I really want to like Lucy Nails - I live just around the corner, and a lot of the staff is very nice. But my gel nails have chipped (badly) within a week or two every single time. I've now been 6-8 times, and am continually disappointed with the results. (One of the reasons is that they do not paint the tips/edge of your nails, unlike every other gel manicure I've had.) I should say: They do offer a guarantee on gel nails for two weeks, and will redo your nails if they're messed up in that time. That's a great policy. However, going back for a redo is not a great option for two reasons: 1. They are very very slow (a gel manicure takes over an hour), and 2. They are very very busy! Unless you go during off hours (i.e. the middle of a weekday), expect at least three people to be waiting ahead of you. Lastly, Itpricey, and although the price on par with other places around here, it's just not worth the money for the poor quality. read more

I used to like this place and go often. For most the pandemic I started doing my own nails but when things eased up I decided to venture back in here. The salon was empty except for one customer and she asked me to sit in the chair next to her. I said no, there's plenty of space at other stations. They put up plastic barriers to protect the staff but don't care about the customers safety. I got a regular polish manicure and 5 minutes after she was finished she said to me "you're done" and I said ok. I've already paid, the place is empty so it's not like she needs my chair, why do I need an announcement that I'm done? You know with regular polish while your nails may be dry to touch, the minute I dig into my purse to find my keys I would smudge the polish. So I thought I would sit for 15 minutes since business is slow and they don't need my chair. It's not closing time. A few minutes later she walked up to me and said to me rudely "are you waiting for someone" and I just responded no. She kept doing these rude hints that I was done (and could go) and I stayed put. I've literally never had this happen in a salon. People are free to sit and wait until they are ready. I won't be returning. I've been going here because of proximity. Their covid safety measures are not great and I've seen some workers walk around without their masks on. The pedicure bath also does not feel very clean. However, their gel manicure is objectively really good. It always lasts at least 3 weeks and when I've had a chip, they've fixed it with no issues. I wish the salon was warmer and a little more welcoming, but the staff is really friendly. Good when you're in a bind. They also have a credit card fee, I think it's an extra $5. read more

She is quiet but she is the only one that can put hands on my feet and nails. I called for an appointment, and I'm glad that I did because while there were a lot of walk ins, it got pretty busy towards 4:30 PM on a Friday, so I think there might have been a wait. I get my nails done here because it's right downstairs of my apartment, very convenient location. They have great service and the staff is very nice and patient. The best part is that they are always ready to serve wine and water--at free charge. It is very rare to see that. They also have a 2 week warranty on gel nails. If your nails chip, you can go back and they will fix it as long as you have your receipt. The only complaint t hat I have is that only one person does my nails the way I like it. I have tried different people but I can only go to Amy. It is nice that they have the warranty BUT, I don't have the time to go back just to fix one nail. Went here on my lunch break for a gel manicure. My nails turned out fine, and the lady who did them was very nice, but the polish ends far before it reaches my cuticle on most of the nails. (see photos) While I was there, one of the manicurists was cracking open and eating sunflower seeds (or something of the sort) the entire time from one of the pedicure chairs, which was pretty disgusting and distracting. In response to the owner who is "blaming the victim" regarding the toenail fungus I got from this place: I am well informed of how onychomycosis is contracted as I am a licensed physician. Unequivocally I contracted this fungus from this nail salon, beyond a reasonable doubt if you would like the evidence. The very nails that were painful immediately after the pedicure lifted from the nail bed and became thick and yellow within 1-2 weeks after the pedicure. I work 80-100 hours per week and do not engage in locker-room or public gym showers or other such other activities that the owner claimed I must have participated in. I waited 10 months to write the review because I spend most of my time treating sick patients with cancer which obviously takes priority. Happy to bring my receipts from your salon as well as my husband who is a practicing lawyer and who is my witness. How to you suggest that I provide evidence that I haven't been to any other nail salon for a pedicure ? I cannot bring my entire bank statement from the past year so what is your suggestion? I came to this place