. As advised, upon preparing to eat the dish, we placed the sauce onto all the noodles, and then realized it had tofu in it, thus the dry noodles became soaked in the sauce and condensed down. The female employee then argued with us about the situation. She did then offer a refund as a different option, but we were again told we would only receive a portion of it, again, due to the fact that the extra noodles we originally ordered had been added to the original orders sauce, which was food we did not eat due to it being incorrect. We had brought the original order back in the original container to show the staff as proof it was wrong and contained all the noodles, including the extra ones she was fixated on. We also provided the original receipt that stated "no tofu" on the noodle item and "extra noodles" for $6. The female employee scoffed at us and then asked her younger male employee to give us cash back as a refund, but it was 6 dollars short. We pushed for the additional money we were owed for the extra noodles and the female employee rudely yelled "fine, give them the 6 dollars." All in all, we were not given the exact amount we originally paid, just a close estimate. This situation left us feeling very confused and unheard. The way the situation was handled was almost shocking due to the level of emotional reactivity the female employee had towards us, when all we wanted was the order corrected. She may have possibly thought we were lying about the extra noodles, or trying to pull a fast one on her? Not sure, but we were patient and kind for the duration, despite the rude behavior on the company's end. Sadly, we will not be returning to this establishment. This way of handling order mistakes they make is not appropriate nor ethical. read more

This place has the best vegan clay pot! (It's not listed as vegan on the menu but they easily customize it to be vegan by adding tofu and omitting the fish sauce.) I didn't even know what a clay pot was but my dad recommended it and now I'm obsessed. It's fried rice topped with veggies but way better than just regular fried rice. It's filling but feels light and healthy like a home cooked meal. It's the only thing I've ever gotten from here so that's all I can speak on but it's bomb. My husband and I come here often for it. Authentic Thai style Vietnamese Pho! Hahaha... what that means is it's good and true it doesn't taste too, American. The broth is good. The noodles are right. The way that it is packaged to go is perfect, with everything separated out. Make sure when you get home you reheat the broth to HOT. Then put the noodles in a bowl and pour the hot broth over the noodles, and just let your appetite wet... then top your beautiful bowl of noodle soup with everything else: fresh bean sprouts, sliced jalapeños, fresh cilantro, sliced green onion, and some little tasty bits of what I think was bacon. If anyone reads my evaluations it's easy to see that I love Pho. I tried Viet Rice today and ordered the Chicken noodle soup (Pho). I added Chicken at an additional cost. I loved their Chicken broth, it was salty and sweet at the same time. The Chicken that was added was somewhat less than I expected, but it was flavorful and added to the overall dish. A plate of Cilantro, been sprouts, lime and jalapeno was provided as a garnish. I sometimes hold off putting the bean sprouts into the broth because they are cold and tend to reduce the broths temperature. The noodles I chose were rice, but other options are available. I mostly order Beef with Brisket and love the Star Anise flavor. After completing my meal I was very satisfied and I do recommend the Chicken Noodle soup. read more

He worried because Viet Rice sits sandwiched in a strip mall, south of Smiths on 528. I told him not to worry, that Viet Rice had high Yelp ratings. He had to trust in the Yelpers. The dining room looked extremely clean and the waitress quickly wrote down our order. I order the #22 Crispy Egg Noodles topped with a meat combination (chicken, shrimp, pork, beef) for $13.99. These egg noodles were topped with broccoli, snow peas, bamboo shoots, onions, and carrots. I enjoyed the combination of crispy noodles, cooked noodles, delicious meats and the snappy vegetables. The chef came out and we congratulated him on some amazing dishes. All of the photos of the different dishes looked quite tasty (see attached photo). For both dishes, I paid a total of $27.44. So, the partner in crime and I were lazy to cook, and didn't want fast food. We thought of places we haven't tried and Viet Rice came to mind! Glad it did because it was pretty freaking delicious! We got take out so don't know how the dine in is but the service was good, food prepared fast, and we were on our way! I am a connoisseur of fried rice, and this was some good stuff! My wife had the ginger rice, and that was amazing. I wasn't to thrilled with the spring roll, it was pretty plain... I am a fan of sour papaya salad that is not overly sweet and this place is the only place I could find in Albuquerque that does not have sweet papaya salad and I am from Seattle. Husband and I went here for lunch today. I ordered a bowl of Wonton soup. The description said the wontons were made with pork. The wontons had a very strong fishy taste to them and not at all the taste I was expecting. It was not very good at all. When I asked the waiter what the wontons were made with he went to ask and reported back they are made with pork and crab. This is concerning because if someone has a shellfish allergy this could be quite dangerous that it was not listed in their ingredients. I complained about the flavor and only got an I'm sorry. Also their bill adds a $.19 addition fee for using a credit or debit card. Please beware. read more

