I have nothing but good things to say about the guys at Car Muffler & Automotive. I have been servicing my 11-year-old car here for the past 3 years and can say they are honest and get the job done right. Might they be a tad more expensive than the hole in the wall mechanics down the street? Perhaps... But at least I can trust these guys. As an example, I had my car inspected at the Nissan dealer and was told I needed all sorts of work done on it. I took my car to Car Muffler and was told a lot of what the dealer was telling me just wasn't needed. The guys at Car Muffler could very easily have lied and agreed with the dealer to get more work from me, but they were upfront and honest about what ACTUALLY had to be done on my car. They have been in business for something like 45 years, so they have to be doing something right. The only thing that saddens me now is that I am getting rid of my old car so probably won't be seeing them as much! read more

Went in for a check engine light (but otherwise driving in perfect condition), apparently due to clogged fuel injectors. Left with an empty wallet and the whole day blown. Dropped it off at 10am, and didn't hear from them until 3pm when I called to inquire on the progress. From that point it was a rush by them to get as many repairs as they could on the vehicle. There was a supposedly a leaking radiator hose that they claim required immediate attention, though I have never seen any leaking or elevated temperatures ($90) which I had not authorized but was "fixed" anyways when I went to pick up the vehicle. The glorified fuel induction service itself rang up to $300. Finally coughed up $500 for what was a check engine light -- from clogged fuel injectors. read more

I'm not recommend this place for oil change. The customer service awful. I called two days before to ask price for oil change service and make appointment for next day(8am). Price was 50$. I came next day and the guy on front desk said that I have to wait 2 hours!!!!didn't even though I had appointment. After 2 hours someone called me again and asked for new appointment. I made new one for the next day. When they gave me the total it was 100$????Wtf????You said price will be no more 50$....I'm NOT RECOMMEND this not professional place!!!!!!!!! read more

I don't recommend this place at all. Pep boys recommended them to look at the A/C in my 1986 BMW. Mike (or Michael) wasn't the most pleasant guy to talk to. I tried asking for an appointment to bring it back but he instead insisted I leave the car and wait for their phone call. No consideration for people's busy schedules. He said that they're busy and will look at it as soon as they have the chance. I dropped off the car at 10am and didn't get a call back till 4pm. Hmm, how long do you think they spent looking at it? Went back to find them telling me about all these issues with the car(leak, old contaminated system, you name it). Mike lectured me about R12 and R134a and how someone tried filling the system with R134a freon when they shouldn't have. Their paperwork stated that system is not operational and they recommend changing the entire A/C system for $1633.68. I took the car to another shop. The first thing they realized was that my system was retrofitted to R134a. They filled the system with freon. pressure is good, no leaks, AC working fine. Only issue was a faulty pressure switch. I wonder if those guys at car's muffler &automotive know what they're doing. I understand it's an old car but don't rip people off with service charge and 'recommend' changing entire system just because you couldn't figure it out. They couldn't tell that it has been retrofitted? They should have refused looking at the car. Instead, they charged me $125 (AC system diagnosis) and provided me with a complete BS diagnosis. read more

I don't usually leave reviews on any business, I'm just not that type of person. But the service I received at CARS made me need to. I own a diesel truck and have spent years and thousands of dollars trying to get it to certify for star smog. This was my last ditch effort to try to keep it. My wife and I were both fed up with how much the truck has cost us. My wife called about a week ahead of time and spoke to Chad who told us to bring it on Saturday. Once we arrived I explained to him how I have been told by multiple mechanics that it will never pass smog and to get rid of it. He did some research, called me and told me what to do. I brought it back later that day after driving it over 200 miles and it passed! On the first try to top it off!! I couldn't believe it, after all those mechanics told me it would never be street legal. Yet it has been this entire time. I'm not going to lie, I cried as I drove my dream truck home knowing that I didn't need to get rid of 'her'. Thank you Chad and the team at CARS Automotive. I do NOT recommend bringing your car here because you can't trust the judgement of the employees, mechanics and managers alike. I brought my 2005 Cadillac CTS here to get my drive shaft coupler replaced. It's a very simple procedure of replacing a rubber disk and the price was fair. What they did wrong was install a part that didn't fit correctly, which has resulted in damage to my car. A good mechanic is an expert on cars and would never have installed a part that doesn't fit unless the customer insisted. The replacement coupler that I provided did not fit 100% perfect as it should but the mechanic chose to install it anyways. They did not call me to tell me and ask what they should do before installing it. I would have told them NO, don't install a part that doesn't fit right. What the manager chose to do instead was let the mechanic install the defected part, then tell me about the bad fit when I was picking up my car. At that time I was shocked, didn't know what to say and the manager was assuring me it would be OK, even though the part didn't fit. The bad part resulted in even worse problems than I had in the first place. I have to replace the coupler again ($125 part), pay for the labor again ($210), and possibly have damaged u joints due to the excessive vibrations since the defect part was installed. Cars Muffler said there is nothing they can do to help except charge me again for the same service. The manager did what all BAD managers do and put all the blame on me, his customer. read more