after spending the afternoon visiting my friend nearby Chinatown. I picked this location because my friend recommended it. The business appears to be relatively new and appears to offer massages besides nail services. I got a gel manicure by Jade and it was wonderful. Jade was meticulously about cutting my cuticles and nails. Jade was knowledgeable about nail colors and products. She recommended the perfect red color tone since I told her that I was going out to party that night. She even put sunscreen on my hands before the UV rays. Jade was considerate and professional throughout the whole appointment. The total cost was only $30 with the special offering. Overall, the business is very clean and friendly. The atmosphere is bright and fun. The ladies are extremely hygienic and nice. The owner offered me water when I came into the store. She put me in the chair with massage built in and soaked my disgusting feet without ever mentioning them. She removed the dead skin did my toenails and provided a parrafin treatment followed by an amazing foot massage (my disgusting feet...) She offered to do a manicure as well (why not?) and finished with parrafin treatment to my hands. Lucy stopped over to make sure I was well cared for (always appreciated when the boss lady comes by!) I assured her I was and then she offered to make me a haircut appointment the next day. Customer service 5 stars! Even though I was a walk in without an appointment she made it clear she would have arranged for a full body massage in addition but sadly I had other plans for the afternoon. Another day/time. TERRIBLE! Please save your money and do not go here. I got a fill in less than a week ago and 4 of the nails have already broke off. The nails are very weak and break very easily. I paid $45 plus tip just to have to remove my nails less than a week later plus the gel started chipping a day after getting them. They do have a 2 week policy for gel but still, I should not have to go out of my way to fix my nails. This is the problem with DMV nail places, they love to charge you an arm and leg but do a cheap job. I will not be returning, please save your time and money and find another nail place. read more

Worst manicure I have ever had. My technician was an older male and he cut my nails way too short, then proceeded to file them really quickly and without any shape whatsoever. I had to ask him repeatedly to redo it in a square shape to the point where my nails are now gone. Then he does my cuticles and I had to ask again yet again to do it right. Finally he's painting my nails and doesn't paint the whole nail. My nails are completely uneven. Very sad cause his is a convenient location but I will not be back. read more

An uneven file job--to the point where I grabbed the emery board after the tech was "done" and got my nails much more square than she managed to 2. Two small kids (who clearly belonged to one of the techs) running around yelling. Perhaps the most frustrating is that none of the nail techs without customers, 5 / 7 at the time, seemed to care that these children were misbehaving--god forbid one must look up from his/her phone and do some parenting! Yes I'm writing this a week later and my gel polish has not chipped once, but for a $35 gel manicure, I'd expect a little more professionalism. This was my first time here. I found the place clean and staff professional. I was taken up stairs for a pedicure. I notice that Hanna who did my pedicure took much interest in her work. She opened a new package of nail clips, file, etc., which I wondered if this is done for all customers. Either way I like the sterilization process. I received gel pedicure and a foot massage. All in all, I am satisfied. The cost $60.00. The only concern, I was asked to walk up a flight of stairs without someone asking me if I was able. Luckily my knees were on their best behavior. Unclear how long that will last. - 2-levels in this salon/spa...larger than expected. They have not only a nail salon and waxing, but advertise massage. You can even buy hand/foot massage at $1/min, which is nice if you need some quick relaxation. - Some prices feel a bit steep ($85/hr massage...I'd rather go somewhere that doesn't look like a nail salon; $10-$15 for gel nail removal is pricey since many places do this for $5-$10 or include it with the gel manicure) - Only 4 pedicure chairs!!! There was already a line of people waiting for a pedicure and it is the middle of the winter (when people care less about their toes) and no one knows about this place yet. I'm hoping I can get a reservation for a chair moving forward. - Loyalty program: For every $100 you spend, you get $5 off - They offered water (on my way out). I saw some champagne in the fridge. I'd love to get offered a drink on the way in next time! But it wasn't a huge deal for me. - Credit cards accepted (including tip) making payment easy!!! After walking by there many times, I finally decided to give it a try today for what I thought would be a quick, simple pedicure. The first thing when I check in was that the lady grabbed my hands