I really want to give these restaurants I eat at higher scores but in good conscious I just can't. I wouldn't be true to myself if I did. I came in to this establishment this afternoon and had the Little Pork filled footballs which were OK with the dipping sauce. The bahn mi of beef, was another story. The serving was huge the club roll was at least 14 inches long and cut in half. The meat was strange as it was almost like a soft jerky no pickled vegetables and no sweet flavor to the sandwich at all. .The server was nice, my table was clean but the windows to the establishment were dirty, the bamboo blinds on the window were crookedly set, and the bottled condiments on the tables are filthy dirty some were only a quarter full so attention to detail is just not there. Pork was super flavorful. Tofu spring rolls & shrimp spring rolls - Only ingredients were iceberg lettuce and rice noodles so will not order again as we prefer rolls with more veggies/herbs. Clay pot with tofu - Cleverly packed so saucy veggies would not touch rice - ensured no soggy rice. Mango salad with tofu - Yummm, mango tasted very fresh. We ordered from here via Grub Hub for the first time. It was one of those nights and cooking was not an option. I ordered the Egg Noodles(#20) bowl and two orders of Fresh Spring Rolls. The food came from GrubHub within about 35 mins. The food arrived hot and very fresh and man was it good! The Egg Noodle bowl was a lot of food. I ordered it with shrimp. The shrimp was nicely cooked not overly done but with just enough bite. The vegetables were crisp, fresh and had a nice bite to them. The noodles were plentiful and together with it was a tasty sauce. The sauce was not overpowering, but had the perfect taste that encompassed all the other ingredients. The fresh spring rolls were just that Fresh! They were wrapped in a nice cold, soft rice paper. When you bit into each, you got a nice cold, crisp taste of the vegetables and in my case shrimp too. It came with a nicely flavored sauce, it was a little sweet, salty and tangy all in one. It really complimented the rolls nicely. Each order had two spring rolls. Comfortable relaxed dining restaurant. Service was attentive and polite. The duck soup is duck forward delicious. Plenty of duck, noodles, veggies and flavourful broth. Wow!!!! I'm impressed...this place has been under new ownership and congrats the new owners for reinventing this establishment. The restaurant has been renovated, it's clean, and the food is way way better than I remembered from years ago when I used to come here. Whenever a Vietnamese restaurant brings you very fresh vegetables, it shows they take pride in their food. That's one of my indicators. Very friendly service. And I have to mention that they have a loyal following. A customer who sat in the corner we were told comes every day for his daily soup, EVERYDAY... I stopped in for lunch & had their Spicy Lemon Grass (with chicken) and rice. The mixed veggies & chicken stir fry was indeed spicy, being liberally laced with red pepper flakes & ginger, and well flavored with fish sauce. The rice was the usual long or medium grain white rice. The portion was plenty big. It may look smaller in my pictures because that plate is 14" diameter, I think. They use HUGE plates, so it creates a bit of an optical illusion. Loss of a star due to the rice having a somewhat chemical taste, like chlorine almost, when first sampled by itself. I assume this is due to using regular Rio Rancho tap water, which in my past experience can register a strong mineral or chemical taste on occasion, to make the rice. Not really the chef's fault, but still... Another inconsistency was that the taste of the stir fry varied from bite to bite, as if it hadn't been well mixed in the wok. The bites all tasted good, but some were stronger with ginger while others brought more fish sauce flavor. While they still have flan cake on their menu in the restaurant & online, which I'd hoped to try, the waiter explained they no longer make it due to it taking a long time to make. Bummer. I found the interior space pleasant, well lit, and efficiently laid out. I think it would make an inexpensive & pleasant venue for a date or dinner out. But I was there mid-afternoon so can't speak to dinner time noise level. I give them a bit of a demerit for having tv sound as background when I was there instead of music, which is a personal preference. The waiter was pleasant and extremely conscientious in his job, keeping my water glass filled & checking back a few times to insure that all was well. Easy five stars for service. Price was in line with food quality & very pleasant surroundings, just shy of $10 including tax for lunch. BOTTOM LINE: I would gladly return to Viet Rice to sample their pho or other dishes. I'm pretty happy with the pho in Albuquerque. On the westside there are three strong options, Siagon 2, Pho Bar and Viet Rice. Viet Rice's location is the most convenient to me (I'm in Corrales). I usually order the Pho (pronounced f-uh not f-oh) The meat is fresh, the veggies are fresh and the broth is really good. Try getting a little side bowl for a hoisen and srirachi and lime mixture to dip your meat into before gobbling it all up. Service is a little slow, which knocks a star off the rating. read more

After a long day at an event in Rio Rancho my group and I were searching for a place that wouldn't be packed with other people. Luckily this was one of the top choices on Yelp! I called to check if they'd be able to accommodate our large group and they did! The service was wonderful from the moment we arrived to when we left they made sure we had everything we needed and answered the endless questions about the food and didn't get bothered by the fact that we had some late arrivals to the group. The food was also very delicious. I went with the Spicy Lemongrass with Chicken and it was SPICY! It contained chicken,celery, and a reddish chili flakes sauces they stir fried it in along with a side of steamy white rice. My plate was about $11 which was very affordable for the food! Because I like to share I also got a taste of a couple other dishes like the Pho which was amazing.