I am the guy that keeps older vehicles (2007 Camry, 2001 4Runner, 1999 Saturn and a 1998 Winnebago). Regular maintenance and fluid changes keep them going. If you are looking for a Service/Repair Place to keep you vehicles running and knowing their stuff - Cars Muffler will take care of you. Can you get it done cheaper; maybe. I have taken my car here several times. Actually I have taken my last 3 cars here several times. They are totally honest and don't try to take advantage of you if you're a woman like a lot of auto shops do. I've called them from other auto shops before to compare prices and they always take time to call me back and give me honest and fair prices. Other places will quote you a price and then find some other things to charge you for. My favorite mechanic there is Richard, he is really good and he sincerely cares about doing quality work. Michael and his family members are great. Took my 1993 Chevrolet pickup there to have Edelbrock headers and a cat-back system installed. I had purchased both directly from Edelbrock. Dropped it off, got a call to say it was ready and picked it up. Then I found out that I had been sold the wrong cat-back system and Michael had to bend new piping to make everything work properly. No extra charge plus a free set of stainless tail pipes. Now that I have a new RAM R/T, that's going into CARS tomorrow for a hand-made cat-back system and Flowmaster Super 44's. Two hours and I'll be done. Very satisfied customer. read more

i have been to this shop many of times with many different vehicles. the positives: the place is spotless and all of the mechanics i have spoken to are all friendly and very knowledgeable. however, The little time i was there this recent visit, made a big impact on me wanting to come back. to start, none of the employees were wearing a mask. So that just indicates to me that my safety was not important. yet the previous time i had work done by this company, my car was sanitized? how does that work? sanitize but no mask? i was greeted by the manager whom was outside. he was very nice. when i went into the office, was when i didn't feel like my business was important. the lady in the office, whom was also not wearing a mask, did not greet me, said less then 10 words, which rubbed me the wrong way to the point where i did not want to come back again. The extremely short conversation could have been a lot more friendly. its too bad because all of the other employees whom I've dealt with have been fantastic and friendly. a few minor adjustments could easily give this place 5 stars. but i don't see the changes happening any time soon. i will be taking my 8 vehicles elsewhere unfortunately. read more

Went here today due to a failed "Test Only" smog check. This station is a "State Gold Certified Shop". I've come to this shop 6 yrs ago for the same reason and with proper testing my 28 yr old car passes. I took my car to other stations closer to my house, but it will fail due to "Improper Procedures" so i will now bring all 3 cars here. Once again, with the proper procedure, my sentimental old car passes for another 2 yrs. "JIM" is always very helpful, has a great smile and energetic personality. I highly recommend this place and will make the drive here from now on... P/S: Their prices were cheaper than Shop X!! read more

I needed what I thought was a catalytic converter for my nephews car and when I called around this place was recommended. I called to make an appointment was told to bring the car in now. Definitely did not expect that. Ended up not needing the converter just needed some basic TLC. Love that they did not try to sell me something I did not need. A friend had to have a catalytic converter replaced. We bought the part and they installed it for $50. It was done on time and they were very friendly. Good service all the way around especially since the same job was going to cost over $350 somewhere else. By getting the part ourselves and going here we saved $150! read more

I am always wary of auto repair shops, so when it was suggested that I contact AAA, this is the business I was referred to. Because they are AAA approved, they take great pride in customer satisfaction. We have a 2003 Ford Explorer, which has needed minor repairs and they've been great about fixing the problem at a reasonable cost with quick turnaround. They are conveniently located in our neighborhood and offer drop off/pick up service. I may give them a try when it comes to the smog check. read more

The thorough complimentary inspection was so helpful. Cruz showed me photos and helped me prioritize what I need to do first to keep the car running safely for as long as possible. The entire staff was great - I had my 11 month old in tow and everyone helped entertain him while we went over the inspection and then one of the guys folded up my stroller and put it in my trunk -- these guys went above and beyond. I'm impressed with the service and they have been around for years. I had a no fuss smog check on my 1995 car. It didn't need service and I was out in 30 minutes. I had to wait about 15 minutes to have my car checked. Great service! There was a $10 coupon online and I paid a little less than $43, I think, where other places were going for more, one even charging $76 for the same work. I am sold! I'll be back next year!!! Wow all I can say is this place is amazing. I drive a 1997 Subaru Outback and love it. I got concerned when I started to hear a rattle coming from under the engine. I had been told that it most likely the heat shield and that this was common in my car but would have to take it to an exhaust shop to get it fixed. I was driving down PCH and happend to see this place and deiced to stop in to see if they could fix the problem. I'm so happy that I did and will be back for sure after a quick inspection and me saying ok to the $25 price quote my car was back on the road rattle free and still going strong! Like one of the previous reviews, I had to get a lamp inspection for a salvaged car. I arrived early on Tuesday morning without an appointment and they took care of me right away. Less than an hour wait and very reasonable cost for the service. Getting the proper certifications for my car has been quite an ordeal. It had actually had been to a shop in San Diego three times previously (my son uses the car and he goes to school there) and failed to pass. Each time the cost for checking the lamps was twice what I paid at Cars Muffler & Automotive Inc. The staff were very friendly and professional. took my Mitsubishi Lancer in for a smog check/it was quick and easy/took about 30mins/staff was knowledgeable and friendly/prices might be a dollar or 2 more than other places but worth it when it comes to people who are up front and honest. They let you know what to expect and answered any of my questions or concerns. Especially great for anyone who drives a Mitsubishi since there are a few staff members who drive lancers and outlanders. So they know the deal, great bonus for us Mitsubishi heads! read more