and said that I needed a gel manicure. I said "no, thanks" and said that I just wanted the simple $30 pedicure, which prompted her to suggest the $45 "deluxe" one. I insisted on the simple pedicure and she went to work. The "simple" one was really very basic, did not include any massage or other niceties. She gave me water, but no wine.... I even had to pay $5.00 extra to have her use a rasp to take off tough skin. Wow, have never seen anything like that. Also, the lady was obviously in a rush. She messed up in one spot, and had to touch up, which made the ordeal take even longer. After an hour, I was finally done and was sent on my way with these ridiculous pink 'flip flops' still on my feet. I paid my $35.00 with a credit card and gave her a modest tip in cash after she insisted that tips should be paid in cash.... So that was $38.00 for basically a foot wash and someone painting my toe nails, ugh. This was my first and last visit there. Also, the place is messy with "stuff" sitting around everywhere, and I didn't appreciate the loud hip hop music (but that's obviously a matter of personal taste). read more

Usually i go for hair cut, i dont like upstairs saloon its not comfortable and there is no day light. Lot of Vietnamies ladies working there. Last time she did well cut i really like it. If you pay cash 20$ per cut plus tip which means 25. But if you will pay credit card they charge you extra $1-2 more. Sometimes after the hair cut i get reflexology massage. Last time was unbelievable, she did 30 mins strong pressure massage, during massage my foots was little painy which is so normal bec i wanted it. After the massage i was almost flying. I really got relax. It was $37 for 30 min foot massage. On the other hand they do foot scrup and washing hot water and making dry with mint infused hot towel. HORRIBLE! Inexperienced, unlicensed techs. Literally the worst nail salon I've ever been to, and I've been getting biweekly manicures for almost 15 years. I came in here to get a French manicure for a ball I am going to. I had pink gel on, which the tech did not completely remove before starting to apply the base coat. He literally filed my nails so that they are now paper thin, made my cuticles bleed, and filed my pinky nail down to the skin! He left the edges of my nail jagged and left base and top coat all over the skin on my fingers, not to mention the white color on the tips is something a child could have done a better job of. All while my own disaster is going on, the tech giving the woman next to me messes up her polish, gets up to help another customer, another tech comes over and fixes it and offers the customer a hand massage for her trouble. They then charge the woman an extra $10 for the massage! Needless to say the customer was extremely upset with the service, slap shod manicure, and massage scam. I so badly want to have had a good experience here because I literally live right next to this place, but there's no way I can bring myself to ever go back. All of the women my friends and I have been to there are excellent! I just had one bad manicure from one of the men. The staff was attentive as soon as I walked in. Vivien did my pedicure and she did a great job. I got the full spa pedicure with paraffin and massage. It was wonderful. Only complaint was that she used a bit too much pressure on my feet while massaging but she told me to let her know if it was too hard, and she adjusted accordingly. It felt wonderful, she was friendly, and the polish is smooth and gorgeous. Another technician did my eye brow arch and is looks wonderful, much better than the threading place in Union Station where I had been going. Happy Nails and Day Spa was the worst manicure I've ever had. Got my nails done less than two days ago and they look awful. The entire left pointer finger nail polish chipped off. Both thumbs have chipped substantially. Right after the nails dried I noticed that you can clearly visualize the second coat and looked as though the bottom coat was a different color. And the man who painted my nails chipped the polish on my middle finger. He tried to fix it but ended up botching the nail even more. The price for a mani/pedi was $48. Bought my girlfriend 3 Swedish massages for Christmas. After being caught in a lie about the spa's availability to schedule time for one of these massages, I was more than a little nervous about this place. Cue girlfriend walking into the spa 10 min before her agreed upon appointment time and being told she would have to wait an hour and a half. I just recently moved to DC and I've been skeptical about getting my nails done even though I have been going pretty consistenly every 2-4 weeks for the last 15 years. Some of my girlfriends have told me horror stories about the DC nails salons (the filthy pedi tubs, stained and non-working massage chairs, the smell, etc.,) and most just drive out to Virgina for the service. But I knew it was time to go when I was just walking across my living room and I broke a toe nail. I mean seriously, who does that?! I came in on a Monday around 1230pm. When I