Pizza is probably my favorite food to get when I'm enjoying a cheat meal, but as a southern Californian, I find it tough to find really good pizza spots. That said, Luigi's Pizza located on Kuhio Ave in Honolulu is easily one of the best pizza parlors that I've ever had the pleasure of checking out. I don't eat pork, so I opted for the Truffle Mushroom White with Arugula, and it absolutely hit the spot. The pizza itself wasn't excessively greasy, the crust was flaky as opposed to the borderline cardboard-like texture you'd expect from a major chain, and the cheese was, for lack of better word, gooey. The mushrooms were spread out on each slice instead of being cluttered all in one area, the white truffle absolutely melted with each bite, and the arugula gave the pizza a little extra kick without having an overpowering taste. The service was outstanding as well. Since my brother and I were trying it out for the first time, the staff were super helpful in explaining what some of the customer favorite pizzas were and why. They were also especially helpful with their recommendations for toppings to add with our respective pizzas, and that simple gesture compelled me to leave a small tip. Our orders took roughly twenty minutes each, so we weren't in there particularly long despite it being fairly busy around 8:30 PM on a Thursday night and two other customers ordering ahead of us. We had our order to go, so I wouldn't feel too comfortable offering my opinion on the atmosphere too much. That said, the restaurant itself is a small yet comfortable space that also offers outdoor eating for folks who prefer that kind of vibe. Had we stayed at the restaurant, we likely would have eaten our food outside since that portion of the establishment seems to offer a little more leg room than the inside. Lastly, I only gave Luigi's Pizza a 4/5 stars due to the fact that there are no sides such as breadsticks or wings. Although the pizza itself is some of the best I've ever had, I would have definitely enjoyed some breadsticks and marinara sauce to go with it. That said, the excellent and fast customer service and delicious, non-greasy pizza are more than enough to check out at least once. read more

The pizza may not be wood fired but it's got the same kinda vibe. The naturally leavened sourdough crust is key. The dough goes through a fermentation process for around 48 hours to deliver its notable flavor. You can expect the results to be consistent if not a bit greasy depending on the toppings, which are not all the expected cast. They offer a verity of topics that might make you think, it never occurred to me to put that on this kind of pizza." Which I think is great way to get customers to expand their pallets (and I say that being certifiably the finickiest person I know). For example they recommend calabrian chilies, whipped ricotta, and hot honey for pairing with their pepperoni pizza. Very happy we found this place! The staff was friendly and helpful and our food came quite quickly. There is a partially open kitchen concept so you're able to watch the chefs work if you like. This is Neapolitan style pizza (so yes there is less cheese than American style pizzas). The crust was a bit overdone on some of our pizzas and true to Island fashion it's a bit expensive for what you're getting. The menu had limited options which is nice as this usually means they specialize in quality. We ordered the Pepperoni and Fennel Sausage pizza and took it to go. The pizza was pretty good as I favor fennel sausage however I didn't find a lot of that in the pizza, I wish there were more. The crust is nice on the outer edge however I wasn't able to taste the sourdough. This is my first time having sourdough pizza crust and I was hoping there would be more of that flavor and texture.
