This place has lots on the menu for sure but I think that could be why the quality of food is sort of average. Don't get me wrong, my food was pretty good but nothing spectacular. OHmygoodness, why is this place still open....It was so disappointing in having our last reunion coordinator order from here...A few of us were shocked to have such ill-tasting and oily food. We did not even want to try to eat a complete portion or anything and the few that did eat their feed; quickly regretted their decisions. We were looking forward to an actual nice luncheon and of course, our coordinator now has to get overall approval to not make this dreaded mistake again...So disappointing that so many small business places have always surprised us in their variety and quality and this one "gets into the mix" and either makes us genuinely sick or disgust...sometimes the hype is not much than just hype...and our sour stomachs (for the few that did eat) to prove otherwise. Man was soooo hungry today . I wanted a bacon cheeseburger but if you want your burger specialty made this is not the place to come . Got both mine and my grandsons order wrong . It took a while for the food to come out so me reordering my food was a no , because I was Hella hungry. The waitress did come out and say she was sorry about the order, but they at least they got the order. What the hell did that mean . Yes you got the order but you got them both wrong . What is hard about No Vegetable! So yes you got someone's order but it was not what I order. My daughter's Taco salad look so good but They could've put a little more fajita meat . After waiting for 20 minutes, I had to ask the host who our server was because we hadn't been waited on but guests who arrived after us were served first. From what I'm told the folks that ran City Cafe now run Lucy's. The menu has similar items such as the Wildcat sandwich. Whatever the case may be this place is the real deal. We stopped by a few weeks ago for Sunday breakfast. I had chicken fried steak and eggs. Very good. The meat was tender and tasty it wasn't all crust like some places serve you. My wife wanted Ala cart items. Rather than charging for the individual items, our waitress made a combo meal and saved us a bit. We split a half order of biscuits and gravy and still couldn't finish it. Good quality food, great service and great prices means this is our new go to breakfast place. They serve lunch as well. A few weeks later I told my entire family there. I had what was arguably the best hamburger in Bastrop county. (Sorry Roadhouse). My wife and daughter had chicken fried chicken. And my other daughter had the aforementioned Wildcat sandwich (chicken fried steak). The only complaint I had was the fries. There was nothing wrong them, but I'm VERY picky about fries. No biggie. The hamburger was the star. It was homemade. You could tell this was no pre-made frozen patty. It was fresh and hot (another pet peeve of mine is luke warm food), juicy and well seasoned. We took two pieces of cake home fit for later. Italian cream and German chocolate. The cakes were the crown jewel of City Cafe and these are no different. They must be made by the same baker. I know they were busy, but slow service( others came in behind but got their food before same order as ours) Our food finally got to us, cold onion rings and cool French fries. They replaced the onion rings and French fries but we were almost finished eating.Almost had to get up and wave to get more coffee. Club sandwich and bacon cheeseburger wee good. Bacon a little bit to salty. Mana get/ owner spent time talking to customers with a line of customers waiting to pay. This took time from their jobs. Lucy's is a rare example of a restaurant that was mediocre when first opened but got better and better over time. Most of the time they just get worse and fail. As of this writing daily lunch specials are $5.99 and appear to be the same as the regular menu offerings. You won't go away hungry! The pies and cakes are about the best you are going to find. Period. For a good many years the owner baked desserts for City Cafe. They were highly acclaimed. I personally recommend the fried fish (Friday special) and the Chicken Fried Steak. Wednesday special. Order an extra bowl of gravy. The menu is average American Cafe, however the Mexican Food offerings are very good. Today we ordered lunch ($82) in at the Taylor location and we are very disappointed. The baked potato was from yesterday, the rolls were stale, 2 fried meat orders didn't come with the gravy we requested. We try hard to give local business OUR business. I go the the Elgin Lucy's after church on Sunday and it's always been amazing. The manager was very apologetic and offered to have replacements available to be picked up, but we aren't close to the restaurant. read more

More of the norm in this area - uninspired and nothing to be that excited about. Nothing was particularly bad but nothing was particularly good. We had the fried mushrooms and they were good. Grilled cheese sandwich had the equivalent of one slice of cheese in it. Fries were along the lines of Ore-Ida crinkle cut. Really nothing special. read more

Not recommended for anyone who isn't a regular. Meaning someone who eats there everyday. I have eaten there several times and every time I go, several others get their coffee and orders taken before my table. I have watched the clock and have actually sat there for 2 hours before I ate. From the outside I didn't know what to expect. Small town and restaurant choices are slim. Walked it and the atmosphere was good, small, nice friendly staff and cute Christmas decor :) Our waiter was awesome, super tentative and just in an overall good mood. Menu threw me off bc it had Mexican food and homestyle choices. We ordered queso for an appetizer, HOLY SHIT that's some badass queso! Chips were delicious too!! I ordered chopped steak and the hubs ordered chicken fried steak. We were both extremely satisfied! As we left to pay at the front, the pies were calling my name!!! For a small town restaurant this place us terrible. Food is slow out of the kitchen. We have been a couple of times and average time is an hour to 90 minutes. Last time there we ordered the Philly cheesesteak and it was a piece of roast beef heated up. We were told the owner was in the kitchen but refused to address any issues (there were several other customers had). Suggest try other places in Elgin, this place is not worth your time or money. I have never dined inn because of COVID but every time I order from Lucy's to go I order before I get hungry do not expect a fast to go system the 5 times I have order it always takes 45 plus min for food to be ready to go. This is very inconvenient, and no the restaurant is not full when I go pick food up or I would understand. I hope they better their to go system or they will loose me and I know several others that do not order because they take too long . I was looking forward to a delicious lunch special of meatloaf and fries. I called ahead and placed a to go order. Waited 15 minutes and walked on over to Lucy's. Waited inside an additional 40 minutes to have no meatloaf come my way sadly. I spent my entire lunch break watching other people eat and now, the Hanger is real.