walked in, I noticed it was a smaller place, kept neat and fairly organized. The lady in the front, Vivien, was super friendly and her English was very good. I came to get a mani/pedi with the extended foot massage for $30 (posted on the curb with a street sign). She was super friendly, got the water running and handed me the menu of tons of pedicure choices. I decided to go with the $75 Sole Signature with the parrafin wax since it had been about 4 months since my last pedicure (and my talons were as long as the Great Wall of China and my soles were probably just as hard). Just so you know, what we are talking about here is an hour and a half of pedicure service. To be honest, conversation just flowed so easily with Vivien that I didn't even realize my time was up. She's super personable, nice, there wasn't ever an awkward moment. If you've been getting your nails done, you know how that is when someone is just staring you down while rubbing your feet with no words, it's wierd. Or having to say for the 100th time "huh?" because their accent is so strong and you can't for the life of you understand what's going on. None of those things happened on my visit! YAY! She helped me with my stuff to the mani table. I explained to her that I wanted an American French Gel polish but didn't want the white tips to be so white and I wanted it to look natural. So she pulled out some fake nails and started to demo some of the color schemes for me... FANTASTIC! Oh and by this time I think I've started a conversation with just about everyone, included a gentleman named Lou, who was super funny and charming and introduced me to their loyalty program. He also kept my wine glass full the whole time and joked around me too. That's always a plus! So at this point, I talked to Vivien like she's my long lost sister. And she mentions they are a full service salon. Her and Jade talked me into trying the humn hair eyelash extension. Jade was with a customer already so she said if I could come back at 5, that would be good! So I walked home, came back at 5 and she took me to the third floor. Don't let this place fool you, it's huge! 4 levels! So I go into this nice dim room with pictures on the wall, lay down and she was super patient with me and my insisted blinking. The eyelash extension wasn't what I thought it'd be but it does look thicker. I will say to people to really do your research for the extensions! All in all, this place was fantastic, I enjoyed the company more than I can gauge the service and it's two blocks from my house. Prices were reasonable and I spent about $300 (tips and services all included) for the entire day. read more

The only reason I'm even giving 1 star is because the paint on my toenails came out nice but I will NEVER return back to this place & I strongly discourage others from going here. I went in for a pedicure& full acrylic set. While doing the pedi she asked if I wanted the paraffin wax for $15 extra to remove dead skin so I said sure since my baby shower was the following day and i wanted my feet to look smooth in my sandals. She didn't let it cool off enough because it burned the tip & bottom of my big toes. Then we moved onto my fingernails & this is where it went downhill... I asked for acrylic but she pulls out this powder & says this dries on as the same exact pink as my toes (which were a very light pink color). I've never did a dip before so I said okay. It'll save me messing up my polish, cool. She didn't spread the clear coat evenly on my nail so the dip wasn't sticking evenly across the nail & even when she shaped my nail, it wasn't even & looked terrible so I had her fix it. At this point I've been in this shop for 2 hours & as I watch the nails dry, I'm noticing this is a pepto bismol pink which is NOT the same light pink on my toes. She insisted it was the same color even after I leaned my pregnant behind all the way over to put my fingers next to my toes to show the difference. Then she says "don't worry, I paint for you"... well doesn't that defeat the purpose of me getting dip? So I ask for the price difference between the redials acrylic I asked for & this crappy dip she gave me & she said the dip is $20 more -_- I was NOT a happy camper. Then she sends me to someone else to paint my nails and I had to tell her to make sure & cover up all up the pepto pink which looked terrible because it looked like I had nail polish over existing nail polish. Then after the 2nd coat, she moved the fan to dry my nails but ended up touching my nails with the fan so now I have to wait for her to do these 3 nails all over again while my baby kicks my in my ribs because I've been sitting for almost 3 hours at this point & it's 8:15p but they close at 8p so the owner says she will give me a discount since they're rushing me to leave ALTHOUGH there were still 2 girls getting their gel manicures done & weren't halfway done yet. So I waited until I felt my nails were fully dried before I paid & left. Now she tells me my grand total is $110... she charged me for these dip nails that were a waste of time because i read more
